She is so right, we need a better social system as a secular community. We need to get over the lone wolf crap. Lone wolfs die alone, our movement goes no where if we don't ban together. And most importantly speak out. Wear a t-shirt that says "Atheist" or some other slogan that lets people know you are an atheist. T-shirts are the best; they are like a walking billboard. and talk to your friends about their ideas and beliefs.
We need to do more than live without a belief in God. We need to stand up against religious bullies who tell others that "they are going to hell" as if they had any evidence that were true. We need to teach all children, not just our own, the difference between reason (what is true) and faith (what is myth). We need to point out daily that the consequences of religion are not beneficial to human society. We need to have a place where everyone can see that none of us know nearly enough.
Atheists are working in every way, every day to make a better world. Religions play no part in most lives. People just get on with living an honest life.
I'm an atheist in respect to all the gods on offer by all the religions, for as those deities are defined, their attributes are observable & demonstrably nonexistent.
I'm not out yet. I'm afraid that I will lose contact with my little nephew. He is being indoctrinated from birth in the church and I want to be a balancing influence in his life. I'm going to come out, but I want to do it the best way I can.
it doesn't have to be only about "atheism" it could be about reason, and skeptical thinking and the scientific method. If atheists can't learn to wrk together toward common goals, then we're screwed, while the side that is the most organized wins.
I agree! Separation of church and state! Get government out of marriage! Marriage is a religious concept. We all should live under domestic partnerships if we desire a partnership. Marriage if desired should be preformed by the religious organizations and recognized by them alone. Let them bicker among themselves what they recognize or not. This should NEVER be a political issue. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE!
I'm a 22 year old atheist of "color." While I'd like to think that white atheists (they're the majority) would be accepting of me, I still don't think they would be exactly comfortable with me or accepting. I hope I'm wrong. I'm introverted, and live in the bible belt. The largest atheist group (actually quite small) in my city mostly consists of people over 35. I've never attended, but in the site I see that usually only around 10 people (mostly middle age white men) attend these meetings.
I lean towards contracts, not necessarily "marriage" perhaps government should but out of "marriages"... If a bunch of people want to get together, and be in a contract that states that if you sleep with anyone outside of that polygamous marriage, you forfeit half your shit to the rest of the group, that is really up to the individuals involved.
I think Atheists need to avoid prosthelatizing, but simply offer a support group and help maintain and protect the rights of disbelief is society. They work well to keep junk thinking out of the classroom and maintain a higher standard in education. Some people are better off with religion, and some are not.
Sure, a community where you get together once a month or so and talk about relevant topics would be alright... HOWEVER, how could you get the religious to consistently go? That's where I think a class, again, like Yoga, with a heavy concentrated amount of atheists, but no talks of skepticism or reason. Just yoga, or the skill that is hapepning. You could advertise the passive class in the meetings that you do talk about reasons, science etc. to ensure a high amount of atheists..
Yeah, but @richarddawkinsdotnet, could you maybe change this video's thumbnail?(I mean the small one you see on the channel page.)It seriously makes her look like Ann Coulter, and it's just kinda...erm...weird...tho dear fucking god, would _THAT_ not make a rather HIGH-LARIOUS debate! lol
A good social group would be great! I think that is where I think something like YOGA, or the martial arts could come in.. Where you all share goals, and work towards those goals. I wouldn't want to make atheism a center point though, it would be more of a oppurtunity anyone can come, and if it is a good enough social group, perhaps some wouldn't feel the need for church as much
Hate to say this. If the republicans win this election? I might think about moving to Canada. You think Iran is bad with the ayatollah. Try a mormon business man who has never created value for society and the tea party who dont know that Canada is not part of the US. I won't take up much space. You can even put me up in the northern territories. Although I do posses very good technical skills in both electronics and computers. I love to contribute to the advancement of society as well. Thx
-Respects a woman's right to choose. -want's drugs/marijuana legalized -wants prostitution to be legal -want's gays to be treated equally -want's gamblign to remain legal -don't value freedom :P
I wouldn't awnt a social community that rests on atheism, perhaps a off shoot of a larger community like yoga, where conversations naturally happen, and you will wind up wanting to spend more time with like minded people. But I would rather not be a part of a community that makes a point of getting togetehr every x day, specifically under the banner atheism... I would get together with libertarians before then :P
King Sparky that is not an Atheist argument just fact if you believe in God why would you need insurance? Insurance companies hedge their bets by adding Acts-of-God clauses to not pay out Policies same weasel arguments!
+kassop what kind of god makes a hell? Jews have no hell... Jesus brought the hell. What kind of christian looks forward to hearing me cry? Do you realize that when you do this to me, you do this to Jesus?
+kassop ''remind me, I've must of missed it'' You need to be reminded that Jesus is god and that god created everything? Together with all the rules? Did you miss the part when he says ''I am the only way...'' You've missed the whole point of christianity? Accept Jesus or else....
I agree ! SO please support us and help us catch up to where you are in Europe ! WE NEED YOU !
Black atheists came up with one of the greatest phrases - 'just as my ancestors are free of slavery, so am I free of the slavery of religion'

Jefff23...i'm a white atheist and don't have a problem with people with color in fact glad you are with us !

Yes! Please, someone try my state. It's getting scary down here!
Google "We are Atheism" if you are interested in sharing your "coming out" story. It's a great site that just partnered with the Out Campaign.
I'm on board. :))
Dr. Cornwell is very Brave : a business woman outing herself as an Atheist in the US probably gets a hard time...

I am an Atheist in Kansas City.
I can agree to that.
I think Atheists need to avoid prosthelatizing, but simply offer a support group and help maintain and protect the rights of disbelief is society. They work well to keep junk thinking out of the classroom and maintain a higher standard in education.
Some people are better off with religion, and some are not.
What if we support and empower the women enough so that we not only organically move toward secularism, but also eliminate poverty as well?
i wish i could be there to speech as i m already struck by agnosticism.....i found lil bit laps in Mr Dawkin approach towards atheism
I'd wear the "A", but I don't want to get confused for Hester Prynne.
What is she asking we do on our Facebook?

Questions: How many years should a person search for God before he/she "knows" there isn't one?
Answer: Ludicrous.
Color ? Green, Blue with or without pink spots ?
Thank God, I'm an atheist
You Americans are a century behind us Europeans. RULE BRITANNIA! BRITANNIA RULES THE WAVES! Atheism yes!
I guess the Atheist+ organisation decided to come out too! Out of the RDF
Leaving Christianity is a good thing.
And what about life before insurance companies?
Own the term atheist? yes I don't believe in religion or a God.
Jesus was actually a yeast. He rose after being covered in cloth and stored in a cool dry place
she said "facebooks." lol
Which ones?
Yeah, but @richarddawkinsdotnet, could you maybe change this video's thumbnail?(I mean the small one you see on the channel page.)It seriously makes her look like Ann Coulter, and it's just kinda...erm...weird...tho dear fucking god, would _THAT_ not make a rather HIGH-LARIOUS debate! lol
Try tn. bible belt!
prayer should protect you and you should not need insurance. buying insurance shows a lack of faith in the power of protective prayer.

Another way of contrition of failed christianity!!!
Buying insurance shows lack of belief in God, really? Is this what Atheist arguments have become?
King Sparky that is not an Atheist argument just fact if you believe in God why would you need insurance? Insurance companies hedge their bets by adding Acts-of-God clauses to not pay out Policies same weasel arguments!
Avoid hell at all cost. Jesus is Lord.
