This was so interesting! Sad to say my state of Florida wasn't on the list which is strange to me because there are so many older people retiring here, and I would think a cat would be so much easier for them to care for than a dog. So I just thought there would be more cat owners here. I guess I had better move to Vermont!! lol. I sure hope that more states get on board with banning declawing!!!🙀😸
Iowa is my home state and it made sense for it to be in the top 10 states with more households owning cats because I for one have always been a cat owner. On the other hand, all these states on the top 10 happen to have lower populations with more cat owners! An ironic twist if you ask me.
@@Awestefeld6612 why be ashamed? It's not worst, just a lower cat population vs ownership. My state, Florida didn't make either list, very surprised as most homes have around 2 to 3 cats. And the famous Hemingway cats in Key West, I surely would have thought would have garnered Florida in one of these two lists. And we have 15 cats of our own. And many retirees here have between 1 and 2 cats, some have a cat and a dog. But, even though we didn't make either list, I'm not going to allow that to bother me in any way.
That’s because most 55 + communities do not allow pets. I am taking that into consideration when I choose my hopefully forever home. I’m hopeful I can make Florida my home, but most places that are not 55+ are too expensive. If something happened to me, I won’t have anyone to take my pet.
@@NuNugirl most manufactured home {glorified mobile home} communities in Florida allow pets. I think there may be a few assisted living facilities here now that will accept a single pet, usually a cat that can be kept indoors. Many places that cater to seniors 55+ have started reconsidering the no pets, as a pet in many cases helps a senior to enjoy life by having a pet, like a cat. I think they may only consider cats because they are easier to care for, don't need to go on walks like a dog and are easier to keep indoors. So pet ownership in 55+ communities has been undergoing rethinking of the no pet policies. But you still need to check to be sure they will take pets. Manufactured Homes are relatively inexpensive if you shop around, new ones cost a bit, but you can get decent used ones for much less, and if you are able to do your own repairs, you can get fixer uppers for as little as $1,000.00. Many of the "you repair" units where I live have sold for $1,000.00, sometimes even less. Just got to shop around, also depends in area of Florida as to costs.

I live in Delaware and have been staff to 4 cats in the last 9 years. 1 was an older female that was thrown out when someone moved out of my apt complex and the next 2 were rescues from the feral colony near my apartment (both as kittens). The last one was adopted from the local SPCA. The sad part is that I only have one of them left. His name is Charlie and he's the first rescue from the feral colony. He'll be 9 soon and he's healthy and thriving. But I've lost 3 females while I have been his staff. The first couldn't transition to my house and Charlie's sister that was 1 1/2 years younger than him died November 2020. I'm in NY state. While I know a lot of cat owners I wasn't surprised to find us in the bottom 10. I especially feel this at work. Most of my coworkers identify as dog people. I personally identify as an animal person and cat owner. I'm not a dog owner. Western New York winters have convinced me I don't want to be one of those.
I think it might have to do w/climate; I noticed most of the states have snowy winters & it must be v. difficult to walk a dog in extreme cold or a blizzard. I live in California & have always loved & owned 🐈s but yes there there alot more dog owners in my building. Surprised that New York, especially NYC doesn't have more cats especially since they are perfect for apt living.👍
I'm an original Rhode Islander. I must be unusual, because I have had a total of about thirty cats in my lifetime. Some of my felines were barn cats, and I wonder whether the compilers of these percentages included working outdoor cats in their numbers.
I live in Washington and didn’t make the list. I feel my state is pretty heavy on both sides..cats and dogs. Most ppl I talk to have both in the household. I have 5 cats and a chihuahua! 😂 great topic!
My sister and her husband has 2 cats and one dog. They lived in Orlando Florida. I don’t have a cat anymore. I still loved cats. My next door neighbors have a cat that I heard it meowing inside the apartment of mine. Even another neighbor has a cute red tabby cat that was outside a couple times. I saw the cat ran somewhere the 1st time. When I saw it the 2nd time it went into an apartment. I only have 2 neighbors that have a dog in the apartment. One neighbor used to have 2 dogs but, one of them passed away.
Re Iowa corn: My tuxedo boy would eat cooked corn off the cob. It wasn't a frequent thing, but he would steal a cooled down corn cob and as dainty as possible, he would nibble the corn off the cob.
I always knew my cat dreamed. It's because sometimes, while sleeping, he would make weird noises, which you can compare to groans. I always thought he was having a nightmare when that happens, so I wake him up. Whenever I do, he seems relieved. But he's a cat, and I won't know for sure. Is that what really happens? And should I wake him up when he does?
