Fair point if you include the engineering part. I suppose drifting takes quite a bit of skill to do well. But just the driving fast part doesn't take too much talent, does it? I 5hink the reason you see repeat winners in Nascar is the money for the engineering part and the other team members. Give the the guy in the last pole position the funds and team Dale Earnhardt had and you would see a placer??
Men are not known for laziness. Men keep the world running, work the most, and on their time off they have sports etc work on their cars to get them to be able to peel out.
I just turned 29 the other day (Oct 13) and just last month moved from NY to South Korea in a "need to do something radically different because my life feel so stagnant and I have no ties to anyone or anything really" and now I suffer so much anxiety getting used to my job and the language barrier (beginner Korean). Also just finding people to bond with and not succumbing to the loneliness. And funny thing? I was such a homebody in NY and never cared to go out anywhere most of the time. But here I feel like every fiber of me is telling me to go out and experience things and it is a weird and disconcerting feeling and I get anxious for not doing so - , I could have stayed home in NY if I wanted to saty inside and not get out there,. I'm comparing myself to other expats who seem to have blended so seamlessly into their surroundings and work life and question my decision and myself as a person. TLDR; your videos always seem to resonate with me and my personal dilemmas/feelings. THANK YOU for making me feel like I'm not alone.
Bill I get your point, I personally don't care for vroom vroom movies with giant explosions. But taste is about the most useless argument to have. Why people like stuff can be for many different and complicated reasons. Could be intelligence, could be life experience, I would think it could be genetics as well. There's no objective law of physics that is going to settle the question of what taste is better. It's like arguing that vanilla is better than chocolate. But, the your bit was funny.....in my opinion :)
That's the effect of competitiveness, not driving.. jumping is easy, jumping close to 30 feet isn't and shouldn't be conflated with the larger point, which is that movies dumb down people, make them feel happy about knowing trivial crap
This is the same reason that was used by everyone who defended gun-violence. They blamed violence in movies and video-games, but not the lack of security and vigilance.
To be honest, I drive fast in a muscle car for me. I don't really care what non-car enthusiasts think as long as I'm not breaking any laws or endangering them. Shifting gears to me is fun, but I understand how it's mundane to others.
Bill, news flash: driving is easy. Driving fast, whilst simultaneously keeping your passengers safe and evading incarceration, is not. Try racing a go-kart sometime, I dare you not to get whiplash.
bill be fair....its like taking what you do and saying anyone can make an internet video. making a video is not that hard. making a video is so easy...etc etc
Bill, you can’t make a movie about driving when the person behind the wheel will stop at every Target and Bed Bath And Beyond on the way to the prize……or can you?
Sophia Bogard That’s not the argument. The argument is why Hollywood seems to portray men as the type who do it. Men don’t have control over what movies Hollywood produces. Hollywood knows what people want though. That’s why men love to watch movies with cars and woman like to watch romcoms. You don’t hear many men complaining why they always portray woman as the compassionate, caring, and nurturing type, even though it’s BS to assume that men can’t be compassionate, caring, and nurturing. Trust me, as a male who works in a predominately “woman” type job (meaning that the job has historically been a woman’s job) I know that sexism can go both ways. The point is, we don’t make the movies, we just find it entertaining. So don’t bash men for something they are not even producing. It would seem very unfair for a small minority of men who control Hollywood are to represent all men.
The first time I ever hit 170 mph in real life I was moving down a straight line and everyhting not directly infront of me became a blur. I got decent at handling it but being near a another car at that speed would a little out of my comfort zone yet.
Gobsnachaz if you mean the car movies thing, then I would agree except I think the pettiest one was his rant against the marvel franchise. “Read a book”, he said. The success of the MCU hurts no one, and makes a lot of people happy, but because he thought adults shouldn’t be watching superheroes he got his rant on. Other than that, I like him.
