Mini Adventure, I just did my head and timing chain work to my 07' MIni Cooper S. Yeah did it myself.... Your video is very very helpful. If someone need head work to their Mini this guy (Mini Adventure) is your guy. Thumbs UP to Mini Adventure and thank you for all your videos.
I really appreciate the work you've done on your wife's car and the work you've done for us with these videos. I do like the way you explain what you are doing while you are doing it. I'm working on a 2008 R56 Mini Cooper S. I am going through the same experience you had. I replaced the timing chain cassette because of the torn out chain guide. Then to find out I have a bent valve. My question is, did you replace or clean the fuel injectors?
Great video. Is it safe to say I locked the crank locking pin before removing the head as i had to remove the head for a cracked valve. Will I be all good to place the head back on and set the timing marks on the cams and it should be timed correctly? I’m doing this for the first time and a bit worried about putting this back together 😂
As long as you lock the flywheel and use the alignment tool on the camshafts, you should be ok. For some reason, Peugeot thought it would be a good idea NOT to use keyways on the crank or cam sprockets.
@@miniadventure8714 okay thank you for the quick reply. First time doing this YouTubing everything 😂. The crank pin is still locked in and all pistons are level just wasn’t a 100% sure if I could just put the head back on and turn the cams until the writing etc is facing up. Or not 😂 overthinking I’m doing something wrong. Great videos keep it up.
I think my timing was slightly off I bought 2008 cooper s 50k miles £450 misfire turns out was burnt valve set all the locking tools up removed everything and the head. Just keep thinking in my head my head am I okay to just put the head back on and line up the writing and the locking tool and that it won’t damage anything after wards 😂 all new to me but enjoy the challenge just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly
@@miniadventure8714 got a company sorting the head out they are supplying new gasket and bolts etc. hope it turns out good got a few friends doubting me😳😂
I really appreciate you taking the time to compiled these detail videos of fixing a common issues on these vehicles... I wanted to ask you from where did you order all the parts that you are replaced? Timing chain kit, valves, cyl head gasket & bolts, etc...
I got all of the stuff on eBay. Make sure the timing chain kit you get has all of the bolts (crank and both cams) and the bolts for the guides. Also the tensioner too. I found a kit with everything for US$200. A head gasket kit should have all gaskets and o-rings for the exhaust and intake manifolds, thermostat housing. Also need the Hi pressure fuel line must be replaced.
First you said 132 inch lbs for the two bolts in the timing chain area and then when you re-capped the torques before 90 deg. you said you said they were 168 inch lbs? You might want to correct this FYI.
Hi, I have a Peugeot 207 GTI and I've followed your videos to replace the timing chain assembly. My next question is: do you know if the prince engine is an INTERFERENCE or NON-INTERFERENCE engine? Scenario: My car died while driving and I was attempting to start the car and checking fuses and the fuel system etc. before I wanted to go further and remove the valve cover. The chain was off and the exhaust cam bolt had snapped! So I need to know, with my attempts to start the car, have the pistons bent the valves?
Hi Tom. Yes this is an interference engine. I ended up bending all 8 of the exhaust valves. Mine was running fine then it just died all of a sudden. Tried cranking it and i could tell there was no compression. None of my bolts snapped. My upper guide broke and fell down the front of the engine, got into the crank sprocket and caused the chain to jump a tooth on the sprocket. That was all it took to bend the valves.
Thank you for confirming. I have definitely done the same to mine then. I have also discovered the source of my issue (same as yours, was driving and it just died). The vacuum pump vane is bent and seized which is why the exhaust cam bolt had snapped. The brake pedal was hard in the weeks leading up to this and in reverse it was always hard! Very strange but that was the symptom. Thanks again for confirming and for the video series, it's been a great help.
I have a CooperS R56 with N14 with fuel pressure code I changed HPFP, In tank fuel pump and fliter the fuel line cleaned the injectors and I get 5 bars for in tank and 7bar from HPFP but still have the code and bad start can you please help
Have you checked the pressure through the OBD system? I have a Bluetooth OBD adapter and the Torque Pro app. It lets you make a custom gauge to see what pressure the computer sees. You can set it up to do kPa or Psi I think. I know it is very high pressure. That's how I monitored mine.
Hello my name is carlos I have a mini cooper s clubman 2008 have a loss of power a code P3091 a boot unstable cold and think that it is because valves are full carbon exelente your video I am not mechanical am fond of suggestions
The machine shop will check it for warpage and cracks. All of my exhaust valves were bent. I bought all new intake and exhaust valves. The machine shop charged $275 for inspection, cleaning, valve job and milling the head flat.
+giorgos gen 73,860 miles. It was using a little oil, more than I'm used to in my non-turbo vehicles. maybe 1 quart a month, depending on how hard you drive it.
Just replaced the head on my 2010 cooper S with the help of this video. This was really helpful! Thank you for producing this!

I was hooked until he said part 2! lol 😂
Might be overkill but if you get ARP head studs you can reuse them (as long as there is no obvious marring)

Danny White I cleaned them. I think I went over that as well as installing new o-rings on the injector.
Edit: nevermind, I see my mistake. Makes a lot more sense now.

Question, I saw your previous video and you displayed how the valves were stuck open on the exhaust side. What was causing that?
The timing chain jumped time due to the broken plastic guides.
Hi! Where did you get that torque wrench guage? And what is it exactly called? Thanks for the videos!!
I got it on amazon. it is made by ac-delco. I got both 3/8 and 1/2.
Got it. Thanks again.

Hi, how do you know if the head is still good and how much did the machine shop charge to refurb the head? thx.

Great videos, thanx for posting! Btw how did you manage to have the cylinder head so clean, mine after 100.000km looks like sh#t? :-)
this was after I had it machined. the machine shop cleaned the head, replaced all of the valves, and milled the head a few thousandths.
What exactly do you mean when you say machined and after how many km or miles, also did you have some specific reason for machining it?
+giorgos gen My Mini had the timing chain jump time, causing all 8 exhaust valves to get bent. So, off to the machine shop it went!
At how many miles did that happen and was it consuming any oil at that time?
+giorgos gen 73,860 miles. It was using a little oil, more than I'm used to in my non-turbo vehicles. maybe 1 quart a month, depending on how hard you drive it.