Ok Maine does not surprise me at #2 although I expected it to be #1. When I rescued my own white kitten from his semi feral momma cat it was because he was so beautiful. But then he grew and grew and kept growing so now he is a 20 lb ALH forest cat !!!
Living in Montana I can say there are a lot of cats where I'm at. Most are farm cats, so they don't really get taken to the vet. They just get treated like friendly working strays around the farms
Lived in CA for a while. CA is full of abandoned cats. They are everywhere. Not surprising they have a 5th the entire us homeless population why would it be any different for cats. I tried to rescue one and no shelters whould take her. I flew her home to AK.
I'm in California. I'm surprised we're not one of the ones on the most cats list. Especially since the 2 breeds Bengal and Toyger were created in California. 🤷🏻♀️
@@aliceputt3133Sorry, that has to be hard! I've had cats for 42 yrs. I'm one of those people that has to have a cat as an emotional support animal. I'm on the Autism Spectrum and have problems with depression. I'm not sure about other areas of California, but pretty much all of San Diego County lets you have up to 1 or 2 cats or dogs. They just want to charge a high pet deposit and charge pet rent every month. They don't charge you the rent if you have the paperwork saying it's an emotional support animal.
I live in the state of Kentucky , it should have been at the bottom people here don't like cats I have four all rescue . There are always negative talk about cats. I take very good care of my kittystuff and love them all, but when I mentioned them the first thing people say that I hate cats, their loss
Sad to here that Annie. Its their loss ok,but it's worrying to think they could harm them if that mean.I love all animals. At present, owned by 3 Royal Purrnesses & a Feral boy.Though in my opinion a good number of locals around here & their spawn,r the real ferals. With noisy most summer eve outdoor parties, loud 'music',dumped garbage & broken plants in (stupid idea)open plan gdns, toys Inc bikes n scooters left outside for days, smoking weed, chalking on the floor, playing soccer in Close when there was a grassy area yards away complete with now vandalised posts, breaking trees, tipping rubbish bins even if set in concrete & generally being a waste of space. When I came here it was quite a culture shock as my village was so quiet. However, ear plugs are a great invention.Wonder what makes people be that way?Feral feeding time must go.
Wellllll ! Whoodathunkit ? Vermont is #1 with 44% of households having a cat(s). That would explain why they're so comfortable about going to several houses within "their" territory - they're out visiting friends who are indoor cats ! (and mooching free meals and snacks)
New York should be more like Vermont, because there's thousands of homeless cats here and all around the world, dogs too, and a lot of wildlife living in the city and people complain when they see them and want them gone! When it's humanities fault that these poor animals have no homes in the first place! That's how fucked up we humans are.
Reg.sugar & cats ,though ! I know the study says so ,but I have to disagree as my both cats got ADDICTED TO Meow cats wet food & one of the top ingredients of them was SUGAR !!! Also ,I realize the weight gain of them when fed them !! I switched to home made meals later for almost a decade til they died .💜🥁🐉🎤💞
No need to hint and nudge this Montanan to get a cat--I have two of them! I'm actually surprised that we're in the bottom ten. A lot of people in the more rural parts of the state keep cats in their barns to take care of mice. Not enough though, apparently!
Do any of these states also fall in the top ten list of the LEAST number of dogs? 😆Seriously, as a cat lover, and a runner/hiker I really don't like dogs. Dogs love to attack runners. I've been attacked while out in my jog or bike ride more times than I can count, and that isn't including the billions of times I get barked at by dogs. As a highly sensitive person the barking unnerves me! I jump out of my skin about every time because these dogs come out of nowhere and start barking their heads off when I'm simply walking by! It would be great to move somewhere where there are no dogs. No barking to scare me, no poop to step in. No fear of being attacked. We need a state for cat lovers, no dogs allowed.
It is kinda sad to see my state, Illinois, among the bottom 10. The town I live in limits us to only 3 cats/dogs per household allowed. Seems like way too few cats to me.
I'm sad to say that Minnesota wasn't on the map. How disappointing, Minnesotans. I know there's a cat at your local shelter just waiting to help keep you warm during the winters. Get with it!!🐱🐈⬛🐈
Yes, another Oregonian, I have two beautiful boys, and, yes, they're absolutely my joy to be around. I am surrounded by boxes they sleep in on my bed. Seriously, for real.
California sucks !! Lol. I am shocked & understood at the same time !! I live in L.A.& I see everybody walking their dogs everywhere here !! Lol. The numbers have increased significantly in last decade !! Many apartments didn't allow dogs now allow !! Lol.A very intriguing/ very good video to watch !! ALWAYS GOOD !!! Thank you for this ,too ! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🐈⬛🐈🐩🐕🦺💕💞

I live in Washington and didn’t make the list. I feel my state is pretty heavy on both sides..cats and dogs. Most ppl I talk to have both in the household. I have 5 cats and a chihuahua! 😂 great topic!
