26:58 “And I looked down and said I know it’s small….oh you’re talking about the car!” 😂😂😂
Took me out of guard! Got a good laugh!
Absolutely hilarious.
Reminds me of the UA-camr that shouts to a guy smoking a cigarette through his open window… “Yo, don’t you know smoking makes your penis shrink?” He laughs and replies “I know… Don’t need!” Lmao 😂

Fun fact: Portimão is a city in Algarve (south coast of Portugal)
That car in that color looks amazing to me, I love it
I love the M50 Beaver. :)
Thanks for doing the rerun!
With coolant or without coolant, or whatever excuse BMW made, I don't think that test at 8 deg avg temperature is credible enough to dismiss cooling issues at 26 deg avg temp.
My thoughts exactly. Running the test at night is also easier on the cooling system. How will this car perform mid-day on the German Autobahn in summer?
@@georgepelton5645 flawlessly. With the m50 I've driven across Germany with the cruise on 150-160 on the autobahn during the summer (30c+), got 200kwh every charge (at the start) with ionity.
@@NL-nr7zv maybe you mean 200 kWh/h... like a proper German 😂😂😂
@@BallantineElectric draining that battery in 24min haha! Jokes aside, it does quite oke with efficiency on high speeds.
Exactly
i really dig the colour of the i4
Please clarify re preconditioning / climatization. 2 issues or 1? Cabin comfort or battery functioning? thanx
For the theoretical 1000km challenge, starting with a full battery and driving at 120km/h (75 mph), assuming optimal driving conditions and consumption of 21kWh/100km, 1000km will take 9 hours and 27 minutes to drive. This will requires three charge sessions charging from 2% to 56%. The total time lost for charging will be 67 minutes. This assuming 5 minutes lost per change stop. Also with "old curve"
How sexy can a car be?
BMW: yes
Hey TB, love your videos! Lot's of information. I would love to see a 1000km challenge re-test with the Audi e-tron GT in better weather conditions (so like the rest of the top-5 cars).
When will you get your hands on the eqs suv mate?
Small joke that doubles the value of the video 26:54
Frozen Portimão blue... Its a race track in south of Portugal
Brilliant 😊👌
I think I read somewhere on the BMW site that it only charges a maximum of 200 kW at the beginning of the charge, then it drops the more the battery is topped up. To save the battery. Could that be the cause?
Oh Bjorn I like your videos but it looks like the i4 doesn’t hotgate because it is charging slower and/or the temp is too cold. I believe the coolant fixed the hotgating though.
i Just got my i4 40 and i can easily do 530kms with a full charge. I am going to do a 3800km drive in december... not sure how that is going to go.
How did it go?
it went pretty good to be honest. Biggest challenge is time management. For example we planned on arriving at Algeciras (where we would take the boat) at 23:30 at night but we arrived at 03:30 due to some problems with chargers, having to wait for a charger etc.. I wouldn't recommend an electric vehicle if you plan on doing such long trips often, but for example 1000-1500km trips are almost no different than with a regular car. (I stop often to eat, drink, toilet anyway) Charge time at the superchargers is around 25mins for 5-80%. I always drive until 5-10% and charge to 90-100% when doing long trips (even tho they recommend only to charge to 80% for battery longevity).
*Also my prior statemet of doing 530kms is when i am not doing any highways. When you drive on highways you can expect 350-420kms depending on weather.
The best ive done so far was 600km on a full charge from 100% - 1%.
@@ericnewton5720
@21:20 - at least here that's to try and create a gap in traffic so that an accident can be cleaned up (without actually stopping anything)
Many Thanks for this video. Looking forward to my m50. Will arrive in
did you receive your car? br
@@user-qr2cf5ve3u yes sir. I've had it since 7 Dec. Haven't been around my pc for a long time so haven't seen you message :)
At the previous run, didn't the car had to low refrigerant charge, rather then low coolant level?🤔
Bjørn, now that the Ioniq 5 can be updated to enable battery pre-heating at the dealers, are you going to get one to do a 1000km challenge in cold weather to see how it performs with the new update?
Nice music !
Amazing looking car!
