Good to know about the Penrite oil. I use Penrite motorcycle model but it's more expensive so good to know the one in video is suitable. Shame I saw this, Penrite was 25% at Repco (Australia) up until a few days ago
I just replaced the circlip, there was also heavy pitting on 3rd and 5th gears which I replaced also. Unsure on that, when I was looking online when mine failed it was mostly 2017s with the issue? I would recommend fitting a magnetic drain plug and check it every oil change. I have done 30,000kms since this and have had no issues. ( Had just under 10k when faulted )
May i ask what skid plate do u have its looks simple to install thanks sir im trying to see where the 2 front alin bolts are on my bike I see the ones on the back
It came on the bike when I bought it so I didn't do the initial install. However I have removed the mounts when taking the engine out. The lower engine bolt would need to come right out. Which isn't bad you may have to support the engine and pull the bolt out fit the mounts and reinstall.
Just curious what octane gas u run in ur bike I just got a 2021 dr 650 just put 300 miles on it like ur video simple and to the point keep up good work thanks
@@MOTODANS thanks man this is my first dual sport im 50 and used to race when I was young I just love this bike so much I almost got a klr but I think the dr is better for what I wanted to do ill keep folling u bro
Cheers Cameron! They don't come with the filter but local dealer would also stock them. I'm sure any hardware shop would also stock them. I bought a hundred of them ages ago online. Been the same size for the past few bikes I have owned making my way through them.
Bought them years ago. Use them in all my vehicles. Drained my oil at the start of the year and there was a piece of circlip stuck to my magnetic drain plug. It was a part of the circlip that holds third driven gear on.

Good job Dan, very informative.
Thanks! 👍
Great video , just curious as to why you had to rebuild your engine though ?
Broken circlip that holds 3rd gear onto its shaft. A manufacturer defect quite common on this year model
Thanks for getting back to me I appreciate it . When you rebuilt it what did you do to rectify the issue ?
And Is this still common on the new DR’s ?

B&B off road skid plate. I do believe the front mounts come with the skid plate and attach on the front engine mount.
@@MOTODANS o ok nice is it pretty easy to install

Enjoy the bike!
Great vid, love the dr, so simple. Can you buy the crush washer from any hardware store or do they come with the filter?

Did you find the penrite oil helped with smoother changes? My dr is still quite new (3500km) and its very clunky shifting.
@@gothegravel Hard to say I don't find my Dr very clunky. What oil are you currently using? Did you have the 1000km service done?
Thanks !
Thanks for watching Dave
what size and where did u buy your magnetic drain plug?
