- Queens of the Stone Age are releasing lots of songs right now, but today I'm going to react to Carnavoyeur. I really really enjoyed the last song I listened to from their new album, so let's see if this positive streak continues.

Scott Weiland could sound like Bowie, but Josh REALLY sounds like Bowie here, and it works. This is a great song and album. They also really deliver live.
First thing I thought of was Bowie. His vocal, the different sections, had a very Bowie feel, while no part felt like he was pulling from a particular era or album.
All three convey so much emotion in their singing
It's that line 'always looks that way', that intonation is so Bowie. It's so good to read here everyone else thought the same.
Saw them live last week at a local festival. The set was uber-tight, and they played an extra long version of 'God is in the Radio' to honour Lanegan.
Josh is clearly still shuddering from all that has happened, but man, just when you thought they couldn't get better than 'Like Clockwork', they push beyond.
Mad respect!
Perfect comment. And 100% accurate.
Yes, he does sound likeBowie but that bit instantly reminded me of a The Fixx song. And RIP Scott, another one of my favorites ❤
Absolutely love this song, glad you did as well.
This song is one of my favourites from the album, I was super surprised to hear some people didn't like it at all. Everything about it kicks ass!
Holy shit it’s binyot
@@hiddeneye9723this and Sicily
The vocals just kill. Love josh when the vocals cut deep and he means it. Part of why Like CLockwork was so great, sound of sorrow
Their album 'The Vampyre of Time and Memory' also absolutely slaps.
the whole album is an absolute masterpiece, full of little tricks, layers, every kind of earcandys, and still as tastefull as a whole as its possible to be. briliant band, and also a briliant crew around them in the studio. defo album of the year. easy.
That’s the best part of it, isn it. Every clever turn of phrase is memorable, for various bad ass reasons….
“Open my eyes begin to revel..”
The new album is absolutely magnificent. It’s jam packed with great tracks.
What we wanted: songs for the deaf 2, what we got: them crooked vultures 2
@@romerosneck I think it's pretty obvious we're not getting another Songs for the Deaf. The heavy guitar driven QOTSA sound has gone.
@@TT-df9hp I know man but it doesn't stop me getting my hopes up every 5 years 😂
I LOVE songs for the deaf and it’s probably my favourite album of any artist, period. But, I don’t want another SOTD 2. Let it be it’s own thing.
That said I do like this new album, wasn’t a fan of villains.
@@joshuabudman9109 TBF man I like the album, but as Justin said it's like a Bowie record, not a queen's record and that's the direction their in which is fine, I just wanted some drop c riffs.
Saw QOTSA this week in Halifax at the Peace Hall. Best gig I've been to in years! Powerful, fun and poignant in equal measure. Cracking band.
I was there too, best gig ive ever been to. The sound was amazing and they played In the Fade. Josh seemed really reflective and had tonnes of energy too. Was a great night.
I third that emotion - authentic, fun, irreverent, inclusive, entertaining - Homme is an absolute master of his craft and delivers on every level - my highlight of recent years for sure!
Just been to their show in Cardiff and couldn’t agree more, absolutely blew everyone away and the band seem more tight than ever on stage. Seems as though they’re as happy as we are they’re back !
Saw them 5 years ago when royal blood opened for them and it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Just pure excellence.
I was there too - brilliant and studio tight. Incredible venue too!
QOTSA absolutely rips and Jon Theodore is my favorite drummer.
He’s a beast!
The drumming in this song is FANTASTIC
The current rhythm section has fully solidified on this album and I love it.
Been a huge fan of Jon since his Volta days. I was so bummed when they disbanded, but then when he joined Queens, I was super stoked. They couldn't have picked a better drummer. 🤘
@WizardsWithMachinery I agree. I never really listened to Volta and I didn't care for Theodore in villains, but I feel like he really got every chance to shine on Times... some of the most unique fills I've ever heard
QOTSA is one of the coolest bands out there! Just saw them live and it was insane! It was at a festival with different genre music and people left other artists running to see them! Their energy is off the roof, they’re even better live 🔥
Mad cool??
