*Colton* I bet you three t-shirts of my choice {XXL Gray} that we just witnessed the birth of Victor "Zaz", and eventually [next episode?}, he's going to scar himself in remembrance of his first kill. Even Zaz started as something other than a psychotic, ruthless killer. He may be there to remind us that everyone starts somewhere, even someone as ruthless as Zaz in the comics.

It's so ironic that one of the Riddler's motivations for his plan was that he was upset that he was an impoverished orphan, but because of his actions with the mass flood, he's made Victor an orphan driven into the life of crime.
That's the entire point
I wouldn’t call it ironic, they have/had the same problem but through different circumstances. Riddler’s was an organised shitting, the massive corruption, whereas Victor was just extremely unlucky.

Oz speech to Victor was an Emmy highlight. It’s crazy how good this show is I am completely engulfed into the version of Gotham even more than the Batman movie. This is the DC iteration of Andor.
I agree this show is amazing and The actors for Penguin and Sofia deserve Emmy's.

He was originally named Johnathan Crane in the script but changed it to Julian Rush and the actor has been making scarecrow and Hugo strange references so I think he’s an amalgamation of both

Sofia steals every scene she’s in! She hates her reputation and definitely hates the patriarchal structure she’s confined in as she’s clearly capable of more. But she’s also so unhinged and looks capable of losing it at any moment. The struggle to balance all that is well played!

Honestly I knew Cristin Miloti was a good actress but knew her mostly for comedy roles with some serious moments (HIMYM, Palm Springs, & Black Mirror) she’s doing wonderful as Sofia Falcone in a more drama focused role
@TyNels01 Small dramatic roles, too. In Wolf of Wall Street, she was Leo's first wife before Margot Robbie .
I think she actually isn't the Hangman. In 'The Batman', we see that Carmine strangles girls to death. He strangles Selina's friend, then tries to strangle Selina as well before Batman stops him. I believe he pinned his own murders on Sofia and that he used to strangle her as a child. That's why she wakes up holding her neck-memories of Carmine strangling her. That's why Mark Strong was cast as young Carmine; we'll see a flashback of Carmine abusing his children.
Dark AF and definitely 100%. As she said, they drugged her at Arkham, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he drugged her to make her think she did it too
yep, she was definitely framed by her own father, the trailer for episode 4 alludes to it, maybe she did "dance on his grave"

She may not be the Hangman, but her time in Arkham has probably made her something worse, and when she finally lets lose it's going to be great!
The Squid might also be a reference to the Batman: TAS episode "The Man Who Killed Batman," where a low level mobster named Sid accidentally knocks Batman off of a roof and everyone thinks he killed Batman, so they give him the nickname "the Squid."
Also, the idea of the rich living above to poor was made literal in Batman Beyond, where Neo Gotham has different layers. There's a Jetsons like upper level of skyscrapers and flying cars where all the rich people live, the middle class live in high rises with elevated highways, and the poor live on the ground level where the sky is blocked out by all the tall buildings.

Oz wore the white and the club lighting and decor were reminiscent of Scarface. Hell, he even has a scar on his face
In the scene with Victor and Graciela, the song switch by 6lack is playing in the background as Graciela talks about how Victor has gone “bougie” and changed up. The chorus of the song “switch” says “tell me how it feels to be somebody else”, symbolizing how Victor is becoming a different person.

You missed some very significant things here, like Oz telling Vic not to believe everything he reads in the papers, implying that Sofia is not the hangman, with her outright proclaiming, "I'm not the hangman."

You’re wrong. Oz is trying to groom Vic into a life of success, he’s doing it the only way he knows how in a world that he knows punishes those who try to do good. Oz is doing what he thinks is best for Vic, it’s not something to pity Vic for or demonize Oz for… like he said, in their world there is no such thing as good and bad, there’s just this life.

I really thought this show was going to be trash and it’s the complete opposite.
It’s funny, filled with suspense, has a good story line, has great characters, and it just has me wanting to watch more. Can’t wait for next weeks episode.

As much as I would love for the Court Of Owls and Hush to be the main, if not secondary antagonists in The Batman 2, I still don't see that happening. That flood isn't going away anytime soon in Gotham and Matt Reeves said that he wants The Batman 2 to take place during winter witch heavily implies that Mister Freeze will be the main antagonist in The Batman 2. It's possible that Thomas Elliot could at least make an appearance in The Batman 2, perhaps tweaking his origin story to make Hush the main antagonist on the Gotham PD series that Reevs apparently still wants to make. But as long as those flood waters are still there, the stage is set for Mr. Freeze to take over.
It's just winter. Doesn't mean Mr. Freeze will show up. I really don't get why people want him to show so bad. His story and arc are a one and done thing, and in this day and age the name "Mr. Freeze" just doesn't hold up.
People are gonna be so disappointed when they find out he won't be the antagonist
@@bobstacks8405 Personally, I agree. I would rather have Scarecrow than Mr. Freeze since fear in Gotham would be really high considering all the corruption that was uncovered by the Riddler and the extremely bad conditions because of his flood. I think Scarecrow would flourish in that environment because for the first two acts, he'd be unstoppable. Plus, Batman says that he wants to embody hope which gives Scarecrow a reason to tear him down. It just seems more likely that it'll be Mr. Freeze than Scarecrow at this point since he could just freeze Gotham which would up the scales from the first film.
Craziest thing happened when I was watching ep 3 alone. When Vic and Graciela were kissing I quoted Heath Ledgers joker and said “here…we…go” and then the bombs went off. I was shocked

Vic letting it go gabriela hit hard if you ever in a situation to end a good relationship.

