I think it's cool to see how Jim harkens back to the classic artists... Stevie Ray and David Gilmour... Goes to show that no matter what style you play, you cant get around the masters. Great Rig!
I know that for the IOWA Period, he tracked with Micks BC riches and used BC rich's mainly on tour as well. I'm basing this of a interview he and Mick had a year or two ago.
@wholikemychopstix His Tele's are Custom Shop Fender (USA) models ,just the Tele for his drop A tuning (Heretic Anthem,Psychocosocial,Everything Ends...) are Mexican made models just like you can buy in any good guitar shop :-)
Jim uses Marvin (his guitar tech) to switch his pedals on during Slipknot concerts due to the large amount of chaos that goes on, on stage. When he plays with Stone Sour he switches the pedals himself.
All guitars can be used for metal if you have the right hardware and settings. All of his guitars for the harder songs all carry EMGs, not to mention he uses Orange amps which are really good for distortion and his pedals over all. Plus Root is a big fan of vintage style things. He really enjoys Fenders which makes sense since his main influences are classic rock/blues players.
I really like the Jazzmaster. It's got more girth to it than a standard one would it seems. Thing is badass! And what does he mean by lockdowns? My Strat has "safety posts" as I've called them where you feed the tip into a hole on the peg and it practically winds itself. Is this the same thing?
Those are hard to find, you can find companies do custom make them, If it's just to stay indoors (studio, home etc) try Stagg GDC-6 or Stagg GDC-8, I own the GDC-8
I don't know what he uses now but I've watched 2 other rig videos for Jim in Slipknot and he used the Rivera Knucklehead Reverb. But in the masterclass he used an Orange combo.
Jim, where is the PRS guitars? Peavey 5150 on maxon overdrive? I miss it!! I know over the years we can change, but IOWA album was amazing. Bad english, sorry!!
typical guitar nut: "this one is totally stock, I modded this and changed this and swapped out this". "I don't use a lot of pedals" (shows you tons of pedals he uses) hahaha cool dude
@harleyrider7398 Jim jumps around, headbangs, he used to joke around with Pauly onstage before he died, and he gets really into the music. He doesn't just "stand there."
I don't like Slipknot and I've never heard Stone Sour. Very surprising and cool that he likes the Gilmour so much. He knew way more than I was expecting based off of his statement at the beginning, haha. Very cool.
D# tuning for ladies funny guy love him for this meanwhile John Petrucci be like I created the one of the most heavy song "The Root of All Evil" in the tuning for ladies. 😹
I think Corey is actually (or was) quite shy. I've read his book "The Deadly Seven Sins" or whatever it was called :D and it was quite a shoking story! And I've read some "meanings" of the song lyrics and many of them are about Corey's life.
For guitar players in rock, and especialy metal styles, they are very active onstage. they like to run around and mess with the audience, headbang, free to do what ever they want. wether or not they operate their pedal bored doesnt relate at all to how good they are on guitar. having your tech do all of the switching is more efficient; seeing as that is at least half of his job on top of having to make sure amps and any rack gear you have works great. plus the tech can switch faster. there ya go
After 8 years this is still my favourite rig rundown, because this rig is a little different than Jim‘s regular rig.
he's such a cool dude
'And E flat for the... ya know the songs for the ladies' Haha so smooth
Jim rules. Always has. Always will.
Can't get enough of gear-tour videos, and this one is 18 minutes with my favourite guitarist. Great!
His passion for the guitars is inspiring.
he knows a lot for not knowing a lot
Jim's laugh is fuckin' adorable
Jim reminds me so much of "the dude" lol.
But one of my favorite guitarists none the less. \m/
If the Dude was a guitar player, he would be Jim.
"I don't know why this tuner is in there! Because my tuner's over there...walking across the stage!" 😂😂😂
I've never paid attention to Jim Root. Till now. He's got that knowledge of experience.
This is the best rig rundown video I´ve seen yet!
lol "you have to have at least 1 v guitar in life, I happen to have 14"
Very cool rig. Love the vintage strats and the Orange-amps are beautiful!
The EMG pickups help with that. Fenders give a good, crisp sound, and that sounds cool with solid EMGs, which are ideal for any metal band.
Jim is a badass
Is it just me or seems like every fucking tall guy is so nice ?
Been drinking with a 6'3'' guy 1 night, 1 of the best night in my life.
I've watched this way too many times. But I can't get enough of that damn tele!!! Plus Jim is the man! \m/ \m/
I think it's cool to see how Jim harkens back to the classic artists... Stevie Ray and David Gilmour... Goes to show that no matter what style you play, you cant get around the masters. Great Rig!
Well said. I love how much of a geek he is over his gear, he knows his shit!
His laugh is awsome...
Really love the jazzmaster!!!
I wish we could see what gear he uses from their self title, 1999 to vol3 2004
he used an old Laney AOD 50w Tube Lead and in Iowa he mixed it with a 5150
Mobile Website Solutions do you know what guitars and pick ups too? I'm assuming emgs.
Brian Miller During that time, Jim really jumped around with guitar companies, including PRS, Charvel, Jackson, and Maverick.
Mobile Website Solutions for IOWA tour he used two Mesa Dual Caliber's (one for iso-cab speaker) and some Maxon effects too
I know that for the IOWA Period, he tracked with Micks BC riches and used BC rich's mainly on tour as well. I'm basing this of a interview he and Mick had a year or two ago.
"so long as Corey is in tune, doesn't if everything else isn't" - Fucking Brilliant haha!
Love the jazzmaster, sweet!!
aww man, those white guitars next to each other looks so cool. great gear/rig.
@wholikemychopstix His Tele's are Custom Shop Fender (USA) models ,just the Tele for his drop A tuning (Heretic Anthem,Psychocosocial,Everything Ends...) are Mexican made models just like you can buy in any good guitar shop :-)
Nowadays it would be, "Hey everybody, Jim Root from Slipknot".
That laugh gets me every time!
He seems like a really fun guy to be around
Jim Root played with this (metal) Jazzmaster yesterday at Rock in Rio!
Jim uses Marvin (his guitar tech) to switch his pedals on during Slipknot concerts due to the large amount of chaos that goes on, on stage. When he plays with Stone Sour he switches the pedals himself.
Great chuckle ....

