About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

This whole album is just tune after tune after tune! One of the best bands ever
Modern Life Is Rubbish I agree this is one of the bands ever
Gorillaz is also one of the bands ever
@@zooso3785 That band called The Band are one of the bands for sure.
aren't they all?
I had bought "Leisure" when it came out since I was a Madchester fan. Imagine my surprise as soon as the opening chords of "For Tomorrow" came across my stereo. I listened to it non stop until my wife threatened to destroy the CD. Colin Zeal maybe my favourite song on the album.
this song is so good and so underrated
listen to Sleeping Gas by Teardrop Explodes if you like this..
Dat bassline
Blurillaz23 Alex is real talented
@djm151071 butt hurt.
@djm151071 I was just kidding lol
to this day I still cant understand how he does that
This has to be my favorite among Damon's 'character songs.' Clever lyrically, funky bassline too.
Possibly influenced by Simple Minds _Hunter and the Hunted_
@@vikingfortiesfaeroesinfluenced lyrically or musically?
Some say that _Sleeping Gas_ by *Teardrop Explodes* in 1979 has a similar (influential?) style - at least if you compare the way in which part of the later Blur song is sung.
@@_misterben
The bassline. It's blatantly obvious that the vocal melody and rhythm were lifted from _Sleeping Gas_
@@vikingfortiesfaeroes ...lol. And the next track is _"Pressure on Julian"_ , a (cough) *blatant* reference to Mr Cope of the Teardrops.
That solo at 2:06 is my favorite part of this whole album...
Graham Coxon my favorite guitarist of this era
I bought this album for $1 at a used bookstore... best thing I have purchased for so little money
Omg where?

Lyrics:
Colin Zeal knows the value of mass appeal
He's a pedestrian walker, he's a civil talker
He's an affable man with a plausible plan
Keeps his eye on the news, keeps his future in hand
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah ha
While sitting in traffic, Colin thinks in automatic
He's an immaculate dresser, he's your common aggressor
Colin's the modern retard with a love of bombast
Keeps his eye on the news, doesn't dwells on the past
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah ha
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah ha
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah ha
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah ha
(He's a modern retard, he's terminal lard
He's an affable man, with a carrotene tan
Because Colin Zeal's ill
Colin Zeal's ill
Colin Zeal's ill)
'Cause Colin Zeal knows
I'm ready.
Are they talking about Boris Johnson?
You forgot the "And then he" before the "Looks at his watch" part of the chorus.
I love this song so fucking much.
This song matches the album cover perfectly. The song just sounds like a train chugging somehow.
Sir Snout Totally agree! Always thought that too
Sir Snout, true, dat bass line is so good
Sir Snout I think that intermission sounds more like a trian, speeding up and eventually derailing.
Probably because of the chugging bass line.
Cant believe this song only has 1000 visits, its deserves a lot more
Right?? it's my favorite.
Man, Blur rocks! I hope that they can play in the States!
+Holly Houston Just saw them...really really really close too! :)

Thank you blur for some of the best times of my life with my mates listening to your music which started back in 99. The 90s was the new 60s and you were and still are the kings of the music world. Colin Zeal is one of the best songs of all time by the greatest and coolest band of all time. The energy and charisma that all four of you possess is phenomenal. Graham’s guitar riff/solo is out of this world with Damon’s superb vocals, just sheer perfection. I’ve been listening to your music nearly everyday for 20 years and I will continue to do so until the day I die. Theme From an Imaginary Film, Chemical World, Song 2, Villa Rosie, Girls and Boys, Threadneedle Street, Trimm Trabb, Coffee and TV, Moving On, Out of Time, He Thought of Cars, Mace, Beetlebum, For Tomorrow, Bugman, Swamp Song, Trouble in the Message Centre, Miss America, Sing, Strange News From Another Star, Universal, 1992, Magic America, Look inside America, Battle, Stereotypes, Charmless Man, Mellow Song, Entertain Me, End of a Century are in my list of the greatest songs of all time. Of course there’s many other blur songs to name but this comment would end up being a couple of pages long! The only problem at blur gigs was that you’ve got too many good songs and there’s not enough time to squeeze it all in. I salute all four of you (Damon is my favourite, but I love you all) and I hope and pray that you’ll perform again not too long in the future. I wish all four of you best wishes and positive energy. You’re the greatest and always will be. There’s been no other band that has been as diverse as blur and which has evolved and kept on progressing and changing with every album different. God bless.
A masterpiece of an album
Been a devout Blur fan since ‘08-significantly well past the band’s establishment, of course, but nonetheless-and this has become a favorite of their tracks. Love Modern Life and early Blur (among the rest of their phases).
better late than never.
bluebootlegbeats in 2008 i was 7 years old lol
This is my favorite song on this album.
Jennifer Konstant What about "Miss America"?
30years been listening to this album, unbelievable Jeff
I really don’t know why this video has only few likes, it deserves all the likes in the world!
only on my 3rd or 4th listen of Modern Life.. great album and this song is now one my Blur favourites...
My favorite track of the best Blur album... "Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again...He's pleased with himself haahahaa"
i think he says " he's pleased with himself" .d
hehuheu pff
U
Yep absolutely, my mistake...
Yeah that chorus cracks me up
Colin Zeal then gave birth to the Charmless Man
Patrick Grant I think Colin Zeal is the charmless man. Except maybe less of a Dickhead
I like to think Colin Zeal is the same city dweller, successful fella, who thought to himself "Oops, I've got a lot of money," and decided to try the simple life and live in a very big house in the country.
K-leb my theory is that Colin works for charmless man
Why is everybody in the comments talking about me?
ColinZeal funny man, ha, I did a laugh
Are you pleased with yourself?
Shiii wassup colin its bradley from the gc I forced you into 😳
How old are you?

