@@xhantimtiya7325not really... Rock was not passionate about Black Adam. He did not care about the character or story. He just wanted to be a superhero and be part of a comic book cinematic universe. He would have played any character if they were more powerful than everyone else and got him in the DCEU or MCU. Black Adam was just the chosen character based on what was going on in the DCEU. I honestly doubt he even read a single comic.
If he had cared at all the film would have been very different. It wouldn't have just been another poorly written/acted Rock-stroking-his-ego movie.

Tatum's Gambit works for the same reason every other live-action adaptation of a superhero has worked: the studio, director, and actor actually lean into the character and aren't ashamed to be making a superhero film. Taking superheroes seriously doesn't necessarily mean shaving away everything that seems unrealistic or campy. Even a film as gritty and grounded and no-nonsense as "The Batman" still has to feature three of its main characters running around their city dressed as their favorite animals.

Gambit's coming out party in Deadpool and Wolverine was so great because he was great. Tatum finally got to show us all what he's been trying to do for years, and the movie lets him shine. He's funny, but aside from light ribbing, he's not the butt of the joke. He's a legit badass and holds his own in the fight. I don't know how younger audience members perceived him, but knowing how long Channing Tatum has been trying to do something with this character, it was really great to see how they realized it.

What I also liked about Gambit's inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine is the understanding that, in the multiverse, even the projects that never got off the ground have a chance to become something, which is a fact that the movie itself acknowledges in its tongue and cheek fashion, in addition to paying homage to dormant 20th Century Fox franchises. Just as Ryan Reynolds is a perfect fit for Deadpool, Channing Tatum really proved he was the perfect fit for Gambit (or at the very least, far more convincing than the other guy), all because they have passion for the roles they're playing and understand the characters through and through.

    • @AVTechTips

I thought taylor actually looked a lot more physically like gambit. I think if they would have just had him live in new orleans for a few weeks he probably would have nailed the accent...but as far as dismissing him, I think that's unfair as xmen origins wolverine barely did anything with his character to begin with and I don't think it's fair to judge someone for a bad movie when he was barely in it. He gets in 1 fight if you can even call it that and then he drops wolverine off wherever he was going, then Fs off for the rest of the movie. total screen time was 4 minutes 15 seconds in a 1 hour and 47 minute runtime.
I haven't seen an official count for DP vs W but he has to get at least quadruple the amount of time taylor kitsch got with the role, in what was already a much better movie.

However, Remy's life took a dramatic turn when he fell in love with Bella Donna Boudreaux, a member of a rival guild. The two guilds had a long-standing feud, and Remy's relationship with Bella Donna was viewed as a betrayal by his own family.

As a fan of the 90s X-Men cartoon and someone who loved Gambit as a character in it, I was really happy to see how well Channing Tatum was able to portray the character even though his part was small. The accent was a big boon since he has the actual accent needed. The last movie I saw in theaters was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull when it was new...Ghostbusters Frozen Empire got me back into the theaters after a long...LONG time, and then hearing good things about Deadpool & Wolverine as well as hearing about Gambit and Blade being in it? Well I had to go see it...actually saw it at one of the 4 operating drive in movie theaters that are in my state so I got to cross THAT off my bucket list as well. It was a good movie and even if you (like me) never saw Deadpool 1 and 2, this is a good enough stand alone by itself that it didn't need much foreknowledge of the other two to enjoy.
