So technically, the term back pressure is wrong but also right! A small obstruction that does not increase back pressure will produce more torque and horsepower in mid and high rpm ranges on any 4 cycle engine. The Reason? Valve overlap. Hey guys, great video! I have a question is it bad if you wrap a baffle TOO much ? I did mine to reduce noise as much as possible, but the air has to pass through the wool now, there is no clear path for the air too take. Could it cause too much backpressure ?
yep there can be to much so look out for stuff like this The classic symptoms of too much backpressure include things like a lack of high speed power, poor fuel economy and even overheating. Anything that backs up exhaust pressure into the engine will also back up heat.
@@DennisKirk Thank you! I'm also having some backfires when engaging the clutch when passing gears.. doesn't that indicate too low backpressure on the opposite ?

You're technically not wrong. Basically a baffle is a muffler, just without a case. All three of the designs show here are pretty much what glasspack mufflers for cars have looked like in the inside throughout the years. The last one with louvers inside is very old school, like 50's and 60's style, while the one with fiberglass around it is essentially the same design as a straight through muffler you can buy today from Magnaflow or Borla. The middle one looks like the inside of a cheap homemade suppressor. While that design doesn't work very well for that application, it works pretty well for a muffler baffle insert

As mentioned, they fit perfect, quality is excellent. Only issue is they are for our traffic laws a bit too noisy. Since I can look completely through the slip ons, I was wondering, whether they are quiet baffles available for that slip ons as well (as they are for most COBRAS and V&H) etc). My order number was DK120-0813-404-3915819 Thanks for helping 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
So I asked around and you seem to have gotten an exhaust pipe that we do not have a DB killer for as the name of the pipe suggested its a neighbor hater for a reason. I am sorry you can always try one of the DB killers on here BUT SIZE IS HIT AND MISS as it's not specifically for your pipe. www.denniskirk.com/search/cobra+nh+baffle.q
a little back pressure is a good thing. The right size pipe is large enough to breathe well but small enough to create a high exhaust flow. Steps in the exhaust system also create negative pressure waves that travel back to the cylinder and help empty the cylinder of those gases.
@@DennisKirk Why do you believe back pressure is good but then describes scavenging and negative pressure which is the opposite of backpressure. I'm tired of hearing this old wives tale when the proof is literally everywhere.
Back pressure is used to broaden the power band. Open exhaust or baffling does not change how much horsepower an engine will produce. That is just front bar bs.
How can you expect someone to like your video before even watching it? Whats the logic behind it and what if I don't like it? At least, you got me to write a comment. You're welcome.
Loud pipes DO NOT SAVE LIVES. Nope, not true. fact: just because they can hear you, does not mean they see you.... not to mention that your hearing is going to be gone sooner than later.
The only thing that hurts my ears, is listening to guys like you using a harley as an example, when in reality so many Japanese bikes make more noise when you get on them, how about power robing db reducers ,like the last one you showed, anything would be quiet it you restrict that much, right.
Great perspective, Richard. We feel that this got the point across regardless of the bike used, but maybe we can do a more metric centric example in the future? Stay tuned.
Loud =/= safe. Maybe when the best gear was leather jackets and when cars were full metal. Modern cars with modern families aren't going completely notice your sawed hog screamin because why would they? They got music, audiobooks, tv shows >:(, people they're talking to. "Just be" a better rider that's aware that everyone is never looking,
Demonstrated a baffle, not these particular baffles Perhaps you missed the point of the video baffles will do the same thing They muffle the DB levels. Large baffles are quieter than little baffles.

