Hey, I just bought a DR650 and I’m wondering if you’re thinking of replacing the headlight to a Baja double round headlight. It looks really cool.

Good advice , I will add all that stuff to my list . Bought a 2019 DR650 and just took it in for the new bike inspection and service . Picking it up in a couple hours . Curious about the seat you have . I was talked into getting a Suzuki gel seat and it is far worse than the stock seat . I noticed that it was a bit wider as it moves toward the tank . It not only was harder it was too wide in the sitting position so as to push on my leg sockets , very uncomfortable . That reminds me I need to return it and see what they can do for me . Can't forget to bring it today .

Good stuff mate! I also now have a 2019 like you because of circumstances back in 2017. So I am currently modding my 2019. I've made some videos on that if you care to see. Only a few things I would change. The seat I had was good I liked it personally. I'm 5"11 / 180cm if that helps you decide. I wouldnt bother with the led flood lights I put on my 2017. Didnt make much difference.

So far I added a lithium battery Thumper Jockey pod lights LED taillight . Also bought a DOT LED headlight and some JIS tools Motion Pro air chuck a new 150 psi compressor some Klein tools a battery tender Clymer DR650 maintenance book oh and B&B bash plates case guards . Need a few other things but I need to slow the mods down a bit . Put a deposit on the new Tenere 700 and can't wait until it gets here in Northern California around June they said . Then down the road a year or 2 I will get the new Africa Twin standard version with DCT . Sat on a new 2018 Twin at the dealership and they are tempting me with it at 12,000 but for 3,000 more you get a better version of a great bike so unless they take 10,000 I won't even think about it . Nah that would be gluttonous . I want to see what the Tenere is all about and also wait to see what type of new Tenere is in the works , I think it's probably a rally version but I don't know .

Thanks . Looks like end of June for the Tenere . Watching videos of all you guys in Australia riding Dual Sport bikes got me back to thinking about getting a motorcycle . Was looking at the DRZ in 2012 or so but put that money into my business instead . Now I can afford somethings for myself . My dream adventure is to ride your Hwy 1 all they way around Australia with plenty of excursions along the way . Won't be cheap but I have to make it work . Just don't know what bike I would bring .

We are not allowed to wash cars or bikes in Bathurst due to water restrictions. (we are even supposed to only clean the windshield at a garage.
I don't like using the wash bay with the powerful guns on the bikes, so I use the Waterless Car Wash. RainX is the best, but hard to get. Great on the bikes.
You bike is a credit to you, amazing.
I had a Suzuki GS650G in the late 80s. I used it to ride to work every day, 60Kms each way from outer Western Sydney to the Eastern Suburbs, hell of a ride.
When I bough the bike the salesman said "Ignore the manual, change the engine oil every three thousand kilometers and the gearbox and diff oils every second oil change and it will last forever."
I did that and clocked up 200,000kms on the bike and sold it to a workmate. I transferred to another prison and after four years, I returned to relieve the 2IC that had taken ill. As I pulled into my parking spot I saw my old bike parked outside the kitchen where my old workmate now worked. Still going strong.

even tho the front sprocket rotates faster, the rear will wear out first as the front is usually forged and the rear sprocket is not. I went through about 2 rear sprockets before I had to replace my front one. cheers from West Coast nz :)

Couldn't agree more re no need for full synthetic oil. It's old school tech FFS. Everything I've ever read about oil use - without exception - tells me that using expensive oil is just wasting money and falling into the trap of believing marketing gurus writing bullshit. BUT I will always advocate using oil to the minimum specs stated by the manufacturer. And hey, I waste plenty of money maintaining my boat, because when that fails mechanically it could be fatal - even bad oil only kills engines. And we all like to pamper our babies whether bikes or boats and high spec oil in my view is no problem, just a waste of money when I reckon the mighty DR would be better served by spending as much as is financially possible on useless heavy farkles!!!
Another great vid thanks mate and I'll order some tyre shine and use it on my boat too - silicon can't do much harm...

    • @NzJohny
      @NzJohny  3 роки тому

Good stuff mate! Yeah the dr has some pretty forgiving tolerances so I would definitely agree. It's very much a psychological thing. As for boats. Yeah the take alot of care that's for sure. Especially if its spends time in the ocean. Thanks for watching.

Great tips. I can't wait to get my DR.
Is the manual something that comes with it? Or is there a comprehensive aftermarket manual I should be looking for?
I want to have things like that and the relevant tools before I get the bike. Any tips would be great. Cheers!

Thanks man :) i like the windshield. The wind hits me right at the neck so my helmet Is still in the open but my chest is saved. I am 180cm / 5"11 if that helps some. Plus i am slightly lower down with the lowered seat. You can mount the shield up or down depending on where you drill the holes. Also many color options. Ausy made. Id buy another. Hope that helps. No buffeting
