Only recently added Topdon to my equipment. Seems good so far for mobile, mainly for BMS.. So insurance happy too

Can this Unit be used on a 2013 Subaru WRX STI to clone my malfunctioning old ECM. My old ECM is going bad and I have a replacement but it is unusable without being able to Clone data like VIN and immobilizer info. I have a Cobb tuner which will allow me to program performance functions only. Most of these scanners allow only full function with usually German cars.
I wish it would highlight in red values in the live data that are out of their normal range. The Launch V+ I believe does do that.
Red numbers are of no use in reality, take actual and desired MAF, with EGR open the number would be out of range but correct.
@@SimplyDiagnostics Not even as just a guide? I mean I have no idea what some values should be until doing some research and maybe a thorough look through the owner’s manual. But i’ll keep your point in mind, I understand why you say that.

Nice review Steve, good to see you back, stay safe mate. I like that dongle lanyard idea🤣👍 The Topdon Phoenix Pro looks very much the same system as my 2020 Launch X431V+ V4.0 10.1in. Phoenix Pro is using Blue menus, Launch uses Red..Topdon does have some extra external media sockets but looks like pretty much the same software layout, dongle + kit contents..It's been very good to me so far. (Launch uses a Lenovo TBX605FC android 9.0 based tablet)👍🇦🇺
I'm pretty sure the topdon uses the base Launch software but that's where the similarities end. There aren't so many videos on it but the online programming functions make the Phoenix Pro and artipad far more versatile ie BMW, Benz, Porsche, VW, Audi, JLR and recently Subaru online functions and programming. 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics Yeh, the Topdon looks like a great piece of kit. Also I'm guessing Launch might be somewhat limited for local support/language barriers and programming functions etc, particularly with Euro cars. I'm quite surprised how many Euro's and functions are listed though. Luckily, I don't generally do programming and I also prefer to avoid Euro cars where possible, but I will do occassional diags, general repairs + servicing for regulars. Not too many missed opportunities as Euro cars aren't nearly as popular here as over there👍🇦🇺
It's a like from me are them any good as I have had 2 off Ebay rubbish could not even read the vin number has this got key coding and topology mapping MODULES 😊

I was thinking of buying this tool but to me looks identical to launch pro3 but extra programming features, according to the topdon fourm it has lots of problems with programming 🤷♂️.
I've never had any issues since the early days. Battery support and wired internet are key. It's far superior to the launch, it uses their base software but the similarity ends there 👍

Are you on the topdon Facebook page? I here people have alot of problems esp programming and due to support being in China it takes a while to get a resolution, I believe there will be a passthru topdon available soon I'm going to wait to see what that brings, then choose between that and the autel.
The prices these tools are getting too tho might be autologic.
Speak to Tom and Chris at Diagnostic Connections, their support for the Topdon range purchased through them is fantastic. I'm off almost every Facebook group as the notifications and newsfeed is too much to handle for me.

Apart from the online programming and coding, the base program is launch but Topdon have added to the software. Recommend you get the phoenix pro for a demo and do a direct comparison, you'll see the differences 👍

Yes but obviously you'd need internet and a current subscription to perform any of the online functions or updates to the machine

It's a good tool. For me, Autel is still in the first place.
I haven't got access to the latest autel so I wouldn't be able to offer a fair comparison.

My 908 is sat in a drawer, it always had poor battery life, autel replaced it for me and now the touchscreen doesn't respond at the bottom. Given up on it.
My autel maxisys elite flew off the roof of a car at 25mph and still works like new for last 3 yrs. Ultra is their new offering. I would be curious how the topdon stacks up to the ultra. Autel codes bmw modules w ease. No sweat always works. This my experience. Has a huge suite of functionality. Probably best expensive tool to add on for European models would be autohex 2 but I have no experience with it. 5800 clams for the full meal deal. Not cheap.

As cool as the topology feature on ALL of these Chinese aftermarket scanners is. They ARE NOT accurate and shouldn't be a key selling point. Not for their price. Trusting the topology feature of these scanners can lead you on a wild goose chase and cost you precious time and money. Remember it is not comparable to OEM topology that in most cases knows the as built equipment. Thus can accurately tell you what equipped modules have a communication fault. These aftermarket scanners just send out a call for communication and tell you who reported back. If no response, it says "Not equipped". That's is not accurate and is miss leading. Not worth the steep price these companies are asking for this half baked feature. No aftermarket scanner is comparable to OEM and no aftermarket does everything well. Know their strengths and weaknesses. They are cheaper than OEM for a reason.
