This song is someehow the nicest song of the policei think. Maybe tehres another one better but ok this was my favorite for quite a time.A lop in the netherlands...i dont care...i like it. And U2 was one of my favorite bands in the early 80s. I think this police song comes mist close to the U2 sound so it has to be great when they sing together...and yes it is !! great this collaboration
IF I'd been at this concert I would have lost my ever lovin mind. Was an HUUUUGE U2 and Police fan in the 80s!!! What an amazing show that had to have been, wow!!!
Please don’t ever take this video down. It is so good. I love how they smile at the each other when they realize how close together they are singing into the mic. ❤
We had a great life music back in the 80s was all about creativity individuality everybody had to be you they were it was a great time for music to progress now everybody's trying to be like everybody else nobody can be Neil Peart greatest drummer ever

I like at 3:54 when Bono starts trying to improvise some hums and Sting immediately overrides him with the "woah woah" as if to say, "My stage pal...."
It’s impossible for Sting to pass a torch .. just like The Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel.. these people are timeless.. they are legends in our hearts forever.. if any of these bands are foreign to you.. your taste in music is severely lacking
2:35 watched this live all day long in 1986 on MTV. Got major goosebumps when I saw Bono walk out. A pivotal moment for Bono and U2, a turning of the page from the Police to U2… what an amazing moment to watch…👍
Bono sings that verse in a more emotional way than Sting. And I'm a huge Police fan AND this is my favourite Police song. With that being said,I would've loved to have heard a studio version of Invisible Sun by Peak U2.
Yes Bono songs with much more emotion but the words sting more to an Irishman than an Englishman. I don't want to spend the rest of my life Looking at the barrel of an Armalite I don't want to spend the rest of my days Keeping out of trouble like the soldiers say The “soldiers” likely killed friends Bono grew up with and I’m sure he heard plenty of stories of friends imprisoned trying to “keep out of trouble”. He probably had friends that killed soldiers too. I don’t think Sting, although he wrote the great words, could really emote them with the same “lived” passion. Great show though. I was there and absolutely flabbergasted and thrilled when Bono came out for this.
4:30 Bono seems to expect Sting to go on and sing "Seven" but he always stopped at "Six." It's very respectful the way he retreats and leaves the stage to the band.
An amazing day for a great cause. Incredible lineup for an 11 hour show that blew away Live Aid. These three shows The Police did were the only ones where they had another musician with them (aside from Padovani) as Kenny Kirkland from Sting's band played keyboards and sounded great
The Police were one of the most unique bands ever. It’s impossible to pigeon hole them ? They weren’t rock or pop or fusion or punk or new wave but had those elements
It makes sense why Bono, an Irish musician would join in on this specific song, as it’s about The Troubles, but more specifically the 1981 hunger strike, as Sting was living in Belfast at that time. There are a lot of complaints you can have about this particular version, but the fact that Bono is Irish makes this version feel more personal than the original to me.
what is the best band suppose to be? but honestly, the police ,each of them are elite musicians ,not just great song writers but really top level musicians on top of being great song writers...
Gordon S and Paul H are two of new wave music’s founding fathers and two very talented gentlemen. Seeing them perform together made me just about lose my $h!t! Now, if BOWIE had joined the bunch also, that REALLY would have been a mindblow!
The band was originally intending to make a sixth album, but Stewart Copeland broke his collarbone falling off a horse the night before they were to go into the studio. With Sting subsequently not interested in writing Police music anymore, the Police decided to call it quits after only releasing a couple of re-recordings of songs they had already done.
And the part that this video cuts off is even more symbolic of that passing of the tourch. U2 closed the show that night, and came on after The Police. When they finished this song, u2 started onto the stage. You can see in the last second of the video. Sting takes off his Bass and hands it to Adam Clayton, Andy takes off his guitar and hands it to The Edge. Larry takes Stewart's drum sticks , the Police don't play together again (till R&R Hall of Fame 2005) and thus U2 became the biggest band of the 2nd half of the 80's.
@@waynemontpetit8181 I agree I think the police were one of the best bands every I wast was speaking to the commercial aspects of the band. Following this performance, U2 was the bigger band undoubtedly
The Police to passing the torch to U2 tells us one thing - The Police were (and still are) the better of the 2 bands. U2 only became #1 because The Police stepped down.
U2 had already come out with Pride (In the name of love) before this show so they were already very popular. About as popular as the Police were prior to Synchronicity.
The Police were an international band before Synchronicity- Ghost in the machine was a global hit and so was Zenyatta M. The Police were truly an international band. U2 became an international band after Joshua Tree…
U2 were massively popular at this time! This was a year after Live Aid. The whole world knew them! The Police had already disbanded by this time. This was a reunion performance for them.
Fantastic when Bono joins Sting too. Those dreadful ‘ troubles’ in Northern Ireland ! Still going on to some extent even now because of segregated education !!!
It's funny that this is one of binos introduction to music and he ended up being one of the best in the world he's a really good singer and they have a really good band UA-cam
Lolz according to the date iwasnt born yet when sting performed this song in stage and i could be on of this song biggest lovers .😁😀 the song is older than me .
I was at this show in NJ. While I don't recall them playing this, I remember Peter Gabriel stole the show. Yoko was her usual terrible self - similar to your head inside of the turbine of a jet engine. And U2 was already huge. I saw them the year before - 4/1/85 at MSG - fantastic show! Unforgettable Fire Tour. On a side note - is it me or does this video stop/start too much?
Very similar for me. I also saw U2 in April of 1985 (in Hartford) and then was at this show in NJ also. And I agree with you on all of that. U2 was definitely already blowing up on the prior tour. I also think they've got the date for this wrong. It says 6/15/1986 but I could swear it was deep into Summer, like July or August. When Santana was playing, we were treated to a quick shower and I remember it being such a relief from the heat. And I remember Yoko got booed so badly on her first song, but then she sang Imagine and order was restored in the Universe LOL But the main reason I was there was that I had never seen Peter Gabriel and it had been at least three years since he toured last. My friends and I were all super excited to see him and he of course never disappoints.
This was at the end of the Police's set and it was the next to last song of the night. After this all the acts came back on stage for the finale of Sun City.
There were six shows on the Conspiracy of Hope Tour. U2 headlined the first 3 shows with Sting performing solo. After Copeland and Summers joined Sting for the reunion the Police headlined the second 3 shows.
The police and Rush two of the greatest three man bands and adding Bono to the mix was even better

Probably because Bono was living in Ireland at the time and experienced The Troubles (what the song is about) firsthand.
I agree with what Ghost Ninja said. If you watch the official video you'll see why.
I think sting was straining his voice a bit after singing too much so he was protecting it. Bono was fresher but I prefer sting's voice
