  • Опубліковано 27 бер 2022
  • Marathon continues to evolve the Search and Rescue lineup, this time with a white dial TSAR. The TSAR is the 41mm quartz based diver that has been around for a while, but it now got refreshed with a white dial, just like the automatic GSAR did a few months back.
    Come have a look- longislandwatc...

Marc is the living breathing argument for strong STEM education. Everything he does - with the *possible* exception of pure design - is STEM related. Running a business, understanding how quartz and mechanical watches work, knowing time and tide, machining, finishing, strength of materials, half-lifes, photo exposure, etc etc. Let’s get it back, folks!

My only quibble with Marathon is the huge price rise in last quarter of 2021.

Its a cool watch. I really wish that they upgraded the tech on the watch and did a Solar version. I HATE changing batteries on my quartz watches.

Extra large strap might be for use over the sleeve of a dive suit or heavy insulated jacket, given the Search and Rescue design objective for the watch.

I could be wrong but to my taste it's very thick for quartz watch. 14 mm. Crown sticking out so much and will dig in to the wrist.
Price... well to me it's on the high side and no bracelet included.

Generally the 36mm SAR is a nice size (even with my 7 1/4" wrist). The only problem with this watch is, that it is almost as thick as the 41mm version. That gives it weird proportions. I owned both GSARs, the 36 and the 41 and ended up selling the 36 because of the height.

Great addition to your lineup. I own a number of tritium gas powered watches including several Luminox, a Traser Supersub and even an Aragon. They are fantastic at night! I may be picking up a Marathon soon and this one is one to consider. I also love super lumed watches especially in low light conditions as the tritium is most visible in pitch dark. The only non tritium watches I have that can last through the night are my Lume-tec Combat B44, Citizen Promaster, Seiko Willard and SWC Bunker. Are these Marathons using T25 or T100 tubes?

A marathon bracelet is the only bracelet that can take serious abuse and not have pins fall out thanks to screw pins. I won’t wear a bracelet with any kind of friction pin. Clasp is rock solid when closed.

Hi Marc, I have the automatic version the arctic TSAR, I wonder how this one is different from the one I have?
(a difference other than being quartz)
I love this watch and have never had any discomfort even though it has no AR.
It's so easy to tell the time at all times with tritium tubes.

    • @islandwatch

The basic difference is quartz vs auto. The case is basically the same exterior as well (same bracelet)

If this is an FKM rubber strap, does this mean Marathon is moving away from NBR rubber? I don't own any Marathon watches, but have bought several of Marathon's NBR rubber straps separately over the years. I always thought that they were a great value for money (especially when on sale) and overlooked.

You have to pay for the "Swiss made" unfortunately. Even the Navigator, which I own, is ~$400. On the one hand, it's cool to have watches that are 100% made in Switzerland that aren't as expensive as the big guys. On the other hand, you still have to pay a chunk of change for them.