The new album and This song in particular is so refreshing to see! Ive been a fan of Queens since I was pretty young in the mid-2000s, and to see them creating music that is so interesting and magical makes me so happy. Perhaps i may be reading into it too much, but the new album feels like a direction forward in terms of sound and aesthetic, while harkening back to some of their older projects. Its just spectacular! Easily the best new release of 2023.
Spot on. Some vibes from lullabies, vulgera, clockwork
I noticed the same thing listening to the album.
It's an interesting album that is for sure, it's slowly growing on me. I discovered this band during late 2020 and it's played a huge part in expanding my world of music.
I was disappointed to learn that these weren't coming to play in my city, I've never been to a concert or a large music show, and I wanted Queens to be my introduction. However, Alice In Chains is coming to play in my city in October so I'm planning to go see them.
Saw QOTSA at margate dreamland and oh my god it was amazing!, you could tell how glad Josh was to be back with the audience seeing that he was still loved and all, he ended up staying for a song past curfew costing him £10,000 and when they tried to pull the plug they played songs for the death throgh just amps as Josh kicked down the microphone kicked off the PA and threw himself into the drumkit, hats off josh showing Rock and Roll is still alive
It was a great gig! Nice venue and setting too
@@stripesfan For real! great audience to
Just watched them at Glastonbury last night and they blew me away yet again. Josh and Troy are a what I'd call true rock stars (such as yourself Mr. Hawkins.) incredibly talented, original, super humble and just effortlessly oozing coolness like it just comes naturally. Their set was everything I could've asked for and more. What can I say? I've been a fan boy since was about 12 haha
Best song on the new album. "I'm a vulture so I hear your goodbye" What a line! Seeing them in August with Phantogram. Can't wait!
Yeh that's one of my lyrics on the record... They are straight Magik right now! Made to Parade is pure glory! Like Bowie and the serious side of Ween!
What you worship is yourrr
god!
I desperately want a Homme/Hawkins collab
The Darkness and QotSA are both in my top 10... It would be interesting to hear a collab between these two... they have very different approaches musically
Homme, Hawkins…..Hughes….
@@alanagottalottasay997 "Queens of the Stone H"...?
@@virtualsnake1994 ha!...downright...fa-fa-rrrroo-cious....
They could call it ManHawk (the word Homme is the French word for MAN)
Justin your deep appreciation and understanding for music makes your videos so enjoyable to watch! I agree what a brilliant song and the album as a whole is magnificent. Can't wait for you to hear more!
As an American QOTSA fan, I've often wondered why they're so beloved in Europe but don't get the same love here. By far my fave band of all time, but have yet to find another American that digs them as much
I dig them just as much 🙂
@carriepadula5450 then you, my friend, are absolutely awesome! 😎👍
Been absolutely crazy for QOTSA since my jaw hit the floor hearing 'Feel Good Hit of the Summer' for the first time 22+ years ago
my first song from them was the very first from their first album (Regular John)
I was sitting on my floor baked listening to a random playlist and it came up. Fucking amazing
Still crazy for qotsa? Me not.🤷♂️
If there's only one thing to trust in this world, it is Justin's taste in music.
It makes me so happy seeing everyone appreciate this new QOTSA album😊 it's so good and can't get enough!
Qotsa are in a league of their own, everything Josh touches musically is gold.
No need to exagerrate, there are better bands out there
@@leob4403 go through their entire back catalogue, how they are live, the consistency over the yrs,I can't think of anyone that does it better
@@leob4403Shutup, you twit. Name one, I’ll wait.
Agreed!! Amazing band, amazing songwriter and yes, they have their own thing.
yes i fell in love with josh homme s guitar sounds already when he was in Kyuss. After the Kyuss split i followed all ex members on their journey. i remember in 1997 bying a sampler CD "burn one... " back then bc it has the qotsa song 18 a.d. on it and i bought the kyuss/ qotsa split EP. in summer 1998 they played the bizarre festival in germany playing new songs from their still to be released album. i recorded the whole set and listened to it outside on my walkman. was great. 🙂
No one can get the idea out of my head that Josh took that "ferrrocious" on Emotion Sickness from chatting with Justin
To everyone saying that QotSA should do a James Bond song, give the song "Nobody to Love" by Josh Homme a listen. Josh made this song for the film End of Watch and it's very good, in typical Josh Homme fashion.
