How to get a super strong "permanent" level 255 Pokémon (Red/Blue)

  • Read description for more information:
    In this video I obtain a hybrid of two glitch Pokémon (hex:E1 and hex:F1) with glitches that don't require linking. You can try others, but this was the best I could immediately think of. If you want to make your own, try merging a Pokémon with a fast experience group (as recipient; byte 2) with a Pokémon that seems to require a huge amount of experience at level 100.
    Glitch Pokémon growth rates: forums.glitchci...
    Hex:F1 will be species byte 2 (the "recipient") and hex:E1 will be species byte 1 (the "donor"). Experience is capped to byte 1, while the growth rate (a.k.a. experience type) is determined by byte 2.
    For normal Pokémon the max experience should correspond to level 100, but it doesn't have to.
    Hex:E1's cap seems to be a ridiculous amount of experience (16160812 or hex:F6982C if it doesn't vary), while Hex:F1 (aka 94) levels up relatively fast, with ~850,000 experience at level 100. You can level this Pokémon up to level 255 and have it not drop levels. The only way to revert it back to a lower level is to level the Pokémon up again with Rare Candies, or theoretically take it into the Day Care. Unfortunately the Pokémon we get will know Flash, meaning Day Care is not an option without using arbitrary code execution.
    The base stats are taken from byte 2 (which is hex:F1). Hex:F1 has the following base stats. HP:142 ATK:142 DEF:139 SPD:147 Special:145. These base stats rival Mewtwo, though Mewtwo has 7 points better Special.
    Walk through of what I'm doing:
    Part 1: Getting 'M (FF) for Pokémon merge glitch:
    --------------
    Prepare a Ditto with the CoolTrainer move (swap 2nd-4th move with first after Transform). You need a 7 letter name, unfortunately. You'll also need a Pokémon with Fly or Teleport and access to Vermilion City.
    To get the end "perma-255" Pokémon, you'll need at least 128 Rare Candies (theoretically you can do the Elite Four many times, but the experience at level 255 is extremely high). Prepare at least 3 Master Balls.
    1) Do the Safari Zone exit (Glitch City) glitch. To do this, enter the Safari Zone, go out to the entrance and say no, save and reset, then go out and say no to activate the glitch (the game will think you're in the Safari Zone when you're not).
    2) Land your last Safari Zone step in Route 1 and enter the Route 1 Glitch City by walking through the exit after you're warped to the Safari Zone entrance.
    3) Open your menu here i.minus.com/jbi..., and Fly/Teleport to Vermilion City. Make sure Ditto is in the first position before you Fly/Teleport away.
    4) Enter Diglett's Cave then enter a battle. Don't open the start menu during this step.
    5) Keep viewing the CoolTrainer move by scrolling on the moves list/opening closing the fight menu until its type changes.
    6) Throw a Master Ball at the opponent to get 'M (FF)
    7) Call it PkPk for part 2.
    8) Open the menu and close it to avoid a freeze before exiting the cave.
    Part 2: Getting hex:E1 and hex:F1
    ----------
    9) Go east of Vermilion City and open your menu here. i.imgur.com/hXz...
    10) Enter a wild Pokémon battle and do the mutation glitch again (apparently depending on your exact name the glitch may only work without a freeze in Diglett's Cave, sometimes it won't).
    11) Switch to "PkPk" (notice Pk is hex:E1) and then back to Ditto again.
    12) Don't open any more menus, then do the mutation glitch again and throw a Master Ball to get hex:E1.
    13) Call it xx (two multiplication signs), because x is hex:F1.
    14) Repeat steps 9-12 but switch to "xx" instead. This will get you hex:F1.
    Part 3: Merging hex:E1 and hex:F1
    -----------
    15) Switch to an empty box and deposit the following Pokémon (the order matters): 1) Ditto, 2) 'M (FF), 3) Hex:E1 (I called it "xx"), 4) Hex:F1
    16) Withdraw Ditto, then withdraw the Pokémon two spaces below Cancel. You've now got a hex:E1, hex:F1 hybrid.
    Part 4: Leveling up
    ------
    17) Rare Candy it up to level 255 (the CoolTrainer gave the Pokémon over level 100). It will stay at level 255 even when you deposit/withdraw it or battle with it. To avoid a potential freeze from one of the Super Glitch moves it learns, Rare Candy in this spot in Celadon Mansion. i.imgur.com/LKS...
    Downside: 94 learns Flash as a starting move. You won't be able to erase it without arbitrary code execution.

