Anyway, I ended up switching to a cheaper scissor-switch keyboard. There's just enough tactile response during activation, which I like. I realize that this video is just him saying that he doesn't really care about the feel of the keys or particularly like the sound. He's willing to trade complete silence and a lower price tag for more key precision, which if he's not doing a whole lot of typing or a whole lot of pc gaming...is fine. I've been using a 3$ membrane keyboard for 4 years, switched to a mechanical for the first time earlier this month and it really makes me want to type, like nonstop. It just felt satisfying. But I guess it's just a hype for this new stuff i bought
Did something very similar to you. Had the HyperX FPS pro TKL (which was a great keyboard btw) and bought a Razer Cynosa V2. I think mechanical keyboards for gaming are a complete meme. as long as you have key roll over fixed which virtually all gaming branded membrane keyboards do (razer cynosa v2 has 10 key rollover for example) then they perform identically for gaming in my experience.
You definitely can do gaming on a membrane but mechanical has its benefits with not having to press the key all the way down, better responsiveness, and longevity of the keyboard as one key going bad is fixable on a mechanical as compared to a membrane. Membrane has really just become the more super low-cost option
Personally I think the Logitech K810 is the best premium membrane keyboard, with awesome features such as portability, backlighting, 3-device Bluetooth connectivity... and silentness...? However, it has been officially discontinued, and a new ISO European one is hard to find and borders the price of a premium mechanical keyboard. That said, I'll probably still get that Logitech K810 membrane keyboard.
Five years ago, you used a membrane keyboard in 2023? That's astounding. Are you marketing that ability? Seems like it would be more rewarding than making UA-cam videos.
Yea the thing with membrane keyboards is they pretty much all feel the same, are mushy as all hell, and the actuation distance is literally only bottoming out, whereas on a mechanical keyboard, you dont have to bottom out to actuate.
I love my mechanical keyboard. But I still have a few membrane keyboards that I still use and they get the job done fine for typing. I have used membrane keyboards pretty much my whole life so I know how to use them. Gaming is not all that great, but they are ok for typing. I would never replace my mechanical keyboard though for a membrane one unless it broke and I was broke and needed a keyboard that minute.
I got mechanic keyboard I dislike it I feel like worst gamer and also I use thin membrane keyboard with light no rgb that feel nice. also I got quiet mechanic keyboard sound even louder then membrane
mechanical keyboards are better they have lower latency last longer have a wider range of customization if you want a quiet mechanical keyboard use cherry mx red switches with o-rings but if you like membrane keyboards man good for you
My DELL membrane keyboard from like 15 years ago has taken a lot of smashes, spills, ant infestations and just a clean and it still feels as good as new. I've been through some mechanical keyboard but i've always put them aside cuz they always have the problems of switches getting stuck, or not working after a few hits... That's why i've switched back to my old membrane cuz I don't want to worry about my keyboard breaking or having a problem...XD
the reason why your mechanical keyboard was so loud is that you have blue switches. Blue's are clicky switches. if you want something that is quite you need something like the cherry MX red silent switches or an equivalent from another brand
There is a world of difference between mechanical keyboards. I ended up trying about 10 different types of keyboards, including several mechanical and several membrane (including scissor switch chiclet style keyboards). What did I find out? First of all, just like people who are not audiophiles cannot appreciate high-end audio equipment, if your fingers can't tell the difference, don't bother with the expensive keyboard hobby. Just get something cheap and reliable that has the features you want, and don't worry even about what type or kind. Read the reviews and make sure it won't break down on you in a month of normal use. I don't know if I can consider myself an audiophile, but bad headphones and bad speakers annoy the crap out of me. I can't stand the distortions in cheap speakers and listening to a high quality audio device is very enjoyable for me. In the same way, I almost kind of wish I had not ever tried high quality keyboards because now I'm hooked. I liked the mechanical keyboards well enough but once I got my Cidoo V87 ($139) my opinion completely changed. It's amazing. It makes a sound I love, the feel of the red (linear) switches is just right, and it is such a joy to type on. I still like typing on a high quality scissor-switch membrane (I recommend the HP 870), but it still cannot compare to my Cidoo 87. I didn't realize there could be such a dramatic difference in the quality of a keyboard. Trust me when I tell you that bad mechanical keyboards are constantly giving people the wrong idea. It doesn't have to be RIDICULOSLY EXPENSIVE (e.g. $400), but it needs to be high quality. And the Cidoo V87 (comes in other sizes like V65) proves to me you can get a premium quality aluminum, gasket-mounted, RBG backlit, wireless keyboard for under $139. And it only seems to be getting better because Hypio Tech reviewed the Womier S-K71 and it sounds amazing for $90. Now, I find myself looking for excuses to type something. I've even taking up typing exercises and in about a month I've gone from 60 wpm to over 100. That's how enjoyable a proper keyboard is. Like I said, it's not for everyone, but there is a reason why keyboards are becoming such a big hobby and why UA-cam keyboard hobbyists have so many subscribers.
I had a mechanical keyboard at one point- I replaced it with a membrane keyboard, never going back. I like membrane over mechanical because I prefer the feel and silence.
I don't know if ur going to see this but since I was little I wanted a keyboard since I've seen famous UA-camrs use it and I wanted so bad. But since im getting more older I've seen membrane keyboards more cheaper and sounding better than some mechanical keyboards. Since I have a setup I bought a membrane and I painted it from fully white to a greyish color and white which looks awesome.
I just made the "switch". First tried a Razer and it was good, but the spacebar was clicky as hell- super annoying! So sent it back and now have a HyperX, but still have same concerns as you. It's still clicky - and wow it's almost too sensitive!! I'm not used to it yet, but I keep tying the semi-colon key just from moving my finger or resting my finders on it. It's nice to have more responsive keys, but the are so responsive it's almost like just THINKING about typing and the key activates. So here I am exploring a new membrane again.. Thanks for posting and your thoughts.
I bought a mechanical keyboard for like 6 months ago. But to be honest, i like My old Logitech UltraX that is about fifteen years old. I think it just feals better, it feels more naturalism somehow
Mechanical keyboards are faster to register a keystroke because even if you dont fully press the keys it will register and theres different type of switches and mods you can do to make it quiter like adding foam in the case and sound dampning o rings around the keycaps
The first time I was using a computer was 30 years ago. It was a mechanical keyboards. Every single computer on the lab was mechanical keyboard those days. It was clutchy, clunky and as hard to type as typewriter, thick as brick... surefire to CTS and shoulder pain. I think the only good thing with mechanical keyboard back then was that you can build your finger muscles typing on those keyboards. The first time I used Logitech membrane keyboard... I feel like poking a pillow, it silent and soft. I fell in love right away with membrane keyboard. I can't fathom why people hates membrane keyboard so much these days.
for some reason i like typing on a membrane keyboard more than I like typing on a membrane keyboard, but i really like using the mechanical keyboard I have for playing games because I think whenever I press a key, my movements feel quicker and snappier. When I used to use a membrane keyboard for gaming, it would feel clunky and not as snappy.
isn't that kinda weird though. i mean laptops have membrane keyboards and they work fine or feel better than the membrane keyboards available for desktop. if you ask me something very fishy is going on arouny here
To be honest the difference is just the sound mainly. For a normal person. Ive been play csgo for 2 years and got to global and I think I was pretty good at csgo. They I,, upgraded " to mechanical keyboard. Never been so disappointed, like nothing changed, only one thing my friends started complaining about the sound it produces. People say tHe ReSpOnSe TiMe is better at mechanical. For many of my friends and people what tried my mechanical keyboard compared side by side with membrane, Said they felt nothing only the loud sound.
So yesterday, I opened up keyboard for some reason because I was kinda stupid, and I wanted to be smart. ;( I took out all the screws, opened it all and saw the domes, 2 of the rubber dome things were lost, I then found it and put it at the enter and caps key since they can't be pressed into. Then after like 3 hours, I slept with it since it was like 4 AM and I was watching the TV when opening it up and all. Today...I moved a bit of the rubber thing, and it feels hella tactile, it went from a red feeling into brown keys of a membrane, so nice. Also, I realized this wires are not connected anymore. *Frick*
I had a Velocifire TKL 78 (Mechanical). I just got a Redragon S101 yesterday. I love my S101, even more than my TKL 78, I am typing on it right now. I felt STUPID for doing it, but this video has made me fell a LOT better about it. I like the feel of the S101 better to be honest. The keys also have a rubber coat, so I think it is better than my mechanical Velocifire TKL 78.
the reason that you have to release a button before pressing it again really throws me off. because im used to hold the button like halfpressed a lot of times on the WASD keys and doing that on a mechanical keyboard just doesnt work. i think its kinda like a campaign that forces people to pay more for less cuz they think its faster than other keyboards but it isnt since you have to fully release the button before pressing it again.
I am all for people enjoying whatever you will, but a lot of the issues you brought up are not issues with mechanical keyboards......they are issues with gaming keyboards. But the reality is that custom keyboards have a variety of solutions for the issues you brought up that are even the same cost or cheaper than gaming keyboards. You can get switches that are super quiet or linear switches which many like for gaming as they are easier to press down. Even stock custom keyboards are far superior to gaming keyboards both in quality and price. So before you give up on mechanical and the benefits of it over the membrane, I would say try looking into at least budget options of custom keyboards like Keychron, Royal Kludge, NuPhy, Yunzi, Montech, and so many more. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what these keyboards offer compared to gaming keyboards.
The only low-profile membrane keyboard I use is the Dragonwar Dark Sector. Some membrane keyboards are really scratchy and hard to press like the razer cynosa.

