My Solo & Remote Mountain Hiking Adventure!

- In this video, I take you on an adventure to remote mountains in the Highlands of Scotland for a wild camping experience. Join me as I embark on an epic solo hiking journey, combining two isolated mountains with a wild camp near the summit of Bac an Eich. On day two, I trek to the seriously remote peak of An Sidhean, deep in the wilderness around Loch Monar. 24 hours of pure solitude, I did not meet one person at all.
Along the way, I'll share with you the stunning scenery, the challenges, and the mistakes made, which didn't detract from the thrill of the trip. (NB, the River Meig would be impossible to cross in spate).

Belter McBelt Face. Great video, Robin. 👏👏👏
Cheers Martin. 😎 👍🏼
Robin you missed a wee opportunity for a proclaimers snippet @ 9:30 mark.
I'm on my way from misery to happiness today 🎶
😂
Damn, I hate a missed opportunity to sneak in a song. 😁
Cracking video in an amazing part of Scotland. Certainly a great way to combine the two Corbetts with a wildcamp.
Cheers Jon, yeah I really didn't fancy doing these two as separate outings so it made sense.
Well done on the 180! A really remote area and it looked fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Graham. 😎 🏕
Great adventure and very beautiful landscapes .. thanks for the video ☺🙏
Thank you. 😊 👍🏼
A great hike and lovely video. Thank you for sharing. Take care 👍
Cheers NHT. 😎 👍🏼
Wonderful video as always. You certainly got lucky with the weather this time out mate. Thanks for sharing as always, really enjoyed watching that. Cheers Dave
Cheers Dave, it definitely worked out taking last Thursday/Friday off for this trip, as the weekend wasn't great.
Congratulations on your 180th Corbett Robin great vid.👍
Cheers Phil, getting there mate. 😁
Good stuff Robin, nothing worse than that energy sapped feeling, been there. What a cracking night and morning..looked mint . Camp spot looked perfect too .. cheers Stevie
Cheers Stevie, it's not good mate and I scran all the time. Should have ate more on the road up. Lesson learned. Guid pitch looking north. 👌🏼
Lovely video, just playing catch up and this popped up. Cracking pitch and a sunset to dream of. Every time I see the Scarp the more I want 😂😂. Cheers Robin, Atb mate, Dave.
180 Corbetts, epic mate 👍
Cheers Dave, haha. I reckon the Scarp is right up your street mate. 😁 182 now. 😂
Great video Robin, enjoyed the watch! Cheers Duncan
Cheers Duncan. 😎 👍🏼
A wonderful watch Robin. Such beautiful remote country and some stunning views - love the inversions. Good that you got that tea in at the summit to give you a bit of replenishment. Top vid and….
180!!!!
Cheers Dave. 🎯
I was really toiling at one stage but the conditions made up for not getting to see the Northern lights. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace 👍👍

Fantastic tour Robin! Stunning wild camp in a remote area - felt with you when you mentioned your tires legs 🙌😎
Cheers Stripey, lesson learned with the nutrition, I won't do that again. 😄
@@WalkWithWallace hopefully you are better than me - early starts and or long drives usually get me 🙈
@@StripeyHatGuy definitely not prepared for the long drive. 😕 Wasn't that hungry when I met Murchie.
4:15 and yes. Been there with food issues (notably Am Faochagach for a day hike where I had to abandon as I'd run out of food & good water - lesson learned)
Aw those river crossings twice over to do again. 👀💦
@@WalkWithWallace haven't been back yet but have more getoutabilty this year, so possibly.
Fantastic.
Thanks Fraser. 😎 👍🏼
Cracking day Robin. Windy though.
You can eat for two.I'm the opposite. I tend to just snack and have a big tea. Eating too much takes my edge off. Then again I have a bit more of camel back up round the waist😅
Haha, you're right I scran all the time and no mackerel wraps without the Kevster. 😁
beautiful
Thank you Neeman. 🤠
Great video as always .. god how many times have done that head in the clouds and missed my turn of 😂
Ha, yes but usually when I'm in company. 😂 This was a blessing in disguise given I was running on empty.
Great wee vid man... Well done.. 🤘
Cheers mate. 😎 👍🏼
Superb video Robin 😍👏🏻👌🏻..Amazing views and a cracking spot😁..I love that cheesy mug shot by the way 😁👌🏻..Great catching up with you at Dalwhinnie😁..Class Vlog as usual mate 😁

