    Benn was definitely a bit of class. He learnt from his defeats to Watson and Eubank. Although a brawler, he worked on his inside game. The zenith of this was against McClellan. I know the fight is complicated by speculation about exactly when the blood clot formed on McClellan’s brain (some say the blinking started after fighting Jackson!), but Benn’s slipping of bombs on the inside and replying with interest was amazing to watch. And McClellan’s knockout ratio was absurd. He almost got Benn in the first round!

    • @darthwiizius
      @darthwiizius Рік тому +2

      He had Benn on toast in the first round until the point they both went to throw a bomb but Nigel's short backlift high speed delivery beat Gerald to the punch. Gerald looked out of it from that point on, he looked like he had concussion. There are 2 types of power, knockout power and concussive power and Gerald had the former Nigel the latter. Concussive power is more dangerous because you can be hit harder and not get knocked out, in fact while you stagger you feel more awake. Nigel Benn has the longest list of fighters that retired through brain injuries, 3 in the ring and many others later down the line like Michael Watson.

      @The World of Boxing! I'd love to see someone create a video looking at the real career of Juan Manuel Márquez? I understand Manny is extraordinary, and what he's achieved in boxing is incredible, nobody can tarnish that. But, If I’m being really honest? I'll never understand how anyone can seriously watch those four fights against Márquez and tell me Manny won any of them? He never beat Márquez.
      Márquez beat Pac-Man in all four fights. Márquez, like Manny, is one of the greatest boxers we've seen, his record is outstanding, when you look at it with honesty, above all else. Márquez made his professional boxing debut at age 19, against Javier Durán. Márquez lost via disqualification in Round 1, due to a headbutt. Márquez had knocked Durán down twice before the clash of heads, (that was more damaging to Márquez than it was to Durán).
      Márquez vs. Norwood, Márquez lost to Norwood via a highly controversial unanimous decision. Nobody had Norwood winning that fight.
      Márquez vs. Pacquiao I, Márquez was knocked down three times in the 1st round by Manny. But Márquez then outboxed Pacquiao for the remainder of the bout, which ended in a highly controversial, split-decision draw. Márquez had so clearly won the fight. Just no doubt about it at all.
      Márquez vs. Pacquiao II, Márquez lost his Super Featherweight title to Pacquiao via another highly controversial split decision loss. Márquez landed 42 of 201 (21%) jabs to Pacquiao's 43 of 314 (14%) and landed 130 of 310 (42%) power punches to Pacquiao's 114 of 305 (37%). It wasn't really even that close!! Again, Márquez had clearly won the fight
      Márquez vs. Pacquiao III, Márquez lost to Pacquiao via a massively HUGE controversial majority decision. The decision was voted the “Robbery of the Year,” in 2011 by The Ring Magazine readers. It was shambolic, outright, in your face daylight robbery.
      Márquez vs. Pacquiao IIII, Márquez made no mistakes, and he made damn sure no Judges could rob him this time, and he completely fooled Manny brilliantly, letting the Pac-Man step around him, but only into a tremendous power shot nobody saw coming and he brutally KO'd Manny with that outrageously good and disguised shot, putting Manny on his face and out cold.
      Márquez vs. Bradley The fight went the distance, Márquez AGAIN lost by another highly controversial split decision loss. Márquez, whose always honest, said himself, after the Bradley fight: “I clearly won, I have been robbed six times in my career. You don't have to knock down the other guy to win the fight.”
      Márquez 64 fights 56 wins 7 losses 1 draw 40 KOs. Should really read... Márquez 64 fights 62 wins 2 losses 0 draws 40 KO's. If anyone actually wants to disagree? Just go watch every fight Manny had against Márquez! Then disagree.

As was so often the case with Benn, it was fireworks from the off, a proper tear-up, Benn was on the canvas in the first, and I remember him looking in trouble and hurt, but he got up and smashed on, knocking Logan out in the second, typical hard as nails, ferocious and dangerous warrior Nigel.

    Benn was always bonkers in the ring.
    I remember the Gerald McClellan fight live and its a real shame what happened to Gerald after. But it was also one of the best fights I've ever seen.
    Now Benn II v Eubank II. Eubank II looks great.

    Benn was pure dynamite. Its a shame in that era that the brits tended to square off and fight, and make no mistake, it was a golden era for brit and world boxing at middle and super-m. A fair few US boxers, Nunn, and others either ducked, or never fought against people. Benn seemed often to never be more dangerous than when hurt and on ropes. A fair bit of tragedy in the era two and a reflection of the level of violence and level of fighting of that era.

    • @jimmynich4791
      @jimmynich4791 Рік тому

      To be fair, Nunn was supposed to fight the winner of Eubank vs Benn 2 but that fight was a draw. He fought Toney and Kalambay so he did fight some very good fighters.

      @@jimmynich4791 lots of fights could or should have happened. I saw Toney blabbing on a TV show, but he never fought them. To be honest, the only thing I can say is had some of the fights been made, it would have taken the era from a golden one to I don't know what, but what an era it would have been. With Benn vs highest level, never sure who would win, but sure to be an exciting fight.

      Haggler was tougher than hearns mentally tougher and it seems to me Ben was mentally tougher than most of his but Hagler wasn’t that favoured by the media for some reason but oh boy was he tough.I loved Tyson but looking back these middleweight fights were more evenly matched 12 rounds slugfests moving to and fro with each boxer an inch from victory or defeat ❤😂🎉

    • @jimmynich4791
      @jimmynich4791 Рік тому

      @Peter jones Hagler had the best chin ever I think, only ever down once with an illegal punch from Roldan and he was very rarely even shaken, as tough as they come really. La Motta and Monzon had top tier chins as well, funny all 3 were middleweight as well.

    • @AdmV0rl0n
      @AdmV0rl0n Рік тому

      @@jimmynich4791 One of the changes was IIRC Hagler was from that brutally tough 15 round era. Not that it changes a huge amount, but I think the 10/12 round era had harder fighting and less endurance mentally. It feels to me that the shorter round era was somewhat more explosive. Also, much of this was done at super middleweight - this bunch were all big middleweights..

    Benn constantly hit Barkley when he was down and on the canvas. The referee failed to warn Benn about his dirty tactics but instead prematurely stopped the fight.

    I remember the Yanks as they always seem to quote their fighters were the best lb for lb fighters on the planet, in this case it was Barkley and Benn made mince meat of him. You don't forget these silly quotes from the Yanks. They said the same thing about Lacy and Calzaghe gave him an absolute boxing lesson and masterclass.
