Cold oil is also thicker oil, which gives more pressure, but won't flow nearly as fast. The best oil I've found is Penrite 10/Tenths Racing. I run it in a turbo engine with 169,000 Kilometres on it, the spec is 5W-30, I run 10W-40 just to take to cushion any wear on the bearings. The highest temp it sees, on a hot summer day, with 18PSI of boost is right at 100 degrees C. I asked Penrite if I needed an oil cooler and they said 100C is right where they like to see it. Any contaminants get obliterated instantly. If I see 110-120C, time for a cooler. I have 40PSI at idle, hot. It isn't a Mopar, but it's fast as hell and more fun than a nudie girl in the back seat of a Charger! Love your work, Chris, you're an inspiration, even to us driving factory Race Altered Subarus ; )-
Your General Lee is a damn nice car. I loved it even with the old engine. I’m not busting your balls but sometimes you drive this car though like you are mad at it....LOL I will also say I think you’re one hell of a driver, tuner, mechanic, body man, fabricator, highly skilled!
Your videos are awesome i have learned a lot from them my big brother had a 1971 dodge charger with a 318 back in 1987 when I was 7 and i loved it ty so much for your awesome videos
At 3min+ in when your describing people asking if this has a 426, you can say yes. I had to LOL cuz I seen your video title but seen the engine image without the spark plug wires into the center of valve cover so was scratching my head as your engine didn't look like any 426 hemi I've seen. So not only do you get to laugh and not lie when asked, it actually caused me to check out your video too.
I have my own channel on here and just getting started with my first crappy video lol . I have a 82 dodge d150 and my project car a 65 dodge dart . I like watching Nicks garage , scotts speed shop and talking with Jed and also watching your channel and UTG and a few others . I love chargers as well . been a fan of the dukes and the general since age 5 now 43 .
Cool, my tow rig is a 77 Plymouth Gran Fury 2 door, ex-detectives car. Does just fine, I pull 14mpg with the 318 2 bbl dual exhaust. very comfortable compared the trucks. great Video, I learned some stuff!
I put a 413 in my 57 ply. wound up with edelbrock aluminum heads. have shorty headers holley 700cfm carb, mild cam. the car now screams. there's something special about those motors they respond very well to improvements. they're easy to find, and relatively cheaper.
I knew a guy when I was in high school in the early 70s that had a 70 charger hemi but it was a pos and always broke down or over heated almost every time we went riding around. I had a 65 GTO that I bought for 650$.
Great video man. I had a 69 charger 440 4spd put 276 gears in it for a road trip got super gas mileage 780 holly vacuum secondary’s holly street dominator intake crane cam close to stock but I wasn’t any way near that horse power 👍
NGK plugs 👍. your timing plays a part in how hot your engine gets. also on that set issue switch to a thick cow hide seat cover hog ringed to the seat dyed black . that leather takes a beating and you can go through the window 😎🤘
If you wanted to get a little crazy with your 426 wedge, you could put Ramcharger heads on it. Notch the cylinder walls to just above the compression ring and 1.88 ex valves clear. And 10.5:1 compression stock HP cast pistons from the 60s can safely take .070 cuts for a .600 lift cam with huge duration. Run 5.13 gears and 31" tall slicks it'll scream the 1/4 @ 7500 RPM 1st 2nd and traps at 7300!!! Just sayin.
I love how he explains basically trying to keep the heat out of the motor and the intake charge is cool as possible, what we need to see is an air cleaner housing like NASCAR style that pulls air from the firewall at the bottom of the windshield or typical 70s twin snorkel tubes running to the front of the car for cold air and ceramic coat the air cleaner?!!!😆🏁💥👍👽👨🔧🤣
Dude I need you to go ahead and go rescue the General from Whistlin Diesel before he destroys it. Thanks for going into detail about your builds, I really dig it.
B block 400’s with a 440 or 500 cube crank would be kewl for torque in that car. My buddies 400 made 525 HP and 550 torque on the engine dyno with the Trick Flow cam and top end kit
Love what you do. Wondering, with all the thought you put into cooling the engine with the coatings and coolers, that your not cool air ducting the carb, that open element air filter must be sucking in alot of hot air
What up bro, really appreciate you took the time to give us a solid update. I was drinking a beer watching this video and i was just starting to feel like we are at a car show 😃😷😔and you’re telling me about the car ! OK maybe I smoked a little weed too 🚬😎 💨💨 Cheers 🍻🍺
