Michael, I totally agree. Another brilliant Tone Poet release. I listened to my copy last night. Along with the individual performances of the band, I was amazed by the soundstage width, height and tremendous depth. In addition, the transparency, pace and dynamics are startling.
Nice Micheal....I just received the other Tone Poet Blue Note by Sonny Clark....its fantastic !!!....I must say I have been going back and listening to my other Tone Poet Blue Notes and they sound amazing....they did a fantastic job with this series....got to check out this McCoy Tyner record...I have seen this record in the past in the used record shops....must talk a listen....I also bought the Oliver Nelson the latest reissue....and still listening to some pass purchases.....as always enjoy the music.....Ed in New York 😎🎼🎵🎶🎵🗽🌁
This Tone Poet was a really impressive selection that I had never heard before, a mix of hard bop and the avant-garde with a rare clarinet appearance from Wayne Shorter. Not to mention the album quality and mastering we have come to expect from this series. This is top-tier and there is no doubt in my mind that these will be sought after by future collectors. Wow.
Just got my copy yesterday. Haven't listened yet but looking forward to it. The Real McCoy was one of my favorite releases lately so I am hoping this is just as good.
Lesser known titles may mean better audio quality, since the master tapes have not been used as much as the "heavy-hitter" titles. Plus you get more titles to expand your collection -- versus 7 different pressings of the same title.
Thanks for the great recommendation. You mentioned cleaning ... I have not seen a video of you describing your routine. I would be interested in knowing what you do !!
I've been digging into this question of what makes Classic Series and What makes Tone Poet, and it doesn't appear to be that the Tone Poet titles are any less well-known because they are in any way musically inferior . It seems like they just never received the exposure they deserved when the sessions were recorded, being shelved or their release delayed for reasons and circumstances that had nothing to do with the merit of the music. How blessed we are that we now have available these uncompromisingly audiophile, Kevin Gray mastered, fully analog from the tapes, editions. In many cases for the first (and possibly the last) time. No less of a privilege is the Classic series, also remastered from the tapes and fully analog to vinyl, for the first time in many years (remembering that the 75 anniversary releases were mastered from digital PCM files). This is a unique time in audio history and should be appreciated. It's difficult to imagine that it will ever be possible again to have the Blue Note catalogue remastered rom the original tapes.
Hey Michael! Fantastic record! As a pianist myself I’m particularly interested in jazz pianists. There’s definitely something going on with these releases - the Sonny Clark is out as I’ve seen people do vids on it and there’s a Discogs entry for it - maybe it just hadn’t reached Europe/the U.K. yet!
What a stunning album! It definitely stands out against the flock of BN80s and Tone Poets. Here’s to hoping this is just a backup copy for my UHQR pressing within the next few years!
If you’ve not heard it, check out the recent reissue of The Nathan Davis Sextet ‘Makatuka’ on Segué (through Scorpio distribution in the UK, very hit and miss quality control!). A real hidden gem of an album. Beautiful playing, and a vocal track that actually works in a serious jazz album. First time it’s been released on any format in 50 years, although weirdly you can buy the mp3 from Amazon!? Looking forward to the live stream experiment 😎
What Album is the breaking point for batch 1 to 2? I have been impressed with all the ones I have gotten so far, especially for the price. Almost have them all!
Greetings. Great videos. I watch your channel quite often and have a question related to the community, but not to this particular video. I’m a music fan and appreciate quality. I have 8-Tracks, cassettes, CDs and, of course, vinyl. I’m attempting to thin the heard, so to speak, and spending more time thinking about quality and records as investments. I have the Miles Davis UHQR pressing and a handful of imported records, but I’m looking for more options as I dig in the crates of the world. Here is my question. When looking at used records, are Columbia Masterworks and RCA Red Seal records good for 1) high quality, 2) investment, 3) both or 4) neither? Thank you for your time, experience and knowledge.
I love your videos, but I don’t understand why in the last three videos. You were cut off mid sentence. I would have loved to here want was left on the cutting room floor, that you had to stay. It was a big let down. I know it was important. Thank you again for the videos, you make.
Stop, please stop, you are costing me a fortune, another record to pick up, agghhhh. Seriously, another great video, another tip to follow up, thank you.

@@rodrigollanes7619 I didn't get passing ships so I can't say, I do love Andrew Hill though. There seems a tendency to purchase TP whether you like a particular release or not because it’s a TP. That is backwards; you should buy the record because you like the music not the other way around. I’m sure the packaging and mastering are good but that’s not the issue for me. You have to like the music and in this case I don’t. As clarification, the recording is well known to BN fans.

If you are listening Blue Note Tone Poet folks. Focus hard next on west coast. Make it a thing. They swung harder than people realized.

FYI, find this record in any format you can find it. I have the 73 black "B" pressing, and it also sounds very good.

And Michael, I highly recommend checking the titles from BN LT series from late seventies. Many are becoming TPs, truly hidden gems
If you liked the Tyner, you will absolutely love the Sonny Clark.

Agree 100%. This man's passion and genuine delivery is impossible to not be moved by. Michael is the man. I love this human.

What a pity that some Blue Note 80 Series are not Tone Poet Records Quality
Fantastic release! question. Isn't it the third batch (first-2019, second 2020)?
I was about to comment the same thing, it's not the first time Micheal says it's the second batch in his videos :)
video just randomly cuts out at the end
