IF these vehicles would have been sold at a decent price before the fire it would have made many people happy. Sadly too many hoarders or yards want outrageous prices for what they have. Now most of these vehicles are worthless.
How true. Some of those guys are so greedy or delusional, most of their stuff rots into the ground. Or burns. Poetic justice for the hoarder, but tragic for the cars.
Thank you Chris for your help and time showing us this and sharing this disaster and documenting this. God bless you and I again thank you for your time and your video.
This is really sad but it's the fate of all of us and the things we build.... Enjoy what you have now for the only thing that is certain is change itself. Dust to dust Amen.
Im a bushfire fighter from way back, what happens is fires create thier own microclimates, so fires move at differing paces and burn at variable tempratures, ironicly the areas that had less damage would have been the hottest burns as the area would have burnt itself up in no time not giving it enough time to badly effect a car in its vacinity
How painful is it to read posts from people about "Directed Energy Weapons" when they encounter the wierdness that is wildfires? 10 years ago i went through a wildfire in Texas and had to evacuate a few times and while I was waiting things out I took the time to read up on fire science. Firestorms creating their own weather, firenados, expoding trees, wild stuff. I really appreciate the works guys like you do going out into that hell. What year were you fighting bushfires and are you in Australia?
Such a shame that happened . I guess some of the more "desirable" shells could potentially become drag car builds if a new full caged chassis was made to hang the body over .
Good to see you posting, depressing to see the carnage. I had a coworker out there in your neighborhood testing for work, told him to look you up for directions on where to find a cool old yard like that.
5:31 the 1960 Pontiac flat top pains me to see get scorched. 17:03 is a Studebaker Lark 18:44 what is the other race car with no body skin, to the right of the Camaro? The Henry J roasted also pains a little. If I were to criticize this place it would be for packing the cars in too tight to even run a mower through once in a while to keep the brush from getting out of hand. I would imagine keeping that cut down would also slow down a fire in addition to making it easier to get to the cars. It's not like your lawn, you don't have to do it every week, probably a couple times a year is enough and run junk mowers until they die and just get another one.
Right!!! I could spend hrs there just walking around. Our yards (only 2 in the area ) scrapped everything old yrs ago I think the one closest to me still have a few really trashed old cars that were the original fencing to the yard 40+ yrs ago.
Turner's wrecking yard in Fresno Calif. Very hard owner to work with. Some where in his 90's. Warning, do not give any bullshit to him, he will throw you out!!!!!
A sad sight indeed...Thanks for showing us this just the same Chris...These things happen, day after day,so restore them while you can kids.Once they're gone, they're gone.
I wish you had gone a few cars over from your Charger to the Imperial. Those were incredible cars... Also noticed that in yet another yard you've brought us to, I didn't see any 62-65 Dodges.... In fact, I have only ever seen 2 in all of your videos!!!
Had a 56 Studebaker Golden Hawk that was part way thru restoration that got burnt like a crisp, really sad and unbelievable what a hot fire can do to a car, very sad to see all these cars burn in that yard... but, thanks for sharing your video
I remember seeing a ss chevelle go through Barrett jackson with a disclosure that it burned in a fire and the building collapsed on it. They salvaged as much as they could including the vin tag, the rest was a donor car. It didn't seem to affect the price. Maybe there is still hope for the cool ones
WOW !!!! That's really sucks that most of them car's were burnt like that a lot of people depend on them yard's to complete their projects 😧😔 , at least some of the body parts are reusable not so much for the interior . Sorry for the loss of all them beautiful parts 😥
Man that is sad I wish Pennsylvania still had scrap yards like that that was a big part of my childhood going to the junkyard on the weekends What A-blast
considering how rusty these are and how much probably needs replacing anyway i might be wrong but someone with the knowledge on how to do it might be able to still fix these.
@@0Heeroyuy01 some can and some due to the heat will be junk. Kinda like taking a propane torch to a aluminum can or tin can and getting it red hot. Great day to you.
Sad day but glad that some did survive gotta look at the positives at this point but thanks for showin us Chris hopefully a lotta people will see the video and maybe save some of these lucky unburned cars
I think it’s funny! Yards like this think they have gems that they want extremely to much for but yet they stack them on top of each other. Like this dude in the video saying “I’m so glad my beauty didn’t burn” yet has another car on top of it! Also noticed that most of the cars were gone already from frame damage, almost all would’ve taken 50-60k to actually restore. So yeah I think it’s funny because the Scrooge owner of this yard probably had hundreds of offers to sell most of these cars but didn’t because in his mind they were bars of gold....that he stacked recycled junk metal on! Maybe he learned a lesson but probably not.
50-60 for those with out skills. MAYBE 15,000 total doing it yourself. As for the prices. Supply and Demand. 🤷♂️ so simple if you just Think for a second..
