Brendadrew834 Lady Brenda, yes, the Vikings always did love the "red-haired" type. It is fact that almost any person in the Scandinavian nations with red-hair, are descended from Celtic (Irish) Women that the original Vikings captured during their journeys throughout the British Isles & brought them back to Scandinavian nations. And Iceland, though not considered a Scandinavian nation per se, yes! Almost ANYONE with red-hair in Iceland, is indeed descended from these beautiful red-haired young Women that the Vikings brought to that island as well.
I have been converted into a cat man when I met my wife. They are loving creatures with a character and loads of affection and trust. As a French engineer I stayed with my family 3 month in Atlanta in a rented flat. A cat visited us, multiple times daily, accepting to enter the flat provided the entry door remained opened, then we went back home. When we returned to Atlanta once or twice a year, we had to call the cat the first day (living in a luxuriant jungle-like garden near Emory University). Then he would spray our rental car (at the hub cap) so all the following days he was waiting for us, nearly jumping under the car. This went on for 11 years. He even showed us where he was living, under a building. Now, I am too old to take responsibility of a cat but I miss them.
@@darassylmoniakam My dear Darassyl, it isn't stupid to feel that you're too old to adopt a cat. Older people are afraid to adopt because they think that they might die and leave their cat to go to a shelter. No one wants to leave their beloved companion in a shelter or worse to be put to sleep. We all love our fur babies and want what's best for them.
I'm surprised and glad the the USA is number one for cat population and I'm surprised that Turkey was not on the list as they do love and protect their cats.😀😻
I thought the same thing. Actually I was surprised no majority Muslim nation made the cut. Perhaps they would on a per capita (or “catipa” as another poster so cleverly put it) basis.
I am shocked about Turkey. I was stationed there for 1 1/2 years while in the Air Force. I loved how they treated their puddie cats there. Even the stray population was well cared for. When I went to Istanbul, there were little cat houses all over the place. Some were even in little corner stores and such. They had little beds and places for cats to hang out. Food and water was also in them. Just outstanding all the way around.
@@LottiDotti76 the UA-cam channel Walter Santi is an example of this. Their garden and part of their house is for stray cats. A whole cat community lives there. The inside part has everything a cat need, even floor heating. They also have 3 house cats.
I just love Sarper Duman (spelling?) and his cat videos in Turkey. He rescues injured street cats and last count he had 19. He plays the piano and sometimes the cats help.
Cats have very sweet features. It has two beautiful eyes, adorably tiny paws, sharp claws, and two perky ears which are very sensitive to sounds. Yeah fr like 99% of Russian blues aren’t even from Russia lol they are just the breed name like I have a Russian blue cat that I got after I graduated high school and I live in a small ass mountain town in nc I got her from a friend who had a litter and didn’t even know what type of cat it was
i was upset cause every time a country has an issue the cats/dogs are also affected by the situation especially the strays,Hope many more people will like cats just like us do.
Hi Guys, The reason Turkey is not on the list because of the way they created this list. They are referring “pets” which means have an owner, registered etc. Cats in Turkey mostly don’t have an owner neither registered anywhere. Istanbul has the most stray cats compared to anywhere else in the world and we Turkish people look after them all together. Cheers
I'm surprised Turkey didn't make this list! Istanbul is famous for its cat loving population and well cared for "stray" cats that the entire community takes care of.
I like those french and Italian laws. On one hand abandoning pets it's horrible, on the other sometimes the situation forces it so having carers and free roaming is great.
I'm surprised that USA is #1! I have cats but I do not own them, they own me! Dogs have owners cats have staff. Also I worship cats like Egyptians did! Cats have not forgotten. 😻 PS subscribed!
That's not really true though. My 2 cats know who the head of the household is. And they constantly show me gratitude. Poor little Bullet can't just let it go when I pet him, he wants to provide something in return so he'll try to lick my hand while I'm trying to pet him and I just want him to relax and enjoy it.
It was rather appropriate as without cats we probably would never have been able to make agriculture work. Rats and other vermin would have made a lunch of it before we could eat it during the winter.
And absolutely every one of those 80 million cats is the most beautiful fur baby in the whole wide world. Right? Damn straight. Gail and my 6 bozos in Central Florida July 17, 2022