I am doing the same thing. used a mech board from 2018 to until recently. I love the softer feel of a membrane and its not loud so i wont wake anyone up. I really have better tactility using a membrane over a mech board.
When it comes to mechanical keyboards, i type really easy and it improves my reaction time by alot
@Spartan ok buddy this was a month ago, calm down my opinion on this has changed so please stop
@Martn i to ignore your opinion
Channel-AppleJuice he was talking about your reaction time????????¿
Imaging a keyboard that has membrane and mechanical switches that automatically changes when you choose lmao
yes its called having 2 keyboards
Having tried a mechanical keyboard (blue switches), I found the key travel to be too much and I couldn't get used to it.
Maybe a low-profile mech. keyboard would have suited my typing style better.
Anyway, I ended up switching to a cheaper scissor-switch keyboard.
There's just enough tactile response during activation, which I like. The key travel is just adequate, without being too shallow to deep.
Oh man, you will love Topre keyboards. They are basically higher quality membranes with each rubber domes on each key. You should look it up! Edit: Spellcheck
I will! Thanks for letting me know
This is why I keep all my keyboards because mechanical isn't always better
what
the title
it scares me
Hmm, interesting, you might be interested in electro-capacitive switches (basically high quality membrane). Youll mainly see them as "Topre" which are fairly expensive, but some companies (such as Niz Plum) have their own version of electro-capacative switches, that are cheaper.
I realize that this video is just him saying that he doesn't really care about the feel of the keys or particularly like the sound. He's willing to trade complete silence and a lower price tag for more key precision, which if he's not doing a whole lot of typing or a whole lot of pc gaming...is fine. He's the type of person a membrane board is for lol
Q: Why I use membrane keyboard in 2021?
A: I'm poor.
if theyre too loud, get cherry mx silent switches
I bottom out the keys, so I think they'd still make a lot of noise
They still making noise, and are so freakin expensive

