My daughter brought home this plant , my very first succulent, when she 4 years old. She is now 29 and I have been growing and propagating this same plant for 25 years ! Thus began my succulent obsession!!
I am now the owner of one of these. It was gifted to me by a worker from where I live. She had inherited it from her relative and didn't know what to do with it. Typically, it got VERY leggy with at least 2 outstretched "branches". She got paranoid and rather than throw it out, she gave it to me. She knew that I had some plant knowledge from seeing my thriving small collection. I'm - with the help of instructional videos such as these - going to get radical with it with propagations, beheadings, you name it! I will grow the petals and stems, get them going for a while and gift them out to her co-workers. I'm sure they'll get a kick out of them. Thank you for posting.
This was my first succulent and it is still growing strong after more than 10 years! I live in Manitoba, Canada and I have always grown it indoors with no problems! I keep it on a south facing bay window ledge. Thank you for your videos!
Several people ask me for babies(keiki's) from my plants but don't feel confident enough the share yet. Your videos are helping me to reach that point. Mahalo, Cissy
I want all the succulents. I tend to overwater them so your soak and dry method is really helping me keep my plants alive. Thank you. Love your videos.
Me neither! To me, it was seemingly just a given since these plants are from the desert they would thrive in hotter weather. Knowing that and the fact that it's cold hardy down to freezing is comforting. Here in Lake Charles, LA, we're near the Gulf of Mexico and typically get maybe a light freeze or so per winter, but our summers can be brutal. Guess that's the price you pay for living in a sub-tropical practically frost-free zone in the South! If I know it's going to give us a light freeze, I'll just scoot it inside for the night.
I bought a Graptopetalum a few months ago. I don't know what kind it is but it looks like a ghost plant. I LOVE IT!! The stems are growing baby rosettes and I've already successfully propagated 3 of it's leaves. I have it in a pot on my deck and will bring it inside for the winter. I'm a newbie at succulents and I'm thrilled with this plant!
My Ghost Plant was a rescue. It had been over watered and lost a lot of its leaves but thankfully it didn't have any rot. It's now happily living in a container with my Echeverias and other Graptopetalums. It's beautifully colored so I guess it's getting enough sun! :)
I got one of these for 1$ because the store considered it an “ugly plant” it was just wasn’t getting enough sun so it’s really stretched out and needs a little care. Can’t wait to help him out!
Hiii... I am in Florida 9b... How did yours do outdoors please? Did you give it full sun? I just got one and worried it will be too hot here for this plant :(
I think I have the hybrid-2” wide. I love the trailing aspect and the color. I have propagated both ways, by stem cuttings and by leaves...SO MANY LEAVES! It’s so fun to give away the baby plants. I took them to Bible Study and shared them with my friends. They loved them.
I love the color changes in these plants! I call it a 5-in-1 cause it changes so drastically throughout the year, that it's like having multiple plants. Lol Sometimes mine are grey. Sometimes they look more like a mottled purple/pink. Right now, they're showing a really drastic, beautiful stress variegation!! It's gorgeous!
This beauty is on my ever-growing succulents wishlist! I can’t wait to have one! With Cassidy’s amazing guides, I feel more confident about my already green thumb. Thank you for the info!
I do have some of these which started from a cutting from a friend. Now I have several growing in pots which have “caught” dropping leaves and made new babies. I love this one!
I live in east Texas and I have a big pot of these guys and I’ve noticed during the fall and winter they don’t mind being watered a lot! I don’t water mine of course, they just get watered from the rain but they are so happy and plump! They’re propagating by themselves as well and it’s fabulous!! They seriously hate the summer tho. I have to keep them in a semi shaded area or else they get fried!
Yeah same. I’m in Perth Western Australia & I was watering mine 2-3 times a week in summer because even though it is dormant in summer they were looking dehydrated in their pot & quickly perked up after a soaking. This was just with morning summer sun & afternoon shade. 😳
Thank you for adding info about pet safety! I just posted to the facebook page a whole list of safe/toxic succulents before i watched this. What a coincidence!
I'm so excited, I JUST got some of these... 3 of them crammed into a 4inch pot. I have been wanting a little baby of this for so long. I planted them in their own garden box hoping that theyll fill up the whole thing. Didnt realize they were winter growers! Thanks for posting these amazing videos :)
Love the fact that this is a trailing succulent with even rosettes at the end...just wish I could grow this one indoors. Love the range of colors too, especially the bronze. As much as I love this succulent , I fear I won't have much success in the midwest.
This is by far the most prolific succulent I own. I am able to grow it indoors and keep it compact under my grow lights with at least 10+ hours of light per day.