I'm surprised Istanbul didn't make the list. Also, kudos to Italy for the laws they have protecting cats. I'm surprised the U.S made it to #1 since I swear there are way more dog owners than cat. I guess it's just because of the high cat population that makes the U.S to #1.
@@dianayount2122 I was also thinking perhaps they dont have many cats as domesticated pets as the people take care of the strays and ferals, so not much need to find them homes. 🤷🏻♀️
@@ScarletRain26 there may be some that actually keep them as pets, but in Turkey everyone feeds all cats and are treated very well. I think they also have some really severe penalties if you intentionally harm or injure a cat in Turkey. Too bad the USA and some other countries don't adopt such measures, penalties or laws to protect them better!
Banning Russian cats is unethical and goes against kindness to all animals. They did not start a war. Animals have never been responsible for any geo-political turbulence so why are they being punished? It defeats the purpose of being a cat lover. The organization should be boycotted.
@@verreal that in turn stigmatizes that animal’s reputation and stops them having a home elsewhere. If that is the case Persian cats should be banned because they are Iranian or Afghan hounds should be excluded from competitions because they are also used by the Taliban or German Shephards should not see the light of day because they worked for Nazi’s.
That's the way I see it too. I also think about the extinction of life 500 million years in the future, and it makes me sad because that means the extinction of cats. No f's given about the humans. None at all. I'm hoping humans will make AIs that will bring about the robot apocalypse but the robots will have one thing programmed into their core being, love of cats. Hey from Germany. If i remember correct 2021 there were living 15,7 Million Pet Cats in German Households. My two fluffy girls, Bine and Söckchen (in English Socks) are one of them :) Interesting Video indeed. Brazil and Ukraine surprised me
I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for a year teaching English. The neighborhood I lived in was a bustling working class neighborhood. My little apartment was on the back alley of a major road where the sky train passed through. There all sorts of little shops and bodegas in those back alleys. This area, it was just over run with alley cats! If I left my place and walked 2 blocks to the 7-11, I would see at least 25 cats. They would climb up on the buildings all the time, up 4-5 stories on the tops. I heard them fighting every night. They were just part of the neighborhood. The locals liked them because they kept the rodents away. The people fed them some, but the cats mostly ate on their own. They weren't pets, they were rougher looking, and not cats you could just walk up and pet. If you got bitten or scratched by one, it meant a trip to the clinic for a round of shots. They weren't aggressive though. If you left them alone they left you alone. It was very interesting to see them in that kind of wild element.
We didn't have a pet cat in our home until I was around twelve years of age. Then our parents bought what would become a much cherished boy cat we called, Billy. At night, field mice scapperd inside the interior walls, but not long after the cat arrived the mouse noises stopped and peace reigned again. From then on as we moved out establishing families of our own became settled we introduced cats into our family. But their natural life span is regrettably quite short, average fifteen + years, and after one passed we bought a other. We loved them all dearly. Our daughter stayed with us for a year and bought with her a delightful British Short Hair grey and black tabby she had named Lenny. Our daughter is a ward nurse at a local hospital in town and when she moved out to be closer to her job, she left Lenny here with us because he seemed quickly to have established our property and all that sits on it as his territory that he defends with no doubts that it's his. Lenny has no limitations on where he can roam, yet still remains close too home in hiding places were he can see but not be seen. A flax Bush and a dividing hedge are favourite places of concealment. We pretend not to see Lenny there to save him the bother of finding other places where he can be invisible that maybe less than ideal. We still need to look out for our Cat friends because it's just the right thing to do.
Thank you, I enjoyed your presentation as always. I wonder if you could do another video in which you rank countries by pet cats per capita? That might be an interesting comparison too.
I was surprised that United States was 1#! I was almost certain that it would be China or Japan. They love Hello Kitty and other icon cat figures and see them with them often in their videos! But was very surprised and happy to see it was the United States!♥️😺♥️
It's interesting to learn which country have the largest number of cats. However I think it's even more interesting to compare to number of human citizens, Per Capita. That would show how popular cats are, not only that large countries in general have more cats than small.
Love love all my felines i’ve had i recently lost my ginger tabby after 12 yrs- i keep having to remind myself of tennyson who wrote tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all- my mango was such a loving and affectionate puss with a typical ginger personality- very friendly and sociable - i miss him sleeping with me and i take comfort in knowing he picked me out at the shelter and meowed and told me to take him home and he was so happy when i did ❤️❤️❤️- i’ve loved cats since i was a little girl- they were therapy and comforting to a shy introverted girl who struggled with a lot of fear and anxiety- their soft fur and purrs kept me calm - for those of you cat people with small children learning to read I recommend my favorite book as a child- millions of cats by wanda gagg - it began my love of cats and its a cute sweet story of one kitten who turns into millions lol- it has a good moral lesson for responsible pet ownership and that hoarding pets is harmful 😻😻😻😻😻🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

