I grew up in San Anselmo. Back in the late 60's and early 70's my family owned the Home Market grocery store which is now the Courtyard. We lived at 35 entrata. Here is a newer video ua-cam.com/video/1GY3LG8qQlA/v-deo.html Due to divorce the house was sold in 73 for 125K. It's now around 4 to 5 million. I went to Drake High School and was shocked to see it renamed "Archie Williams" They should have named it after the "Miwok" as they lived in Marin County for thousands of years. San Anselmo population is the same now as 1965
Interesting facts! Wild that population hasn't really changed much since then. Thanks for commenting and watching :)
I would love to watch a special interest story about what pre-teens & teenagers do in San Anselmo for fun. Back in the 60's and 70's when I was a pre teen and teenager we had skating rinks & drive in theaters. San Anselmo ave had the five and dime store, a hobby shop where we could race our little race cars on their electric tracks. I loved going to Jacks Drug store to buy the most current comic books, The local barber shop was operated by an older couple who lived in the apatment in the back of their shop and when he finished cutting my hair his wife would come to me and take my hand and took me back to their kitchen where cookies and milk were waiting. My freinds and I would go down to the creek that paralels San Anselmo Ave trying to catch steelheads by hand. I turned 16 in 1973 and watched George Lucas make his first movie American Graffitti. We would ride our bikes to Phoenix lake to go fishing or just hang out at the ARCO gas station. I could go on & on but will stop here. One more thing, if we had internet, I phones, texting etc 50 years ago would I have missed out on the best years of my life?@@austinklar
wow! What did your parents have to say after seeing it go to 5 mil?
Both my parents have passed in the last few years. San Anselmo was one of the best places I ever lived (60's-80"s) but I really don't miss it as San Anselmo ave is filled with very upscale restaurants and antique stores. Not really a place for my 10 & 12 year old grandsons. San Anselmo is now an adult community. When I was growing up in SA my parents owned the Home Market grocery, meat & produce market. This Market originally opened in the 1920's by the Franchini family and sold to my parents in the 1960's. We delivered to our wealthy customers (all with personal charge accounts) as far as Kentfield to Fairfax. I started working at 10 years old going to the produce market in San Francisco with my dad and at 11 years old they put milk crates below the cash register so I could reach the register. At this time of my working life I was going to Wade Thomas elementary. Our meat department had 3 professional butchers that custom cut your order. The meat truck would back in and the halves of beef were put on hooks and rolled into the aging fridge for up to 3 months for proper aging. FIRST CLASS operation. To this day I could cut & process an entire side of beef unlike most butchers in local grocery stores. We also had the best walk in the deli in town. Again, I don't miss SA but my fond memories are tucked away in my heart.@@CC-kg6vs