I think he interrupted him because he knew victor wasn't being honest with himself about why he wanted to stay. I do also feel like he may not feel the rules apply to him, but he always waits for him to finish before saying anything
i agree with all you said, and i think that highlights that Oz does actually try to be a decent person sometimes, or at least appear like it. also, whenever oz isn't allowed time to think, or is in his emotions, he is impulsive and impatient. add hurt and angry to it, and probably all rules go out the window.
Carmine is definitely the Hangman, the movie already showed that he had a thing for stenagulating women (Selina's mother, the Russian girl and tried to kill Selina like that)

I LOVE what Colin Ferrell is doing with Penguin. The brief little moments where we see the maniacal supervillain side to him come out is brilliant. It’s reminding us that this guy isn’t just a sort of antihero like Tony Soprano or Walter White. He’s a BATMAN villain. One of his most notorious ones at that! So it makes sense he’d be displaying some unhinged behavior

@lilstupidahhboy5155 If that's the case, it's most likely from the toxic Batman fanbase. Almost everyone I spoke to was amped for this. Besides, why would Batman be included in a show that is not about him? We already have the films in which the spinoff is based on lol.
But the Batman wasn't very good, nowhere near the level of this series.
I've still not been able to sit through the Batman.
I love how this episode showed how destructive The Riddler's bombs were. The movie did not emphasize the carnage, but this episode did. This is how you build a universe for storytelling.

Small take, and sorry if it was touched on in other videos, but Vic tends to stutter/stammer less with Oz (except when he's pissed at him). Shows a comfort level Vic has with Oz. He didn't have that with his Dad (in the flash back) so it shows, too me, how comfortable he is with Oz
I often wonder if the writers of amazing shows like this watch these videos and think "Damn, yeah, he nailed it here' or 'Damn, how did he know that? That's exactly what I was thinking'. Awesome review, as always, Mr. TV man.

This series is fantastic each episode has a different gangster movie feel to it, first episode the sopronos second episode the godfsther and this episode like scarface, with oz explaing his betrayal to get what he wanted, selling the american dream to victor and alot more drug refrences its fantastic

Spoilers about the ending:
Oz kills Vic. Penguin assumes the mantle of sole mobster in Gotham after all of the Falcones and Maronis die except for Sofia who gets a letter from Selina in the finale. The show sets you up to think that Oz’s mother was emotionally and mentally unstable and that turned Oz into a psychopath with delusions of grandeur but it’s in fact the opposite. He was born a cold blood killer and his mother is the manipulated and gaslit one. The last shot is a cool wide angle on Gotham as the bat signal lights up.

Batman recruited Jason Todd as Robin after stopping him from stealing the wheels off the Batmobile. Penguin did the same with Victor. He’s like his own personal Robin.
Sofia judging Oz’s apartment is her seeing what he got after he “did her wrong”
She’s been in Arkham, while he was decorating his apt with tacky furniture.
She’s asking herself “it was worth selling me out for a bunch of tacky shit”
Also, her seeing the lady at the club kiss Oz. I bet she’s putting together that she’s willing to cover for Oz and give him an alibi. I’m willing to bet Sofia will use that display of public affection against Oz in the future.
Sofia is quickly becoming my new favorite villain.
We call him Gil Scott-Heron over this side of the Atlantic. His dad played for Glasgow Celtic, so pretty sure it’s a normal English pronunciation
Calvin wasn’t just one of the kids that was trying to steal oz’s wheels he’s the kid that got shot by Sophia
Also interesting that Sofia hands the cigarette off to Oz and he takes a drag. The character smokes tobacco in the comics (although in episode two we see Oz smoking a cigar, too).
I think Victor might be a version of Robin. In the opening scene when the penguin lettering comes up Vic’s eye is directly behind the triangle in the G, and it contours almost perfectly with his face. He also wore a red shirt for most of the episode.

I figured Penguin left Sophia because the Maronis exposed his betrayal while they had them kneeling, so he decided to leave Sophia, hoping they would kill her once he escaped. I feel like the Maronis and Falcones might team up against Penguin, though.
did anyone notice the picture on Vic's phone background? Seemed like a superhero to me.

Something I noticed is that Vic told Sofia in the apartment that he drives “one of Oz’s cars” and then quickly corrected it to “Oz’s car”, which makes me believe that with someone as perceptive as Sofia that she will put the pieces together that Oz’s mother is still alive
I mean he told Oz took a liking out of him when he drove one of his cars. What correlation does Oz's mom have in this?
@@alvin6879 so Oz has 2 different cars, the “plum” car and an old car (Volvo I think) . He uses the plum car regularly, and only uses the Volvo as his ride to go see his mother. For some reason, likely her safety Oz has told Sofia and others that his mother is dead, and he makes going to see her a secret occasion.
my one take away was Vic's girlfriend was leaving either way, she made her decision before telling Vic, so that relationship was doomed anyway

I LOVE Sofia. I always like characters that look like just under the seemingly calm surface there is a complete psycho ready to destroy everything around them. When Sofia finally stops putting on her "sane face" and embrace the Hangman persona (which i dont think she is) it'll be the best episode of the season. 🤣😂
