This is what happens when your box is too big? Did i miss something? I did skip through the video but "what happened"? I've had a few Frankenstein boxes back in the day. Change it from one configuration to another. Last I was running 2 15s in a box built for 4. Because I had the box tuned too high, I t sounded alot better with just the 2. I ended up shrinking the port and got all 4 playing again. Anyway I don't see any major issues with this guys box. Just don't overpower it. You got to o do what you gotta do to keep that bass playing.
I had 4 15” JL Audio’s isobaric in a ported enclosure back in the 90’s. It let me run them in about 6 cubic ft. In a Pontiac Grand Am. Did about 145. Have pictures but I don’t know how to put them in the comments.
How much bigger can you make a subwoofer box? Like if they recommend a ported box to be 2 cu ft, how much bigger can I make that before the box is too big for the sub?
I have heard box builders say that they will go 20% or so bigger than the recommended volume... especially if you're underpowering it to get a little more from it.... but if you have enough power you don't want more than the recommended volume because it stays tighter and cleaner that way. I just got a 3.5 cu ft. box for my 15-in Skar VXF from Gately Audio and when I was talking to Bobby I initially wanted the 4cu ft 1x 15"... but after looking at all the specs of the subwoofer he pointed me towards the 3.5cu ft box instead saying that the port dimensions matched up. The box sounds amazing. So clean.
20-30% larger in volume is what I have seen. Let's say you have the 2 cubes. then you divide 2 by 20% and it will give you that percentage and then you add it to 2 cubes. If you have multiple subs you have to account for each sub to get the total. It is not a hole lot bigger when you actually do the calculations as I have done them. Naturally a larger box with a larger port area to a specific frequency will bass harder but you cant make it insane big either. Its all scientific 😃
@@frankbarlow3154 This is why I normally stay within 1cu ft of the box spec . Most people under size a little due to not accounting for port area inside box and speaker displacement in those cases polyfill is your best friend.
I got here looking for an answer for that exact same question. But I want it applied on a sealed box. The thing is that I really want that tight feel a sealed box provides. It is very accurate in the reproduction but it suffers on the lowest frequencies and the SPL output. My intention is to get a nice, deep, accurate bass out of a sealed box. Trying to get JL Audio 12TW3's or 13TW5's on that system. I was planning to make a sealed box with the dimentions of the recomended ported box, but I really needed the knowledge before I choose a model, buy it and potentially trash it as soon as I place them in a box too big for them.
So what happens? As far as I know big box hits lower, but you will loose efficiency (less output volume). if subwoofer is quite weak then big box going to sound crappy and will be very inefficient so subwoofer going to reach its xmax (mechanical limits) quickly due to less pressure in a box. Check Hoffmans law

I'm glad it's working for you and you like it . I'm building my Sgl system myself right now. Thanks for the good vibes bro. If you could run 4 ohms with plenty of power it would sound even better. The lower the ohms the more power but less control the amp has on the subs movement. The higher ohm pushes less power but the sub hits each frequency more accurate and the cone movement is more precise.
@@L-Noble.YT_Hi.Res-Soundminds yeah it was thinking how most home theater speakers run at 8 ohms with some of the higher performance speakers dipping to 6 or even 4....but no lower than that and most run at 8...