@@sammspeed okay what is the year, make, model of your bike what exhaust do you have on right now? model number is needed
Dennis Kirk, Inc. , Hi 👋 the bike is a 2018 HD (M8) lowrider. I installed the COBRA slip ons from you, ordered according to the model list in your webpage.
My order number was DK120-0813-404-3915819
Thanks for helping 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
So I asked around and you seem to have gotten an exhaust pipe that we do not have a DB killer for as the name of the pipe suggested its a neighbor hater for a reason. I am sorry you can always try one of the DB killers on here BUT SIZE IS HIT AND MISS as it's not specifically for your pipe. www.denniskirk.com/search/cobra+nh+baffle.q
Back pressure never equals horsepower. Wny propagate myths?
a little back pressure is a good thing.
@@madeleyinc please never repeat that utter garbage lie ever again.
@@DennisKirk back pressure is never a good thing. Scavenging is
How do you turn subtitles off its annoying
Thank you
The most nasely explenation ever! Great thank you :)
Black one is 3 inch baffles
Whoever did that study on the decibels it's probably a single man cuz my woman is louder than the bike when she's mad
LOL
@@DennisKirk thank
If you fit a loud exhaust on a Japanese V twin it sounds a bit like a Harley if you don't know anything about bikes.
Touching fibreglass with bare hands big brain time 😂😂😂😂😂
How can you expect someone to like your video before even watching it? Whats the logic behind it and what if I don't like it? At least, you got me to write a comment. You're welcome.
Thanks!
Wow👌
nice video..
Wow Harley's are quiet. My Suzuki RF900 is 105 at idle lol been looking for this for years!
I'm so baffled.
👍👍
🙏
Very baffling!!🤣
This is a very baffiling subject
Smashing like button will harm my phone screen.
HAHAHA
0 is a bad representation should be ♾️
My bike runs at 115dB with a muffler😂
80 decibal sound baffle dbkiller name
You shouldn't touch ceramic or fiberglass packing with your bare hand...
Comment.
😆 how loud is to loud.....never loud enough..
I like Dennis Kirk a lot. Our customs, DHS etc... not so much.
DB Killer
Loud pipes DO NOT SAVE LIVES. Nope, not true. fact: just because they can hear you, does not mean they see you.... not to mention that your hearing is going to be gone sooner than later.

You get it!
straight pipes sounds better, just wear phone earplugs 100% guarantee hahahahaha
I am getting this because i ride a scooter in my neighborhood at night. and don't want to be disturbing people, riding up and down the streets
Dang good neighbor right here!
Very informative but no helpful ways of packing or fitting 🙄😕
Thank you for the feedback, Adrian! We'll remember that for next time.
Spit on it, slap its ass, degrade it, then slide it in. Easy.
Stay tuned.
@@DennisKirk i will, always into testing. It's the only way to get it right.
I would be curious to see if a chambered silencer would work in this application, such as 69 camaro z-28 chambered exhaust.
Loud pipes saves lives .
Blah bla bla till 2:15, skip for what u really wanna hear. Annnnoying
Thank you for watching! Did you find what you were looking for after the 2:15 mark?
@@DennisKirkYeah, it was baffling....
hmmmm it's baffling...
nice ;)
Backpressure isn't a thing. It's a made up term. Engines need scavenging and velocity and need less reversion.
@ 2min... and you are causing damage to innocent bystanders ears as well.
Back pressure does NOT add longevity to your engine! This is BS!
A lack of proper (at least some) backpressure will result in valve damage pretty quickly.
Loud =/= safe.
Maybe when the best gear was leather jackets and when cars were full metal. Modern cars with modern families aren't going completely notice your sawed hog screamin because why would they? They got music, audiobooks, tv shows >:(, people they're talking to.
"Just be" a better rider that's aware that everyone is never looking,
good advice!
Three baffles, one demo. Which one? Sorry, thumbed down. Do it again and do it right.
Demonstrated a baffle, not these particular baffles Perhaps you missed the point of the video baffles will do the same thing They muffle the DB levels. Large baffles are quieter than little baffles.
@@DennisKirk ok, I see. So the baffles in the video had nothing to do with the point of video, as you said. Uh huh.
@@JerryWDaviscom it has everything to do with the video as we showed you the difference between the baffled AND non-baffled system for questions and help you can call or helpline 800 969 7501
