The dinosaur characters are from the books, miller and Holden have a small bonding moment remembering watching the cartoon of these two dinosaurs always being chased by the guy in the hat…the props girl that had to design the backpack thought to use these characters ....
_"What does Holden think he's gonna do?"_ He's Holden. He sees a windmill, he's gonna tilt at it (and feel sorry for himself for being the one burdened by this responsibility). Doesn't matter if the windmill actually _is_ a giant.
He also has a Martian warship to back him up if needed.
Fred: “What the hell did you do??”
Holden: “There was a button; I pushed it.”
Fred: “Jesus Christ, that really is how you go through life, isn’t it?”
I am so obsessed with Avasarala’s costuming. Whoever that was needs to win every award.
There's a short clip of the costume team on "Adam Savage Tested". Along with other clips about the expanse Set. (it's from season 3-4 i think, so if you haven't watched this far, it may contain spoilers)
There’s also an episode of the Ty and That Guy podcast interviewing Joanne Hansen, the costume designer. I am still so upset she never won an Emmy for this show.
AND FOR BEST DIRECTOR.... AVASARALA'S COSTUME DESIGNER!
AND FOR BEST SUPPORTING KISS IN AN ACTION TV DRAMA.... _I don't believe it!_ AVASARALA'S COSTUME DESIGNER!
Tbh for Indian Sari's hers look quite normal, not modest but not over the top either.
The way I take the easy embassy escape scene is the fact the Martians never saw it coming. The embassy was on earth, all staff would be vetted and would most likely be hardcore fanatics. The guards were there to dissuade the UN from doing anything rather than keep anyone inside the building. So when Bobby just casually walked out they didn't question it until she got suspiciously close to the embassies border with the UN.
And even having restrict/arrest order doesn't permit shooting to kill. I love how realistic this s3rie in many ways.
Yep. It was beyond imagination that a Martian would defect to Earth (not just politics but also physiology). Effectively and psychologically, everyone was facing the wrong direction.
also one might add that her departure was scheduled, and she therefore possibly wasn't flagged in the system as restricted.
Yeah, and it's also not like all the Martian actions with the protomolecule is fully sanctioned from the government. So it's completely unlikely that all the staff would be aware that Gunny has been confined. And they probably think it's no chance in hell that she would run to the UN, knowing her history as a full on Martian patriot.
@@MolnarG007 They could not shoot, because they would have been shooting towards the Earth soldiers on the other side of the embassy border. One random bullet could have started a war, and to take that risk, they WOULD have needed specific orders first.
The embassy escape scene was fine. Bobby was under orders to remain in her room. It's not as if the entire embassy was instructed to watch her. She's a Marine. From her CO's perspective, the order was sufficient. The worst she'd done up until that point was botch an interview and go look at the ocean.
The guards at the gate were only alerted after her treachery was discovered, likely after one of the officers she knocked out woke up. The guards only got the call after she'd already left the building.
Not only that, embassies are set up to hinder people from outside coming in. A lot less to hinder people from inside going out.
It's weird, though, that her door wasn't locked. You'd think it would be standard procedure - especially with a disciplinary process likely to end in discharge - that there should be a paper trail that includes the confinement, which would lock the door or at least produce an alert if it's opened.
@@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t the guard opened the door when called in to help
@@mella4376 And that event should have been visible to other security. There should 100% have been something there that alerts the embassy's security team that *something* was going on in a room that was supposed to be locked.
@@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t Perhaps in a prison, but she was just confined to her quaters.
Remember back to season 1, episode 4… Naomi and Amos sat on the floor after Alex took the sedative: “I never got to say goodbye”
That + Naomi told Fred, she'd help, but Fred will help her find someone in the future.
One of the things that's so AWESOME about this show is they went to NASA and the gravity assist trajectory he uses WORKS (it takes way longer than depicted). It's that level of detail that makes this show exemplary.
It's one of the things they admit to messing up, though, as it would have actually taken months.
The Roci team doesn't know anything about the Protomolecule hybrid. They don't know what happened on Ganymede.
Nerdy is right that Mao's motives are ruthless, but he's already chided Errinwright for being nationalistically short-sighted. Mao had already told Errinwright that he'd be looking for another client.
There have been a couple of clues that Naomi has a kid. In CQB she mentioned someone she'd never had a chance to say goodbye to. And she knew entirely too much about how children were monitored; when Prax asked her if she had children, she denied it entirely too abruptly.
The Expanse will not disappoint you in its final season or any season. I think you'll agree it's all been time well spent.