Gotta say i do agree, except when he mentioned Drive. Drive was pretty much the opposite of that, it actually has very little driving in it. still an amazing movie.
"If Harvey Weinstein had made even a minimal effort to join Jenny Craig, shaved, or generally not looked like a Russian cab driver. . ." Rob Reiner sitting next to Bill thinking "oh shit wait, that describes me too.. ."
"No one wants to do it in room where there is a coffee machine" Is he referring to hotel rooms? Because that makes no sense. People use hotels for only two things. Sleeping and fucking. Where else would people do it in?
Out of the car category (within the mentioned titles)...? - Fast and the furious franchise had both Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster as leading roles, even appearing heroic in some scenes. Hell, Jordana ends up looking more noble than Vin various times throughout the series. - Gone in 60 Seconds, co-led by Angelina Jolie. - Drive co-led by Carey Mulligan. - Drive Angry co-led by Amber Heard - Wheelman co-led by Caitlin Carmichael. My point is that Bill’s point is moot when you break it all down. Sometimes the women is the hero (Laura Croft, Kill Bill, Wonder Women), and sometimes the man is the hero (Batman, Superman, Captain America). Why does everything have to be portrayed every which way? Why can’t people just enjoy the differences in film, and stop trying to change the narrative.
When men start caring about themselves first And stop caring about what anyone especially unhappy women think.... then the silly toxic stereotypes will disappear
vinnie97 I mean I enjoy his show because he seems more tolerable than other hosts and sometimes we need a different perspective, if we don’t we’re just in a bubble like an sjw
I feel like Bill haven't seen or ares to see ANY of these movies. Some of his writers just saw a pattern in the movie titles - and that's it. It's like commenting on the movies with the word "Dead" in them as zombie films.
At the point he made this segment, I really don't think he had seen the movie Drive!!! It's not about him being good a driving, it's about his personal growth and sacrifices.... Him driving a car is secondary!!!
Write it Bill! "How to Behave with a Woman Like You're Not an Asshole". I would buy copies and donate some of them to public libraries, some to parents of teenage boys.
"You know who you never see doing that? A woman" Bullshit, most of the time I'm run off the road by another driver, it's a woman. Not being sexist, just telling it like it is.
You could say almost the same things about mafia movies, western movies, superhero movies. That's how hollywood works, if you don't like it, have fun with the next Sundance film festival. Literally.
Fast and furious actually has decent camerawork/ editing, I’d compare it to the Bourne style when it’s actually done well. But yeah really just that style not much else. I think that one in particular has good editing compared to the others.
I'm guessing it is meant to, for views. He's criticizing movies about driving, yet he is on a TALK show every week. Just looks like old Bill is projecting again.
While watching the video, I was thinking that he's wrong about Baby Driver. It's a great movie. And then I read the comments. Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that
You know baby driver is one of the most acclaimed movies of yhe year right? Bill Maher even said that in his video? Of course youre not the only one who thought it was a great movie
Baby Driver is about a getaway driver who hates his life among "tough guy" mobsters and wants to get out of it for the woman he loves. Leave it to "film expert" Bill Maher to connect this movie's message to Harvey Weinstein and rape. This movie has the EXACT OPPOSITE message. It makes fun of toxic masculinity and says it will lead you to death or to jail. Sorry but if you're not even intelligent enough to understand a movie as simple as this, just don't talk about it. However I won't deny that this Spacey joke was hilarious.
I like Bill, but he's definitely showing his elitism here. He doesn't need to actually see a movie like us stupid commoners do to get it. He knows everything he needs to from the title, somehow.
Point Break and Road House are two of the stupidest movies I ever saw The staging and choreography in Baby Driver is phenomenal, Jamie Foxx is incredibly menacing in that role. So yeah you're entitled to your opinion.... but you're wrong
"Driving is not that hard". Having seen other people drive, I disagree.

