Colin Farrell has done for the Penguin, what Heath Ledger did for the Joker. He understands the character, or his version of it, and has really brought him to life in a way we hadn’t seen! Nothing less than outstanding perfection!!!
Honestly this is better than the joker because Oz Cobb is actually a believable person with depth and range of emotions. Joker is amazing but he doesn't have depth and isn't someone you'd believably see in real life
The overall cast for the movie was a killer. Paul Dano's performance as the Riddler was also insane! Even Catwoman was somewhat decent although i still think they could have had a better costume. And black Jim Gordon was a bit odd. That said i have very little to complain about otherwise and Pattinson totally did an awesome job at portraying the Batman straight from the DC animated series. My favourite scene has to be the flare in the water scene. Certified iconic Batman moment! :D I think that movie was just short of a masterpiece (because of fore-mentioned details that felt questionable) but still the very best Batman movie we ever got to date and i'm a huge DC fan so that says a lot coming from someone like me. I think this movie absolutely torched the Dark Knight trilogy which i absolutely hated.
Agreed. People talk about the make-up (which a feat in its own) but the voice & accent is what completes the "that's Colin Farrell?!" effect & he just disappears into Oz. I think it might just be a Top 3 CBM performance, just for the authenticity imo.

Colin Farrell is one of my favourite actors on and off screen. He's recent body of work has been incredibly diverse. Yet his off screen interviews / behind the scenes footage show the same easygoing, really genuine fella who just loves the opportunity to act xxx
Yet another superb interview. You really are one of the very best, Ali. So professional and a genuine fan all in one. And isn't Colin Farrell just so down to earth? I see a lot of Tony Soprano in his Penguin, along with DeNiro and Pesci.👏🏻🥰👏🏻🥰

On working with Colin Farrell on the film Daredevil, Ben Affleck said everyone deserves a friend like Colin and I couldn't agree with him more.

I did wonder if The Sopranos/Tony Soprano was a motivation for his Penguin character. There’s some Tony in there, I can’t quite put my finger on it but they are similar in there assertive/intimidating way of conversing.
It's funny because they switched the time slot of the show to the one the Sopranos used to hold because the show was doing so well only after a couple of episodes! They've knocked it outta the park with this!! 😎👌
That performance was unreal. Colin Farrell and Paul Dano knocked their performances out of the park, i'm still amazed about it. The writers twist on their characters was a bit strange at first but made everything so much more interesting, crazy and intense! Where are the Emmys? Pattinson also deserves some credits for portraying such a comic-accurate version of Batman, it was straight from the DC animations and as a hardcore DC fan i could not have asked for better. The scene where he carries the flare in the water and citizens rallying behind him as he embodies a light in the dark was absolutely jaw-dropping! Iconic Batman moment right there!!
Never had a show where I really couldn't wait for the next week since Game of Thrones. Every character in this show is so well-written and acted; it's beautiful.
I am LOVING this show so far and Colin is so so so AMAZING. The makeup is stellar, but it is his performance that ties it all together. This is some acting excellence here and I really hope he gets all the accolades he deserves.
Colin Farrell did a phenomenal job as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin in both Matt Reeves' The Batman & the excellent HBO's The Penguin. He gives authenticity in his performance along with his transformation in the makeup/prosthetics, his attention to the gestures, the walk & his accent. Give Colin all the awards please 👏👏
These prosthetics truly showcases actor’s range. Jamie Bower with Vecna and this work just is top notch. Still believe if an actor can change their voice, that can show how much they can transform. Pattinson with Mickey 17 alone made me doubt if I remembered right.
i just watched the first 4 episodes and im surprised how good it is and how good it looks. its so rare to get a positive surprise these days. great show
It’s not just the ground breaking makeup and distinct body language, it’s the emotional layers and gravitas he puts into the character of Oz. He’s just so brilliant here, such a complete to watch Colin disappear into this character!

