    "Gunny" is Bobbie's rank, it's short for Gunnery Sergeant.
    When Frankie Adams threw the other actor into the monitor, she really did throw him hard enough to break it, and she was like "oh shit" after the take.
    Re: Alex's slingshot maneuver, the VFX folks for the show said on reddit that they actually screwed up that part. When they filmed the previous episode they picked the moon Cyllene for him to hide behind because they thought it sounded cool, but later found out it was one of the farthest moons out from Jupiter, and had to work out a way for Alex to get back quietly. That slingshot maneuver in reality would work, but it would have taken weeks, if not months.

    • @Dell-ol6hb

      syngyne yeah it definitely would’ve taken many months

    • @221b-l3t

      Yeah he was doing Hohman transfers with the RCS and Cyllene takes two years to orbit Jupiter, so to get down to Ganymede, he wouldn't have been moving much faster than Cyllene itself taking him roughly a year, if we say he takes half orbit to get down to Ganymede.

    Just some military info. "Gunny" refers to her rank as a marine. It is a nickname for a marine that has achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Leaders (non commissioned officers) in the enlisted rank structure.

    13:40 this is what "Slingshotters" in the show do there adreneline junkies that do this shit for fun.
    They constantly mention famous slingshotters on Belter news when they die or set a new record.
    Its amazing the attention to detail the show does. Like in S1 there was a slingshotter that died.

    "Here there be Dragons" is a metaphor for the unknown as it was used to mean dangerous or unexploreed territoties, much like sea monsters were drawn on maps where noone had actually visited and returned to detail the area. The phrase "HC SVNT DRACONES" (here are dragons) can be seen on the Hunt-Lenox Globe en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunt%E2%80%93Lenox_Globe from the 1500s which is seen around east Asia (and may refer to species like the Komodo dragons which were common throughout the area. An earlier variant for Roman & Medieval map makers was "HC SVNT LEONES" (here are lions) when marking unknown areas on maps.

  • @Cbricklyne
    @Cbricklyne 6 років тому +7

    That slingshot trajectory that he plotted around those moons would realistically actually take weeks or even months , to complete - and not the couple of hours they showed in the show.
    Especially if he was doing it without the Epstein drive and using just manoeuvring thrusters.
    Also, there's no way you'd ever be able to see the moons in that close proximity to one another (the scene after he completed the trip) no matter what their current orbital positions were.
    They're just too far away from each other and space is just too damn big.
    As is Jupiter (for reference, Earth is smaller than that famous red spot or red "eye" on the surface of Jupiter which we can see from Earth. So imagine how far apart and how big the orbits of its moons are, relative to both Jupiter itself and just relative to Earth even.
    This show takes a ton of liberties with the physics and science part.
    But that's cool.

    • @ChipMatthews
      @ChipMatthews 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, they definitely took some huge artistic license there, but the VFX were gorgeous.

    • @allyourmoney
      @allyourmoney 6 років тому +2

      Naren Shankar admitted that mistake in a guest post on Daniel Abraham's blog. By the time he realized the mistake it was too late to change it. He wished he'd picked a different moon, but oh well.
      www.danielabraham.com/2017/04/04/guest-post-losing-science-drama-finding-drama-science/

    • @Cbricklyne
      @Cbricklyne 6 років тому +2

      Well at least he owns up to it.
      Unfortunately for them, they made it only too obvious (or even more obvious) with that holographic display showing the whole mapped trajectory which right away gave away the fact that there's no way he was making that trip in a couple of hours or even days.
      But still, it looked gorgeous and was well acted.
      However even if he had corrected it like he wanted to,, they still committed another common Sci-Fi faux pas at the end of the sequence when he finally arrives and he's looking at the moons all lined up in his front view screen.
      Yet another thing that would never happen or be visible that way.
      The moons are too far away from each and too small to get that sort of visual.

    • @jadli814
      @jadli814 6 років тому +1

      Well, I think the shot was definitely fast forwarded, or at least we were supposed to think so...

    • @Cbricklyne
      @Cbricklyne 6 років тому +2

      It doesn't matter, whether it fast forwarded or not.
      That trajectory is supposed to be a months-long trip and not the couple of hours or even days they showed it to be.
      Did they have enough food and water to wait for him for months to come rescue them?
      Did he? for the trip?
      It doesn't matter anyway since the producer already admitted they screwed up big time with that sequence and that they chose a moon that was too far away from Ganymede for that scene to make sense in the time-frame they were showing.

    There are so many points this season where I'd have gut shot Naomi and fed her to the protomolecule. I was honestly far more on board with the (somewhat psychotic) James Holden crusade (pogrom) to stamp out the Protomolecule and anyone affiliated with it. Which is pretty funny since I *also* agreed 100% with Naomi and Fed Johnson that once the genie (Protomolecule) is out of the bottle, there's no going back.
