While it is bad yes the dialogue here is actually almost the exact same in the japanese version, I'm not even kidding it's the exact same dialogue the only departure is instead of "I think she's is in love with you" is Atem says as long as Yugi sticks by him he'll make her fall for him. Though it's the original Japanese so it's sound way better than this the dialogue is still odd regardless. Though the whole point of the dialogue is Atem amusing himself by making fun of Yugi 4kids, replaced 80% of the dialogue through the series. Would you believe Anzu doens't even talk about friendship half as much as 4kids would have you believe and Yugioh never once screams YUGIOH when he transforms nor does the transform scene happen in the japanese version the only time you even seen him use that transform sequence is episode 1 against Kaiba.
nah 4kids is still mostly worse. The Singapore dubs that ive seen have all had terrible VAs but they keep the content to a good point. 4kids butchers everything to a pulp included with the terrible voice acting shown at times

Sadly this is probably a bit closer to the energy of how Atem talked in Japanese. Legit Atem talks like this in JP. He's extremely rude and informal. Now the VOCAL performance is off however the actual DIALOG is how he'd sound to a japanese viewer.
That's because he is, this is almost a exact translation from the japanese dialogue the whole point of the scene is for Atem (Yami yugi) to make fun of Yugi.

You can fault 4Kids when it comes to their shoddy editing, however, their voice actors were always tops and quite fitting to the characters they portrayed. This... I don't even know what they thought the characters were about!
Dee Cross Chuck is okay with regular Teen Yugi, but with Yami Yugi, he sounds kinda like a skater guy or something-- I see the point you're making, though.

She's just there at random, but she only appears in two scenes throughout the whole show. And people complain about 4Kids removing her like what importance did she even HAVE in the show? She was best being left out altogether. She still technically appears in the 4Kids dub, you just can't tell it's Yugi's mom because no dialogue is said providing who she is. She's just standing next to Solomon when he's being released from the hospital after the group defeats Pegasus and return home to Domino City.

They didn't stop at 97 they did 3 whole seasons according to Brian Zimmerman, the voice of Tristan Taylor and Maximilion Pegasus in the odex dub of yugioh
Dear God, this is horrible. Most fandubs I've seen are masterpieces compared to this atrocity. 4kids was a terrible company but I'd say Yugioh was the closest thing to a good dub they ever did. It's not really a good dub, but compared to this travesty, it's a masterpiece. Dan Green was great for a 4kids VA and despite the cheesy acting from most of the other characters, I'll take him over talentless Chuck Powers anyday. This makes every horrendous dub 4kids shat out look like a Kevin Seymour dub.

This dub is good in the sense that it keeps all of the original music and has a script that stays faithful to the original Japanese version. But the 4kids dub is better in terms of voice acting.

And suddenly, I'm so thankful for 4Kids. Honestly, while the heavy edits kind of sucked, I have to admit I really liked the 4Kids voices. They usually fit the characters pretty well and you could tell the voice actors cared about what they were doing.
Singaporean here, today Mediacorp starts their rerun of Yu-Gi-Oh and believe it or not, it's the 4Kids dub so unfortunately we're not going to see this masterpiece being released from the vault and remastered
Hahahaha!!! Man I'm from Singapore and I actually used to watch it when I was a kid. Somehow I never realised how bad it really was and watching it now I laughed so hard! This is hilarious! I wonder who they even got to dub it, those VA's don't sound Singaporean.
The dubbing company for this version was called Voiceovers Unlimited Pte Ltd. The company is based in Singapore but the founder (who voices both Yugi and Yami in the clip) is from America. I think most of the other VAs are as well.
For years I thought the reason I never bothered to look this up after first hearing about it from Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged was laziness. Now I realize that fear and the fact LittleKuriboh wasn't exaggerating kept me from watching this.
Yugi: "Wow, I completed the Millennium Puzzle! I can't believe it was so easy, considering the stories about how impossible it is" Atem: "LOOKING GOOD DUDE! WEAR A SILVER BRACELET AND SHOW TEA HOW COOL YOU ARE!" Yugi: (disassembles the puzzle) "Oh no, this Millennium Puzzle is too hard to solve, maybe someone else will have better luck"
I never thought the 4kids dub was that bad to be honest... the problem I had with it was the script was changed too much from the original Japanese version and the censorship was just bad as well but the voices they had in the dub were not that bad and I would of liked it way better if it wasn't for those two things I mentioned... Oh and this Singapore dub is bad but it's also freaking hilarious because of how bad it's good it is...
I actually don't mind Yugi's voice, I'd honestly have no problem if the anime was re-dubbed and he sounded like this (would help if he sounded a little more natural though). Yami on the other hand....
I know people prefer the 4Kids dub over this (and for good reason, I'm with you on that), but I just think it would be really awkward hearing Dan Green's Yami giving Yugi fashion tips.

