The Venus clouds are made of sulfuric acid and the surface temperature is 462 °C (863 °F). The surface pressure is 92 times that of earth. That is what the proto-molecule is growing in.
The show is great. Don't worry about the books (they are great too). The book writers are producers on the show, the executive producers are incredible, the translation is about as perfect as it can be done with the budget they had. The books are definitely worth reading after you watch the show (currently 8 books and several short stories).

Not my favourite reaction to anything i must admit. It was not relevant since he is Martian and nothing to do with current real life situation. Plus it dismissed a very valid but to be fair condescending view point. Ever heard the term "hard times create stong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men and weak men create hard times. It is a cycle and not really anyones fault but just due to the nature of humanity really. An unfortunate and possibily unavoidable phenomenom which he was pointing out to Bobbie. Often times those that have observed something and try to tell others of said thing, if it conflicts with someones world views or beliefs it can quite quickly be met with hostility and contempt. If the person trying tell others is constantly told they are wrong after repeatedly being proven right it can be rather frustrating and can lead to resentment. I believe that is the position he was coming from. That being said, he was an arsehole who sacrificed his own people and apparently didnt care so even though i get what he means. I still dont care for him much.

CitizenHans and that is why he needs them, I know in the coming episodes he gets real grouchy with the proto molecule now out and about and Naomi’s betrayal but it’s other people like Naomi, Alex, Amos, and Bobbie and Chrisjen Avasarala to get him back to acting and feeling like a hero doing good. If you’ve seen season 3 you know what I’m talking about.

The sense of impending doom as Alex is standing in that airlock is off the charts.
    ______
    Holden's mother says in 1x7:
*We set him up to be a leader and then gave him a fight he could never win*
    &
*Jimmy liked to think of himself as a knight. He thought it was a funny story. I never broke it to him that it was a tragedy*
Naomi has seen the other side of that (1x5):
*I've known people like him. People with causes. Causes that get people killed*
Even though Naomi loves Jim for his good intentions, she can see the futility (and danger) in his approach.
    ______
As exciting as the story already is, I still think of everything up to this point as build up.

They do cover book 3 in 7 episodes, but actually, it felt about right. I don't think they rushed it, and it made an excellent stopping point if the series was going to end there. So, no complaints about how it was handled from me or anyone I've discussed it with. Fortunately, book 3 was probably the only book that could have been reasonably covered in fewer episodes.

11:50. Holden tells the others to wait here. One by one in rapid succession, everyone negates him...including the reactors.
23:30. Considering that Martens' plans for Bobbie even prior to her assault on him probably included her having an "airlock malfunction" at some point prior to her arrival on Mars, her defection to Earth definitely represented her best available option. (Now it's just a matter of proving that at her eventual court martial.)

    1. Remember - the Protogen scientists are essentially sociopaths artificially made by the procedure on their brain and maybe some are "naturally occurring" ones (I personally think Strickland was not operated on, it's his original personality) - so his assistant was not CAPABLE of being remorseful. In fact, she like Cortazar took pride in their work no matter the cost.
    2. They don't go into this in the show in detail, so I think it's safe to write about here. Not all protomolecule hybrids are children. There are the first generation hybrids, which were made out of "ordinary" Belters. And there is the second generation hybrids programme, which Strickland is now running with the kids.
    3. Venus has a running away greenhouse effect, there is a ton of CO2 in its atmosphere - so it's very hot with immense atmospheric pressure. There are also sulfuric clouds, whiсh contain acidic aerosol, though it's less relevant for the condition at the surface per se. So this makes it incredibly difficult to land any probes on Venus.

It's not intense yet. It's just build up ;)
And yes, book three was condensed into just seven episodes (the second half of season three), but no one was really mad about it, especially not after they had seen what the writers have done with it. If anything some people were concerned that the adapation of book three might be rushed (spoiler: the pace is mindblowing, but it's not rushed and the plot holds up beautifully). Season three is near flawless though and another huge improvement on the already great and improved season two. Like I said, everything you watch now is just build up; actors and assets moving into place for the big show that is the second half of book two. And just when you think that the show cannot get any better, you will enter book three.

  • @TheBerkut88
    @TheBerkut88 5 років тому +10

Fandom wasn't mad because Book 3 had fewer episodes, it (book) has a very slow buildup (imo) and the show just jumps right into the action. The showrunners did a great job adapting Book 3 considering the situation they were in (the probability of cancellation was high and they wanted to give the show a coherent ending). Mostly people complained because they didn't get to see a great character from that book in the show, his role was merged with another one.
There is a good phrase about corruption - "When fighting a dragon beware that you do not become one"

    >Real astronomers have pointed out that alex's journey around Jupiter should have taken weeks or months, but it's so good that they all give the show creative license.
    >Alex noted that a Martian black ops ship had been scheduled to land right there at the Protomolecule facility. Don't forget that ship.
    >Watch in the for the bullet hole in shoulder of the coverall that Amos will continue to wear in future episodes.
    >Errinwright was shaken by his discovery that Mao had made good his threat to find "another patron." But he gave Avasalara a really hard look when he realized she would not help him. It's not "scapegoating" when the person really is guilty.
    >Holden still doesn't understand Naomi's dedication to her Belter people. Just because he won't choose sides doesn't mean that she hasn't. Earth committed the Eros Holocaust and Mars wrecked Ganymede, which will cause mass starvation across the Belt. After all is said and done, the Belters are still the underdogs, and Naomi is on their side.
    >The next episode contains one of the finest dramatic scenes I've seen in 60 years of watching television. I'm an old man, and I've re-watched the next episode just to shed a few man-tears. Kat, be sure to have a fresh box of tissues handy.

The only option is to terraform it. For starters, we'd need to bomb the f*ck out of Venus because it has no tectonic activity. It also has an extremely weak magnetosphere. And then there's the fact that solar flares regularly blast away tons of its atmosphere. I think cloud cities are more plausible than a terraformed Venus.

Take your time BTW as you will want to savor Season 3 and because season 4 is dropping all at once, it will be good if some of my reactors are a bit behind!! This will be a great couple of months coming up! Its been interesting to see how you appreciate Bobbie's growth as a character (because book readers already know her arc, we love her more from the start!) even that gives me more insight into how this series is seen by non book readers. Its all good! I also think you are referring to the fact that the producers were not sure they would continue after season 3 and squished all of book 3 into 7 episodes. Recall as you move forward, that the show was cancelled at the time S3E6 aired and then was rescued (by the fans!!) when E8 dropped. An awful two weeks for us fans of the show and you will see why such a move seemed absolutely insane on SyFy's part.