After listening to your video, I guess I have its cousin. The descriptions really help figure this out. I love the color variation of the leaves. Actually had blooms this year. Even with all the help, I still have a serious problem with my plants stretching. I volunteer for the S.N.A.P. Animal Rescue by growing plants, potting and preparing for sale in their local thrift store. Raising the succulents helps me and also the animals. It is always. Challenging to keeping enough plants growing well and obtaining donations of plants to meet the needs of the store sales. 😊
I have a couple of these indoors and LOVE the colors! I learned a lot from this video! I also have about 15 babies from leaf prop. I sure discovered they are super easy to prop LOL. I’ll move mine outside when this weather breaks. Thank you!
I lovee the Ghost plant 💚 I got 3 rosettes from a friend they were a little etiolated so I took a lot of leafs and now I've got fourty something pups from those 3 rosettes. Their propagation by leaf is effortless 😊😊💚💚💚💚
I've had my Ghost Plant, Marilyn, for about 2 months. I can't keep them outside (apartment living) but I keep them in the window and I live in San Francisco and they seem to be doing well. They're a little long, but I want to be able to propgate and make my pot more full anyhow. Super cute little succ.
Another gr8 teaching ... have not had good experiences w/ Ghost Plants especially in the summer and now I know why ... 💦💦💦 issues during the summer ...😱 ... now I know to back it off a bit !!! The front of the house ... where it is located ... is starting to get less 🌞 ... so I will move it to a back patio that is getting more 🌞 and LIGHT !!! Since we are in the High Desert of CA FULL light is better than FULL 🌞 !!! Thanks AGAIN !!!
There are some you could grow up there, but you are right. The selection is smaller. Here are some that would work though: ua-cam.com/video/65buXAOx5NA/v-deo.html
I have had good results with propagation of my Ghost plants, but have to be careful of too much heat and sun exposure on my SW facing patio in So Calif. Interesting color changes!
I have a couple of these I got at Home Depot but they didn't have names on them to identify the plant. I am happy that it seems like an easy one to grow. Thanks for the information.
I do have a small Ghost Plant. I have it inside under a grow light. I found out from your video that it doesn't like indoors. It is tall and leaning. But in SC it gets very hot outside. Thank you for your videos! Ethel Walker
Does yours do okay under the grow light? I'm in SC too and just rescued a ghost plant from southern Georgia. It's too cold here now for it to go outside but i'm afraid to cut it back and repot now
I have ghost plant outside, like the way it hangs over the edge of the pots. I am not great with leaf proposition so maybe I’ll try with this one. Thanks for the video.
i've seen so many different pictures of these. it's good to know the other types that this plant (and others) become confused with. i hope to have one of these in my collection at some point!
I don't think I have any ghost plant, but I've always wanted to try some because I'm trying to get into propagation! One day, maybe, when I have some outdoor space...
So glad you have enjoyed the videos! In some of our earlier videos like this one we didn't have close ups, something we have tried to improve going forward. You can see a close up photo of ghost plant and more care info about it here. www.succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-ghost
Oh, I wish I had found you before I got mine! I live where it is too cold outside for this beautiful plant so I'm going to have to try to meet it's needs indoors.
Love your videos. They are very informative especially for newbies like myself. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and inspiration. Would you please consider a close up of the plant you are featuring or maybe a photo insert? Again thank you.
Yes! Thank you for the feedback. We were trying to take a very simple approach so we could get a lot of these out quickly. However, that was an oversight for sure. You can see a close up of the succulent here: www.succulentsandsunshine.com/types-of-succulents/graptopetalum-paraguayense-ghost-plant/?.com&
I have this plant and I didn't realize it would be a good trailing plant! I have noticed a new little rosette where a leaf fell off (still waiting for the leaf to produce something).
Don't have this one won't be getting one because of the special care it will need in my area. But love getting information ghost plant because I have seen them. Thanks again for the info.
I'm in zone 8 south of Austin Texas. These plants lose leaves like crazy. I have them growing in the space between my sidewalk area and under other succulents wherever a leaf has dropped. Finally I just threw a few in my front bed that has other succulents that are not as aggressively growers. It's cold now but they all seem to be happy in the ground. I'm thinking they'll be able to go crazy in that bed with my holly bushes!
Thank you so much! I got the shirt on Etsy. Here is an affiliate link: www.succulentsandsunshine.com/purplesucculentshirt They have other colors and styles too!
Awesome! Thank you for the input! I will work on that for sure :) In the meantime, I do have a planting tutorial here, though it's not all indoor plants: ua-cam.com/video/-YBiHIRlXQw/v-deo.html This was a live demo I did, but I'll put together a more polished tutorial too.