I know I'm supposed to be stunned by the 90s surfer dude voice coming out of Yami, but I'm more interested in who that woman was at the end. Is she his mother? I thought Yugi's parents didn't exist.
Yugi’s mom exists for a grand total of one scene and three panels. There’s nothing that implies that she’s on business or anything, and she doesn’t act like someone who has only just come home from work- Yugi’s dad is stated to be “on a business trip” in the manga, but that’s once and I can’t remember but I wanna say that it happened in his mother’s earshot? I kind of have a headcanon that Yugi’s dad is dead but his mom is delusional and thinks that he’s alive and the reason she doesn’t show up so much is that she’s usually in the mental hospital.
Don't see why it's a shock about Yugi's mom not being shown in the 4Kids dub. People bash on 4Kids like they took away something so important. First off, Yugi's mother appeared in TWO SCENES throughout the whole show of 224 episodes. She had no real role or important, she was best not even be SEEN. And then people act like 4Kids took away the idea of Yugi having a mother like he just popped into the world by a stork. Seriously? Whether she's seen or not, it's common sense he came into the world like everyone else. He obviously had a mom. She's just not in the picture and even in the original apart from the times we do see her she's pretty much not in the picture damn near. -_- I don't see why people have a hard time believing he has to have parents in the picture because most people out there in the real world do not and are simply raised by extended family like their grandparents. Yugi being raised by his grandfather and being seen as this orphan kid is not impossible. We don't see anyone else's parents in the show besides Joey's. We don't see Tea's parents or Tristan's parents, or the Kaiba brothers' real parents, etc. and yet Yugi is the only one who gets all the complaints about not having their mom featured in the dub. And no one complains about his dad not being seen at all even in the original version so what gives? And Yugi's mom technically still is still featured in the 4Kids dub in Duelist Kingdom after Solomon gets out of the hospital and is standing next to him, we just don't KNOW it's her because there's no dialogue said of her. People need to get a grip.

She's just there at random, but she only appears in two scenes throughout the whole show. And people complain about 4Kids removing her like what importance did she even HAVE in the show? She was best being left out altogether. She still technically appears in the 4Kids dub, you just can't tell it's Yugi's mom because no dialogue is said providing who she is. She's just standing next to Solomon when he's being released from the hospital after the group defeats Pegasus and return home to Domino City.

i watched singaporean dub before littlekuriboh mentioned it in ygotas, so i immediately understood lk's joke. so sad they stopped at episode 97.
i remember twice i watched on tv the episode after yugioh episode 97 only to find out it went back to yugioh episode 1 or some other show.
i had to continue with 4kids after that. i never really appreciated it then, but 4kids definitely has better voice acting...
They didn't stop at 97 they did 3 whole seasons according to Brian Zimmerman, the voice of Tristan Taylor and Maximilion Pegasus in the odex dub of yugioh

Dear God, this is horrible. Most fandubs I've seen are masterpieces compared to this atrocity. 4kids was a terrible company but I'd say Yugioh was the closest thing to a good dub they ever did. It's not really a good dub, but compared to this travesty, it's a masterpiece. Dan Green was great for a 4kids VA and despite the cheesy acting from most of the other characters, I'll take him over talentless Chuck Powers anyday. This makes every horrendous dub 4kids shat out look like a Kevin Seymour dub.

This dub is good in the sense that it keeps all of the original music and has a script that stays faithful to the original Japanese version. But the 4kids dub is better in terms of voice acting.

Honestly, while the heavy edits kind of sucked, I have to admit I really liked the 4Kids voices. They usually fit the characters pretty well and you could tell the voice actors cared about what they were doing.
Singaporean here, today Mediacorp starts their rerun of Yu-Gi-Oh and believe it or not, it's the 4Kids dub so unfortunately we're not going to see this masterpiece being released from the vault and remastered
Hahahaha!!! Man I'm from Singapore and I actually used to watch it when I was a kid. Somehow I never realised how bad it really was and watching it now I laughed so hard! This is hilarious! I wonder who they even got to dub it, those VA's don't sound Singaporean.

The dubbing company for this version was called Voiceovers Unlimited Pte Ltd. The company is based in Singapore but the founder (who voices both Yugi and Yami in the clip) is from America. I think most of the other VAs are as well.

For years I thought the reason I never bothered to look this up after first hearing about it from Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged was laziness. Now I realize that fear and the fact LittleKuriboh wasn't exaggerating kept me from watching this.

I never thought the 4kids dub was that bad to be honest... the problem I had with it was the script was changed too much from the original Japanese version and the censorship was just bad as well but the voices they had in the dub were not that bad and I would of liked it way better if it wasn't for those two things I mentioned... Oh and this Singapore dub is bad but it's also freaking hilarious because of how bad it's good it is...
I actually don't mind Yugi's voice, I'd honestly have no problem if the anime was re-dubbed and he sounded like this (would help if he sounded a little more natural though). Yami on the other hand....

Don't see why it's a shock about Yugi's mom not being shown in the 4Kids dub. People bash on 4Kids like they took away something so important. First off, Yugi's mother appeared in TWO SCENES throughout the whole show of 224 episodes. She had no real role or important, she was best not even be SEEN. And then people act like 4Kids took away the idea of Yugi having a mother like he just popped into the world by a stork. Seriously? Whether she's seen or not, it's common sense he came into the world like everyone else. He obviously had a mom. She's just not in the picture and even in the original apart from the times we do see her she's pretty much not in the picture damn near. -_- I don't see why people have a hard time believing he has to have parents in the picture because most people out there in the real world do not and are simply raised by extended family like their grandparents. Yugi being raised by his grandfather and being seen as this orphan kid is not impossible. We don't see anyone else's parents in the show besides Joey's. We don't see Tea's parents or Tristan's parents, or the Kaiba brothers' real parents, etc. and yet Yugi is the only one who gets all the complaints about not having their mom featured in the dub. And no one complains about his dad not being seen at all even in the original version so what gives? And Yugi's mom technically still is still featured in the 4Kids dub in Duelist Kingdom after Solomon gets out of the hospital and is standing next to him, we just don't KNOW it's her because there's no dialogue said of her. People need to get a grip.