Love your outfit changes.
All the tracks I’ve heard from this new album reminds me so much of the one and only Them Crooked Vultures amazing album.
QOTSA are my all time favourite live band. So much musicianship and atmosphere when you get real close up to them. Talk about perfection.
Love the way you critiqued them ❤
Yeah I agree with you. Josh crushes everything he does. He is one of the best musicians in modern music and if all time for that matter. These guys are so fucking good live it's ridiculous..
Saw them last night in Margate, best show I’ve ever seen them do! Josh didn’t want to stop playing and played I to their curfew and they turned the sound off we could only hear them playing through amps and it was absolutely mental
They also turned off Troy’s amp
Speaking of bond themes! If you haven't already check out Radiohead's bond theme for Spectre that I believe was sent in too late to be used.
A bond theme special would be an amazing video too ranking all of the themes!
Yeah, it was such a travesty that they chose Sam Smith's effort over that. I heard that it was sent in on time but was too dark for that particular film, if you can believe that. I reckon it would have been a perfect fit.
The full new album is superb!🤩
And the video is plenty of thought-provoking content😌 that totally has to do with all has been through Josh last months😔
I hope he's getting well...❤
The new album is magnificent. The lyrics are so poignant. The music has great hooks and is catchy but also heavy and spontaneous.
Indeed... They best album since Era Vulgaris in my opinion. Wasn't expecting it to be.
Well put. No one song leapt out but the album as a whole is just tasty and weird top to bottom. Crunchy guitars, groovier than typical Queens, great production and sound design choices. I felt moments of horror punk, garage, tonal borrowing from the white stripes, the hives, melodic choices like the Beatles. Most of all the spontaneity like you said. Just really interesting choices in tempo and major to minor. The draggy drone-ey octave chords with gnarly effects and being WAY above the mix are awesome and haunting.
Sounds like a desolate gas station on Mars.
Never noticed the Bowie influence in Josh's vocals before, but it's so obvious now you mentioned it.
He released a video during the pandemic for Lollapalooza 2020 doing a garden cover (Literally exactly what it sounds like btw) of "Spinning in Daffodils" and that was the first time people had seen him in a long while so the conquistador look caught everyone off guard. It 100% suits him though. Nice to see he's continued with it.
Justin is one of the musicians I listen to who introduce me to new and brilliant music like this ❤thankyou !

Heard this for the first time watching their Glastonbury set last night. I haven’t been into them much since SFTD, but this stood out. That bass line is all squelchy goodness, and the vocals are tip-top
Surprising! I love SFTD but MAN Like Clockwork is such a good album.
Justin, it's about time you make your way to a desert session. I'm most of us would greatly appreciate that.
The whole album sounds great in Spatial Audio. They're doing some really cool mixing
Josh Homme had a beautiful conversation with Neal Brennan (stand-up & Chapelle Sho co-creator) on his BLOCKS podcast that dropped yesterday. If you’re interested in two extraordinarily talented grown men getting real about their emotional blackages, challenges, life, and making art - which Imma guess you are! - I could not recommend it more highly.
I didn't even know they released an album til a few days ago and i had an hour before work and listened all the way through. No band gives me that feeling of excitmemt and wonder as qotsa. And you my friend are a gentleman and a scholar of rock. Keep being you homie.
Saw them live yesterday. Best show out of the three times I have seen.
I like this channel way way more now. I’ve been obsessed with this album. It’s fucking fantastic
The new Queens album is their best since Songs for the Deaf. Queens have been one of my fave bands since 2000. I’ve never been disappointed with any of their work and this new record is amazing. This single has a Bowie vibe to it 👍🎸
Great reveiw! I really recommend listening to paper Machette, Negitive space and Straight jacket fitting
Mr. Homme is rocking the 'Nathaniel' from Point Break (1991) look.
It is fucking brilliant! You’re right - they do have so much attitude and utter coolness - in the music, and especially on stage.