Beardless Nerdy doesn't exist, he can't hurt you

The surprising thing is that both the "walk-out-of-embassy" defection, and the "pick-up-and-throw-again" the grenade, have happened MANY times in recent history. I watched a video of a Russian soldier doing the same stuff with a Ukranian grenade dropped by a drone, for instance, I know that has happened a lot in Iraq too. And the defection of an ambassy personal happened several times during the cold war.
also most likely to have been survival instinct for Amos as compared to some who would cover the grenade with their body, considering being exposed to all kinds of shit
in military basic training 25 years ago, that question came up,what if someone throws a grenade into the trench.throw back or jump out? the drill sarge said"the grenade will kill you for sure, the bullets outside might miss you.but, there are a lot of bullets and just one grenade. on the other hand,if you hunch down to grab it,and see how the hull gets tiny little cracks all over, you might regret your decision. so yeah, war is hell.have fun"
Fun fact, The Expanse actually started off as a tabletop game. A modified Sci-Fi D&D.
Shed is actually based on a player that quit early in the campaign so they killed him off unceremoniously in the campaign and did the same in the show.
"is that dinosaur licking that other dinosaur's ass?" Nerdy Nightly, 2023 LMAO
According to the Expanse wiki, Mei has Myers-Skelton Premature Immunosenescence. Based on the name, I'm assuming that it means that her immune system barely functions at all, which explains why she needs daily treatments. The disorder also means that her body won't fight off the protomolecule like a body with a functional immune system would, which would make it easier for the protomolecule to bond.
They go into it a bit more directly in the books, and you've nailed it
All of this gets explained in the show (as you know) so no need to print it here before then.
When I started watching these reactions I never imagined you would be discussing the location of a dinosaur's ass. 🤣
Where do you think the asshole of this cartoon dinosaur is? OMFG. I'm dead.
I love Chrisjen and Bobbi together. They are both the queens of sassy and take no sh*t from anyone.
including each other
Team, ABC coming up!
I beg to differ...there is the true queen who they haven't noticed yet. Nerdy doesn't read comments on here, so not a spoiler.
"What does Holden think he's going to do??"
Just remember that the "Rociante" is a reference to Don Quixote.
IE the guy who thought he was a knight and was so eager to take down monsters he would tilt at windmills. So ... Holden.
Exciting episode with an unexpected dash of dinosaur kink. A bonus that I didn't know I needed.
I love watching you guys love this show! I've said this in your previous reactions, but I am in love with Bobbie Draper. She is a war goddess of Mars, and no matter what, nothing will ever change that. She is glorious.
Also, remember, the employees of Protogen have had their empathy surgically removed with magnets. So none of the people who work for them care that they're experimenting on kids or even care if their co-workers suffer horrific deaths. They only care about "the work".
Also, Amos just tossing a grenade back into the room with the people who threw it is incredible and the most Amos thing ever! XD
Shohreh Aghdashloo was spotted on set for WOT!
There's a fine art to knowing how soon to throw a grenade after you pull the pin. Amos has mastered that art. The villains in this episode have not.
If I remember correctly they call it “cook the grenade”
All the Earth hired goons are too accustomed to easy prey.
To be more precise yes this how grenades work, and not sure Amos knew how much time was left but he had no option once went for it to save everyone but to do az quckly and accurate as possible.
Great scene, and realistic.
The Normies had a hilarious skit based on this scene with 5 minutes of bizarre sound effects after the grenade was tossed back, I think everything from toilet flushes to drills, saws, hammering and engines revving, sky's the limit on the other side of the door.
@@kirkdarling4120 protogen/pinkwater should have ex military ppl in employment who are better at usage of grenades than timothy, no?
I definitely am here for The Expanse TTRPG game... there is also a board game...and recently a comic book series (takes place after the final season)
As much as I enjoy how much you love this show, it's the arguments about the finer points of salad tossing that really keep me coming back 🫦
I only learned a couple of months ago how that phrase would apply to this discussion.
@@kirkdarling4120 agreed, feels like i'm watching children
9:24 doors and corners, that's where they get you
No harm, no harm, me surrender, just got to get slowed down a little.
Security is mostly for somebody getting INTO an embassy, not OUT. It would have taken the guards a little time to catch on.
The beardless guy who sounds like Nerdy suggested Bobby will become a member of the Roci crew. Maybe she uses this episode as her audition tape.
Hell yes, I'd watch an Expanse TTRPG live play :)
Only after they finish the show though, to avoid spoilers :)
The game between Strickland and Mei was him saying the English name of the plant and she was saying the Latin name.
They are not just sick Children, they all have something that reduces their Immune system.
