I've been in a plant when a Turbine "Trips" as they say ! It immediately lets off an ungodly amount of steam making the loudest noise you've ever heard ! It's a roaring sound of 100 Locomotives ! Scares the bejeezus out of you ! It's amazing ! I worked at the old Boston Edison (Mystic Station) in Everett, Ma Its a literal history of progression from the first 3 units that were no longer in service that were built in the early 1900's , then units #4, 5. ,&6 built i believe in the 40's Then unit #7 built in the 70's which when I worked there was the largest producing 750 mega watts. Seeing how they got bigger and bigger as time progressed was amazing. Of course Now the have 2 newer units that are gas turbines as natural gas is abundant. The first units were coal fired, then they went to oil and finally in the 90' completely to natural gas. The progression and size of the boilers is incredible though, the bigger boilers are the size of buildings, as an example unit 7 was about 7 or 8 stories high ,! Just mind boggling !

Thank you for this, TSSA books make it so confusing with so many names like nozzles, buckets, blades for the same parts. You do say that blades and nozzles are the same on the stationary parts which isn't the case ?