I think Bill's talking about whether it's exciting enough to push forward a movie plot for 90 minutes.

I love how you say whatever you think, you are always funny. Thanks for the laughs.😁
Clearly, bill didnt watched baby driver...or drive ... Or knows girls that drive ....usually good rants...this one was just a lazy one from him and his writers .
Good one Bill, especially closing with no romance in a room with the coffee machine.
As someone who works in a performance auto shop, Bill is so wrong about this.
As an Hollywood elitist Bill also wouldn't know the complexities, the work, and the passion that goes in a modifying and maintaining a car. And BTW there are quite a few women who are just as interested in cars as men. Get your head out your ass.
He is talking about the male lazy that only by getting a car Hollywood makes you a badass just for driving a car and it creates a caveman mentality if not check the post with most likes is either girls on their way to only fans
I'm writing that book! I love you Bill!
Actually Baby Driver and Drive are awesome, the rest of the movies Bill mentioned are shit though
And The Driver by Walter Hill
The Driver is a cool movie. Confusing plot wise, but a sweet film.
"Drive Angry" is awesome
Their all the same dipshits
Sadly, the second half of Bill's monologue was solid truth
I admit he was right there. Why harass women? Just buy them like he does.
Impeccable delivery at 1:00 🙌
The fact that most of the comments are about defending the intricacies of driving and not about the topic of toxic lazy masculinity is appalling.
Men are not known for laziness. Men keep the world running, work the most, and on their time off they have sports etc work on their cars to get them to be able to peel out.
@@GaryHighFruit bro did you even watch the video ?
@@JT-xj1pg 2/3 of it. Why? Did I contradict something?
Bill Maher's version of A Clockwork Orange would be him strapped to a chair watching fast and furious 1 to 8.
Love you Bill
Brave move 👍
So are you still in Korea and did things get better for you there? I need to know how it played out.
Bill's the kind of person who watches formula 1 and says "That takes no skill, even I could do that".
That's the effect of competitiveness, not driving.. jumping is easy, jumping close to 30 feet isn't and shouldn't be conflated with the larger point, which is that movies dumb down people, make them feel happy about knowing trivial crap
@@st3ppenwolf so,if i drive an f-1 car all by myself, with no other f-1 car besides me,it is easy?

I love bill and some of the movies are terrible.. But driving fast on track is tough and racecar drivers are elite athletes
bill be fair....its like taking what you do and saying anyone can make an internet video. making a video is not that hard. making a video is so easy...etc etc
Kevin Spacey was actually the "Baby Driver". Who knew???
Bill, you should have left Transporter out... JS actually uses martials arts to show he IS a badass outside the car! But it is still a good point! ^_^
No woman drive fast bill ??
You need to get out more !!!
😂😂
A bicyclist has way more finesse than any dude in any friggin car.
Bill, you can’t make a movie about driving when the person behind the wheel will stop at every Target and Bed Bath And Beyond on the way to the prize……or can you?
"Drivings so easy" can Bill pull a perfect handbrake upturn and drift every corner?
The argument is only men seem to be able to do it.
Because it's not men that are the majority going to see these movies.
It's women!
Driving is one thing, driving as fast as you're in Need for Speed without hitting anything is a talent.
The first time I ever hit 170 mph in real life I was moving down a straight line and everyhting not directly infront of me became a blur. I got decent at handling it but being near a another car at that speed would a little out of my comfort zone yet.
No problem that can’t be solved by driving a car really fast ✌️
This might be the pettiest thing Bill has ever complained about.
"If Harvey Weinstein had made even a minimal effort to join Jenny Craig, shaved, or generally not looked like a Russian cab driver. . ." Rob Reiner sitting next to Bill thinking "oh shit wait, that describes me too.. ."
Nah, Weinstein was in a class of ugly--inside and outside--all by himself.
Driving is easy, driving well is hard 😂
"No one wants to do it in room where there is a coffee machine"
Is he referring to hotel rooms? Because that makes no sense. People use hotels for only two things. Sleeping and fucking. Where else would people do it in?
He means in the work place
Out of the car category (within the mentioned titles)...?
- Fast and the furious franchise had both Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster as leading roles, even appearing heroic in some scenes. Hell, Jordana ends up looking more noble than Vin various times throughout the series.
- Gone in 60 Seconds, co-led by Angelina Jolie.
- Drive co-led by Carey Mulligan.
- Drive Angry co-led by Amber Heard
- Wheelman co-led by Caitlin Carmichael.
When men start caring about themselves first
And stop caring about what anyone especially unhappy women think.... then the silly toxic stereotypes will disappear
100% right on Baby Driver. I have no idea why that movie was so beloved.
Because of the editing. It had great editing.
I feel like Bill didn't actually see Baby Driver because that's not the plot of baby driver
Billy talks through his ass a lot. Whoever pays HBO for his drivel should think twice.
vinnie97 I mean I enjoy his show because he seems more tolerable than other hosts and sometimes we need a different perspective, if we don’t we’re just in a bubble like an sjw
Caleb Boatman
I had the same thought. He watched a promo or something
I feel like Bill haven't seen or ares to see ANY of these movies. Some of his writers just saw a pattern in the movie titles - and that's it. It's like commenting on the movies with the word "Dead" in them as zombie films.
lmao bill, you da man. You are one of the few celebs I would actually care to meet in real life..... (basically just the smart ones)
That’s his problem. He thinks he’s smarter than everyone else. I wonder how he gets women now that he is no longer being given Hefner’s hand-me-downs?

