- Parents have been pinning me down with all sorts of questions about what to say to their child who wants to have their ears pierced. Let me see if I can push through with some information on this topic.

idk about other countries but mine ig piercing babies ears comes from cultural reasons, like our ancestors did it and not only they pierced ears, they pierced nose and more

My aunt literally tried telling me that a needle was way more dangerous than a piercing gun when I went to get mine done at a tattoo shop.
My moms says that a needle is very bad and a gun is good

I disagree with some of this. You should never get pierced with a piercing gun, reputable professional piercers is the best way. You should never turn the earrings, or use alcohol. Saline solution is the best.

Ummmm you should always use alcohol before you pierce to get any germs off of the area beforehand, and while your ears are healing you should always turn your earrings daily to ensure your skin isn't going to grow around the earrings and make you have to get then cut out. That being said, I agree you should never get a gun because they are dangerous and have a higher risk of infection as oppose to the needle which is cleaner, safer, and gives you a shorter healing time
Lilliana Smithers I think with earlobes turning once a day is good advice as I have multiple lobe piercings now and I still do this with my latest, with cartilage or with other piercings I would not recommend it, especially with cartilage as cartilage gets poor blood supply and allowing the tissue to heal is much more important and since the tissue is not so soft and squishy skin closing isn't as big a problem, just be sure that the jewellery is long enough for any swelling. You can't avoid lips, tongues and cheeks moving around a lot so you don't need to twist them as they are being kept mobile anyway and twisting just causes unnecessary damage to the healing fistula nose piercings I am not sure of but I never turned mine and its fine, surface piercings I would not attempt to turn, nipples and genitals, same but I would not allow my teen to get those done, or the tongue for that matter as they need to be fully developed physically and ready mentally for those.
I believe that if you pierce the earlobe with a gun its alright, unless your planning to pierce around the ear cartilage which may shatter with the use of a gun :)
Ear guns= Blunt force trauma
Hollow piercing needles= create space for swelling and the piercing to be applied
The evidence against piercing guns should be enough for this man in this video to advise against them especially on a baby
Mia Delmonte it needs to be a gun for babies because they move more and theirs more risk of them moving and getting stabbed with a needle. once they’re old enough to sit still a needle is the way to go

Same, except I was 7 1/2 for my first one.
I believe the decision should always be left up to the child. Getting them pierced as a baby is forced I don’t care what people say. Once pierced you can’t undo it. So if children grow up and not want it they can’t get rid of it. I’m tired of hearing that parents don’t want them to remember the pain. If ear piercing is something children truly want they won’t care about how bad it hurts. I didn’t, I got mine done at 6 and didn’t cry. Luckily I was never forced but I regret getting my ears pierced 4 times. My holes are still open and I haven’t worn earrings in 2 years. Because you can’t undo an ear piercing, I won’t encourage my children to do it but I won’t say no if they want it done. I will tell them once done you can’t undo it so be sure you want to do it.

My daughter can’t wear earrings. We have tried everything and nothing works. I’m sad and so is she.
Mesha Mesha try find an APP piercer in your area & ask them for implant grade titanium earrings as it’s the safest material (& also has zero nickel). Your daughter might be allergic to nickel which is common in a lot of jewelry & can cause swelling, itch etc

I had the same issue until I went to get my doubble piercing on my ear professionally and not at clares and they told me that implant grade titanium is the best you can get... I'm sorry if you have already tried that but it is extremely rare to not be able to wear implant grade titanium so try that if you haven't yet.

1 in 3 children have pretty gross complications from piercing guns shoving blunt earrings through your childs ear.
Doctors are not trained in piercing anything for aesthetic reasons
Go to a piercing professional who is trained in this and its their carrier. They are licensed and monitored specifically for piercing people.
And always do it with a hollow needle and use saline once it is pierced not alchohol
I don’t really like when babies are pierced cus a lot of the time when they grow up the piercings come out wonky & mismatched
Not for mine I got mine at 2 months and it saves pain and they actually turn out more healthy in my opinion my ears get less grease balls ever since but I'm not allowed to wear my first ever earrings cause my mom wears hem so she can always remember hem she had them in her ear for 9 years

NEVER EVER GET PIERCED WITH A PIERCING GUN!!!!! Always go to a professional store that uses a piercing needle. Run away from places like Claire's that uses a piercing gun, they are not safe, unsanitary, and far more risk of infection and permanent damage can occur! real piercings are not expensive, please just pay for a proper piercing, especially if you are getting one for your kids!