And it was…10mins slower!! 😂😂😂. That made me laugh!!
Hey Bjorn, why is the route displaying the "Achtung Kuhe" as the only warning on route at 16:48 . This seems a bit odd...
Premium car for the press having low coolant... These happen too often. Someone does not understand that a press car is a very important car for the image of the company and it has to be checked thoroughly.
I'm more worried that the car doesn't report (or even detect) this defect.
I guess there’s no low coolant sensor in the reservoir? That’s an oversight really
@@deurkl would actually be strange, because as a user you don't even see the expansion tank because everything is covered.
Then the software would have to step in here and report that the outside temperature and charging capacity should actually not lead to any throttling and emit a message. At least an error code in memory should be stored.
@@jadziadax8658 i would be worried as a customer, which i'm not. i see this as a pr messup where the company representatives do not show the proper care. if they do not do it for the few press cars, then does this make me think they care more or less for the many cars they sell? it makes me think they show even less care.
Kinda scandalous the whole thing 🙄🙄
The color Portimão is a Portuguese town in Algarve, near is the AIA; International Algarve Race track
Onlyfans mode 😂😂😂
The i4 infotainment seems to have the same home button icon as the Ioniq 5.
Can you please do a video on the cost per kWh of charging in different European countries for rapid charging and the cost of home charging I guess Norway should be cheaper than the rest as you produce a lot of hydro power from your dams
As far as avoiding reruns goes, how do you consider doing them Bjørn when a new revision or a significant update of a car comes out?
A major update is coming this year for the e-208 with a more efficient powertrain and a slightly bigger battery, both borrowed from the upcoming e-308. I'd like to see that one once you can get your hands on the 2023 refresh 😉 (and the 308 too!)
As for the old result, I have a Peugeot e-208 (2020), but updated SW and my estimate is I should do 1000km in 11:55. Your 1000km test of 208 at 12:30 is rather old and was done before they significantly updated the charging curve (100kW lasts till 35%, before only to 18%, the high end is much improved too - you even did a comparison video with updated e-C4). And that old 208 test was also done with some slow legs and not as good charging infrastructure as we have now. I'm sure with the current charge curve together with the new revision, which is supposed to have a better suited gear ratio, it should be doable below 11:45. And the 2023 refresh even faster than that. Although I must say, you squeezed out an impressive result with the old charge curve by going deep! 😀
I second this, I get much better results in my 2023 E-208. ABRP indicates 169 wh/km calibrated but I often see it go as low as 145 on 30 min + drives on cruise control.
Bjron your the boss.
Thank you, Peetr.
Why can’t they put charging ports on both sides or behind the rear number plate
Yeah it’s a nice looking car.
19:10 Bill Lumbergh - who are you? brilliant :)
1) BMW bring out a car with freaking charching speed for the charching speed measures on the comercial on the paper but get some rapid gating.
2) BMW change the charching speed to get rid of the rapid gate but also did not correct the charching speed times.....
*charging speed
Hmm… now that you were talking about space in a car, maybe a trolley child seat video of the original i3 would be interesting in comparison to this car…
For the record it was charing @ 205 kw when i commented the charging speed 🙄🙈
Do you keep track of the total time spent at the chargers? Seems like that would be valuable, assuming the charging session went as normal?
No
@@bjornnyland why not?
@@Legotechs true
Hello Bjorn,
When do you plan to do a 1000 km challenge with renault Megane e-tech electric?
Once I get the car.
I have a new i4 and I get the same low charging speeds above 60% even when it was 20-25 degrees
Me too
Low coolant is a symptom, why is it low ? A leakage?
The air temp reduction of 10 degrees Celsius would cause a 3% increase in drag force
mega tune @ 03:00
One big thing i have wonderd, in the true north we love mounting external head lamps, Volvo is very simple around that with a softwere uppgrade, but how is BMW and other car makers with that on there EV cars?
We are waiting the Megane E-tech test ;) and the MG4 :) This i4 is way too expensive for average people, and you have sufficiently tested it.
Please move on...
Also waiting for Megane E tech. I heard the car is really solid. But only Bjorn can put it under pressure and beat real data from it so lets see :).