weird... I figured this would be a pet population per capita idea... but Canada has something like 8.1 million pet cats so I have no idea why they are not in here.
This was surprising that most European countries do, then USA. I was thinking "Canada?" before the big #1 reveal! I do agree about spending more on our pets, I think my cat has more toys than I do 🥰😸
I doubt we would, even if population size were taken into account. Real estate is expensive, vets are overworked and underpaid, the winters are cold and there are more and more laws asking we keep cats indoors for their entire lives.
@@nancyf7919 I live in northern Minnesota, and it's almost the same here with the cold, the vet scarcity, overworked and underpaid staff (my best friend is a vet tech at one of the two vets in my city) and the indoor cat thing as well, it's way too cold for them to be outside in winter for sure! My cat HATED when I took him outside after he got used to being indoors.
You failed to mention the long haired Maine Coon cat there! Also, I'm surprised the neither Turkey nor Thailand made the list, as both are cat-loving nations!
Japan makes sense to have a lot of cats. Smaller dwellings and a lot of people living alone or small families. And they are a quiet people it just seems like cats would be a good fit for that country in general having traveled there.
You left out Egypt. Cairo is full of cats, most of which are not pets but are everywhere. The country with the least that I visited was India. During the ten days I traveled throughout the country I only saw one. When asking Indians why there were no cats the question always went unanswered.
It would be interesting to have the ratio of pet cat population to citizen population. That would be a true indicator of who the most "cat-loving" nation is...
5:15 A a french man, I've heard about those "laws" but I'm not sure they're supposed to be followed by any owner here (fortunately). They're only mandatory when importing and selling pets, as well as for animals in shelters. Aside of this, you're totally free to adopt a pet if you wish to. In fact, just like everywhere else in the world, cats actually adopt you.
gli amanti dei gatti sono veramente tanti.. ma dovrebbero essere sempre di piu'' scegliendo magari gatti che sono nei rifugi.. ugualmente affettuosi e bellissimi.. con tanto bisogno di una casa e tanto amore!!
I figured US would be first, but Canada doesn't even rate? 😭😭😭 There used to be a stray cat colony on Parliament Hill! (Oops, I haven't been to visit them in a long time. Apparently, they were all adopted.) They have their own Wikipedia page! That should be your next video for leaving Canada off the list... 🤔 😁❤️
Very hard to believe this list cause you skipped Turkey completely It’s a very well known fact that almost every other person has a cat and well take care of stray ones.
It would be helpful to also base the number of cats to the countries' population. The USA and China have far greater populations than Britain for example. Very enjoyable video though.
One does not own a cat. Dogs have owners, while cats have staff. I started out being born in the Country that has the most cats and moved to number 5 on the list. However, I wouldn't change a thing and neither would my divas... 😸😸😸😸
Of cause bigger countries with more populations will have more cats then smaller ones but I thought this would be a countries with most cats per population thing to take that into account. Australia "Around 27% of households have cats, largely in line with the findings from 2016 (29%)." United states has 25% of households having a cat. Romania 45% of households owning cats. New Zealand has highest rate of pets in the world with " 41% of households sharing their home with at least one cat.
One more interesting fact about cats. They're the only animal known to have domesticated themselves. They knew a good thing when they saw it. More proof of their intelligence.
In some ways, I find it odd that Russia has a lot of cats--I wonder how well they're treated, in general, considering how they treat the people there. We've had three half Russian Blues--the third was due to one of the first two turning out to be a pseudo-hermaphrodite, and neither were fixed until after she'd had kittens with her brother. I was a bit shocked that none made it much past ten years old...most of our cats make it to at least fifteen.

My oldest granddaughter owns a beautiful calico, mostly black and white Snowshoe Siamese with beautiful blue eyes, one slightly crossed eye like Siamese cats have! He's kind of funny looking and real smart, too and has a great very affectionate personality! His name is Kumo which means cloud in Japanese! I call him "Adolph Fu Manchu" because he has a little black moustache under his nose like Hitler and has very long whiskers like Chinese Emperor Fu Manchu! Very fitting names for him!💗💗
Brendadrew834 Lady Brenda, yes, the Vikings always did love the "red-haired" type.
Become a foster cat care provider...contact local shelters
stupid statement.