Your lobe separation is why you are seeing 10 MPG towing. Also, everything you just said about carb tuning is why MOST people are far ahead with EFI... With all the traveling you do with GL, you should have it too!! All the elevation changes you are making continuously change what your engine needs. Sticking to Vegas, a carb is all good.
That misfiring cylinder was probably the ceramic coating burning off. Once saw a video of a guy on here and he coated his piston tops and ran it for an hour. Took his heads off and all 8 pistons were bare metal.
Twin snorkel Mopar air cleaner with proper motor tin and paint ceramic coat the inside of the air filter housing drop in a high flow specter or K & N... Then twin snorkel tubes that accordion DS that they use in the seventies running to the front of the car or pull it from the inner fenders to the left and right of the radiator instead of that heat induction extraction unit that's sitting on top of that controled fuel leak.
Do you run a oil thermostat? I put a 180 oil thermostat in my duster, oil temps stay 185 pretty consistenty.... earls oil thermostat, and dual 12" span fans
The hotter the exhaust temperatures the slower the flow of exhaust. You're Robbin from Peter to pay Paul.. either way cool setup but with the large exhaust it's a win-win... Just saying. Let's see how well it works in cold temperatures with the heater on 😆
General tow vehicle? pretty cool but what the hell happened to patina being the tow vehicle lol.... All that subframe work effort? Let's hope the general gets the same subframe connector job that patina got, since now she's the tow vehicle. Between the jumping projects and roadkill interference and given this isn't really a TV show and this guy does a pretty damn good job of putting up video clips of what he's working on at the time but man s*** switches around and jumps around so much Chris is right, he doesn't have a film crew or editor but I'm sure if he did and he did a circle track Channel and then a metal work Channel for advertising for his income because he does such an awesome job at his craft the rest of it's just fun money spending bologna that anybody can do... And of course what makes the pot sweet is the fact that it's Chargers. Gave up on graveyard cars gave up on roadkill gave up on engine Masters because there's absolutely no point to any of it except for opinionated money spending with no real purpose... How little can you spend how much can you spend nothing creative about throwing money at crap. Roadkill...Let's have some fun driving a wheelbarrow from California to Louisiana 👎. Good news is Chris didn't sell out, he still does his own thing and everybody else including roadkill rides his shirt tails... Same thing with Jed@ Scott speed shop... Does his own thing and is definitely NOT a sellout and him and his Dad kick ass.q Gave up on regular TV, not like these guys are contracted to produce anything so this is just out of their own free will to share what they do which is pretty damn cool. And of course.. .Constructively the most enjoyable thing on junker up is his road trips and hanging with his buddy from South Dakota and metal work... Something about Chris driving the general at 94 mph just cruising along listening to that motor hum or Jed tooling with old school speed parts...is cool. Thx guys for all that you do.
Do snowflakes bitch at you about the rebel flag? I live in NC and just a few years ago almost every house had a rebel flag and now you don't see one anywhere. Love your cars and videos btw. P.S. 10 mpg for towing a car isn't bad at all my aunt has a new Chevy Traverse that only gets 18 mpg, it does have almost 300 hp but its not really fast.
Poor boy race motor, hone it and fresh rings give the same effect as low tension race rings. Use Castrol 40w hd and also first oil change use one quart microlon. None of that magic make your motor past forever mystery super oil works, but microlon does, it stops normal wear, now:breaking a rod at 10,000 rpm nothing stops that... Back in the day folks would mow your grass with a push mower that had been microloned, with the engine oil drain plug out. No oil.. it was military number for years. Used to cost $100 a quart,I haven't bought any lately.
You deserve to have one to beat on , ,because you have saved so many chargers. But it makes me sad because I know if I could get one , id be so happy to have one , I'd be scared to kill it. Don't worry about all these mean messages , they don't own any chargers and there just talking sheet. Wow rev limiter ? You? That's restraint chris
I really enjoy your videos but I have to say that you lost me when you were talking about the carburetor tuning. My uncle would say well if you can't dazzle them with brilliance then baffle them with bullshit.

