    Nurses should also be thoughtful of housekeeping staff and actually make sure trash gets into the trash can and not all around it.

    Thank you for this message, Nurse Kendra! I am a recent nursing grad and there were some units that I hated going to as a nursing student because some of the nurses on the unit were not nice or helpful and acted as if we were a nuisance to them. On some units, we did not feel welcome at all. On some units, they welcomed us and were more than happy to help us. I genuinely hope we get away from the saying "nurses eat their own" as this is the wrong profession to have that mentality. You need to continue to echo this point many times over.

      I don’t understand why some nurses don’t like students. The other disciplines do not treat their students in this manner. Congrats on becoming a nurse!

    You nailed it. I’m a year into retirement from NY and Ms. Kendra you touched on so many issues. The sad thing my daughter is a dietician and unfortunately it’s throughout departments in healthcare. I pray for all that it can turn around. I witnessed this change. Happened slowly creeping metastasizing through hospital settings. NURSES YOU GOT THIS!!!!!! Solidarity

    I love when we get a crew of students. I'm like, thank God! ❤️ I've been a CNA since 1994, and breaks are hard to take! Holding the bladder and drinking water is a thing for me. They give us 10 to 12 patients, showers and a bunch of feeders. Not to mention sitting time rotations for high fall risk patients! If we get 6 CNAs they'll only give the unit 2 nurses. They give 3 nurses and take away 1 CNA. They say as long as they have a total of 8 workers. The problem with that is if it's a lazy nurse (usually from an agency) we're really working with only 7. We end up having to just figure it out.😒 I'm glad you're mentioning nurses not feeling the need to help with their own patients. I can't tell you how many times I have walked in a patients room who had used it on themselves or tried to get up by themselves. Theyll tell you exactly what the nurse did! 😒 I had one come into the shower rooms while I was showering a difficult patient and told me my patient needed to go to the bathroom real bad. 😐 Fast-forward! When I finally finished my show I had to take the one who just needed to sit on the toilet to the shower too. He was so embarrassed and kept apologizing. It was so hard to convince him he did nothing wrong. I usually didn't do this, but I felt that I needed to explain to him why it wasn't his fault. I told him I'm so sorry that the person didn't help you when you needed it. But I'm here to fix that. And that we should treat others the same way we want to be treated. 🙏

    Nurse Kendra! I truly appreciate how real you are. You speak on many topics that others are afraid to touch. You advocate for the people in a very invaluable profession, and I admire that about you. Anyone working with you, including nursing students should feel very blessed to have you on their team. If I can ask you to speak on a topic of "going back to school for a nursing degree later in life" (48 to be exact), or your experience on working with "more mature" new nursing students. Has retainability ever been a problem with older incoming nurses? Especially those who have the same mentality and work ethics as you. I would love to hear your thoughts.

    • @KendraRN
      @KendraRN  2 роки тому +4

      Hi thank you! I’ve worked with many nurses who are entering the profession later in life. I find those nurses to be very adaptable.
      I think life experience works in their favor, they tend not to sweat the small stuff. Usually the “older” but new nurses have had other careers and nursing is a stepping stone before they retire. Overall it’s never too late to pursue the profession.

    As a salaried exempt employee, I am "donating" my sick time to the company in exchange for bonus. The hourly employees can cash on the unused sick time, therefore, they are often coming to work in "incapable" condition. The most prominent superhero collapsed at work and fell into the rotating machine, which automatically stopped without hurting him, but lost all the production worth of weekly pay for that idiot...

    Hey Kendra,
    I believe I heard you say that teach classes, or give seminars correct me if I am wrong, but in listen to your videos you know your stuff along with field experience and with that being said you speak as a philosopher of Nursing.
    Have you thought about teaching on a college level as a Teacher of Philosophy of Nursing because you have always made your mark of knowledge on anyone that comes in contact with you, but if you catch fresh out of high school before the graduate nursing you would instill remarkable experience, values, & work ethics in these young striving students ready to get out and make their mark on the world.
    You could make a world of difference in these students lives. Just think about it wouldn't you have wanted a professor such as yourself when you were in college school to guide you with the rare kind, sincerity, and compassion that you have for the field ?
    These new millennials need people like you badly Kendra to go into the field being taught correctly and not being bullies, mean, and thrown into the wolves without being armed properly. They are our future !!!

      You touched my heart! I taught for 9 years, clinical instruction. My former students have given me so much reassurance that I am an excellent instructor.
      I took a break from teaching because I was burned out. It is the reason why I started this channel, I said to myself, I can put it all on UA-cam and help other students.
      I’ll return to teaching again, because I know that I make a difference. Thank you so much for reaffirming my abilities. ❤️