I have a couple of these and am lucky to live in an area where they grow well. I haven't killed them yet! I'll definitely be trying the propagation techniques with these!
Thank you for the level of detail on the Ghost Plant. I'm still struggling to determine the right amount of light and water for my little pots. My lesson from your videos is less is better. Maybe I'll try a larger planting and it won't be so sensitive!

This was my first succulent and it is still growing strong after more than 10 years! I live in Manitoba, Canada and I have always grown it indoors with no problems! I keep it on a south facing bay window ledge.
Thank you for your videos!
That's fantastic!!
I didn't know that there were winter grow succulents. Always learning something new. Thanks.
If i cut the stem...then just plant what i had cutted...will it grow???
Yes just don’t water it until it has time to callus and close the wound or it will rot
Me neither! To me, it was seemingly just a given since these plants are from the desert they would thrive in hotter weather. Knowing that and the fact that it's cold hardy down to freezing is comforting. This is my first succulent! It stretches like crazy and I ended up with a ton of ghost babies.
Wee
Aww!! Cute. I can't have mine outside, and yet I am not prepared for my child to give birth! 😩
(Got mine today.)
I would’ve never guessed these were winter growers, my ghost plant propagates and grows like crazy even in these summer months :)
Grows fine in 8b, I have a 4 foot by 12 foot patch of it in Austin. Had been fine with freezes down to 15 degrees with no cover
I got one of these for 1$ because the store considered it an “ugly plant” it was just wasn’t getting enough sun so it’s really stretched out and needs a little care. Can’t wait to help him out!
This will totally work in my zone 9b area. I primarily grow my succulents outdoors!
That is a great idea! I've ended up sharing a lot of plants with friends from church too!
They really grow so fast. So true. I grow them both in leaves and through cuttings.. I’ve grown a lot of them..
I love the color changes in these plants! I call it a 5-in-1 cause it changes so drastically throughout the year, that it's like having multiple plants. Lol Sometimes mine are grey. Update: I bought a ghost plant today, haha! It even came with a baby offset! I’m in love! 😍
I love how easy they are to propagate! Beautiful plant!
I love these Graptopetalum Paraguayense!! They really do propagate like crazy! Great video! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I do have some of these which started from a cutting from a friend. Now I have several growing in pots which have “caught” dropping leaves and made new babies. I love this one!

It's so great you've been able to figure out what your succulents need in your area! :)
I have not tried growing this plant. Thanks for all the good information.
Ghost plant was one of my first succulents. I've learned that he likes more water than some of my other plants here in AZ.
Do you have it inside or outside?
Yeah same. I’m in Perth Western Australia & I was watering mine 2-3 times a week in summer because even though it is dormant in summer they were looking dehydrated in their pot & quickly perked up after a soaking. This was just with morning summer sun & afternoon shade. 😳

I love my mother of pearl, ghost plant! Also, really is a survivor. And definitely does grow rather quickly and will grow from a broken stem.
I definitely learned the hard way that these need a lot of light. I've placed it outside and they're doing so well now!
Love the fact that this is a trailing succulent with even rosettes at the end...just wish I could grow this one indoors. Love the range of colors too, especially the bronze. As much as I love this succulent , I fear I won't have much success in the midwest.
I really enjoy my ghost plant. AND I just can't get enough of your video's!!!
This is by far the most prolific succulent I own. I am able to grow it indoors and keep it compact under my grow lights with at least 10+ hours of light per day.

This plant sounds like a good choice, I may have to give it a try. Interesting coloring
I'm learning so much from all of these videos. I didn't know anything at all about the highest ghost plant. Thanks for the video!
I am now thinking about moving so I can grow more succulents since I live in Canada that has extremely cold winters. Sooo many fantastic plants.
There are some you could grow up there, but you are right. The selection is smaller. Here are some that would work though:
ua-cam.com/video/65buXAOx5NA/v-deo.html
I don't have this one but I believe I have one in the same family. These videos are so helpful!
I'm a fan of this succulent, so easy to grow and propagate.
I have had good results with propagation of my Ghost plants, but have to be careful of too much heat and sun exposure on my SW facing patio in So Calif. Interesting color changes!
I, too, have learnt about summer dormancy. It is fairly counter-intuitive!
I have one of these. And several of its babies. Good to know it’s a winter grower.
Oh this is timely! I just bought one of these!
Love your videos. I like to use closed captioning, and it is so funny to see the interpretation of the Latin names of succulents.
Love the ghost plant. Learning so much from these videos. Thank you!!
Absolutely my favorite succulent! Thank you. ❤️
I have a couple of these I got at Home Depot but they didn't have names on them to identify the plant. I am happy that it seems like an easy one to grow. Thanks for the information.