awesome vid. awesome guy. awesome guitar player. that is all
I love the 'Fruit Box' at 16:57!!!
It's obvious they're in Australia while filming this. Reminds me of summer while growing up in the 80's!
@Tobeo dude i dont even like metal but im such a gear head im watching all of these and loving them
I really like the Jazzmaster. It's got more girth to it than a standard one would it seems. Thing is badass! And what does he mean by lockdowns? My Strat has "safety posts" as I've called them where you feed the tip into a hole on the peg and it practically winds itself. Is this the same thing?
jim's sound is amazing
jim's is like the coolest guy ever!

Bad english, sorry!!
I Love Jim
I must buy everything Jim uses!!!!
My epiphone thunderbird goth is starting to get that "vintage" look, it doesn't stick out as much as on white, but it does look cool.
He uses orange for slipknot now sense 2008 if im correct, there is promo shots for all hope is gone with him standing on the orange amps.
14 flying v's!!!!!!
DAMN!!! Ain't nobody got money for that
"You can cut one of the volumes and do the whole 'eh-eh-eh-eh-eh'' hahah best way to describe it.
great video, very in depth and hilarious as well :-)
typical guitar nut: "this one is totally stock, I modded this and changed this and swapped out this". "I don't use a lot of pedals" (shows you tons of pedals he uses) hahaha cool dude
I want a Jim root tele!!!
I watched Jim on the full concert vid in Sommerset Wi for knot fest. He stayed in one spot most of the night. I forgot what about Jimi Hendrix
His tache is awesome!
Oh dayum, yea you're right lol. Just checked it out. That's pretty interesting. I've just never really gotten into Orange tho.
Came on UA-cam to watch him root stuff, this was in recommended
I like the way Jim Root plays the least (traditionally) metal guitars and makes them metal.
great vid!
"AH you know then satan got into my life" *pulls out an axe*
@harleyrider7398 Jim jumps around, headbangs, he used to joke around with Pauly onstage before he died, and he gets really into the music. He doesn't just "stand there."
So, does Jim use any distortion pedals or just the amps true distortion, I know he uses a boost pedal but does anybody know please?
THATS IN MELBOURNE!!!, He gave me and my Friends Guitar Picks that night :D
you gotta love Jim's laugh :D hahahah
Jim Root seems like a cool guy.
@GuitarGod94XxXx The wah is'nt true bypass. The wah is plugged to a pad that makes it so, its made by G Lab
I hope to god fender release that Jazzmaster. Yes i am aware he has the strat and the tele and they are brilliant but that Jazzmaster man. WOW
how he use NS-2
in fx loop ?
damn i want his signature strat cause it looks like it fades to a shell pink from it original color.....NOW THAT FUCKING AWESOME!!
@ThieleM thnks :). but i meant as far as brand name?
13:43
Did anyone else catch that? His laugh, it was like, it reminded me of a very French guy? Maybe? Dunno but it was cute :)
I don't like Slipknot and I've never heard Stone Sour. Very surprising and cool that he likes the Gilmour so much. He knew way more than I was expecting based off of his statement at the beginning, haha. Very cool.
Hell yeah!
I love Jim hahas
Is it weird that my NS-2 actually boosts my signal about 2db? It still kills the humming just does that weird slight boost.
'i happen to have 14 of them'
D# tuning for ladies funny guy love him for this meanwhile John Petrucci be like I created the one of the most heavy song "The Root of All Evil" in the tuning for ladies. 😹
Coolest man ever!
Fender please make that jazzmaster, I want one!!!!
Exactly!
He's like a really crazy guy and seemed stoned or/and drunk all the time ...but he's definitely one of my favourites guitarists :D
What did he say he was using to switch between the pedals? I just couldn't hear it correctly.
Why does Jim use Rivera amps for Slipknot and Orange for Stone Sour?
Does anyone know the exact name of his Custom Wah Pedal?
@MichaelD8393
A really good one
I think Corey is actually (or was) quite shy. I've read his book "The Deadly Seven Sins" or whatever it was called :D and it was quite a shoking story! And I've read some "meanings" of the song lyrics and many of them are about Corey's life.

He has a kick ass collection; vintage guitars are the best.
they should do his slipknot rig to see if he upgraded it
he was probably just being humble. he seems like a down to earth guy
cool video
Thanks : )
I
FUCKING
LOVE
JIM
!
:)
Hopefully Fender & Squire drops that Jazzmaster soon...
I love Jim. He's so fucking zen!! Not this big metal star!! Just down to earth. I've met him a few times and he's soo cool.
Too...much...awesomes :D wish i had that much gear :P
my NS-2 tends to suck some tone.
and NS-2 also compress the signal a little.
i would love a fender strat with a neck thru body,
i love fender too =D
Yes
where is this tele made? mexico like the other or is his usa made?
