I didn't know that was you out there, John, otherwise I would have said hello. I was the one in the Shamrock Hardtop with the trolling motor. At 22:15, you can hear my niece singing Billy Joel, as a fluke attractant, LOL!. We limited out by slack tide. I towed my boat 300 miles for 4 days on the Sound. Lots of bait all over and lots of nice fluke. I wanna come back now, but the farm fields need attention.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Ha! Monday was a bit jazzy for a 17-mile run, but the rest of the week was great. I miss surf-fishing and fluking it since I moved away in '98. Thanks for the excellent videos to remind me of what I'm missing. Please do one of stop-and-go traffic to add to it, LOL!
Thanks for the video John. Looks like you had a lot of action which makes it fun. I've noticed this year we've had an abundant amount of grass shrimp this year and the flounder fight much harder. Pulled up 14-15" fish that I was sure were keepers. Looks like you maybe having the same thing except with sand eels. Happy fathers day to all!
We spent Father's Day Black Sea Bass fishing out of Sea Isle City, NJ. I can verify the same. The sand eels are here in force and they fueled the best day of fishing I've had in years.
Ok this is hilarious because I hear myself singing Down Easter Alexa in the background around 22:15 😂😂 we limited out this day. Was a great day out there.
North SHore seems to be paved with Fluke so far this season! Sand Eel hatches almost every weekend I'm out there on the sand flats are really heating up the bite. Great to see Fluke action like this!
My buddy and I had a day just like this on Monday, the Nj ocean water looked like Mexico I couldn’t believe my eyes the fish were biting the second we dropped till we left. But same drift conditions you have here just followed the bottom I wanted to fish perfectly! All thanks to Mr skinner.
Reminds me of summers with my grandfather. He lived in Bayside, other side of Long Island. He’d take me and my brother out for hours. Probably so he could have some peace while he had to watch us but still. Some of my best memories of him. Haven’t fished salt in about 2 years though.
I can confirm that Salt Strong members get free lures but you have to pay the shipping. They've had different soft plastics each month so I've been ordering them. Some have been pretty productive.
I fished where you stopped at end of video. Extremely similar results and circumstances. Slightly better ratio though. The video made me smile because everything you were saying, I had said two days ago on my Hydrasport. Hoping it holds on. We are launching out of CT and I am tired of running to the windmills or Cartwright to have a chance at catching a decent fluke. I think jigging jerks had a good day closer to me as well. Love your videos bro. Keep them coming

got 42 in the span of 3hrs on the Cape last week. All shorts but the numbers were ridiculous to the point I couldn't target striped bass low, anything within 3 feet of the bottom got hammered. I even stepped on one while wading in a foot of water. Reports of big fluke(10+ pounds) by Nantucket and the Vineyard already are popping up. Its gonna be one hell of a fluke year.

Visited some family in Miller Place over the weekend. Had an hour to kill at the beach. Short fluke on every cast on a 1/4 jighead and gulp. Every one was stuffed to the gills with little sand eels
Good morning Mr. Skinner, I have just recently started using Gulp and i’ve been wondering how long i should wait to change to a new bait? assuming the scent runs out… Thank you and great vid👍
I’ve been hearing talk about .8 to 1.2 mph drift for years now. Problem for me is I’m usually on a charter that’s either going faster or slower than that. What type of rig would you recommend in those cases? Thanks again for all the years of the best fishing content!
In your videos when your Fluking from the shore it looks like a daytime activity. Like early morning but what about fishing for Fluke in the middle of afternoon from the beach? like 12pm - 4pm? Do Fluke leave the beach and move into deeper water because water gets too warm or it too sunny in the afternoon?
Hey Skinner, just curious what your opinions are between the Minn Kota’s and the Rodans, noticed you have a Rodan on this boat but Rick has a Minn Kota, just curious how you think they compare?
Minn Kota all the way. We had trouble with this Rhodan on the end of the trip when we tried to use it. I had to steer it by turning the head with my hand. A boat I fished on a few years ago needed a new mother board on their Rhodan. I have Minn Kota here and Florida and no issues.

@@JohnSkinnerFishing kayak and jon boat. and yeh that would make sense. my issue is i can never tell when im still on bottom without feeling it dragging and going over rocks and such, OR the biggest issue is current is going a tad fast and i cant keep the jigs straight down it often goes at a angle. if that makes sense? i also gotta get a new fishing buddy bc he makes fun of me for using your method when he uses a single jighead and gulp shrimp and catches a keeper every single trip lol. When there aren't sandeels around, I often use a 3-inch gulp shrimp on a 3/0 gamakatsu baitholder hook as the teaser. That should be about a foot above the main jig. Put lots of action on it with the proper weight jig and you should catch.
Owned 6 boats, however I’ve been out for 15 years. Looking to buy a new 17-19 C/C with a Yamaha or Mercury outboard. Nervous about spending 50 plus K and having problems with the ethanol. Can anyone advise. Thank you in advance.
Lots of great fuel additives out there. Lucas ethanol treatment works great when I run E85 in my F150. Yeah I know it’s not a boat motor but there are plenty of great treatments available for your application.
Stay away from any carbureted engine. The ethanol gums them up frequently, even with fuel treatments. The guys I know with fuel injected engines have zero issues with ethanol. The most important thing to do is to keep fresh fuel in it. It's a great excuse to go fishing more often

You use the flex of the rod to swing it it up and over the rail. Lots of fish have swam away with this terrible dangling technique.

Depends on where. White and chartreuse seem best here.

Good morning Mr. Skinner, I have just recently started using Gulp and i’ve been wondering how long i should wait to change to a new bait? assuming the scent runs out…
Thank you and great vid👍
Because fluke fishing is drift fishing (boat or kayak), change it every drift or recharge the rig in Gulp juice every drift.
Full frontal John Skinner!
I went for fluke off the beach the other day got a nice 20 inch
recommend any good spots for staten for fluking on shore?
I’ve been hearing talk about .8 to 1.2 mph drift for years now. Problem for me is I’m usually on a charter that’s either going faster or slower than that. What type of rig would you recommend in those cases? Thanks again for all the years of the best fishing content!
I would just increase the bucktail weight. If you still can't hold, then chicken rig with whatever sinker necessary.
No problem at all. Fluke hit great through the day, with some of the best bites under high sunshine.
Do you find the fluking in the sound to be better closer to shore this time of year, or equally as good further out?
They're usually out on the shoal edges.
None of the foul hooking you saw during the tournament. Just a different bite?
Happy Father’s Day John, do you think the fluke fishing is improving this year, I caught an 8lb PB in the bay this week ? Thanks.
It all depends where you're fishing.
When the fluke come into the sound, do they generally go from east to west or west to east?
I believe they enter from the east, but the good fishing can still start in the west depending on water temp and bait distribution.
This makes me so sad. Went out Friday on a party Boat and out of the entire day of fishing only 2 people caught anything. 1 fluke, 1 monster Porgy. :(
John, genuine question, why don’t you like to net fluke unless you know they are big?
It's not the best for the fish and it potentially tangles the rig.
Have you found “spot lock” to be effective on a side mounted trolling motor?
Not my boat, but it should be fine.
There in the western sound better than in the past few years.
Is it per person or per boat limit?
Hey John, I know I asked you before but I misplaced your answer. I ask again why is the make, year and length of your boat? Thanks
16'4'', grumman 1986
What percentage of the fluke hit the bottom vs the teaser?
If you use the correct weight bucktail, it should be close to 50:50.
That’s such a fluke you caught a fluke
Where you fishing here ?
I miss saltwater fishing, being in NH its all freshwater for me.