As someone who lives in Louisiana and owns cats, i need to say that more people should adopt some kitties!
Happy and safe, they are cats after all
My sister and her husband has 2 cats and one dog.
Do this with countries!
Loved the video, but my state didn’t make the list, but we do live my a state that got on the list ! 😺😻😊😜😎🥳
Living in Montana I can say there are a lot of cats where I'm at. Most are farm cats, so they don't really get taken to the vet. They just get treated like friendly working strays around the farms
I need to move to Vermont now
Lived in CA for a while. CA is full of abandoned cats. They are everywhere. Not surprising they have a 5th the entire us homeless population why would it be any different for cats. I tried to rescue one and no shelters whould take her. I flew her home to AK.
All cats deserve to have a home
Thanks
I am from Texas. I'm so mad to see us on the bottom list. I have a kitty. Had one my whole life.
How to i help me cat if she is vomiting?
I'm in California. I'm surprised we're not one of the ones on the most cats list. Especially since the 2 breeds Bengal and Toyger were created in California. 🤷🏻♀️
Yes, California surprised me too!
It seems to me ,the higher the people population ,the more cats.
California and Texas have pretty close to the same number of residents
I think it’s because people rent and most landlords ban pets. I am in that position after having cats since I was 7. I now can’t have one.
I’ve been to turpentine creek. It was very cool!!
That's PAWsome!
They must not have counted barn cats if Texas ranked so low.
So good to hear indiaana's 4th, just got two. kittens XD
😺😺
Kinda surprised that Kentucky didn't make the list, there's a lot of cats out here. Although, I guess that barn cats aren't really considered pets 🤔
Wellllll ! Whoodathunkit ? Vermont is #1 with 44% of households having a cat(s). That would explain why they're so comfortable about going to several houses within "their" territory - they're out visiting friends who are indoor cats ! (and mooching free meals and snacks)
His or her humans, cats aren't property, they are beautiful felines
No, no grains for cats. Sad New York cat person. Only one household in my family is cat less due to allergies.
Nor WA state as well.😒🐈❤️❤️❤️
I came to the comments to look for the link for the video of the guy who rescued 13 cats. But I don't see it anywhere.
I’m a cat person and guess where I’m from you guessed it Kansas 😻
Go Vermont!🙂😎
New York should be more like Vermont, because there's thousands of homeless cats here and all around the world, dogs too, and a lot of wildlife living in the city and people complain when they see them and want them gone! When it's humanities fault that these poor animals have no homes in the first place! That's how fucked up we humans are.
🙂
I'm in Maine, I have ten cats.
How many are Maine Coons?
@@meow2u22 Two. Sunshine, and Jack Sparrow.
Love cat
Disappointed Marylander here… However, in our home, the cats out number the humans!
Aw man, Kentucky isn't listed. 😿
The Louisiana guy is awesome for that
Right?! 😺
Felines favorite subject
🐾
Cat-Gato. Gatito- kitten
😺😺😺
I live in Idaho--I gave 14 fur babies
My state Delaware did not make the either list.
No need to hint and nudge this Montanan to get a cat--I have two of them! I'm actually surprised that we're in the bottom ten. A lot of people in the more rural parts of the state keep cats in their barns to take care of mice. Not enough though, apparently!
I live in Nevada and we have 2 black cat rescues. One male and one female
I live in California, but I was born in Pennsylvania.
Right on. Fellow cat lover
Yes, HP Lovecraft... just don't ask or mention what his cat was actually called.
Dogs have owners. Cats have a staff. Cats were once worshipped as gods, and they never let us forget it.
Why didn't Kentucky make top 10! We most own more kitties my friends!
It is kinda sad to see my state, Illinois, among the bottom 10. The town I live in limits us to only 3 cats/dogs per household allowed. Seems like way too few cats to me.
🐺😍!
I had a cat that would eat corn on the cob. Another on wanted Nacho Cheese Doritos.
But sugar like salt and other stuff like that is some of the worst things for cats and other animals, stuff like that is fine for humans only
No . I live in Nevada
I'm sad to say that Minnesota wasn't on the map. How disappointing, Minnesotans. I know there's a cat at your local shelter just waiting to help keep you warm during the winters. Get with it!!🐱🐈⬛🐈
Kentucky didn’t make it and I have 9 cats.
Oregon isn't listed. I have a feeling it's a dog state. Not us! We ❤ cats!