Right now I live in an apartment, but as soon as I have more room outdoors this is going in my garden. 🙂🤩
i've seen so many different pictures of these. it's good to know the other types that this plant (and others) become confused with. i hope to have one of these in my collection at some point!
I don't think I have any ghost plant, but I've always wanted to try some because I'm trying to get into propagation! One day, maybe, when I have some outdoor space...
I love these little videos! I have a variety of succulents but no idea what each of them is so this is great!
So much wonderful information in these videos. Can't wait to look for a "Ghost plant" on my next town trip. Thanks so much!
Learning so much about succulents!
I really wish we could see the plants you discuss.
Thank you for the videos I am working my way through them all x
So glad you have enjoyed the videos! In some of our earlier videos like this one we didn't have close ups, something we have tried to improve going forward. You can see a close up photo of ghost plant and more care info about it here.

Oh, I wish I had found you before I got mine! I live where it is too cold outside for this beautiful plant so I'm going to have to try to meet it's needs indoors.
I also have this plant n I'm glad you let me know it doesn't like the heat bc I was wondering what was going on with mine during this hot weather!
Love your videos. They are very informative especially for newbies like myself. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and inspiration. Would you please consider a close up of the plant you are featuring or maybe a photo insert? Again thank you.
Eileen Schuller yes I would like to see them up close too
Yes! Thank you for the feedback. We were trying to take a very simple approach so we could get a lot of these out quickly. However, that was an oversight for sure. You can see a close up of the succulent here:
www.succulentsandsunshine.com/types-of-succulents/graptopetalum-paraguayense-ghost-plant/?.com&
I actually think I have a few of these growing inside. So true about easy propagation!
I have this plant and I didn't realize it would be a good trailing plant! I have noticed a new little rosette where a leaf fell off (still waiting for the leaf to produce something).
They grow like crazy in my backyard. I am always trimming them back and starting new arrangements. Mine bloom yellow flowers on long stems.
Thanks for sharing information on the Ghost Plant! I need to add this to my succulent collection!
Don't have this one won't be getting one because of the special care it will need in my area. But love getting information ghost plant because I have seen them. Thanks again for the info.
Love the name mother of pearl. Looks like a beautiful plant.
Thank you so much for doing a video on Ghost Plant!
Learned some new things about this succulent today. Thank you!

Interesting succulent. Loving your shirt btw😻 thanks for making these clips🙏
Thank you so much!
I got the shirt on Etsy. Here is an affiliate link:
www.succulentsandsunshine.com/purplesucculentshirt
They have other colors and styles too!
I’m propagating this guy now. So far so good... thanks for the information! 😁🌵
I do have some of these at home. Can’t wait for them to get big enough to trail pots!
I have some outside and some inside, the color difference is really amazing. They propagate so easily I have a whole tray just for my Ghost Plants.
My dad has this one and he was afraid to cut it. I'm going to show him this video and take a cutting for myself!
I didn’t realize they will change color like that. Cool!
I think I had one of those..... "had" being the operative word. I know now that it didn't like being inside. Thank you for all the great info!
What a beautiful plant!
We had a mild summer here in pnw and my new gohst plant just loved it. Full sun and mostly 80's
Very interesting. I have not had this succulent. Thanks for the great info!
A most interesting plant . I may have to give it a try.
Awesome video - thank you! I would love to see a step by step video on indoor succulent arrangement, please and thank you. :)
Awesome! Thank you for the input! I will work on that for sure :)
In the meantime, I do have a planting tutorial here, though it's not all indoor plants:
ua-cam.com/video/-YBiHIRlXQw/v-deo.html
This was a live demo I did, but I'll put together a more polished tutorial too.
Thanks for all the useful information!
Thank you for these wonderful videos. There is so much useful information given!
My ghosties are super etoliated but thats to he expected with a covered balcony...im getting a new grow light indoor setup and hopefully ill be able to get the cuttings to stay compact with that. Yours are so gorgeous
And I know ghosties are different from ghost plant, but I've generally had the same issues with graptos because of the poor direct sunlight.
what a coincidence, i ordered it 2 days ago and waiting for a delivery-the advice herein will come handy
I love the ones that can go through many colors 😻
Another favorite!!! I love her I grow inside in a tent!
Thank you for the information regarding winter growth and lighting needs! A Ghost Plant would make a great Halloween addition to any succulent collection! :)
Ghost plant is my favorite!! Great info about the ghosty plant.. I had no idea they were different and I have both lol.
Unfortunately I don't have a Ghost Plant but looks gorgeous and is definitely on my wishlist. 😍😍😍
Thanks for the info, probably not for my climate in Bakersfield, Ca but good to know.
So much information thank you for sharing! I’m learning a lot from your videos 🌵❤️
Mine stays light green. Will give more light. Thank you!
Didn't realize when I bought one that it was better outside. I've learned a lot through trial and error though!
These grow like crazy!
I bought one of these at Home Depot a while back, and it's doing terribly inside, no wonder! I thought it would be ok in the window. Time to bring to my boyfriends backyard since I don't have one! :)
Would love to try this one in Central Texas...
