This is a four stroke diesel engine. In marine engine it has large stroke length . Its valves are working on the basis of hydraulic. By giving large stroke length they get more torque. In marine engine the power generated by the engine is directly transmitted to the propeller their is no gear mechanism b/w them. In ships the propeller will run in lower RPM it get efficient power to move. If the propeller will run in high RPM it just agitates the water only. Here torque is is high due to stroke length. So the torque is high so the propeller will run in low speer about 300 Rpm.👍
I can't comment regarding commercial marine diesels, but sadly, i think you'll find that, for pleasure craft, at least, the classic long-stroke engines are fighting a losing battle for market share in much of the world against a flood of marinised industrial short stroke engines from manufacturers/rebuilders such as Yanmar, Beta, Sole, Nanni just to name a few. These makes are using Japanese base engines intended for tractors, excavators and other such machinery. I just re-engined my boat, and the fantastic sound of a Sabb or similar long stroke diesel would have suited it perfectly, being a Finnish designed boat built under licence in Australia. But for practical reasons I went with a Beta, (Kubota based).
Not all the fuel goes to the cylinder,the injector pump fills a huge quantity, to injectors,,and the excess fuel go to the fuel tank.all the diesel injectors have a return
Not fake. My marine diesel engine works pretty much like this. Yanmar, Beta, Nanni, Sole - marine conversions of 4-stroke diesel industrial or agricultural engines.
Diesel is ignited by the heat caused by compression, Diesel fuel injectors (not spark plug) spray a finer, more measured amount of fuel just before compression reaches ignition temperature. This gives you better economy and better burning/ more power.