Look at his schedule the Megane is coming up
@@Dutchforces1 would you happen to know where I can find that?
So.... it got colder. And it didn't overheat. Doesn't make a difference in confidence for next summer.
Sorry but for me its not a reliable test as temperatures droped by from 25°c to 5-10°c, you better wait next summer to do a test, what i see here its a battery who suffer from hot in summer and from cold in winter, because of bad engineering and R&D
ABC = Always Bring Consumables! (You know, snack foods.)
11:54 is that supposed to be hiding the speed lol 😂
BMW Björn 🤣
Test bmw IX1 ?
Yes
Alternatively:legacy auto maker error - LAME. 😏
If you hate it (which is true) - pick it up and throw it in the bucket.
Deducting time for charging issues is wrong.
Nope, it's correct.
@@bjornnyland So if the car is responsible for handshake issues it gets away with it? How is this fair on car with no handshake issue?
@@73hennyIt may be the charger that is responsible for the handshake issue and even if it is a problem with the car you can't reliably reproduce it so it isn't very scientific for comparisons.
Charging stations really need toilets ;).
I know it's small -👍😂😂😂
Can you stream movies whilst charging? Watch Netflix?
People may say it looks like a beaver, but everybody loves beavers 😄
How can this car consume more than a Tesla model Y Performance? That’s incredibly inefficient.
I4 - Foot print of a Model S with interior smaller than a Model 3
Well it has more HP than a Model Y, weighs more, and a big unaerodynamic grill.. so whats so surprising? I was actually more amazed it did the trip just as quickly as the Model Y, even in cooler temps. Heater usage really kills BMW efficiency. Oh, and it finished the 1000km just as quickly as the Model Y.
Big difference between rwd and awd. Legacy autos
The update has probably slowed the charging rates to address the overheating issue. Lower power in means less heat generated in the battery which means less demand on the cooling system which means they under designed it in the first place and have to trim the charging speeds to suit. And people think Tesla uses its customers for testing purposes…you just witnessed BMW do it. If the car was originally running lower coolant the dash would have lit up like a Christmas tree. Anyone who has ever owned a modern BMW will tell you they warn you about everything.
Will you do a 1000km challange with a Model Y RWD?
Low coolant, premium brand ....
....mediocre QC.
Nein nein nein nein!
So far in Norway are you expecting any power shortages this coming winter? It is funny or not in California you probably heard they asked electric car drivers not to charge because of heat related power outages. The infer structure just isn’t there yet.
Not to charge between 4pm and 9pm… facts matter
We're not expecting shortages, but the price of the electricity has skyrocketed.
@@davedave1398 Yes and it was for a week in the middle of a unprecedented heatwave that caused electricity consumption to shatter all records -52000 mw versus 50.000 mw way back in 2006.

@@bjornnyland I drov the non M Version for 3 days and it go down to 16 kw/w. while he roll an recup, if it must on the highway. Test it, if you get it on an another Day.
I thought BMWs didn’t have any problems, that’s why people chose them over Teslas. Interesting…
Tesla Model 3 and Y has less issues than latest EV from BMW.
So what you are saying that the likelyhood of getting a broken BMW i4 is quite high and it seems safe to assume that getting it fixed or replaced is a bit harder if you are not a famous UA-camr.
Got it.
BMW is BMW and reliability is as bad as it has been for 15+ years..
(Also drastically colder outside temperatures, so who knows..)
Hey Bjorn your realise your mispronouncing BMW but you're probably doing it on purpose trolling us. Its not ' bee m vee' its 'bee m double u' .. you may mention it in your next video it will be quite hilarious.. and also mention my pseudonym Mr Richard Head 😂🤣😂
Nice music by the way.
It's "bee m vee" in non-english languages. Also, why is it that V is "vee" but if you put two V's together (VV or W) then suddenly it becomes two U's (double U) in English? Such a weird and quirky language. 🙃
Watch and learn:
ua-cam.com/video/mG7GBGcABYQ/v-deo.html
"According to the automaker, the correct way to pronounce BMW is “Bee-em-vee” - not “Bee-em-double-you.” In German language, “w” is pronounced as “vee.”