    The thing that always astounds me about this game is not how badly you can fuck up the game, but how badly you can fuck up the game and get it to come back to normal. What with all of these glitch battles with cascading text, you'd imagine the overworld to be garbage text and random sprites, but it's perfectly fine afterward. kek liked for having 8f in inventory.

    Again, it amazes me.... After all these years, and things are still being discovered about this game.
    I should figure out some other interesting combos with this.... Also, pardon if I sound stupid for asking. But would something like this work on Missingno.? Maybe it would finally be somewhat (still a bit doubtful about this) viable if it could be used at level 255, in a level 100 environment.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому +8

      Hope you have fun if you do! Regular Missingno. (and 'M) levels up extremely fast, with 345K experience at level 100, so it would make an ideal recipient; however, since the game uses the recipient byte to calculate the base stats, its base stats still wouldn't be that good. Consider that it has base 0 Defense and base 6 Special. In Yellow, regular Missingno. (if you can get it without a freeze), contrastingly seems to have a ridiculously high max experience, making it an ideal donor.

Everything went exactly to plan until step 12. I got a MissingNo. instead of the intended Pokemon and I'm pretty sure it's because of the name I chose was 5 letters. My only question is that is the exact name you chose is the one that has to be used or if it has to just be 7 letters.

    • @Peelster1
      @Peelster1 2 роки тому

      @@GundamReviver Missingno. adds 128 to your 6th item every time you encounter one. It (and other Pokemon) can be encountered by doing the Old Man Glitch. Pokemon encountered and their level are determined based on your name. However, via this method any level 255 Pokemon will revert back to level 100 upon getting enough exp to level up. I think a level 254 would as well, but they require so much more experience to level up, where level 255 is close to experience underflow so they just become 100 after 1 battle. I may not be explaining the level 254 thing and the experience entirely correctly.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      DIODELMETALofficial Hi. Sorry for the late reply.
      CoolTrainer runs when its random name does not have any 50 values in its first 20 characters, which may or may not happen. According to TheZZAZZGlitch where CoolTrainer gets its random name is influenced by the number of 50s in memory, so you could maybe try changing the nickname lengths of the Pokémon in your party (to reduce or increase the number of 50s), TheZZAZZGlitch says that giving more Pokémon 10 letter names may help.
      Yes. Snorlax/Clefable hybrid will work (this is as long as you're giving Clefable a Snorlax sprite), and its maximum level is 116 (1250000 experience). For that reason the Snorlax/Clefable hybrid will sadly not stay at level 150. When you make a hybrid like that, you are free to level to level 101 from a level under 101.
      Sadly I don't know if there is a way to stay at levels beyond 116 after every battle without using a glitch Pokémon as the donor (summary sprite, evolutions, experience cap controlling bytes).
      Hope this helps.

    You see, im trying to obtain glitchmon known as "PokeWTrainer" (Normal/Ground) type pokemon with Mega Rayquaza stats and I wanted to make run with him in OG Pokemon Blue.
    The issue lies within the encounter itself. It crashes the game no matter what I do and gameshark codes dont help either.
    Could you perhaps make a guide as to how to obtain this BEAST?!
    Given, I personally have gave up on even doing this run as a result of game crashing. Ah also, I would rather get it in Pokemon Blue itself, as opposed to finicky emulator trading.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  2 роки тому +1

      Hi ^^, the problem lies with its front sprite. You can get PokéWTrainer with some other glitches.
      One way is by setting up a Trainer-Fly (Mew glitch/Ditto trick) in the Lavender Pokémon Tower with the expanded inventory and the Special stat as 196 as usual. Because item 33 is really the same as the current map, you can encounter the unidentified PokéWTrainer Ghost after depositing your Poké Flute in the PC, then modify item 33 so you're out of Pokémon Tower, allowing you to catch the ghost (PokéWTrainer). (video "Catching the Marowak ghost by adjusting item 33 (Generation I)" )
      Another is Rival LG and the expanded inventory quantity as 196 (I have a video on that in the search called Rival name CoolTrainer/LOL glitch - Get rare normal and glitch Pokémon (Generation I)). You'll need to get the expanded inventory first (see dry underflow glitch), then the specific glitch items. That glitch allows you to get POKéWTRAINER based on the non-existing name character 0xC4, and without ever seeing its front sprite.
      Hope that helps, sorry for the late reply. I only just started going all my comments again.

