I always thought " Electric Barberella's " guitar playing was a sample of Andy's riff from " Hungry Like the Wolf". or Warren was purposely playing it as a tribute to Andy's sonic riffs from the song. Either way this is great. Warren was an amazing attribute to DD and help Modernize their sound.Andy is equally great.
In a mid 80s issue of Keyboard magazine (I have it in storage somewhere), while being kind, Nick made it very clear that he and Andy went in opposite directions musically. At the time he framed it in a positive way. I think he was spot on and I think it was the tension that resulted in their best music. Substance issues took Andy (and JT) in different directions as well and I think it was THAT that ultimately did the original Fab 5 in. This was substantiated in both Andy and John’s books. Even though they reformed for Astronaut they couldn’t find “it” again - though I enjoyed the live performance. They had a few nice bits with Warren (and I love Warren’s work with The Missing Persons), but generally it was pretty off the mark in my opinion. Aside from about half of Big Thing, half of the Wedding Album, and the song “Serious”, I don’t care for the rest of the Warren era work. (I don’t count Notorious as he was brought in as a hired gun to finish off work started with Andy but largely molded by Nile Rogers)

Andy and Warren always have been and always will be the best guitar players for creating albums and tours along the way. Electric Barbarella I understand that it is very difficult to play. Andy and Dom Brown manage to do the basic, rhythmic and intro parts, but the solo is not the most difficult part, only Warren manages to make the guitar scream like on the album. But of course, Andy and Dom already created solo versions that they managed to play that they found practical for them, the way they thought of the creativity that didn't need the solo to be like Warren, but to create a solo that they could adapt to the music.
Thanks for this interesting audio!! It reveals why it was increasingly difficult to work with Andy by 2005 and at the same time it's an evidence of Warren's great talent because it's really hard to imitate his style even for a big shot like Andy. Guitar parts are beautiful and complex in some albums like the Wedding Album, Medazzaland or Pop Trash but the band has avoided to play them live for the last 20 years (except some known hits) and I think there's a reason for that.
Warren Cuccurullo was maligned when he was part of DD, but this was one of the few hits he generated with them. It shows how unique his talent is as Dom Brown tried to replicate it first, but made the solo his own by playing it completely differently than Warren. Here Andy Taylor, as great as he is, really does not like playing in this style. The second attempt he actually did better than any version Don Brown ever did particularly on the solo at the end which he did fairly well, but that is not saying a heck of a lot. This is the first time I have ever heard Duran Duran trying to play Warren Cuccurallo's music with Andy Taylor, and the professional he is, he does it even if he screams "I hate this fu....ing song!"

Professional? Not sure if I got the point. When a band member plays erratically, provokes stopping and instead of taking responsibility complains the way he did in the Mic (Simon's funky correction must be noted as a "hey, be careful about what you say") then the band has a big problem because the guy doesn't have the right attitude to accomplish and any effort is useless as we listened. Terrible performance! And actually the same year Andy was kicked out, right? I'll look for Dom playing this.
One thing I will say Andy and Warren are incredible as guitarists I like Dom, but thanks to these 2 they made several songs that are already very successful, just gratitude and success, I hope that one day we can see the two together. Everyone has their own way of thinking and acting differently in presentations, sessions or anything else with DD Going back to the video besides Warren and Andy being versatile and different guitar playing skills or styles, Andy manages to play some of Warren's songs replicating his own sound (Come Undone, I Don't Want Your Love, White Lines) . Skin Trade was only once with Andy which is a very rare video in Manchester from 2005. Only in 2 songs (Ordinary World and Electric Barbarella) he can't do any better compared to Warren. Because some of Warren's sounds are difficult to follow to play. Andy on Ordinary World some of the riffs were very good to hear the intention depends but I like Warren's quality better.
Such ballsy playing Andy!! You Rock! Duran's sound just got too synthetic after he left. Only he has the balls to take on Warren's part and tear it up all on his own! Dom is just a wallpaper compared to them both. Probably cos of Nick telling him to just ' blend' in. Come back Andy!!

Andy is all noise,high school garage band. Warren was ambiance, nice but not song after sing (they all sound like Come Undine). Dom is a better fit. Zero attitude than these two.

They had to fight Andy to play it again, which was actually a struggle. When he said he hated music, it only boosted his ego. To this day I still don't understand why they didn't play some Medazzaland songs when Andy and Roger came back, they could play some, it didn't have to be all, since Pop Trash and Liberty that were excluded from cez don't even need to come back. Removing Serious from the liberty album that I love lol😊
I love the 2 former DD guitarists. I was wondering if it was Big Bang Generation or Out of My Mind, Andy would be able to do his version much better Be My Icon I'm not sure but the 2 would fit together perfectly than EB. Most of all I liked this incredible version, but I prefer Warren. Too bad BBG and OOMM were forgotten because DD was also one of the best in Medazzaland

Taylor makes the solo sound like a solo should, at least. The solo Cuccurrullo played on the original release sounds like Neil Young's on "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World"i.e. the same note played repeatedly for eight bars. Taylor is a world class rhythm player but not a classic rock player like the late, great Gary Moore was.
Andy Taylor was a great musician but not a team player .. too much of an ego .. Warren produced brilliant dd material as well .. the wedding album saved Duran’s Durans career … Warren was a key driver of that album and direction .. as good as any of the first three albums by the original band .. for his bluster , Andy’s done very little outside DD except collect the royalties.. it’s his loss and the fans that he is still not playing and touring with them !
The mistakes happen! The main thing that the second take was better, but it sounds like it was badly rehearsed... I understand that imitation of Cuccurullo's parts is not simple thing, but solo could be much better😉👍
As a fan since 1981 I've no opinion on which guitarist has been most creative in DD but Andy's playing here is not great with several mistakes. There's a live version from Moscow 2001 with Warren playing considerably better.
What a KILLER track Electric Barbarella still is. I ADORE it to pieces, I love that Andy played on it live.