Same problem with the SD cards. To bad they weren't as big as VHS tapes lol. Your the man Chris.
You don't have to explain man. Your channel rocks. Just like your cars and work. Keep moving forward your an inspiration!
If people don't like your videos tell him to take a hike I love them
Purge the beginning of this video, I am with you post what you are doing have any given moment, still has high entertainment value and learning

If you think about it they have the same bore size as some brand x big blocks and they run pretty damn good.
Well worth the good chat. I'll keep watchin watever your working on, no worries. love all those Chargers.
Love the General Bud. Awesome engine!! 413, to 426. Great job. When u do interior. It will be really nice.
" Good to go!" Part had me LMFAO. Thanks, Chris. Happy holidays
Love you fix and drive them!

Hey Chris thanks for the video I enjoyed it and I wish I knew how much you know about engines myself
Great carb tuning info thanks.
First time watching you. Enjoyed it!
Chris, you should use an electric vacuum pump off a late model Ram or Jeep Wrangler.
In the last video U touched on painting the inside of the motor for better oiling I'm sure I've seen people using enamel paint white.
Beautiful Charger!
Dude I need you to go ahead and go rescue the General from Whistlin Diesel before he destroys it. Thanks for going into detail about your builds, I really dig it.
426 wedge engine, it was an RB engine.
The 383, 413, 426 wedge and the 440.
Good engines, a bit heavy.
So when you dropped the Duster off did you grab the mustang? The car i think would be cool with a 360
When I started watching Daisy was being built...nice car
B block 400’s with a 440 or 500 cube crank would be kewl for torque in that car. My buddies 400 made 525 HP and 550 torque on the engine dyno with the Trick Flow cam and top end kit

Not the case
Dod you put valve reliefs in those pistons? I have a 413 I want to use the same cam in and need to know if I needs valve reliefs.
Who makes the oil cooler? Where did you buy it? I have been looking for a quality oil cooler. Sorry if it's been asked before. Thanks!
I like it nice job
That's one sweet car 👍👍🇨🇱
Strongly recommend low profile super charger
Snakes and sparklers are all I like 🤣🤣🤣
Ever think about ditching the carb & going to fuel injection?
Great video, on your engine oil cooler did you put a high volume oil pump in. Can you use a stock oil pump ???
Stock is fine, high volume is what I would use
@@junkerup cool I've wanted to try a engine oil cooler but wasn't sure if the stock oil pump would work.
Why do you not have a black push bar on your general?
That's what I've got my duster, .030" over 413 runs great 12.90 with a mild cam.
Twin snorkel Mopar air cleaner with proper motor tin and paint ceramic coat the inside of the air filter housing drop in a high flow specter or K & N... What happened to the 71 et
Chris when are you going to build a nice aluminum push bar for your General?
Those old 413 blocks were harder cast iron.
Hellaphant motor next?
Why does your General. Have No push bar on it?
Do you run a oil thermostat? I put a 180 oil thermostat in my duster, oil temps stay 185 pretty consistenty.... earls oil thermostat, and dual 12" span fans
You and whislin diesel need to do a video together
Sammy is a Cool Dog! How Old is She ???
My Lab lived till 14
You plan on putting a grill guard on the general?
If you were able to get a motor trend show, would you do it and what would it be about
Probably finding dead abandoned Mopars, making them roadworthy and enjoying them. Not full resto’s but fun drivers
@@junkerup basically Roadkill as it was 2012
The hotter the exhaust temperatures the slower the flow of exhaust. You're Robbin from Peter to pay Paul.. either way cool setup but with the large exhaust it's a win-win... Just saying. Let's see how well it works in cold temperatures with the heater on 😆
The hotter the exhaust the faster the flow, thinner air moves faster. Colder is more dense moves slower
Whats the name on that oil cooler. I need one
Egge pistons?
Sammy FTW.
Can iron heads be coated like that
Why no push bar?
Try Valvoline racing oil, straight 50 weight
Awesome
What you do for work?
Of course, you will need to dial in your carb if you advance your cam.
:-)

Check out Finnegans garage and Nick’s garage
I think the General is gonna need some chassis bracing for all that towing lol
Lol 426 novelty. I was going to put a chevy truck 427 in my Galaxie so I could say I had a Galaxie with a 427. But I went with a 390 instead.
550 hp by the seat of my pants....how accurate 😁😁
Precision bootyhole
Seeing that engine in the bed of your truck made me think of “Little Red Wagon”. Now thats a tow vehicle!

Take a 400 block build a 512 reuse all your 426 top end BS and awesomeness!!!
426 will run cooler than a 440.
