    +Mini Adventure. I just had my R56 diagnosed as no compression and it looked like all exhaust valves are open according to a master tech. I just changed my timing chain and had a crank but no start.

    you missed the whole timing chain procedure just wanted to know if vanas gears go on a certain way

    • @miniadventure8714
      @miniadventure8714  8 років тому

      the vanos gears are not installed any particular way. there is only an intake one on my mini. just make sure the vanos is good by looking at the front. there is a dot that should be lined up. if it is off, you can definitely tell. a chiltons has a good picture of it.

      I also did a video on replacing the timing chain too.

    My head was replaced, turbo replaced, valve cover replaced, timing chain replaced. Water pump replaced, fuel pump replaced, car was overheated, I'm really curious because I didn't hear anything about what happened to your car except you felt like you were losing power or compression. All my stuff was replaced under warranty. We have 2 of these both 2007 s models. We will not own these cars without the best warranties we can get. They are really fun. But holy good grief I've never seen a car so expensive to fix, you're wealth of knowledge is amazing to see. What is your real opinion on these cars? I say maintain them with regular oil changes not manufacturers recommend ones.

      Hi Frank! We were just driving one day and the car quit running and wouldn't start. Thought it was the timing chain, and that was the root cause, but a piece of the upper chain guide broke. It fell down into the chain and got into the crank gear and caused it to jump time. Because it is an interference engine, this caused the bent exhaust valves.

    It would be interesting if you were willing to open (destroy) your OEM vacuum pump, to find out how close it was to fail. Great video.

    Before you put the head back on for installation what position do you want the cylinders at? I just happened to do a timing chain job but forgot to check the position which caused all of the valves to bend. Dont want to mess it up agian.

      Daven Sharma. There is a flywheel locking tool that comes with the timing kit. It locks the flywheel in the proper position. I did a video on the timing chain that shows how to do it.

    Hello there, hey do you mean by saying" remove the bolts and taking it out of service position" if you can explain. thank you

    • @miniadventure8714
      @miniadventure8714  3 роки тому

      The "service position" is where you can slide the front bumper assembly forward to give more access to the front of the engine. When you slide it forward, you take one of the bolts on each side and put them in holes in the frame to keep the bumper from accidentally falling off. You would remove those bolts and slide it back to the normal position and bolt it back in place.

    Well do you skip the part in the cylinder head rocket spring and vanos installation ( Intake camshaft side ) Why just tell us the true please

      @miniadventure8714  7 років тому +1

      Carlos Morgan, not exactly sure what you are asking. My Chiltons manual just said make sure the arrows are lined up on the VANOS mechanism, which means it is in "rest" position. If not, I'm not sure how to fix that. I didn't have that problem.

    Why you didn’t show the car running...?

    • @miniadventure8714

      when I made the video, I was hoping it was just the timing chain. after I finished, I tried starting it and discovered the exhaust valves were bent and had to take it all apart again.

    Do you have any idea how many labor hours was involved in doing this job? I will be doing a Head gasket replacement in the near future. Thank You!! Amazing video set. I'm heading over to your timing chain video set next!

      tomduncan1970. Didn't really keep track of how long it took. Took my time. Had the luxury of an extra vehicle. Worst part was having to order parts and wait 1 to 2 weeks for them to come in. Also had to wait 4 weeks for the head to be reworked.

    I'm really hoping after all the work that was done on these, by previous owners has changed the outcome of the past. Since we've had ours they have been flat out runners. Also my last question for now is what do u think of oil catch cans? And do you have an opinion on why the warranty companies void the warranty if you're caught having them on the car. Pretty easy to put back to stock. But it seems one of the only defense against this carbon build up. Thanks buddy

    • @miniadventure8714
      @miniadventure8714  8 років тому +1

      I hope to put a catch can on soon. The machine shop that worked on the head said there was a lot of carbon buildup in the intake ports. When I put one on, I'll definitely do a video on it.

      +Mini Adventure Having a video of it starting up and running would have been icing on the cake after all you went through.
      I did have a question. When you torqued and did the final degrees for the crank and cam bolts was the timing tools the only thing holding everything as you tightened the bolts? Thanks and your videos where very helpful.

    • @miniadventure8714
      @miniadventure8714  8 років тому +1

      +Jeremiah Thomas - Yes, it was. the crank holding tool in the flywheel and the camshaft holding device on the cams.

    Mini Adventure,
    Thanks for the great videos! My wife's Mini (2008 Clubman S) has several misfire codes and runs very rough. Compression on cylinder #1 is 35 psi, the reset are at 155 psi. I'm thinking stuck valve, I will know after the bleed down test. Where did you find the best place to purchase your valves, gasket kits, tools etc.
    Thanks again

      Bruce Hutchins. I got all my stuff on eBay. There is a seller who has the whole timing chain set for $200, genuine Mini. I also got the valves on there too.

    You didn't need to remove the whole intake manifold.

    • @miniadventure8714
      @miniadventure8714  3 роки тому +1

      I had to remove the intake manifold because I had to take the head to a machine shop and have the valves replaced because they got bent when the timing chain jumped time.

      @@miniadventure8714 Hello, your videos are excellent. I just disconnected the intake manifold and pushed it back. Then I took off the head.Replaced all valves and found the turbo diverter valve was cracked to causing oil leak. Thanks for the videos brother your the man!