This song has been stuck in my head for the past 2 weeks. Also, NICE GRADOS.
I am currently sat in my Cardiff hotel waiting to see them for the second time this week 👍
Carnavoyeur, indeed I love how loud it is. I know it's ridiculously well mixed.. Recently they played at Pinkpop, just glorious!!!, the concert tv-registration is still available on youTube I think. Looking forward to go to the concert next week. Peace and Love, jul
they are the absolute best!!! love love love the Queens!!! Josh s voice sounds a lot like David Bowie on this album.AAAhhh
I was lucky enough to see this live on Tuesday! I did feel that this album and villains felt rather clean, too clean, for me... Watching them live COMPLETELY changed that!
I've been waiting for you to cover this! Mainly because when I heard the song and the "bom ba bom ba bom bom bom bom" towards the end, I knew exactly how you would mimic it... and you did exactly that🤣🤣🤣
I picture running into Justin anywhere random and he just grabs a guitar from behind a random object and introduces himself…”Justin Hawkins rides again, aaaagain” the n throws the guitar back into the random and walks on….
✨🎶I love this- Josh’s voice is soo good, and those dark synth sounds are * chefs kiss * perfect.🖤🙌🏻✨🎶
The song and video i think are about Hommes experience processing the fact that he has cancer and his potentially impending death. Like before he beat it. Its him singing about life and death, and the video has a lot of that. I think the bull by the fallen matador represents cancer as it's over his chest. Also when the matador exposes the wound sort of around where his lungs would be. Then as death approaches the matador gets up revealing that the pool of blood is really his red cape and OLES tf outta that reaper
Love Queens of the Stoneage and love your channel Justin. Thank you Sir, you're an absolute tonic! XX
Uncle Josh keep bringing it, been a QOTSA fan for more than 20 years now
I am not a massive rock fan - Reggae and Dub are my bag - but I've always enjoyed Queens - their stuff always seemed to have more swing and groove the most modern rock music - but this album, well it seems they've levelled up again - I mean all their records are great and some are classic - but this is seriously all time classic stuff
Justin, just in case you didn't read this yesterday: Please🙏 give us a guide tour through the pictures and posters on your back wall 😉
PS: oh! I almost forget it, nice cap also!!😊
I’ve been absolutely floored by QOTSA and their latest work 🙌
Saw Josh at the Piece hall in Halifax on Tuesday , was the best gig i've ever been too, they played battery acid for the first time since 2011, made to parade for the first time and in the fade for the first time. Incredible i was stood second row right in front of him.
See you on the ice, eh? 🇨🇦 I’m really enjoying your breakdowns and insights.
Justin doing justice to another excellent review. That would be so cool for QOTSA to do a Bond Theme tune.
'This is really Bowie'. My thoughts exactly the first time I heard it, Justin Hawkins. The whole album drips with Bowie influence and, for me anyway, that's no bad thing at all.
I love the fact that you have pictures of yourself over your wall.. hilarious..i might do that to
I saw QOTSA in MARGATE a couple of weeks ago and they were awesome. Josh was the epitome of a rock god.
Love your on-point analysis. Just subscribed!
A Homme/Hawkins collaboration would be LIT AF 🔥
I saw them on Monday and they blew the roof off the venue, and it was open air!!
Good joke I see what you did there 😒
Queens are the best live band out there!
Hold your horses buddy! You seemed to have forgotten UB40?
And Tool
Derek Trucks Band
I've seen them live 3 times and every time they blew my mind. They truly are mesmerizing live
The Hives are calling
I'm gonna wait a little longer, thanks Josh! And the song is absolutely class.
Got my tickets for THE DARKNESS at the 930 club in DC yesterday. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So stoked to hear new QOTSA. Saw them in '08 with RATM and it was the greatest concert in the history of mankind asterisk. You're right about how incredibly Bowie this is... can't believe I didn't hear it until you said that!
As soon as I heard this song kick off I thought “this is one of the greatest Queens songs of all time”. Absolute OOF! of a song ❤
Well you learn a new thing every day, ostinato, derived from the italian word meaning stubborn or obsitnate. I love playing these, I never knew there was actually a name for them, thanks Justin Sir
JH seems to always point out any ostinato he can find!