God....Blur is amazing
This song hit me right away when I first heard Modern Life in ‘93. It’s in my Blur top 5.
They’d be rock gods if they just made this album
What a band.
The vocals on the verse sound like “sleeping gas” of teardrop expolodes
Seth Rollins for WWE Universal Champion
i do agree this is one of the bands ever
Couldn't agree more. One of the bands ever. You tell them Brasov!
truly, without hesitation i can say
this is a band that existed
They're one of those bands that ever were, for sure.
Well, I think, everybody here will agree, that this band have actually ever existed
Damon Albarn is a very clever and awesome muscian and the other band members of blur are also awesome
Still my fav Blur album
Fantastic song I remember this record I was 7 when this record came out and all them years later I still love it 🔥❤️🔥
あらためて彼らの音が大好きな自分に気づく。合わせて、90年台UKロックのおかげで今の自分があるとも言える。けっして懐古主義ではなく、良いものはまぎれもなく良い。
I liked this album so much. It borrowed a lot from great bands like XTC, Teardrops Explodes and The Kinks, but in a way it's their more natural sounding album to me.
Woahhh, this song is amazing!!!
For some reason the guitar riff from 0:15 to 0:30 reminds me of a different song that I can’t think of. The song it reminds me of Was from the 90s or early 2000s, and it might’ve appeared on a commercial Sometime during the 0s.
Im almost certain its the same guitar rift used in the start of Flight of the Conchords, just in a different tuning
Thank you kind person.
I was actually talking about the guitar riff that only appears a couple times in the song, and is in the left track for the most part. The second time it appears is from 1:11 to 1:18, and then I think that’s the last time it appears.
Sorry I couldn’t describe the one I was referring to more clearly, and sorry if I still didn’t do a good job this time.
@@MLIR-13while recognising it's by no means a *perfect* match, if you go 27 or so seconds into Billy Squier's _The Stroke_ you *might* recognise a broadly similar (what I technically term a) "twiddly bit" ;)
Replying to self, I appreciate that @user-hk5zt7bt5i might have been talking about another "twiddly bit" entirely 🤷♂️😉🙏🏻
Thank you Ben C. I could hear what you were talking about. Did you read my reply to Hank Williams? I am actually referring to a different guitar riff that only shows up a couple times in the song. But thank you for the help. It’s very interesting that you allowed me to hear that as well.
Esta canción es un collage casi perfecto, me hace acordar a muchas otras.
been looking for this song
this a goldddd
Sounds like the Inspiral Carpets.... I love it! 😍
sick dude. so jealous.
Easily one of their best tracks, alongside London Loves.

"Who's Married To Colin Zeal?"
Noodles this is an excellent comment
Listen to this after The Teardrop Explodes "Sleeping Gas" and you'll see...
Damon was probably just taking the mickey at David Balfe, the band's record label executive and former member of The Teardrop Explodes.
Sometimes I wonder if you’re really living…
And then he........
Colin's Ill
[Verse 1]
Colin Zeal knows the value of mass appeal

He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah-ha

While sitting in traffic, Colin thinks in automatic
He's an immaculate dresser, he's your common aggressor

[Chorus]
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah-ha
He's pleased with himself, he's pleased with himself
He's so pleased with himself, ah-ha
And then he
[Chorus]
Looks at his watch, he's on time yet again

He's an affable man with a carotene tan
'Cause Colin Zeal's ill, Colin Zeal's ill, Colin Zeal's ill
He's Colin Zeal and he knows

Modern life is Rubbish😂😁👍👍🕺🕺🎼thts true
He's pissing himself, he's pissing himsseeeelf.
This is a joke.
Thanks for ruining it for me
I like to think Damon's singing "He's pleasing himself."
As in, Colin Zeal loves to have a bit of a wank over how perfect he thinks he is.
I genuinely thought that was the chorus
