I can't believe it! I have John Skinner beat!!! My personal best fluke fishing day I had 22 keepers. HOWEVER, it was many years ago and the keeper size wasn't 18.5" back in those days. Then again, I wasn't fishing in the mecca of fluke fishing...MONTAUK! Congrats John, that's a fantastic day of fluking.
Great video. Ive lost plenty of flounder at the boat and caught them after they settled back down but never would of thought they would hit it that quick. I'm usually in 4ft of water so I just guess where they land and it usually takes less than 3 trys to get them back on the line.
I use my nexus with 2oz or under and I use the skinner rod for 3-6, I finally took it out and first time using it I limited out. Such an amazing rod great work John.
Hi John so I bought one of your jigging rods I been fluke fishing for 20 years and I must say that it is the very best investment I've made we were at Montauk Saturday I totally crushed fluke jigging I watch your videos and have learned so much thanks for your products ect sincerely Brian
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I see what you mean about the hookset... boy that last one at the end of the video was explosive. I never really have seen that because I never have recorded that angle.
Mr Skinner do you think halibut would have the same tendencies as fluke and flounder as far as technique presentation and retrieving? And would you ever consider making a halibut jig?
Another great video John! Big fan, was wondering if you've taken the kayak out yet for a try at some fluke? Would love to see a kayak tutorial on catching those flatties. Tight lines and can't wait for next video!
I fish Galveston bay. As far as I know we have the same flounder (southern) as most on the east coast. No one here fishes flounder deeper than 5'. Have you tried your methods in TX?
No kidding.. i landed a 6 pounder a few years ago.. took it out of the net and unhooked it leaving the jig right in front of its mouth while i turned around for 2 seconds to grab a towel to pick it up with to place in my cooler.. when i picked it up it had eaten the jig again while on land!! Couldnt believe it!
Great video. Love your videos and have learned a ton from all your videos. I have a quick question. I notice you tend pause before you set the hook. Is that to let the fluke fully take the hook?
What a great day. Pleasure to finally meet you. . Lots of laughs and breaking 🥜 . I had a really good time. Thanks for letting me use the rod. I loved it. Picking one up immediately. Till next time. 👊 💪 🎣
Not the same. These are Summer Flounder. Yours are Gulf and Southern. Appearance and behavior is similar. These techniques work on your fish, as I've had good reports about that from Galveston.
I’ve been doing good with this method using a 6 oz buck tail and a teaser. But 95% of the time the fluke are hitting the teaser and not the bucktail… is there something I’m doing wrong?
Hi John, I mainly fish nearshore wrecks, less than half a mile offshore, in 25-35 feet of water. I usually use your style of jigging and do great in most days, but some days the bites are hard to come by. I've noticed that on those days, the few hits that I get don't come from my bucktail being jigged, but instead come immediately when my jig hits the bottom when I'm initially dropping it down. Have you experienced this? What changes do you think I should make to my tackle or jigging technique on those odd days? Do you think it's something about my drift speed? I'm usually jigging a 3 or 4 inch gulp swimming mullet on a 1.5oz bucktail Thanks so much!
@@paoutdoorsman4683 The older ones I have use shorter shank hooks that work fine on 4-inch grubs, but not on 6-inch. It's possible they've changed the hook since then, but I'm not sure.
on one of your fluking videos, i think you mentioned a "boat limit", which i took to mean the per person possession limit multiplied by the number of people fishing on the boat. my question is this: is it technically a violation of the game laws if one person catches 'more than their share' of the keepers? in the extreme case, can one fisherman on a boat with three other people legally catch 16 keepers and not violate the law? obviously, it would be difficult to prove and thereby mostly pointless, but i have a friend who insists it would be a violation. i love your videos.
Not true! Not on the Dark Matter Skinner rod. I used to cut the Nexus. The Skinner rod was designed to be perfect off the shelf and not require a modification.
Trust John don't need no click bait and I'm sure it was not meant for that guys these days just can't take a joke these days always has to be something else great video point blank

another summer jigging from the boat video. I'm sorry, but fishing from the boat, on top of a structure, just isn't much of a challenge. Plus, most of people dont have access to boats.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Don't get me wrong, I love most of your videos. They are instructional and entertaining, Unforunately, the jigging on top of a structure from a private boat scenario during summer is just not something that I can relate or learn from. I would love to see videos where you try from the surf or from Kayak, or discover new spots along the north shore, while teaching us what to look for or do. But that's just me.
Love the banter and giving each other a bit of a hard time occasionally! Great video

And I got the worst everyone voted. But still had the second most fish that day. 😂
Mr Skinner do you think halibut would have the same tendencies as fluke and flounder as far as technique presentation and retrieving? And would you ever consider making a halibut jig?
I've had many tell me these techniques work great for California Halibut. I would never make a special jig for them, because I don't fish for Halibut.
Thanx for some great eye candy shots
Wait..why am i here????

Not the same. These are Summer Flounder. Yours are Gulf and Southern. Appearance and behavior is similar. These techniques work on your fish, as I've had good reports about that from Galveston.
Hate you John Skinner.....! Lol great video guys
Hey John, looking forward to your new rod coming out!.. Any news on availability?
About 2 weeks.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Is this a different rod than the Dark Matter jigging rod currently in stock at J&H?
@@wooster The rod in the video is the the casting rod at J&H. The next one to arrive should be the spinning version.

I've not experienced that. Assuming you're in the ocean, I think you might be better off with 5 and 6-inch grubs though.
Idk why they aren’t biting down here in New Jersey. Not a single fluke caught in like 2 weeks.
Time to buy a Skinner rod!
It’s been tough down here in south Jersey but I nailed them on Sunday. Check out my UA-cam channel. Skinner is God!
Mr. Skinner, what pound test are you using on those bait casters. Same question on the leader.
& is your teaser display on a standars dropper loop?
15# main line, 30 leader, teaser on dropper loop
@@JohnSkinnerFishing right on. Thanks brother. Tights lines!
Just curious. What is the limit ? And are you able to keep more than a personal limit to go towards a boat limit ?
18.5 inches
Thoughts on your bucktails going to synthetic hair and not bucktail anymore?? They don't look as pretty in the water to my eye.
I think it's OK for fluke. Not sure on bass, but those are still real hair.
Any particular color working especially well this year or doesn’t really matter?
If I had to pick two colors - pink shine and salmon red.
From now on, one size bucktail and one size bucktail only.. SIX OUNCE!
Caught a 23 incher from the shore in hatters. My luck season doesn't open till September.
Great beach fish!
You use rubber nets????
Reduces hook tangles. Better on the fish.
Hey John, I noticed you were using a teaser with a shank that looks longer than the ones you put a link for. Is that correct?
These are the silicone skirt tsunami teasers. Be sure to get those and not the tinsel ones.

The Fluke fishing wasn't the only thing that was smoking hot.
I like to use a 1/4 oz bucktail in 60 ft of water with a 2 knot current. If that doesn’t work for you then your not doing it right.
It all depends if the bottom and top currents are the same. If not, there will be line scope.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing 1/4 Oz in 60’ with a 2 knot current?? Is he using a 4oz gulp grub? 🤣
Nice job but give me a break about requesting a net on every 19" fish you hook.