Him driving a car is secondary!!!
Write it Bill! "How to Behave with a Woman Like You're Not an Asshole". I would buy copies and donate some of them to public libraries, some to parents of teenage boys.
"You know who you never see doing that? A woman"
Bullshit, most of the time I'm run off the road by another driver, it's a woman. Not being sexist, just telling it like it is.
Probably because you were trying to cut her off because you think you were entitled to the road over someone else.

1. You make a valid point
2. FU for shitting on Baby Driver
That book needs to made. We can all use a refresher on how to attract a women respectively.
Quit being lazy. Where the real players at?!?
The Kevin Spacey joke was worth the entire segment.
Baby Driver and Drive are so stylistically different from that other schlock.
Solid use of schlock
Agreed, the other movies are not nearly as good and Baby Driver is incredible
Are they different though
Are they
Fast and furious actually has decent camerawork/ editing, I’d compare it to the Bourne style when it’s actually done well. But yeah really just that style not much else. I think that one in particular has good editing compared to the others.
Im a car guy , & these movies do the opposite for me . The unrealistic driving makes it feel patronizing.
This is gonna trigger a lot of people....
Lmao gold. These precious pricks that have never tried introspection love bill until he turns on them lmfaoo. Bill’s spot on.
Laura...and yes, trigger it did.
Well.. I can kinda see why this could be perceived as manipulative
Imagine if he said this about women
I'm guessing it is meant to, for views. He's criticizing movies about driving, yet he is on a TALK show every week. Just looks like old Bill is projecting again.
My mom drives like mad max
While watching the video, I was thinking that he's wrong about Baby Driver. It's a great movie. And then I read the comments. Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that
Mukul Pareek I think the whole rant was purely for the Kevin Spacey joke. I don’t think anyone dislikes Baby Driver that much
Dave Barry I figured. But people don't generally expect Bill to make such roundabout speeches just for a joke.
You know baby driver is one of the most acclaimed movies of yhe year right? Bill Maher even said that in his video? Of course youre not the only one who thought it was a great movie
When you'll grow-up - you'll see ;).
Claims there are no women driver movies, ignores Speed and dismisses the Fast and Furious franchise.
This was really good
It used to be horses
I think I'm falling in love with Bill Maher. A funny guy who understands women!!! :)!!! :D!!!
Except - does he?
he's spot on. finally someone with a large platform says it.
Dragonetta why
Point Break and Road House are two of the stupidest movies I ever saw
The staging and choreography in Baby Driver is phenomenal, Jamie Foxx is incredibly menacing in that role. So yeah you're entitled to your opinion.... but you're wrong
hey, 99% of the movie focuses on driving ability.
exactly !he didn't watch the movie and i doubt he researches it before sitting with his staff to write the jokes
Let's leave Kevin Spacey alone please… There is no evidence to support any of these alleged allegations against him!
Bill has never been guilty of being too masculine.
Or rather not so insecure that he has to "beef" it up.
I should try to write that book lol. I like some of those driving movies but I can see his point .
Did a man hating feminist write this? or was it all for that kevin spacy joke?
It was written to appease feminists by a dude who think feminists are man-hating idiots ;).

Do you really think that men are the only one to pay $10 to see Goslin or Statham driving a car?...
Cmon Bill. Even a 6 year old could tell you that Baby Driver isn’t about the driving.
Bill: I can’t believe people find people driving cars entertaining.
What do you do for a living Bill?
Bill: I talk.

Drive shouldn’t be on that list. It’s hardly even about driving.