    Hey, do you know if there's been enough research done on this glitch on other languages of the game? I'm asking because I tried doing this on my Spanish Pokémon Red version, and (predictably) it didn't work.. kinda. Everything seems to work almost the same, save for the fact that the COOLTRAINER♀ move doesn't seem to exist (instead, Ditto's battle menu only shows random garbage), and after the music fades, the Pokémon that gets caught is just a random Missingno. every time, no matter what (I don't know how to check which Missingno. this is, since I play on original hardware on a Gameboy Pocket). After catching Missingno., my 6th item multiplies.
    I mean, I know it was obvious it wasn't going to work, but I decided to try anyways because why not lol. Do you know if there's a possibility of manipulating this same glitch to get Charizard 'M? Or any glitch to obtain Charizard 'M at all in the Spanish version, other than trading?

    I though the only way to have level 255 pokémons is by putting the "9" character in your name (by using 8F), encounter a level 255 pokémon with the old man trick and use the 8F catch them all script.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      Oh. No, if a Pokémon is already above level 100 (through old man glitch or CoolTrainer) you can Rare Candy it (and if the exp is not capped at 100, you can level it above 100 in battle). You could also mod the catch em all script to write to D127 (before battle level modifier). Getting the TM55 item would make things harder, so you'd probably need a line of junk code to make that a quantity of 255; or play with other registers.

      Generation III hex:0000 will appear as an empty slot and can be used to access Pokémon beyond slot 6 in Emerald, even outside of battle if you hack one in the first position of the party, but I haven't seen it hide Pokémon, and you can't make hybrids with it.

    I think Xu-Xu is the strongest glitch... iirc it's the Glitch mon with the highest balanced base stats that's obtainable w/o GSC.
    I'd love to merge him with something for the true strongest Pokemon.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      Yes. You can do that if you merge it with a regular Yellow Missingno. (you'd need Special stats of 196 and e.g. 31 respectively for the Ditto trick, as you likely know). Unfortunately the game may freeze before the battle with Yellow Missingno. I think you could maybe play around with remaining HP glitch (unfortunately requires a box 1 that was never filled) to get a Pokémon with the CoolTrainer move as move 1 though, and then get a Yellow Missingno that way. Or you could just trade Missingno. over from Red/Blue. If so, the resulting Pokémon would obey you because its ID and OT will be of the recipient (X x), not the donor (Missingno.).

    • @chipan9191
      @chipan9191 5 років тому

      I used Pokemon E3 on yellow to get a powerful hybrid. You can obtain it by trading skiploom with the guard glitch. When I used it with Mewtwo I was able to increase its Max level to 237. Not 255 but good enough for me. If you use Xu Xu, I'm sure you can do it to 255 because it's a lower exp cap than Mewtwo.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      I don't know what you mean, sorry. You can hybridize valid 'real' Pokémon like Mewtwo and Chansey together. You can't change their types (like Fire, Water, etc.) with this. You can change a Pokémon's types (in memory) via this Get any flawless DV and max stat experience Pokémon (Generation I) . Though the game says on a Pokémon's summary screen that it has the original types, the actual type effectiveness in battle is changeable. The problem with using that glitch in the link above this way is that you'd need something like specific experience points for the types you want. These things are not easily changeable.
      There is a solution though. You can write your own code with 8F or -g m (or ws m for Yellow) spelled out with items (more information here forums.glitchcity.info/index.php?topic=6638.0 you'd need a specific bootstrap code to make the game jump to items). You could also do this with a custom map script Custom map script (Generation I, arbitrary code execution)

      Yes. X ウ - xウ has the medium-fast growth rate and Kabutops has the slow growth rate, so if you make a Kabutops/X ウ - xウ (merge X ウ - xウ with Kabutops) you can make it level above 100 and have X ウ - xウ's base stats. I'm not sure what its maximum level would be though.

      Yeah, PokéWTrainer and the rest of the #205s (base stat total 788) have most base stats greater than 94's base stats. Notably the 205s' base HP is 232. Unfortunately its front sprite freezes the game and there's no known way to get it with CoolTrainer.

      Yes (if you remove Flash with memory viewer so the Day Care man can take it), but Day Care (and probably Stadium/2) is/are probably the only ways. Fighting with it or depositing it and withdrawing it doesn't stabilize it.

    • @GlitcherRed

      It will stabilize into Slowpoke if you let it evolve. Then it'll probably level down to 100 if you let it gain experience in battle.

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      Glitcher Red I forgot about evolution, but yes; however, unless it's lower than level 255, you probably need Rare Candies because the cap seems to be somewhere at level 255.