Clarus: *"Is that dinosaur licking that other dinosaur's ass?"*
Me: Well.. that's what dinosaurs do... first thing you learn when studying palaeontology.
We definitely want to see you play the game.
Once you get through the series, and you see who the character is in the game, you'll understand why. 😀
It's amazing they still haven't seen much of maybe the best character in the show
Assuming they are talking about the Green Ronin rulebook for the Expanse RPG, there are two things to point out:
(1) The game is based on the books more than the TV series. (The drawings of the main characters match the book descriptions.)
(2) pg. 10 The game "focuses on the period between the first and second novels of the series."
They are probably okay for spoilers since book 1 ended with "Home", but I'm not completely certain. (And supplemental materials beyond the rule book might reference other books in the series.)
@@mmattson8947 No. There's a Telltale video game currently under development.
@@thomashiggins9320 Nerdy is talking about the TTRPG (The Expanse Roleplaying Game, 2019, Green Ronin Publishing), not a video game.
@@thomashiggins9320 It comes out at the end of July.
As a lover of The Expanse, watching the two of you react and theorize on what's going on and what's going to happen, makes my week every week ! You two are GREAT!
I figure Bobby is a knight and Amos is a barbarian and I want to see them spar.
Oh… all in good time
B: “with you, or WITH you?”
A: “whatever”
takes a silly Amazon X-ray to get that bonus round
New vacation spot, come to Venus and hang out at proto-molecule city, where everything glows blue including you. I feel that there should be a very long firing line by the end of this, if only to get rid of all the people responsible for killing kids! We also find out what a weaponised proto-molecule looks like, and it scares the crap out of me.
You’re SHIPPING Alex and the Roci !!!
Yes, I would like to see you play the Expanse TTRPG
"Is that dinosaur...." I'll never be able to unsee that now! LMAO
The Jupiter moon gravity assist maneuvers would work but it would take weeks to months to complete. Nasa has done this with the Galileo and Juno probes IRL.
Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham (the dynamic duo who wrote the novels under the pen name James S.A. Corey) were intimately involved in the production of the show from beginning to end... have no fear moving forward... trust and believe, you will not be disappointed... they stick the landing... 10/10 ✌️💙
At least they stick the landing as much as Amazon let them. They should've given The Expanse and Wheel of Time bigger budgets instead of wasting it on Rings of Power.
@@TeskoLove Agreed... and the three best books of the series have yet to be adapted...
Now watch The Normies episode where they react to this to. Their skit about the grenade scene is hi-Larry-us.
"Who on Earth is going to buy it?" Have you heard of this guy named Sadovir Errinwright? Why do you think that he and Mao have been so chummy?
oh damn I never noticed the dinosaur eating ass hahahahahha
Amos tossing that grenade right back at them was my favorite part of many parts of this ep.
Poor Bobbie. Crossing that line was the hardest thing she ever did.
In the Books Bobby was like well over 2 meters tall and built like a refrigerator. She had to use an older model of powered armor, as the old model was the only one that could be scaled up to her size, the newer model hadn't been scaled to her size.
Using kids is the expanses way of the villain "kicking the cat"
21:40 Did you guys just forget that they have a Martian Navy ship with mini-nukes on board?
Don't play any Expanse games until after you've finished the series.
I am sure the analytics will show the 14:00 mark as a high replay, for no reason what so ever. Then you go and talk about it. Calmly talking about checks Vs hole. Love you guys!
I love season two. It's the tail end of the slow build up that makes the faster pace of season three work.
28:02 - "If it gets better than this like where are we going, like how?!"
I am so looking forward to your reactions for Season 3!
Since I don't have a gaming group at the moment, I'd love to see an expanse ttrpg game played
In the Martian Embassy they are more concerned about those entering. I'm not sure if they were letting her out to go to the cafeteria. Or the gym. Roberta was allowed out of her room to go to his several times without conditions.
1:32 - You clearly missed a big hint when Holden and Naomi were "interrogating" Prax at Tycho. I suspected that when i saw your reaction to that episode (8) - you skipped it - Naomi told Prax about clinics having to legally provide parents ways to remotely monitor their children from anywhere, to which Prax deduced and told her that she had children too. Naomi denied it in a way that made it obvious that she indeed had children. Also, remember Naomi saying that she didn´t get to say goodbye while the Donnager was being attacked, and remember also that she (...)? Or Naomi´s near despair when she couldn´t convince that little belter girl to escape Eros with the gang.
2:35 - He´s not part of the permanent staff of the embassy. He also went to Earth with Bobbie, remember?
