ProfessorCosmic, Thanks for your kind words. We still have a handful to post, so keep your eyes peeled. Be sure to share these with anyone you think would be interested!
All_Paths_Lead_To_Singularity That's true, makes me wonder if human nature is about balancing enough critical thinking to look at things objectively while still being able to express for human err/heuristics (such as having feelings like love or fear, establishing a personal identity, etc.)
I am going to share this video with my seventh and my ninth grader. They are doing quite a bit of reading and writing at school, including book reports, and this is surely gonna help them become better thinkers and writers. You, sir, are providing a great service by posting this here. I know that they will eventually cover this concept before they graduate, but teacher's lectures aren't always as clear as this presentation.
A middle schooler and a freshman in High School are learning critical thinking? Wow! That's so awesome! I never took a critical thinking course until right now and I'm at the University!
Schools never teaches this ... And parents think their children knows everything because they are educated But at some point in the life literally they are fucked up because of lack of CT skills and problem solving inability.😢 Quite painful😑
benmac2112 Absolutely without QUESTION this should be a fundamental skill imparted to all young students. The ability to think critically could replace entire categories of knowledge that would be seen as obvious to anybody with sufficiently strong reasoning capabilities. The ludicrousness of believing the earth is flat, for example, would be rejected outright by anybody who understood a few basic facts such as the theory of gravitation, trigonometry and centripetal force and, by virtue of strong logical faculties, understands the relationship of these facts to one another and how they apply collectively to preclude a flat earth. In short- yes. Lol
Fantastic video. Definitely the best tutorial on critical thinking I've seen so far. I wish it had subtitles, though. It's hard for my non-native speaker students to understand with just audio prompts (though your slides and animations help immensely), and UA-cam's auto-caption software isn't useful for purposes outside of humor!
***** Critical thinking: an ability that a ton of people lack, no matter how many facts you throw out they choose to be willfully ignorant *cough* ESPN *cough*
It was erroneously drummed into me my presumed "perfectionism" was strange. When in fact I enjoy and I am good at solving puzzles. The cogs in my brian left to cogitate work best alone. This lesson explains the stimuli behind my particular peccadillo. Houston, we have lift off.
You decide for yourself what is right, and what is wrong. But the question remains, Will you decide correctly? And you decide what is right or wrong, based on what you believe is good, or bad.
It's funny how many of the people I've met who claim to be critical thinkers, really just passively accept arguments given to them other people who claim to be critical thinkers.
I think the best Critical Thinking is when you have evidence to prove reason of thought or action. A good example is in the video when the boss ask two employees the same question on how to improve the company advertisement for more profit the upcoming year and the young lady waited a day to respond in which she presented facts from research. The young man eager to please gave no thought, just blurted what he thought was best (hoping he would be recognized for a speedy response) and what his boss wanted to hear.
Aaron, do you have any corresponding printed notes, worksheets, etc., for young students? (K-8) If so, where and how do I get them? If not, have you ever considered it? Thanks.
(Wanting to seem you're on top of things you respond quickly). The quick responder often gains much credibility by the recipient, whereas the one offering a careful, deliberate response may be looked down upon as hesitant, lacking knowledge / expertise or plain indecisive. The critical thinker, however, may appreciate the deliberate response. Just thinking out aloud...
Columbus was trying to reach India! People have known the earth was round for thousands of years. There might have been flat earthers then (as there are now) but everyone with a shred of learning knew it was round.
Pretty much the best way to determine if someone is just claiming to be a critical thinker. A critical thinker would check if an argument he makes is actually true or just hearsay.
There were three other students in the group, not four other students (assuming all students that were in the group were shown, including myself -- after thinking about it critically). How can I believe anything else you said if you go this wrong! Just kidding. I was gonna say, "Great Summary of Critical Thinking" but then I thought critically about it and decided I had no great reason to believe it was a great summary of critical thinking. Instead, I will say thank you for your summary of critical thinking. PEACE
Aaron -- I teach Critical Thinking at Dixie State University, would you be willing to make a presentation in my class if you are in the St. George area some time?
+Konoyaro Bakayaro I thought exactly the same thing and had to relisten because I couldn't believe what he said. It turns out he actually said "Consider the claim made in the days of Columbus", and not necessarily that "Columbus sailed east", but rather that "ships sailing east from Europe..." I'm not sure if that was intentional, or a lucky play on words. But my brain registered exactly your words as well.
Nice video, thank you. However I cannot share it as the graphics and examples in two key places go against one of my critically reasoned beliefs and I see this as an attempt to subliminally squash an entire movement.
we are always over thinking...our normal habit of thought is non stop thinking but familiar so somewhat comfortable...creating a new habit of thought may feel uncomfortable and like we are over analyzing but once it becomes normal it most likely won't feel like over thinking or exhausting rather.
Overthinking is usually panicky, repeated and takes a long time to reach any clear conclusions. Though I’m still wondering whether anxiety thoughts have any value despite the emotional toll they have. They are pretty quick to be fair, so they go through a lot, but part of that lot is the repeated, panicky stuff.
Thank you for the information shared. See how much time and energy we spend fighting to impose our misguided views on others can be saved by applying evidenced and therefore credible approaches.

