    Hey Phil'
    Great to see another video from you.
    When we think you have pretty much finished showing everything you have.
    You manage to find something else.
    Looks like you have been spoiling yourself with the Capto Tool Holder.
    Definitely a very handy piece to have in the shop.
    Just a little hard to justify there expense.
    But they do pop up online for sale from time to time.
    It's good you could add another video to the collection.
    Hopefully you still have a few more to add.
    All the best.
    Thanks for posting another video.

      That's actually Kennametal KM50 tooling. I have about 5 base blocks in the machine. I use the KM50 holders for special tools and use the stick tooling for standard stuff like CNMG432 for OD turning.

    You are a real life saver, thank you for all these videos!
    I've been trying to make a inward cone in the face of these parts, but I'm really struggling here. It seem to make the right shape in the graphics, but it draws the tool path as if it wants to overshoot the center point which would make a flat spot in the bottom of the cone. I hope this makes sense.

      You may need to machine the center portion with a drill point vs trying to force a boring bar down to the center point. Not sure of your geometry.

    Hi Phil, I’m a brand new viewer and I am in the market for a new to me used Mazak lathe and your videos are a great big help. I’m wondering if you would be able to put together a short video on things that a prospective buyer could look at when viewing are used lathe with the intent to purchase. It seems that would be a great video for all of us newbies to see.

      Hi Brian, thanks for the video suggestion. Honestly, I do not have the general knowledge on what to look for when buying a used machine. I bought my machines based on them being the same models as I had already been using at my work and knew how to fix them. Any used machine will undoubtedly need repairs and I cannot afford a service technician to do the repairs for me. My best suggestion would be to ask your question on the Practical Machinist Mazak forum. There are more knowledgeable guys there. They are my go to source when I cannot figure something out. Thanks. www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/mazak/

    I noticed the paint on your machine peeling etc. Looks like standard rattle can paint. Coolant will make the paint separate from the steel. You need to use a 2 part mix paint. Maybe do a video on machine paints. It was a challenge for me to find proper paint.

    Hello Phil thank you for getting back to me about my other question. Now I have another question I am wanting to machine 2 wrench flats 180 deg. out from each other on the side of a 1-1/4" shaft. I would be using a 1/2" endmill and have the mills radius on the ends of the flats for strength (less shear point). Is it even possible or would you just use a ball mill. Thanks again for your good work.

      Copy cycle was needed to cut this feature. Bar IN motion would cause the heel of the tool to interfere with the part. Bar Face would also not work because the tool will not go below X0 and leave an uncut area the size of the tool radius.

    • @mazatroltipsandtricks6816
      @mazatroltipsandtricks6816  3 роки тому +1

      Drills and endmills are probed on the length only. For axial tools, the drill or endmill is on the X axis centerline. Never probe the side of an endmill.

    • @itsnotfar
      @itsnotfar 3 роки тому

      I've probed the side of drills and endmills and then add or subtract incremental amount depending on what sensor you touch off on. Adjust on the tool set page. Just be very careful to get everything right. Once you done it a few times it saves set up time. Try it and then double check using indicator off Chuck. Using a indicator off the chuck to find zero is soooo time consuming. I have a similar machine to yours and also still have my old t1 machine too.