These guys just don’t miss. Josh Homme the 🐐 for real and to me he’s also got a pirate/conquistador vibe too.
I can confirm that despite the lyrics and what this represents, its also a slinky, sexy number that is so great to dance to. So many layers.
Saw them play in my hometown on Thursday they were so good, sound was on point and they absolutely crushed it
I wish I understood music theory enough to describe just what it is about the use of Melancholy notes in No One Knows that makes it so awesome. In the chorus, whenever he’s singing, the notes played by the guitar would be extremely sad if played in almost any other context, but in this context, it feels so badass and like it’s driving the point home.
If I could start a band of my own, I’d want to blend that with the sort of chill-to-heavy funk from music by The Deftones.
You're just as talented. I love what the Bond movies do for great artists & music.
I heard this for the first time at the Download festival played on the screens as an advert! Such a great song and so Bowie!!
Was lucky enough to catch them play at Dreamland in Margate last week and it was the best live show I've seen in a long time. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it still, incredible performers.
Im absolutely bloody addicted to this album and this song in particular. I thought that Emotional Sickness was unreal but this song blew me away and made every part of my body buzz! great great album and if you''ve not listed I highly encourage you to smash the f'in hell out of it!!
I can't stop listening to it. And do yourself a favor and listen to it with headphones
Good day everyone it’s Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnn!!! 🎶🎶🔥
Hauntingly beautiful. Absolutely superb. French kiss ❤
I thumbed up this before I even watched it. Wish I can thumb up it a second time. Justin and Stone Age...thumbs ups - no questions or quibbles.
It would be so amazing if Justin and Joshua did a JHRA special. Could actually listen to Joshua and Justin talk for hours. Such eloquent and interesting guys.
They rocked Halifax this week. You should play there Justin - the Piece Hall is a brilliant venue...
Feels like QOTSA have picked up the baton from David Bowie's Blackstar album. Sounds epic.
Honoured to see them this week in Halifax, UK. Still awesome!
I’m glad your space is cleaner. I can breathe watching this
Sweet Mary and moses! A darkness and Queens of the stone age collab would cause the planets to fall from the blanket of space!!
One of my uncles had a Vauxhaull Ostinato... Think I caught a hint of Zorba the Greek in there somewhere.
I've caught a Bowie vibe off of Homme's vocals a few times over the years. I've never actually heard another person bring it up, but I'm glad my friends and myself aren't the only people who have noticed that.
Just chill, Justin. Whether it's excitement or anxiety. You're both artists worthy of your work. ❤❤
Can't wait to see Queens live again
I was thinking what..? At the, they should do a bond theme comment. But then when the song started playing my immediate thought was yeah, they'd make an awesome bond theme and this song really has that feel about it
Dude Justin should show up for Desert Sessions recordings.
Whoa. Idfk how to get a memo to The Powers That Be In The Desert Presiding Over The Sessions, but yeah, that should be a real Thing.
It's certainly the best song they've written since Like Clockwork. Great song.
Fortress was a great song. Evil Has Landed & Villians of Circumstances too!
I dig that you dig my favorite band ! Cheers Justin !
They released it the same day as gizz and I thought what a treat, after listening to both albums I couldn't find a bigger contrast, kyuss and qotsa will always be 2 most my most favourites but gizz are just putting every other rock band to shame even some of my most favs
Fantastic as always - just saw them live in Cardiff absolutely smashed it, love this song Album amazing….
but not as amazing as the Darkness in February of course! 🔥🔥🔥or you collabing……..❤❤❤
Watched QOTSA at Reading in the early 2000s. Awesome band live and in the studio.
Well, i was reading some comments before to add my own comment. I have known this band by you and your channel, and i like them. The comparison with Bowie is very right! They sound different to the stuff that we use to listen currently and it's cool to find something authentic!
One of my favorite bands growing up was GUN and the fact that the former lead singer Mark Rankin does the mixing on this and the last few albums blew my mind. Small world! Worked on the new Rival Sons album also which is an incredible album.