Man that is terrible. It's sad but it was bound to happen. The burned color is crazy like you were using a cinematic filter. Side story t... There was a VW yard in Victoria, Texas. Gulf coast in a bog, and slowly many early 50s VWs slowly rotted. The owner happily asked for way too much money until he died. The highway crew came in and crushed what wasn't rusted. Just up the road a few miles, a massive MoPar yard met the same fate before much of it could be saved. We save what we can. Time takes the rest.
I can’t understand why whole bodies of that caliber are even in there like that. A lot of those would be worth more to sell whole. Was this a salvage yard or just a stash no ones allowed to touch?
Chances are that yards like this want a fortune for the vehicles or they wouldn’t sell them any way. Last time I tried to buy a car from a salvage yard they wanted so much that you would have thought it was made out of silver or gold. I hate that they burned though because they just don’t make cars like they used to.
Looking at the condition of these burned up cars, sad to say that the loss already happened before. The logistics of even getting these cars out in the first place, the dry rotted condition of all the soft parts. That 68 Charger with a car stacked on top of it, damage to the roof and the front end damage, mixed with the "numbers matching" engine that is just toast being exposed to the world for 35 years. It's just nature's way of ending what was inevitable
Your Charger survived...Wow. Lots of scrap for the Shredder. Were these cars insured? Probably not. My condolences to your Uncle. Where is the Phoenix? Your Charger?
It's hard to look at seeing all those cars especially for me the 67 Chevelle SS and a convertible I've always wanted to Roadrunner and then see that I've had lots of chargers but never had one Roadrunner and a 57 Fairlane convertible has a bumper and a valance panel that is still usable I would be interested in that if it was possible I saw two of them
So sad to see those baked jewels. I, for one, am glad that you are saving the muscle Mopars. Just think what you will have when you are old and gray. Lots and lots of more funners! 😁✌️
goes on about how its better for the cars to be there that being crushed, as he shows them stacked on top of each other and burned beyond repair, good to know there are guys like that.
Sorry to hear about ur uncles loss. Living n Cal all my life and growing up n the wrecking yards its always tough to c anything get crushed or destroyed. what sadness!!! some people are happy buying clothes, others buying technology. and others in amusement parks or playing in casinos. my happiness is to go through these junkyards! oh man.. happiness is a classic car!!
They probably didn't sell because the owner was asking too much- and now his happens. If that's true, I kind of wish insurance didn't cover it I could be wrong though, if so then yes I do hope insurance covered it
Lots of cool stuff here! One of the comments said your uncle owns this? Man, that's got to be a punch in the gut for him. Does he sell parts? I have a 1978 Dodge Monaco that was a former detectives car(police goodies!) but I need a windshield. I am up in WI, there isn't anything like this yard around here anymore. Pretty sure all the 4 door B bodies were the same in the 70's. I would like to find a 3.23 posi 9 1/4 rear too, previous owner took it to put in his 74 charger and swapped the 8.25 open 2.76 onto my monaco in it's place. I feel like that yard might actually have those parts, there is enough of the "not ultra collectible" stuff around saved.
This is certainly the automobiles worst enemy, fires, fires will totally ruin all machines including cars, trucks ect, how sad to this, that's to bad. 😵🤯😱😬 Love them 1950s Fords, Mercurys, ect.
Going to auto wrecking yards is a spiritual experience like attending church, the stuff they crush, maybe your next refrigerator........nothing leaves planet earth, unless it's blasted into outer space......

Since the yard owner is your Uncle, you likely have some insight into the questions i pose. Looking at the layout, i see a total max-out situation. Too much accumulated for the area available. No wiggle room at all. Desert Valley Autos allow alleys and access routes to allow their pickers to remove parts and panels. Not here. Wall to wall stacked cars. Stacking is AOK, and Marque groupings great, but buggar all lane-ways. Don't know how long you have had the Charger, but it wasn't gonna be coming out without a major logistical exercise/nightmare due to the layout (if at all-ever). The other Q i pose is, what was your Uncles pricing regime in relation to parts? Fair and reasonable, or over the top. I know yards where stuff has sat & deteriorated owing to the owners wanting more than the market is paying. Is it a pick-a part deal, or staff only parts removal? If the latter, is that aspect of the business pro-active? Crusher Co, coming in should free up your cars. The bonus for you. Good riddance to the wasps and weeds tho
Chances are real good that the yard owner is some old grumpy asshole that doesn’t like selling much because it’s worth a gold bar in his eyes and if he does sell something it’s harder than hell to contact him to sell it. That’s why I think it’s funny because anyone that would stack a junk no value car on top of a valued vintage muscle car is an idiot.
Exactly! People like this guy and his uncle really have no intention of restoring anything, they love the thought and just like to talk about owning something of value. Saddest part is the cars they stack on top are total junk that have no value.
IF these vehicles would have been sold at a decent price before the fire it would have made many people happy. Sadly too many hoarders or yards want outrageous prices for what they have. Now most of these vehicles are worthless.

is a car stacked underneath another generally in poor condition?
Not always. Depends on a ton of variables. That's a dry climate so rust and water won't cause a lot of the usual problems.