@@doughnuts5364 no you cant.
Tried both mech and memb keyboards for years and like you i also gear more towards membrane keyboards.
guys its 2022.
thanks for the reminder... just changed the title
@@GLAKJack @GLAK Jack damn you still use a membrane keybaord? Did you decide at least to lube it or do a tape mod for it to sound great?

Personally I think the Logitech K810 is the best premium membrane keyboard, with awesome features such as portability, backlighting, 3-device Bluetooth connectivity... and silentness...? However, it has been officially discontinued, and a new ISO European one is hard to find and borders the price of a premium mechanical keyboard. That said, I'll probably still get that Logitech K810 membrane keyboard.
Five years ago, you used a membrane keyboard in 2023? That's astounding. Are you marketing that ability? Seems like it would be more rewarding than making UA-cam videos.
i like how the title says 2021 but it was made in 2018 this is golden
I'm still using the same membrane keyboard!
Yea the thing with membrane keyboards is they pretty much all feel the same, are mushy as all hell, and the actuation distance is literally only bottoming out, whereas on a mechanical keyboard, you dont have to bottom out to actuate.
I agree. If they weren't as mushy they would be God tier...
my guy be messin with time 😳
4 years ago hmmm, hello time Traveler
Don't get me wrong I'm membrane all the way but you should try other switches if you have a mechanical still they all feel different
mechanical keyboards are better they have lower latency last longer have a wider range of customization if you want a quiet mechanical keyboard use cherry mx red switches with o-rings but if you like membrane keyboards man good for you

