Thanks for you videos they took the guess work out of doing this job.FYI Mini Adventure if your timing chain is ok, you can still remove the head without removing the crank bolt just remove the top upper Torx bolt, that is in the head towards the front of the car for the timing chain cartridge. Remove the intake vanos gear and exhaust gear and the timing chain tensioner . Keep tension on the timing chain as you lift the head rotating it toward the front of the car while feeding it through the head and tie it off. Pretty easy! Thanks also for all your torque settings.

I used a pair of standard pliers on the "opened" setting to remove the fuel rail electrical connectors - and it was not a gimme at that! How you managed to get those off with your bare hands I don't know!!! Thanks! I pretty much followed your video verbatim to tear my mini apart...now if I can just get it back together again.....lol

Hi how do I know that my turbo blown on 08"r56 s and not a piston. I unscrew exhaust sencor on pipe and find lots of oil inside by turbo/exhaust side. Car smoke like hell. Regard Andre

+Mini Adventure. I just want to ask you a questions after you checked your exhaust valves
that were all opened at the end of this video and said that they're probably bent. Did the machine shop fixed all bent exhaust valves? how much extra money did you have to pay?

I went ahead and bought new intake and exhaust valves. About $200 for the valves on eBay. The machine work was $250 for valve job and milling the head.

Great videos. Watched them all several times in preparation to take my head off to replace the gasket. I am only planning on taking the head off. My question is, can I just remove the top guide, the tensioner and both cam sprockets to remove the head or do I have to remove the entire chain, all guides and all sprockets? Thanks.

Tom, I'm not sure, but I don't see why you couldn't. Not sure how many miles are on your timing chain. Also, while you have it apart, you should check the guides to make sure they aren't starting to wear. My upper guide broke and fell down to the crank sprocket and caused the chain to jump a tooth. This caused all of the exhaust valves to bend.

Hi Tom, did you get the head off without removing the crank sprocket and guides ?

Amazing video. I have to ask? Once it was all put back together did the car drive ok?

C Pat. Yes, it drove great! Still is. Going to check that tensioner each year.

    I have a '13 countryman R60 base model.
Would you recommend the chiltons manual you purchased? I've wondered how to do a coolant and transmission flush on these cars.

C Pat Sorry for the delay in responding! my chiltons manual had all the info I needed at about 1/3 the price of the Bentley manual. I would check the transmission and see if it requires fluid change. I've heard mixed reviews on transmission flushing, mostly negative. my ford fusion says no fluid change required.

I'm going to do a timing job on my 2009, do you know what happened when you did your timing that causes it to get out of time...any help would be appreciated

My car jumped time due to a piece of the upper guide falling down and getting in between the chain and crank sprocket. This caused all 8 exhaust valves to hit the top of the pistons and bend. No damage to the pistons though.

Hello, I see the cam lock installed in one video and see it was removed in the next video. What is the reason and why do you lock the cam anyway you are going to take the cylinder head away. May be to loosen the cam sprocket nut to loose! Pls explain. thanks.Rajah

In order to get the head off, the chain and guides have to come out. Also the crank sprocket. There isn't enough room to get the chain off without removing all of the sprockets.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just started to take off the cylinder head, your video is helping a lot. Thx. Why did you machine the cylinder head anyway?

Was your exhaust valves bent ? or was it just carbon build up that did that the valves was sticking out a bit ? Think I have similar problem.

Mine were actuallybent. They kissed the tops of the pistons. Just went ahead and replaced intakes too and a valve job.
