If you struggle with values, temporarely convert your images into gray scales, then you see how balanced they are.
Also the composition rule of Big-Small-Medium is helpful.

It's funny that I was able to improve my art skills thanks to you introducing me to Schoolism 4 years ago at CTN. So glad to hear you're not getting complacent, it can happen easily when someone is as skilled as you are. Can't wait to see how much better your work will be!

No jokes detected when people say art is a neverending process. I started to look at my art differently, I give 100% of my effort in evey piece and it doesn't matter if it turns out good or garbage. Once I finish a project I move on to the next. My drawings improved so much once I stopped giving a damn about the end result. I just do what I currently am able to and carry the knowledge from previous projects.

Awesome I'm the 1,000th like. Also I love Alita. Hopefully a sequel will be made or at least a type of follow up movie titled something else. Like Mad Max Fury Road or Blade Runner 2049.

I was taught the best way to check your values is to make a desaturation layer. Just use the paint bucket tool and cover the screen in black and change the layer type to saturation, then put it at the top of all your layers. You probably already know this cuz of ur skill level, but for the ppl who dont i thought i would share that :)
You can also do this with other people's art to see how they handled their values, so u can learn from them.

I personally learning about values and I have a separate monitor as I draw to view my work in grayscale. So I don't accidentally push the values to wide or too deep for skin for etc.
Indo slot of anime style so skin values for the most part always lighter than clothes and it's way too easy to go overboard with rendering.
Keep it going I want to see how your style evolves into

Caballero!!! Are you selling prints of this, please say yes. Saw your post the other day about having to put-up with arrogant artists/people in Japan. With talent like yours, ignore them. You've reached the "sublime" level with your art. My credit card is burning a hole in my pocket. I would love to order an 11 inch by 17 inch print of this painting. As a fellow artist I know quality and talent when I see it. Keep up the great work hermano. :)

Yeah, values are important, I'm completely new to drawing, and kinda suck at it, but I learned the importance of value early on. I figured out that what people call 'fundamentals' isn't complicated, it boils down to two things.
    Perspective and Light.
Perspective is self explanatory, it's creating the illusion of the Z axis on a 2D surface.
Light depends on perspective, since without the illusion of the z axis you won't be able to tell where the light would and would not hit; and light can be broken down into 3 categories (in order of importance)
Light paths/placements (this of course includes plotting out shadows, reflections and highlights) -> Values -> Color.
Everything builds upon what comes before, without being skilled at the preceding thing, you'll be hopeless at learning what follows.
Perspective -> Light paths (in a nutshell, it's the same concept as raytracing, but done with your mind instead of an algorithm) -> Values -> Color.
Master all of these, and you can draw and paint anything with no limits. Skip over any of these, and you'll never be able to paint any good illustrations.
Things like anatomy and composition, it helps, but it's completely meaningless to know anatomy before you know perspective, and it's mostly meaningless to know composition, before you know perspective, light paths and values.
From 5 years of trying to make sense of how to draw, this is what I've learned, this is what I focus on learning, and the order in which I focus on learning it. I was completely hopeless until I figured this out, now I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (still stuck in the tunnel tho)