Cheers Robert. 😁

Good catching up mate. 👍🏼
@@WalkWithWallace 😁👍
Brilliant mate 😊 another 2 done.. lovely sky too
Cheers mate. 😎 👍🏼
The importance of "NOT Bonking Outdoors" 😜 cannot be underestimated, such an important subject too. Glad you had a successful trip, was that a double top ? for the 180 ? ATB mate WD. 👍
Haha cheers mate and certainly was. 🎯 🐮
Enjoyed as ever 😀. Thank you 👍
Thanks mate, appreciate it. 😁 👍🏼
Wish I'd done these hills this way. They're pretty much local for me but I didn't realise how doable they were as a combo until I was already on An Sithean and due back out of Glen Strathfarrar before they locked the gate.
My mate Hendo gave me the idea to combine the two. I really didn't fancy the Strathfarrer approach for that reason. I suppose you could have battered down the Glen on a bike.
Great weather Robin with fantastic views. Climbed Bach an Eich this time last year unfortunately nae views. Went in from Inverchaoran in Stathconon there and back in just under 7 hours. An Sithean from Glen Strathfarrer with overnight camp back in 2021. Looks like a long walk between the 2 well done onwards and upwards only 42 to go !!
Did you cycle down, so you didn't have to faff about with the gate times? The walk between the two Corbetts wasn't too bad once you dropped off Bac an Eich and up it was a nice stroll.
@@WalkWithWallace Taken a car up Glen Strathfarrer a couple of times but cycle allowed me to camp overnight. Great cycle btw. Camped north side of Loch Monar just where stalkers path goes up Glen Dubh. Climbed An Sithean next morning then cycled back to Struy and long drive home. 36 hour trip door to door!!
Breathtaking morning to wake up to Robin! Certainly wild and remote, well done for scoring 180!🤣😉👏👏
Cheers Tony. 🎯 🐮 😁
Stunning 🤩 I love that corner of Scotland 🏴🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏕️
Cracking isn't it. 👌🏼
Stunning views, beautiful
Thank you Margaret.
Nice one Robin, thinking about not feulling up enough, had a simiilar experience on the Ptarmagin Ridge, I was not moving well at all. Was fine after I had something to eat and carried on without any further issues
It usually just hits me like a train and the wind is out of my sails. 😂
@@WalkWithWallace - was also thinking about the going up the wrong hill or taking the wrong path. Did that in the Braemar hills - the landscape was not matching the map - I realised that I had gone up the second hill first. It as always a learning process. Also remember doing a navigation course some years ago and and finding myself 'lost', the course leader said, 'no, temporarily misplaced' You are lost if you believe you are on a hill and standing in the middle of the ocean'.
Wow Robin, that weather!
Thanks for sharing your adventure.
All the best
George
Thanks George. 😎 👍🏼
Congrats on the 180 Robin, though maybe it's just as well Darts isn't your thing, eh? Amazing campsite all the same - I just love all those layers of hills with the clouds swirling about between them. I take the aurora was a no-show - or did you sleep right through? No matter, you certainly needed it if you did.
Cheers Paul, you're right I was never really into darts. 😁
No Aurura unfortunately, got up at 10pm, 11pm, 12am and 1am. Nothing. 😔 I'll see it properly one day
Well saved Robin. Congrats on the 180, great vid.
Cheers G. 😁 👍🏼
Nice wee trip. Looked proper remote which is always good.
Cheers Leon. The second Corbett is definitely proper remote. Tucked in behind Maoile Lunnaidh.
Fantastic and amazing views 😍 congrats for the 180,Robin! It's a great 👍🏻
Thank you. I'm getting there. 🎯
Fantastic and interesting upload bud, this whole place simply great! You narrated this brilliantly as well!
Thank you. 😎 👍🏼
Great vid Robin and well done on your 180th Corbett! 👏👏
Cheers Andrew. 🎯 😁
Great video Robin keep up the great work pal. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
Cheers mucker. 🏴 🏕 👌🏼

