- Mazatrol Lathe Cut Off and Bar Pulling Mazak. In this video, I am showing you how to program a combination cut off tool / bar puller. I also show you how to save the bar pull operation to another area of the controller so you do not have to re-write the lengthy cut off sequence each time. Just copy it from memory from another program.
Brilliant video, same as how we were taught to do it, but I remember something about putting a part pause in so the part can be stop n go checked or measured on long multipart runs, I'm trying to remember (as it was about 20 years ago) how the machine knew that the bar had run out and didn't try to perform an operation on a piece that was only held in the jaws by a few thou or a mil or two.
First of all: Many thanks for creating this channel. Very useful for a tyro CNC machinist like myself. I have a bit of past experience with a T-2 control but I now have my own QT6T with a Fusion 640 control. There is no bar feed interface on the machine so I need to use this option and I'm very grateful for the programming example. I don't have a bar gripper so will either need to make or purchase one or alternatively use the parting tool to pull the bar out. I will mainly be turning small diameter brass fittings, so the bar will not be that heavy and I suspect the parting tool might be OK for pulling the bar. I guess time will tell.
Thanks for the compliment Michael.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 are you getting a new machine anytime soon, phil? i think you should get a 5 axis mill
@@christophercolumbus8944 Lol. Sorry but no new machines on the horizon.
Great video, all your videos are very informative keep up the good work! I didn't see M48 and M49 code guessing no parts catcher.
Thank you. No parts catcher. Parts are landing in a plastic tub sitting on top of the chip conveyor.
Great video sir.I hope i can see more in the future.Thank you .
Great video's as usual. Its interesting to see how machinist do programs different. I have always done the bar pull at start of program. Copied sequence from another old program and modify pull length only. This way the cut off operation doesn't get messed up by accident. Atleast for me it would be accident.
Thanks again for the great video's.
Where were you when i started learning long long (1987) ago because this would have been so much help. I had to learn from the mazak manuals and that was tough going.
Thanks for the feedback. I never thought about doing the bar pull at the beginning probably because I have the combo part off tool and bar puller in one.
Thank you so much, best regards from Peru 😇
Glad to help.
Great, how cool is that. I working On mazak lathes and its brilliant, thanks
Thanks for watching.
Great content. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks.
Hi Phil, great videos! Do you know if it’s possible to automatically probe tools mid cycle on t2 or t3 mazak? Thanks
Yes, I believe it is possible but I have not tried it yet. I used to do that on a T+ controller. Sounds like another idea for a video. Thanks.
we have an old mazak qt 15 m 1995 T-plus and we have 380 volts and 20 amps Its just running parts XD, we have connected an ampere meter and It Is just with the acceleration to max rpm It uses 60 amps but thats not for a long time normally only 16 amps when turning.
btw we are trying to get more amps haha.
How can I contact u I need some help just bought a qt 15 I’m concerned about the power
Hi, Great video! Do you know what parameter allows for the bar puller? I have a QT15, and always get an error code if I try to open the chuck in a program.
For a T2 and T3 control,OP parameter 1, bit 1 set it to 1 to enable M6 M7 in automatic mode.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 Awesome! But now I'm having an issue with the format on my input. How do I change that number? It is currently 0000 0100
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 Found it! Parity bit - 0000 0110 2
@@1buellrider type in 0000 01102 and press input
I don't know if you need to power down and restart the machine for this parameter to take effect or not.
would you write a sub program like this too?
I mean I have to run a loop 50 times. ? ? is that possible?
Sub program is not necessary. The END process will loop the program 50 times.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 what was the thing about "shift" you said near the end? don't use shift or your machine will explode?
@@derick3482 If you use shift when bar pulling the machine will crash.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 thanks, Phil and if I want zero RPM for spindle I can do that as well ?
@@derick3482 not sure. Never tried that.
I just bought at auction a 1990 qt15 n t32-2 control
Yes, your machine will have the FR-SF drive. Search the forum for the answer to how to reduce the acceleration parameters or you can post up a new question.

Nice sir
Thanks.
are you sure there is no mazatrol programming for cutting off or parting off? ?
Newer machines have part off grooving options. Mine does not.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 how new? which control ?
@@christophercolumbus8944 I know the T+ had that ability. Not sure about the T32 control.
@@mazatroltipsandtricks6816 i used groove #0
give it the width of the cutter and depth
can you try it so you won't have f yourself like this ? haha
@@christophercolumbus8944 I'm combining the cut off with the bar pulling operation so that's the main reason I'm doing it like that in the video.
what is the difference between yellow and green?
aah is It If Its programming In Increments?
@@jepkeklinge3778 Yes. Yellow is incremental.
I only have 40 amps output at 245 volts 3 phase
You would definitely need to reduce the spindle acceleration parameters with only 40 amps available. This is a different process vs mine depending on the year of your machine and which spindle drive it has installed. My machine has an FR-SE spindle drive in it. On this old drive, you are merely changing the position of some micro DIP switches on the drive control board. I don't know the procedure if you have a newer FR-SF spindle drive. For more help, go to the Mazak forum on PracticalMachinist.com/vb/mazak/ and start a new thread about your machine and what controller it has on it.
hello Phil, can i get your messenger ,I would like to ask some information about the school ,thank you.
Not sure what you mean by school?

@@bambiluong9759 Got it. Thanks.
They call that a sub program.
This is the END process capability of a Mazatrol program. Yes, this would definitely be a sub program on a G-code machine.