Thank you so much. This is the best explanation about critical thinking ever!! please let me know if you gonna up load the new version again. :)
Best tutorial on critical thinking! Helped a lot to understand what really critical thinking is.
THANK YOU!! needed this as i am starting this course for my last semester, and didn't know what critical thinking was in terms of like a course
Critical thinking is about to reach the conclusion by thinking logically, considering all facts, eliminating the bias
Tarun Bissa hehehe bias= human nature itself.

I think this should be add to every classroom .
This should be taught in every school
Teaching kids "How" to think instead of "what" to think would be an amazing step towards advancing our species.
flopperdilly9 I could not agree more
Ehh no one is actively advocating for it.
We're fucked.

Outstanding!!!!
I wish more people - esp from dangerous ideologies -could employ critical thinking. It is so rare.
We major in English and we have a module called study skills we really dealt with the critical thinking😍😍

+Mark Wright I like these questions
Cool video! I have to watch for my critical thinking class.
A great video for a segment of Critical Thinking...good job!
Great presentation bro thank you so much
The subtitle is too fast. :(
Critical thinking suggests one thinking about his thinking as to be able to arrive at a less questionable conclusions.
Excellent presentation, should be mandatory grade school prep for life.
The video was great, thanks!! It has helped a lot.
People ask “how do I think Critically?” I ask what is the end goal or the ultimate reason for engaging in the process anyways?
So you answer the question with a question?
This video, this explanation is perfect and now i can explain it to another person that good was the explanation. Thank u 💙
Very well done.
Taking a critical thinking class soon for an AS in Health Information Technology. this was helpful
cool video!!! congrats :D

Ahem. *I've
Great teacher with great subject matter !
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Every one graduating any school should have a certain level of critical thinking .
Great Video!

Climate Change is one of my favorite issues for critical thinking.
I am a climate scientist earning the same amount as a waiter. Think critically in all dimensions
Thank you for this video!
awesome :)
At the 3:00 mark, Did you mean sailing WEST from Europe?
Well explained!
wondering if they're boss will look at both ideas with critical thinking in mind.
Cactus Caticus their, NOT they’re!
Your boss will probably looking at your grammar.
Love the video. What program did you use to create this?
Nicely done!
Critical thinking: the process of giving an answer without actually giving an answer.
Hello Mr. Aaron
thanks very much for this interesting Episode
is it possible to have the power point slides ?
It was awesome information and explanation.
Thank you.
Agreed
very helpful
Thank you very much ^^
Wow 🙏🏿
I've learn this in my 6th and always saves my ass out of problems
good video, did you make this?
A class that has a group project worth 50% of your final grade is the worst class ever.
Sam Willis So fucking true
LMFAOOO TRUEE
How does that relate to critical thinking? 😑
Great...
I took a critical thinking class when I first started high school and I got a B.

Can you give me the link of the subtitles? I would like to translate this video into my mother language (Vietnamese) and share it to my friends.

i have learning disabilities and i'm really stressed and its hard for me to retain information i really hope stuff like this helps
There are inherited truths as well as opinions.

Schwarzer Ritter Columbus did
can someone summarize this movie please, need help!!!
great argument skill requires critical thinking.
Obviously the narrator did not write this. Also great graphics!
Nobody in Columbus' day thought the world was flat.
Plus he said sail east lol
There are people even now who think the world is flat
THANK U SOOOOOOOOO MUCH
Can you please giveme some notes of Use of logic ..thankq
I came here for the definition.

God Bless You
My sense of critical thinking tells me you should not have said "saw" but "seen" at 00:57

Inherited opinion: telling someone that someone can rise from the dead and walk on water.
Look up Christian Apologetics. Christian philosophers/apologists who actually use reason and logic to provide arguments for their belief.
Something people in 2019 no longer know how to do 😑
Yeah.
That kinda includes you tbh
No offense tho

+Aaron Dewald Okay Aaron -- good to know. Thank you for this video it is excellent.
I have a reason to believe that we do not live on a spinning ball like science told us, however I believe in the biblical shape of the earth.
What does the Bible say about the structure of the earth?
Yes I feel the same way it should be taught and every class
thanks
i love this now i know critical thinking
to solve problems properly and fully do agree, or to disagree.

wonder if the narrator realizes he said sailing east, when it is west
9:34 if it’s inherited then it tends to become traditional
how would one reference this information though
I'm wanting to know the same thing. I am using some of this in an assignment and need to cite it.

Can we get a tl;dr?

How do we account for reason. How do we know that reason is reasonable. We don’t. It’s just an assumption
INTPs do this naturally with ease.