Turkey, Egypt, and Japan, would have topped my list
I am shocked about Turkey. I was stationed there for 1 1/2 years while in the Air Force. I loved how they treated their puddie cats there. Even the stray population was well cared for. When I went to Istanbul, there were little cat houses all over the place. Some were even in little corner stores and such. They had little beds and places for cats to hang out. Food and water was also in them. Just outstanding all the way around.
I would have preferred they did a per capita list. It would have changed the list a lot.

Same. Turkey has so many strays but mostly they are treated well, it's not the same for all of the countries. I watch Walter Santi's videos too.
Cats have very sweet features. It has two beautiful eyes, adorably tiny paws, sharp claws, and two perky ears which are very sensitive to sounds. It has a tiny body covered with smooth fur and it has a furry tail as well. Cats have an adorable face with a tiny nose, a big mouth and a few whiskers under its nose.
Sadly México isn't in this list of countries. I'm from México and I LOVE CATS! I have rescued many cats from streets. At present I have three beautiful kitten. 💓🐈🐈🐈💓
I noticed Canada was also missed, according to statistics here we have 8.1 million cats up here. Some of the top ten mentioned have less than we do. Interesting, maybe Canada’s been lumped in with the UK?
I knew humans could be idiots, but this thing of banning the Russian cats is a new low.
It's fascist basically. Covered in democracy
Almdrs, agree my friend - I thought banning Russian Cats was incredibly ignorant as well! Come ON now....
Banning Russian Blues from competitive is the most stupid thing I have heard of in my life.
It's fascist. They are banning Russians for being Russian. Which is fascism
Hi Guys,
The reason Turkey is not on the list because of the way they created this list.
It's all about the love of cats world wide 😻
Salutations from California 🤗
I like those french and Italian laws. On one hand abandoning pets it's horrible, on the other sometimes the situation forces it so having carers and free roaming is great.

You said cats 🐈🐈 have staff. Should that be servants?
It's crazy how there's almost 80M cats in the USA.
And absolutely every one of those 80 million cats is the most beautiful fur baby in the whole wide world.

Istanbul is in Turkey. I agree, the Turks love their cats. Possible they don't have data?

I think they also have some really severe penalties if you intentionally harm or injure a cat in Turkey. Too bad the USA and some other countries don't adopt such measures, penalties or laws to protect them better!
Politics I fear
Banning Russian cats is unethical and goes against kindness to all animals. They did not start a war. Animals have never been responsible for any geo-political turbulence so why are they being punished? It defeats the purpose of being a cat lover. The organization should be boycotted.
@@verreal that in turn stigmatizes that animal’s reputation and stops them having a home elsewhere. I agree, it's quite stupid.
Cat's need to be in charge instead of people. 👍

I agree, and also I worry that cats will be abandoned if they can't enter them into shows.
all those cats affected by war :( as an american, this finally brings the tragedy into focus. it must end.
Not allowed to promote peace!
That's the way I see it too. I also think about the extinction of life 500 million years in the future, and it makes me sad because that means the extinction of cats. No f's given about the humans. Hey from Germany. If i remember correct 2021 there were living 15,7 Million Pet Cats in German Households. My two fluffy girls, Bine and Söckchen (in English Socks) are one of them :)
Interesting Video indeed.
I was surprised Turkey did not make the list. They really love their cats.
Cats are very cool
Yes, they are! 😺
I was surprised that Turkey wasn't on the list.
Awesome video of cats. I'm glad the USA own the most cats.
Do the percentages next. Smaller countries with smaller people populations; but, they may have a higher percentage of people who own cats.
A more relevant comparison would be the number of cats per capita.
Missed the Siberian, a cat evolved to live in extream cold.

Canada only has 30 million people in it. It had no chance of being on this list which is mostly based on human population.
How about the countries with the highest number of cats per human population?
Or countries whose culture requires people to take care of stray cats as well, such as Turkey.
It would be helpful to also base the number of cats to the countries' population. The USA and China have far greater populations than Britain for example. Very enjoyable video though.
I expected Turkey to be on the list. Maybe it's #11. Cats roam freely in Istanbul, sometimes attending orchestra concerts.

In some ways, I find it odd that Russia has a lot of cats--I wonder how well they're treated, in general, considering how they treat the people there.