      ***** So no stable level 255 pokemon?

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      J1h7e7 I haven't experienced level 255 permanence with stable Pokémon before. You can get level 255 stable Pokémon with Rare Candies, but they'll likely revert to 100 after a battle. With Yellow regular Missingno. its experience formula is (1/10)n^3 - 75n^2 +95n - 32. Put that into Wolfram Alpha and its experience is always negative www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%281%2F10%29n%5E3+-+75n%5E2+%2B95n+-+32. Even if you could get level 255, you'd gain positive experience (except for times when it reverts to F6 39 EC or 16136684 from a higher number) and maybe lose level(s).
      But I haven't seen it ever gain levels in battles before from level 1. Glitcher Red do you know of a way to make it over level 1 after battle; like what experience for D178 should Yellow Missingno. have, and what should it gain in battle?

    • @S3lvah
      @S3lvah 7 років тому

      2 years later... I don't think you've done this one yet, so here's me tossing an idea: You could make a video about Hex F1 (aka. 94) and its quirks, such as the back sprite that varies depending on the defending Pokémon at the time it's sent out. (For example, 94 being sent out against a Pidgey or Geodude gets the game stuck.) I added some of this to Bulbapedia quite a while ago, but I wasn't knowledgeable enough to explore very far or deep into the mechanics.
      You could also expand this idea and make theme videos about any interesting Glitch 'Mons (Glitch Pokémon of the Week -style.)

      The base stats/growth rates of the evolved Pokémon are worse than 94 (hex:F1); which is the Pokémon we use for the base stats/growth rates; a worse growth rate also means a lower maximum level for the experience cap taken from E1 (the Pokémon is a hybrid of E1 and F1).

    Question: What did you do to get to 3:50?

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому +1

      Either keep 'scrolling' down on the fight menu or keep opening and closing the fight menu, with the "-" move as the first move (which you can get by swapping the position of move 2-4 with move 1 while Ditto is under Transform). When it starts to work the type will change. This depends on luck, it may take several tries. To get this result (Charizard 'M, FF) you need to open your menu in that particular spot in Route 1 Glitch City, Fly to Vermilion City and never open it afterwards. This result does not depend on your name.
      Later, when you follow the steps to get hex:E1 and hex:F1 you do need a seven letter name, however, because it affects what gets printed in x=01, y=06; the coordinate that affects the enemy species byte; CFD8 (i.e. the second letter of the Pokémon's name). Also, the third character of your name must have an even index number (refer to this list glitchcity.info/biglist.htm) to avoid a freeze. You can have a 7 letter name with an odd index number for the third character; but to avoid a freeze you have to do the glitch in Diglett's Cave and open the start menu before using the ladder/etc to escape.

    • @DrawnToast
      @DrawnToast 9 років тому

      ***** OK, I think I did the glitch wrong, because I still didn't get the Normal Type glitch move, yet I still followed what you said to do during the Diglett battle...

    • @ChickasaurusGL
      @ChickasaurusGL  9 років тому

      Pokemon Trainer Ruby Unfortunately something unknown causes all CoolTrainer tricks to stop working (but I don't know if there's a small chance it may work), because the game takes something like a name that is supposed to have a 50, and early 50s (a 50 in the first 20 characters) make the glitch not work. (continued..)
      Changing to an empty box or a nearly empty box is said to help, but not always; I once had CoolTrainer take its name from my party Pokémon, causing it not to work. I suggest playing with the boxes and testing if the most simple version of the glitch works (opening the Pokémon menu within battle before viewing the CoolTrainer move and doing the scrolling/opening and closing the fight box and hoping for the Pokémon to change; this gives Missingno. or Horsea.) If that works, then the glitch may start to work; but I'm afraid I can't guarantee it. Also, I don't know if it's a coincidence; but the hex:E1 and hex:F1 yields seem to be harder; as in you're less likely to get the Pokémon to change.
      Other than that, I don't doubt you haven't, but make sure you last opened the Pokémon or items/Pokédex etc. menu in the correct spot. Let me know if you get it to work. A sure fix is to delete your save (I'm not sure to what extent up+select+b does this though) and then cheat the requirements, but unless you like playing with glitches you could just use 01E164D1 01F16BD1 01FE8CD1 to change your first party Pokémon to this hybrid at level 254, then use a Rare Candy to get the proper experience and stats.
      By the way, the type may change to something other than Normal; and it still means the glitch worked. The music may also fade out or something.