Absolutely hooked on this show. Ive never missed a Batman movie in my entire life and I had to read the cast to even know Colin was playing the penguin..
The first episode was honestly so good. I watched it in the night and woke up thinking about it, so watched it again. Excited to watch the 2nd episode tonight
I've said it before and will continue to say it, Colin Farrell as the Penguin is the best iteration and imagining of a Batman villain to source material since Heath Ledger as the Joker. He is just as dynamic and powerful as Heath was. You could easily see his Penguin across from Christian Bale's Batman. He created a masterwork for Reeves' Batman universe and hope he will reap future awards for it. Farrell has always felt somewhat underrated to me. I enjoy his work and he's a dynamic actor with full range. Nothing he can't do. Hope Robert Pattinson's development as Bruce Wayne/Batman will rise to the occasion in The Batman 2 and not be outdone.
In a sea of less than average tv and movies the penguin has been a pleasant surprise, one of the strongest characters put to screen in decades especially when you find out its Farrell..
Havent heard the name Colin Farrell in a long time to be honest. In this TV show even without the makeup you can tell he disappeared completely in that character. When it comes to realistic batman villains, Heath ledgers joker is still THE ONE that everybody base their standards, well written and very well acted and now the Penguin by Colin Farrell. Kudos to Danny DeVito tho, he did a fantastic job portraying the penguin but a more comic book version of it. I also didnt expect to get a TV version of The penguin based from the recent batman movie,,,but it was surprise to be this so freakin good! They put a good amount of effort to write every character in the show soo goddamn well and I love it. Everyone is fantastic!
To hear him say that his limp would be more pronounced in the evening after being on his feet all day shows how invested he was in this character, the greatest depiction of a comic book character since Ledger's Joker, phenomenal performance!
I have hbo max and I was browsing a few days ago and saw this show available and added it to the que for later. Maybe if I get bored option for a Sunday. Yesterday I watched both episodes and was glued to it. Never checked my phone didn’t get bored I was just captivated by the episode. I was pleasantly surprised about how great this show was, I’m not used to shows in 2024 being good.
I am not a huge Colin Farrell fan, but holy crap....what he's doing is amazing. I think we're seeing a perfect storm of talent. An actor who has created a character with depth and dimension; a writer who knows how to walk the thin line between silly comics and dark realism; and a makeup artist who has created character that is truly believable. So far this entire series has been one of the best TV shows since "Better Call Saul". I will be sad when the series ends.
It's funny that he is trying so hard to put the onus on the "dark" side of Penguin. But ironically to me the best part are all the little things that happen outside the big scenes that put that a bit into question. The clip where he threatens the kid even comes across like "I almost forgot that I have to do that, can't get too chummy with the help". And the way he insists on letting the car pass, instead of egomanically just EXPECTING everyone to yield In the second episode.

To go from the campy villain he played in daredevil with Ben Affleck to this is really an astounding amount of growth, and I don’t necessarily mean in just acting ability, i mean in confidence that the industry has in him to give him this opportunity

To go from the campy villain he played in daredevil with Ben Affleck to this is really an astounding amount of growth, and I don’t necessarily mean in just acting ability, i mean in confidence that the industry has in him to give him this opportunity
He is INSANELY good. Say what you will about the batman franchise, but it gave us Heath Ledger's Joker and Colin Farrell's Penguin.
Yes I SO agree!!!! Heath as joker was truly amazing. And Joaquin as joker too…(well at least the 1st one, not this latest one lol)…. And Colin is incredible. I’ve always loved him. So yeah Batman has been good to us ❤
Oh the Irish actors! Aren’t they all so talented and funny! And my ❤ goes to Ali each time, treasure treasure treasure❤
Unbelievable talent - truly amazing… very well done! He should win something for that!
Listen to me carefully:
Collin Farrell to the Penguin, what Heath Ledger is to the Joker.
COMPLETELY TRANSFORMATIVE. What a performance!
Loving the show so far
