Today we do a diagnostic scan tool review on the TopDon Phoenix Plus/Pro.
Once again the TopDon Phoenix Plus/Pro is very comparable to the Iscan, Autel, Launch, Autologic, Opus Drive Pro, Snap On, Matco, and oem diagnostic tools.
This unit does lack j2534 programming, but it is a great go to tool for any technician.

Who is Cody’s Auto Diagnostics & Programming LLC?
I was an automotive technician for the last 17 years and hold ASE master with A9 light duty diesel, L1 advanced drivability, and L3 hybrid certifications. I love mine I’m so glad I jumped on it. I Remember when I was talking to you about possibly getting a launch. I waited a month and the waiting paid off because that’s when they came out with the lifetime updates.

I got my topdon about 2 months ago and love it use it more than my snap on have also got hold of the foxwell gt90 I don't now if you have them in America but seem to be a good scan tool only had it for a day

Great video Cody this scanner is the best value probably ever for scanners with lifetime subscription. People not buying these are really missing out. This is my go to as well it’s fast as hell.
I’m digging the speed for sure. Health reports are fast.
Lifetime subscription? This true? We are looking to get a new scan tool for the shop now that our old Autel died

Man Cody I was looking at the autel ultra and here you come with this! Seems pretty nifty tho! Either way mine would be coming from Isaac!
I didn’t want to spent the cash for the ultra even though I really wanted one, this was the next best option lol.
Can you do a Power Balance with Gm with this unit?
Had my Phoenix plus a few weeks here in the UK... loving it so far... didn't know about the balance test. Will have to check that out... hope that's not a U.S option only.....thanks for sharing
Pretty sure that option is available for everyone.
This looks just like my thinktool pro s which I love. Software etc looks identical. Do you find the topology is accurate in the layout most of the time. Think I've noticed on some newer GM's it showed it but did not match up to OEM layout. Haven't verified on most through.
I have seen the topology be incorrect on this tool a couple times. Hopefully these kind of things will be addressed in future updates

This unit has lifetime updates. There is a selection page for the Topology
Can it disable the Annoying Famous Start/Stop on GM cars and the Garbage DOD / AFM that destroys the lifters on the suburbans .?? They told me it does..
Any video reviews on the Topdon Plus vs Lauch X431 Pro vs Autel MK906 within the $1,200 range cant find any comparing to find the best bang for the buck to work best on GM and Chevrolet, Ford Etc..?

Hi Cody, I've enjoyed your videos and value your opinion. I'm think about adding another scan tool to supplement my outdated Verus. Seems like the Launch, Thinktool ProS, and Topdon all basically have the same software. Safe to jump which ever tool is on sale? Thanks dude!
First off thank you for the kind words sir, second, yes any one of those tools will be an awesome choice! They all run the x431 software and all pretty comparable.

I know this is an old video, but I was wondering now with some time under your belt on this unit how you like it compared to the snap on. I know you weren't pleased with the zeus compared to the price. But I was wondering about functionality comparison.
I will say this, yes it’s a good tool and the scope is nice for what it is. The thing I dislike is the price tag SnapOn puts on their stuff. Since this video has come out I have multiple scanners like TopDon or Autel that have topology and honestly SnapOn is way behind now. If you can get a decent price for SnapOn then I would be all for spending money on one. SnapOn graphing is by far the best out there and the component testing is nice to have.
Cody great information as always, just wondering with this tool being made for the American market does it still do all of the key programming and other special functions that the Chinese market x431 launch can do. Thanks for your time.
Hey buddy! Yes this will do pats functions and some key adding and programming. It won’t do an all keys lost situation like the immobilizer tools will do.

Yes unfortunately only on ford.
Looks like a handy tool and affordable. I hate to admit it but I am probably one of a few persons that regrets jumping on the Autel Ultra . Should have waited . Hope you´re doing great being self employed Cody . Best of luck to you .
Oh man that’s a bummer to hear about the ultra. I was really wanting one of the ultra units but I didn’t want to spend that kind of money at the beginning of going mobile. This is a cheaper alternative for me but happy that I went this direction
Ultra is in a totally different class
I am not comparing the Ultra with " lesser " alternative's. Lesser is the wrong word but you know what I mean. I like the Ultra for the diagnostic part, huge screen, fast, topo, but the measuring and scope I have used so little. Always grab the Pico, test light and multi meter and I think that a great chunk of money went into integrating these features. Others might have only the Ultra for diagnostics but in my case,and in yours too, that's sadly far from true. Regret was maybe a bit harsh but I could have been a bit over enthusiastic the time I bought the Ultra.
Trust me I hear you on all of those. Being mobile I didn’t like how big it is or the vci being monstrous. I know I could pair the mini dongle to it but I have limited room in my truck for equipment right now and the price was out of my range for another aftermarket tool. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the ultra so thank you

I have to agree happy to not have to hook up the ids for power balance and relative compression!!! The fact that it can get past the gateway on Chryslers has me licking my chops I'm Def getting this thanks as always great video supper appreciative!!!

Did you mean the im608? The im series tools are the only one that pull pin codes.

Yes sir it is same software
Does it do air cndtners?
It can read data in modern hvac modules
Can you update the modules software with it thank you
You can do Ford PMI installation on some modules but this tool won’t “program” or “update” any modules.

Not for the Phoenix plus it doesn’t. Mine has lifetime updates which is limited stock. The original price I think is $1699 but no jbox.

It’s not in disguise and is 💯 launch but this “launch” has lifetime updates. “Launch” will never have a promo like that.

@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Sure that would be great. I am going to HAVE to get rid of my Maximus 2.0 because I don’t have access to the AutoAuth on this scanner, it’s old.
As cool as the topology feature on ALL of these Chinese aftermarket scanners is. They ARE NOT accurate and shouldn't be a key selling point. Not for their price. Trusting the topology feature of these scanners can lead you on a wild goose chase and cost you precious time and money. Remember it is not comparable to OEM topology that in most cases knows the as built equipment. Thus can accurately tell you what equipped modules have a communication fault. These aftermarket scanners just send out a call for communication and tell you who reported back. If no response, it says "Not equipped". That's is not accurate and is miss leading. Not worth the steep price these companies are asking for this half baked feature. No aftermarket scanner is comparable to OEM and no aftermarket does everything well. Know their strengths and weaknesses. They are cheaper than OEM for a reason.
