20 minute Full Body Standing Strength Workout with Dumbbells | Seniors, Beginners

- This 20 minute full body strength workout will build muscle in your arms, legs, back, and core. We use dumbbells with these standing exercises, but you can use anything with weight such as water bottles or cans. The goal is to use weight that is challenging for you.
The 7 exercises are done in 30-second intervals. Aim to do 8 to 12 repetitions during each interval. We do two rounds of the exercises.

✳️ Mini sumo squats
✳️ Rows with a tricep kickback
✳️ Reverse lunges
✳️ Bicep curls
✳️ Wood Chops
This workout can be done at least twice a week on its own or with another yes2next workout.

Thank you for this! I'm a breast cancer survivor and am currently in chemical menopause for the next 5-10 years and my body feels older than I am because of it. I've been looking for workouts I can do to loosen up and build muscles back up and there aren't many. I used to be able to do more and it's so hard finding workouts that I can do to build my body back up (many are geared toward young, already-in-shape people without joint issues). This was one I could do and gives me so much hope that I can workout and do strength training again.

Me too. I’m recovering from a long illness and now have adrenal fatigue so I feel pretty awful for the last two years. I’m trying to get my strength back and heal my adrenals. I started with your 10 minute walking workout on 3/7/23. It is now 4/12/23. I do your 20 minute walk and 20 minute strength with dumbells 4 times a week. Thank-you for being patient! My BP is now NORMAL and my heart rate has dropped 20 beats per minute. I was "scared" because of my heart rate back in March. Today, my heart rate was 72 beats per minute, down from an average of 95. You two are the best!!!!!

I love these two ladies and the incremental movement toward small goals, then larger. Even though I belong to a very nice athletic club, I still love to work out with Iko and April. These two gals have helped me come out of a long standing depression, because they gave me goals I could approach, then master, then move on. It's as if I am having two friends over and no matter how messy my house might look, I can just tune into one of these videos, do some exercises, then find my vim and verve to get on with my housework. Iko and April are the best deal going. Very thankful and grateful to have found them.

I did this weight workout for first time today. I heard on radio that weights or resistance training very important to maintain function. I am 73 years old. I walk daily but will add this workout too. It was very enjoyable

I would love to see more of these full-body strength workouts using dumbbells. 20 minutes seems to be an ideal time for me, too. I have been working out for just over 4 years, but am always on the lookout for fun and interesting videos like yours. I try to avoid getting in a rut with my routines, and your approach to the workout is heartening to me.

With chronic sciatica & spinal problems going to the gym is not good. Finding your channel, I’m hoping I can do some fitness at home without ending up bed ridden.

I started my workout today with this "new to me" strength workout, and it was great! I was able to do all the dumbbell exercises using 5-pound dumbbells, including doubling them up for the sumo squats, and I did the full workout. Yet another to add to my favorites list! I followed it up with a 15-minute cardio workout + cooldown. Very effective!👍🙂

I absolutely love Iko and April. They are very gentle yet I feel as though I'm getting a good workout in. I'm 60 years old and I have over one hundred pounds to lose and I'm still able to get a good workout in. I'm actually starting to feel like I'm accomplishing something. Their videos also encourage me to do more exercises. I'm feeling more confident. I actually walked up and down four flights of stair here at my apartment building (very slow of course). And I just did this video at home. I go to the gym at my local senior center and I do other exercises while I'm there. And, I'm also starting to see results. My abdomen is starting to feel tighter, my arm and leg muscles are starting to tighten up and my hips are starting to feel smaller. Oh, and I've lost 15 pounds! Oh, and I can't forget the cat! I LOVE YOU IKO, APRIL, AND YOUR CAT! 🙏🙏💜💜🥳🥳

Hi both. Have just done this workout with just 2lb dumbbells as have funny right shoulder. Really good. Then followed with your 10 mins walking one. You both make it fun and explain well. Thanks so much xx

This is one of my favorite YS2Next videos. I almost have the dialogue memorized! I have Parkinson's disease, and have become very aware of the many times during the day when I am called upon to take one or more steps backwards. Thank you for including exercises which help with this.

Exhale as you exert yourself in an exercise and inhale as you release. For example, in the Row and Tricep kickback move, exhale as you pull the weight up and kick it back, and inhale as you bend your elbow and lower the weight down. We'll be sharing a video on breathing soon! ❤️
