It is as if you knew EXACTLY what I would be learning in my first year Critical Thinking course. Thanks for the upload! On a sidenote, your voice is very easy to listen to!
This helps my learning ability because I'm taking an online class and the only medium of 'earning is through reading. This video is very helpful. Thank you

Nice. I'm from Jamaica as well.. This was very helpful for a refresher. I'm actually looking for material for my little sister to watch when I came across this. She's in 3rdform.
I wish you make more useful and valuable educational content like this more. It is really comprehensive and perfect! I love the explanation and the details you put there.
Thanks to these short videos I'm finishing my AA with an excellent grade point average. I'm going to keep watching them while earning Bachelors next year. ;D
It might be a good idea to change the examples in this vid and reupload it. Arguments, whether inductive or deductive, do not consist of opinions as premises or subjective interests as conclusions, which is why I'm concerned because people in the comments are using the information in this video on their exams at school. Also, arguments whose premises prove the conclusion are still inductive since its always possible, even if improbable, that there are other unknown premises that would alter the conclusion. It's only with deductive arguments that that is not possible. There were also examples of inductive arguments at the end of the vid that were actually deductive, such as applying general principals to specific claims, as well as the definition given of causal reasoning.
Hey Aaron! I've had trouble getting the difference between inductive and deductive, and I have a psychology test tomorrow. This video really saved my day, and hopefully my test. Thank you!
It's an awesome video !!!! Clear and easy to understand, the simple example related to our daily life. Thanks for your video, it's really helpful to my quiz about inductive & deductive argument. This video makes me have a great revision on the topic.
The fact that the existence of anything can be argued for or against inductively is evidence that anything can exist. This is because all inductive arguments have probabilistic outcomes.
My school (Ohio Christian University) referred me to this video as part of my assignments, but being Deaf and having the automatically generated captions from UA-cam made it impossible to understand. Is there a way for you to either caption the video, or even put a transcription in the description, so future Deaf, or those that need captions for other reasons could enjoy and learn from it as well, please? Thank you!!
Hmm. This explanation of deduction seems to imply that deductive arguments could not contain opinions (or values) as premises. That is not correct. "All humans are sinners, all sinners are people who will be damned, therefore all humans are people who will be damned" is a (valid) deductive argument. Of course, we can't determine whether it is sound because we can't tell whether the premises are true or false.
This video is helpful, however it may give the mistaken impression that deductive arguments always use "facts" or "evidence" whereas inductive arguments always use "opinions." Both are false. Deductive arguments can include entirely normative premises, e.g.: "We should always eat at the tastiest restaurant available, the Iguana is the tastiest restaurant available, therefore we should eat at the Iguana." Inductive arguments can include entirely empirical/factual premises, e.g.: "Restaurant A closes by 10, Restaurant B closes by 10, therefore all restaurants in town close by 10."
Under “The second premise (opinions):” slide # 2 is not an opinion. I cannot see it as not a fact. The more classes you take the faster you will get done
I believe it's when you can't acquire arguments that are conclusive and fact-based, then you must use inductive arguments that are as adequate as possible.
Subjective experience is not true? I know that I do not enjoy eating candy because it makes me feel unwell. I also know that I assosiate good emotions with eating candy. So I choose to eat candy. Why is this not a deductive argument? Lets leave hyperbolic discounting out of the equation.
Hi Aaron. This video is just eye opening, easy to follow and very informative. Thank you for sharing. I was just wondering if there was anyway to get the slides so I can remember all you taught us in this video series. Much appreciated.
Becky Hernandez I just cannot imagine, a university leftist, teaching critical thinking. That’s like a fish teaching the principals of flight. I’m not trolling...I’m actually on the verge of tears, because this is reality. The cultural marxists seem to have achieved their goals.
My only issue is I found this vid two years after my Critical Thinking class otherwise, thank you for your use of straight forward "regular people speak" and not the academic blah blah blah I had to weed out in order to understand what you've presented in < 10 minutes. Seriously academia ... Get off your asses and learn to teach in the 21st century and not the 18th!
M AD Are they not the most useless, clueless collection of frauds ever gathered in one place? I’m referring to the pseudo intellectual professors in our Marxist universities. It was a horrible experience. I changed schools three times until I finally found one with professors that had the bare minimum requisite of any person, let alone a teacher, common sense. It was a nightmare and a complete scam.
The definitions offered in this video are non-standard, so I cannot recommend it. In particular, within the first four minutes students are given the impression that valid arguments have to have true premises. This has not been the case for the past 2,000 years.
LarryFike what good is a valid argument if the premises are not true. Jesus Christ, what the fuck did these leftist cunts in academe do to your brain. You’ve become one of them.

Yes, and deductive reasoning is based on the structure of the argument itself...

thanks for the video
yes
thanks for this video, it makes a lot more sense now!
Best teaching method
excellent explanation of inductive argument.
I'm confused. It is possible for a deductive argument to be invalid but if that is the case wont it be inductive?