6:38 - One of the few physics mistakes of the show. That slingshot trajectory would´ve taken a LOT of time to complete. Ty choose the moon Cylene for the Roci to park/hide because he found the name pretty, but nobody checked the distances involved. Only later they noticed the mistake (before the episode aired) but it was already too late to correct it.
11:49 - adding to the above, yeah, no way this kind of deceleration would be possible with just thrusters, and without some kind of (serious) physical consequences.
22:45 - I think there are ways to fill in the blanks and explain the escape in a non silly way.
27:11 - listen to the name of the illness and draw your conclusions ;)
Yeah they drop hints she had had a kid or raised kids or something like that (could have also had like a baby sibling she had to raise like a parent or something else) but this is the first time in the show that people are explicitly told she has a boy who was taken from her
There are some spoilers in this comment …
@@jddang3738 Failing to see where...care to give a hint?

@@jddang3738 Damn, wrote a big reply and lost it...
I just recaped things shown up to now. If one remembers those instances i think it´s pretty hard not to connect the dots. That being said, i didn´t say if that would come to fruition, which in turn you did (i know, i know, it´s hard to talk about something without doing just that).
Now, i can see an argument being made that these reactors may not remember those events and that just pointing to them could be a spoiler.
I´m finding that by knowing what comes later it´s hard to judge this situation, so...fair enough. Although i don´t totally agree with you, i´ll edit, but i don´t see a need for you to delete your comments (with my edit they´ll lose context).
You can't keep getting endlessly caught up in the potential logistics of embassies and where bodies of water are.
This is set in the future. It has nothing to do with the security measures of modern embassies, and Bobby wasn't on house arrest. Her supervising officer Maartens wasn't necessarily following all the rules either. Confining her to her quarters was just an order, and she's a marine so they're not expecting her to defect.
Fun Fact : Apprently, when Bobbie pushed the chaplain into the TV screen, it wasn't suppose to be that hard, but they accidentally cracked the TV and went with it.
I've heard that too but it's one of those things that makes me wonder what else could they be going for?
It's a great system that even have a social combat system that mirrors the physical combat system so you can play an Avasarala type character
Bobby defecting is one of my favorite scenes in any show ever.
"where do you think the asshole of this thing is?"
I am deaddddddd
I don't wanna spoil anything, but I will just say: Nerdy needs some tissues for the next one.
Clarus: Is that dinosaur licking the other dinosaur's ass
Me: I'm pretty sure I saw a tongue too. . . so not sure she's wrong
I know that I would love to see you playing the Expanse TTRPG.
I attributed Bobby being able to get away from Mars due to that society’s overconfidence in every Martian’s blind ‘nationalism’ and strict militaristic society, specially from a spec ops Marine like Bobby. They probably thought ‘orders’ would be enough.
“Slingshot time” - If you look closely, The Roci' had already started a trajectory line, which it then backtracked when Alex said “No engines”. It then waited for any other commands/filters ("just thrusters"), before restarting their planned trajectory. - It's another one of those "little things" the SFX team didn't _have_ to put in there, but am thankful they did.
14:04 OMG, Clarus looks shook, that was a good giggle... 🤣
The fact that all the children suffer from exactly the same genetic disease and the accompanying inability to make certain proteins almost certainly indicates that they are more susceptible to infection by the protomolecule. Or rather their body doesn't actually fight the infection and can enter into the hybrid state. As opposed to most people exposed to the protomolecule whose body fights the infection until they die and are consumed (cf Eros).
Don't worry. One of many great things about the Expanse... It knows how to stick a landing 😃
You are absolutely correct this is the best fucking show there ever was. And I should know because i have seen some great fucking shows. Band of brothers is kinda no 1.1 if Expanse no 1. Prison break was epic too, the wire was insane as well. There a shit ton of great shows but The Expanse has almost everything perfect. Space+politics+friendship+family+war everything they nail everything.
Bobbie knocked Martens unconscious, so figure (at best) ten minutes to regain consciousness and another minute to get to his feet, and who knows how long to be able to talk after that throat strike. The guard will be unconscious and likely concussed after his head slammed into the wall hard enough to leave a blood-stain behind.
Reality is that if you hit someone hard enough to knock them out, chances are they’re going to need serious medical attention.
Bobbie is the kind of skill set where if she wanted him to not get up again he wouldn’t.
Likely she aimed for a “needs medical attention to recover.”
Did we know Naomi had a kid? No, we did not. Love how they just slipped it in.
Cats do clean each other.
Bobby and Chrissie; the dynamic duo!!