I'm not surprised you were ungri.. practically running... By gum you boys don't half march on... I was up in Skye last neet for the Aurora.. 😊.. Thanks for sharing Robin.
Cheers buddy. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the Skye Trail? Got that on my sights too.
@@WalkWithWallace had to bail after first night. Just back this aft Robin. Foot injury has returned.. I thought it was on the mend but it wasn't having it. Loaded up with painkillers but still got no sleep due to pain. Struggling at the moment.. it's an age thing.. I'll be back... Cheers pal.👊
@@BoredManOutdoors sorry to hear that chief, speedy recovery Jim.
Great video. I had near exact same conditions there when I went for the corbetts. Sunny and windy!
Cheers Lui. Did you get them done this year too? Seems to be the theme at the moment. Any decent weather is laced with a chilly wind.
@@WalkWithWallace no it was same time of year but 4 years ago. Unique part of the country. Hope it heats up soon and this wind eases!
@@lui5422 tell me about it.
Great conditions. This part of Scotland is stunning but it rained almost the entire time I was there. Loved the cloud inversion.
Cheers mate. Rain is better known as atmospheric. 😜
Great stuff Robin, cracking area! I've only got a few weeks till I'm back up for two weeks wondering the hills! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Cheers Grey, what's the plan for Scotland mate?
@@WalkWithWallace Going to base myself in Kintail and do the 5 sisters and Forcan Ridge. Then up to Assynt for a few days Ben More, Sulvain and Stac Pollaidh and area. Then back down to the Buachaille Etive Mòr. Never been up there, weather has always been bad! Got two weeks so I should think that will fill it!😅
You where fast eating your dinner , unlike Stripey hat guy who takes his time to eat his pasta bolognaise 😋
Thanks for Sharing the hike , now I'm going to see Stripey's video that posted right after you , and guess what he will have for dinner ...
Haha, I was proper starving. 😳 Just seen Stripey's new video pop up, stayed in the same bothy as Kev a few years ago.
Brilliant weather and video nice views cheers I just comeback from highlands sun burnt what an idiot I am we camped north of Beinn Dearg Torridon and bagged all the Corbetts around us thanks for sharing looked a great hill to visit
Cheers Andrew. I'm looking forward to getting into those Corbetts myself. Did you get all 5 done?
@@WalkWithWallace we walked in from loch Maree from the reds table and climbed just Beinn an eoin beinn dearg via the castle an airy scramble and on last day did Baosbheinn we camped at a lochan at the bottom of the ridge leading up to baosbheinn in the heart of the area all were great we then walked back out from good path from bothy next to loch na h-oidhiche fantastic views from all
Should read red stable
@@andrewkingdom brilliant mate, as you may remember Kev and I did Beinn Dearg a couple of years ago. But thinking I'll spilt the other 4 into 2 trips. I'll check the map to see where you camped.
I will put a bit of my trip on on you tube so my Korean friends can see Scotland well done on the 180
180.👌😎 Cracking weather bud. Stunning weather like. I was wondering what other Corbett you were on... Walk highlands says any route involving Bac an Eich would make an epic route. Better pitches on An Sidhean?
Said weather twice. Meant conditions. 😁
Cheers bud, I seen that on WH. I actually thought it wasn't too bad to combine the two. Once you got the height for the second one it was easy going. Aye, probably was more options on An Sithean. Hendo camped there a few weeks ago.
As always, inspirational to watch. Thankyou.
I think you use a garmin in-reach. If so, would you advise about where to buy and most importantly the subscription you have chosen?
Any other advice is welcome about it would be welcome :)
😊😊😊
Thanks Imran. I'm using the Zoleo equivalent device at the moment and getting on really well with that. I bought my Garmin inReach Mini from Ordnance Survey online shop and went with the basic safety plan which is £15pm.
Thanks, buddy.
If you get a mo, could you share your thinking on both. The garmin is quite an investment and there's the monthly cost....but offers 2 way communication...very useful 👍
@@trytheoutdoors there's a lot of information to digest mate, but to summerise; the Zoleo is a little heavier but cheaper to buy than the Garmin inReach Messenger. Garmin plans are slightly cheaper but more restrictive imho. The Zoleo app is more user friendly. They both ultimately do the same job. My advice would be to compare the plans side by side, and pick the one that suits your budget and or needs.
Superbos! 😂
😎 👍🏼
Ooh. My local area .... What day did you do this? I could have joined you . I've been down that same area pre lockdown , but stayed low - I had the older dog (sadly. Now deceased ) and had to stay low while he was with me .
Last Thursday I headed up Andy. Impromptu two days booked off work when I seen the forecast for the weekend was a bit poor.
@@WalkWithWallace Aah. I was in largs on an actual proper camp site (shocking I know ) . Picking a car up in Kilmarnock on Friday .
@@andyventures6574 that's a long drive home. Hope the car is decent. 👌🏼

💯 Dougie. Lesson learned there. Not like me either.