That's why i've switched back to my old membrane cuz I don't want to worry about my keyboard breaking or having a problem...XD
because you buying shitty mechanical keyboards, try hexgears gk707, varmilo va68m, leopold fc750r

"Why I use a membrane keyboard in 2020" upload date 2018
Because he is still rolling with membrane keyboard.
the reason why your mechanical keyboard was so loud is that you have blue switches. Blue's are clicky switches. if you want something that is quite you need something like the cherry MX red silent switches or an equivalent from another brand
Video was uploaded August 2018, I'm curious do you still use a membrane keyboard in 2021? or did you just change the title to fish views?
I have a mechanical keyboard with blues but its too loud on discord/obs so I'm gonna get a membrane
you could also get silent switches gjasdglad, blues are INCREDIBLY loud

Now 2021
Just watched his video on him talking about how people think he sounds like some youtubers.
He really does sound like techno blade though-
I’ve umm smashed my hand against my membrane keyboard multiple times and it has not broken yet.
I had a mechanical keyboard at one point- I replaced it with a membrane keyboard, never going back. I like membrane over mechanical because I prefer the feel and silence.
silent switches?
Everyone: Why Do You Sound Like Techoblade?
GLAK Jack: I get that a lot...

TITLE: Why I use a Membtane Keyboard in 2021
The title compared to the day its posted really confused me for a moment there
I don't know if ur going to see this but since I was little I wanted a keyboard since I've seen famous UA-camrs use it and I wanted so bad. But since im getting more older I've seen membrane keyboards more cheaper and sounding better than some mechanical keyboards. Since I have a setup I bought a membrane and I painted it from fully white to a greyish color and white which looks awesome.
Reject mechanical。 Return to membrane。
@Luka Ilashvili Y E S D O I T
@Luka Ilashvili yes
@Luka Ilashvili Imagine calling someone autistic because of his keyboard preference. I know it's his name but really?
Honestly, if you have to press the switches super fast, like playing a Rhythm game, then a mechanical keyboard is a must
Guess what ? Its 2023
I like how the video was posted 3 years ago and you talk about 2018 but the title was changed claiming 2022 haha xD
I didnt know technoblade was so into keyboards
Mechanical keyboards are faster to register a keystroke because even if you dont fully press the keys it will register and theres different type of switches and mods you can do to make it quiter like adding foam in the case and sound dampning o rings around the keycaps
That’s cause you have a speed switch my g
Just get a membrane with mechanical feel, it feels like membrane but looks like a mechanical it looks nice so you get both things at once
He did the title WRONG it says: Why I Use a Membrane Keyboard in 2021... But the video was uploaded 3 years BEFORE 2021
he just edited it, and in the actual video he says it's 2018
for some reason i like typing on a membrane keyboard more than I like typing on a membrane keyboard, but i really like using the mechanical keyboard I have for playing games because I think whenever I press a key, my movements feel quicker and snappier. When I used to use a membrane keyboard for gaming, it would feel clunky and not as snappy.
You like typing on membrane keyboards more than membrane keyboards?
isn't that kinda weird though. i mean laptops have membrane keyboards and they work fine or feel better than the membrane keyboards available for desktop. if you ask me something very fishy is going on arouny here
for everyday use i would always pick membrane keyboards ,
for gaming mechanical
thats why i have 4 of each
To be honest the difference is just the sound mainly.
For many of my friends and people what tried my mechanical keyboard compared side by side with membrane,
Said they felt nothing only the loud sound.
why was the title in 2023 instead of 2018
So yesterday, I opened up keyboard for some reason because I was kinda stupid, and I wanted to be smart. ;(
I took out all the screws, opened it all and saw the domes, 2 of the rubber dome things were lost, I then found it and put it at the enter and caps key since they can't be pressed into.
Its 2022🎉
I got a membrane keyboard which I thought is a mechanical keyboard because of its appearance.
the reason that you have to release a button before pressing it again really throws me off. because im used to hold the button like halfpressed a lot of times on the WASD keys and doing that on a mechanical keyboard just doesnt work. i think its kinda like a campaign that forces people to pay more for less cuz they think its faster than other keyboards but it isnt since you have to fully release the button before pressing it again.
If you like a membrane. Give me that old mech I'ma frankenswitch it.
Yes, what the point of keys that you need to push down 1cm to press? Or how can i tell if i pressed it or not at all half the way down?