There's one scene were someone asks Naomi if she's ever had kids, she immediately says no, looks down and leans backward. In hindsight she's being defensive and ashamed
Many clues and hints to her child throughout the show, the biggest being when she denied having one while talking to Prax in ep8.
Once you are already inside, people do not clue in quickly
Bobbie is a highly trained Marine. She inows the best way to get in amd out of places under all kinds of circumstances.
Trust me this show only gets better and better lol its phenomenal! loving the reactions, and please let's see y'all play the game too lol
I love the fact everyone focuses on the fact it is not wearing a vac suit... not that it is clearly an alien life form
Not everyone-just the Martians. For them, seeing any living thiing outside would seem far more unnatural than it does to us.
@@aboubenadhem9066 Probably because the script was written before they had designed the cgi hybrid. I am guessing the original idea was that tbey looked more human
I can confirm that this will be your favorited show ever because it's my favourite show ever and I've seen the final season and I think if you like the characters, relationships, drama and history more than the protomolecule stuff then season 5 will be your favourite season. Season 5 reaches a level you don’t expect from the show and one actor in particular was robbed of all the acting awards!
I can’t wait for you to get to see the next one. Drum rolls!!
Limited space in the Martian Embassy means meetings are held in rooms. I'm sure conference rooms need to be booked in advance. Easier to hold them in quarters.

Who'dve thought that "grenade" "that guy" and "thank you" would be the most iconic lines of the best character in the show.
The Expanse has a huge advantage that Game of Thrones did not... everything they filmed for the series was already published as a book and the writers on the show (which included the book's authors) already had pathways marked out for them. You could tell with GoT that as soon they got past where George R.R. Martin had left off and they were in charge of the story things started falling apart plot and character-wise.
This isn't a spoiler to say but The Expanse stuck the landing where GoT did the equivalent of snapping an ankle.
At times they travelled faster in GoT then they do in The Expanse with thr Epstein drive lol.
the fun and miracles begin slowly... "When u attack the gods u must sturm the sky"
For me personally, This show finishes WAY stronger than GoT. There are maybe a couple of episodes here and there that maybe are just OK, but overall the show maintains a high level of quality and sticks the landing. It is at least in my top 3 shows of all time, if not taking the top spot.
Also, S3 is probably my favourite season of television in any show. Every episode is incredible.
I hope you guys will read the books. You'll get a lot more detail about things and are quite a bit different not necessarily redoing the exact same story.
The show only gets better n better you guys are in for a treat!
The character art in the ttrg is one of the weirdest things, but I'll certainly watch you play.
Agreed, but aside from that it seems really good game
Ty Franck, one of the authors of The Expanse books (under the pseudonym James S.A. Corey) was George R.R. Martin’s personal assistant. Also, Martin is a huge fan of the books and show.
And GoT completely fell apart when Ty left to work on The Expanse, which makes me wonder if GRRM was really the one behind GoT.
Well, now we know who has the dirty mind
I swear I'm tripping but I have this clear image in my head of Naomi talking about her son during their escape from eros back in season one and yet every time I rewatch this show that scene AIN'T THERE
well, there's the scene between her and fred where she asks for the favor
The emotion when Naomi let the girl go and knew it was a death sentence, I guess was a normal reaction, but there was also a mother's protectiveness there and sort of reliving her loss.

Maybe you're thinking of the upcoming episode in S3 when Naomi explains to Holden why she did what she did in the next episode (S2E12)
Remember what Naomi said about her baby-boy. It is important later in the show.
Hang on tight 2x12 is a masterpiece.
I don't think Bobbie was formally under house arrest; I think Martens just told her to stay put and kind of expected that she would. They might have posted a guard on her room, but I don't think the whole place was on high alert or anything. I think this actually tells us something about Martian culture. Martians are pretty obsessed with duty and following the rules is something they're raised with to the point that it's just assumed that people will, because defying the government's instructions (or those of a military superior) would be completely antithetical to the Martian character. So, given that, Bobbie probably had a reasonably good chance of escaping provided she was quick about it. The notion that a Martian Marine would dishonor themselves by disobeying orders is probably hard enough for them to conceive; the notion that a Martian citizen would voluntarily relinquish that citizenship is practically blasphemy. I just don't think either of these is something they would be trained to deal with.
And also, Bobbie may well have known that the embassy guards would (as one of them said) not be authorized to fire weapons outside the embassy's grounds, and that they wouldn't dream of violating that rule, no matter what. So she probably had a pretty good chance of walking out of the building, and a better than even chance of being out of the reach of the Martians by the time she was detected.
I know nobody who watched "The Expanse" who does not say, its the best show they ever seen!