When I was born, my mom didn't want to pierce my ears, but when I turned three, my grandmother took me and sneaked me to have them pierced.
Honestly, I don't consider ear piercing a baby's ears to be a harmful tradition, as many say. They should never be pierced with a gun, though. What I do believe is that it is better to wait for the child to grow up and decide if he/she wants them or not.
Here in Colombia, all girls are usually given earrings when they come out of the womb.

I got mine done with a gun when i was 5, and it turned fine, it got infected about a year ago 'because the earring wouldnt go in and i pocked mt ear to hard, i just used salt and water and it was fine in a day!

A few updates: no to piercing guns and no to twisting the jewelry
I got my ears pierced twice at Claire's and they got infected both times, it hurt to much to even touch my earlobe, so i just took them off
Don't go to Claire's. Don't ever go back. They are unprofessional and use piercing guns. If you want an ear piercing get it done at a professional place, even if the price is higher, and definitely with a needle not a gun. Good luck.

Professional piercers do not recommend twisting/turning your jewelry. Doing so prolongs the healing process.

GUYS! LISTEN this information is wayyyhy out of date do not use his advice. You should never get you or your child pierced with a piercing gun. Don’t use alcohol you saline and don’t turn it leave it alone. You can look up the resonating to all of these things I didn’t want to explain it but just trust me on this one
Depends on the person, but I WISH my dad let my mum pierce my ears, because for years I’ve wanted earrings but I’ve always been afraid to get them. I’m now 14 and I have to force myself to get them lol because I want them so badly

Don't turn the earring unless it's accidental when your cleaning it. Don't use alcohol it will irritate & dry the fresh wound, use saline solution.

How about we all agree that the right age is when they can ask for the piercing done? I had all 3 of mine done when I was old enough to ask for mine, and I'm glad I had a choice.
If I ever have kids I would get them done when they’re a baby so when they’re older and if they don’t like it then they can let the holes close up if they want to
@@nataleeisjustchilling2737 I don't support that choice because I believe body modifications should be done only if the child says they want it done. Nobody should be forcibly pierced without their permission. I'm glad my mom waited until I made the decision for myself when I was 7 1/2 years old, and I think I can say that I'm addicted to piercings because I have 4 holes on both ears and counting, plus my right nostril. Additionally, if it's done as a baby, sometimes the hole can end up in an odd place as the child gets older. If my mom pierced me as a baby, there's no way I'd be wearing any earrings or have any holes (even if a doctor has to stitch up the holes) in my ears now simply out of pure spite.

I accidentally came by a video of a kid getting his ears pierced and apparently his parents were also having their one-year-old's ears pierced as well she had no idea what was going on. She was crying and kept turning her head when they were trying to Mark the Spot on her ears to pierce it. And then also cried again when she got her ears pierced the whole time screaming. How does this not constitute as child abuse?

I got my ears pierced once, it turned out bad because I always slept on my ear and I have a habit for touching my earlobes and it bent itself and was painful becuase the backing was stabbing me so I took them out and never got them pierced again, I don’t touch my earlobes (as much, I still do a little bit, hard to break habits I’ve been doing since 2 years old). I am thinking about possibly getting them re-pierced but I don’t know.

Go to a tattoo shop. The guns are terrible for piercing. Needles are the best way to go.

I got my piercing at 4/5 years old and I got it through injection i.e. my ear became senseless and then the doctor pierced so I never felt the pain
And now I am 16 it's completely okay I never had an infection

Me: when I was 7 I got my ear pierced... it was done very professionally and we cleaned them as much as recommended. First came the infection, then, a week later bleeding. Not just like a small cut bleeding but like screaming, crying, stinging, bleeding. Imma try again now that I'm 14 wish me luck
And all over the world parents get their baby's ear pierced immidiately after they got out of the womb and they did it by themself using needles and thread lmao
if using Gold the Gold should be at least 14K solid Gold or above and never use plated gold earrings. Steele and Titanium or both excellent materials to used as long as they are Medical Grade. Also, it's okay to pierce children as long as they want their ears pierced no matter what age they are but it's never okay to pierce a baby who's too young to decide for themselves if they want the piercing or not whether they are male or female. Simple common sense and ethics.
I used a very thin nail that I put in boiling water before hand but it worked just fine
