I think the root issue might be that they hired a new team and/or reduced the current one, having them crunch like hell and even take a new direction (ive said for a while it looks like theyre inching the game closer to something like street fighter). The evidence i propose is the bugs, complete overhaul of at least 3 characters, removals of things like sol j.214[K] in less than a year from its introduction, and the fact the patch released on the last day of october.
Keep in mind Daisuke retired earlier this year. This is probably one of the new management's first patch. I would say they did good. It's not perfect of course, but it is fresh and interesting. having that kind of creativity is more important for me than getting the change right from the first try.
Coming from a person who picked the game up and wants to play zato but was looking into ram before the patch kinda don’t wanna play her if she is buglethal
Agreed tbh they need to revert the changes they made to her 2D. There’s barely any Jacko players left. I guess they want her to be represented even less 😂
Garuda Impact being made into a projectile somehow makes Johnny an even more one-sided matchup against him, since you can now just say “no”. 10/10 (I’m a Johnny main)
Still new to playing Guilty Gear and I thought the stuff with Ram was like a feature. I play more Xrd Sign and Rev 2 and I realized how Ram's swords would get cancelled if I got hit but in Strive the swords still come out regardless if I got hit. Noticed the bug when playing Strive w/ my friends

I'm kinda disheartened that they seem to only nerf the hardest characters in the game. The best Zato can get, it seems, is them walking back on their own changes from past seasons, so the character isn't really buffed, and HC has been nerfed twice already while being the hardest character in the game, Asuka was the only top tier actually nerfed, and he's one of the hardest characters in the game. Makes you wonder what's the point of putting in the time to learn a harder character for them to frequently gut it. At the same time, May, Sol, Nago and Leo seem to never be nerfed and either keep their place and strength or get stronger. Also, it makes absolutely no fucking sense to completely overhaul a strong, arguably top tier character like Ram or Goldlewis and leaving Millia out to dry.
One character that really gets me right now is Goldlewis, and it might just be because im bad/dont know the matchup, but he feels busted right now. I have a friend whoes learning him, and maybe he just counters the fuck out of bridget and dizzy, but i feel like I'm getting destroyed. His minigun also is so demoralizing, the increased length at full meter (which he gets so quickly for some reason??) just has me sitting there for a good 5 seconds, watching my health slowly drain. With his blockstrings doing as much as my combos at this point and being able to hard knockdown at full screen with minigun just to setup drone on my ass and do another blockstring, it's getting annoying. Maybe im just bad and don't know the matchup (probably lol), but if yall know how to beat goldlewis i'd appreciate it lol
Goldlewis has kinda been a secret S tier for a WHILE, players like Leffen have already acknowledged this, but with this change yeah, as someone who can easily reach Celestial, Lewis is for SURE top 2 rn
Bro, same, though. I'm not great at the game, but I was destroying my friends with Dizzy, and then one of them pulled out Goldlewis, a character he doesn't usually play, and he just DESTROYS me. He just kinda killed me in two interactions by chaining the same move into itself like four times, back to back, and watching more than half of my health bar just be *gone* felt wrong. I'm assuming a lot of this is just me being bad, but trying Nago and seeing his chipp damage be about the same as Nago's massive sword was just... eh
Well, yeah. However, you probably need to be more aggressive with space control and pressure and use your resources like FD and Deflect shield on defence. While being aware of his gauge: you can probably predict the minigun usage. Big task but having a plan helps with the learning speed.
This is weird to hear. While I'm not personally into it, "Strive" is still arguably one of the most popular fighters on the market right now...and it's experiencing this many issues. Though this does remind me of the last fighter ASW infamously rushed out that ended up having numerous bugs and other similar design issues... "BBTAG". It's almost kind of funny how history repeats itself. Oh well, at least "Strive" is likely to get fixed unlike that other time.
as an asuka main, mana regen nerfs makes the character way more punishing and polarizing. But i get it punish the resource character for bad resource management. But the super nerfs (yes even bookmark, the increased cost is significant and compounding on other changes) not only is mana even more rare to come by with the cube super not allowing for channel mana but even on hit now it kinda sucks? On top of losing to almost any full screen super in the game on reaction to the super flash (slayer, johnny, baiken, aba, and nago from experience and probably sol, bridget, ky, chip, pokemin, and may) making it unusable in neutral its damage is so mediocre im pretty sure just using it on a red roman cancel would always be better. Id even take a buff to like tension mana channel cause idk what else to use it on and it feels like im playing with half the mana most of the time. Even the changes to stuff like instant mana regen feel weird cause at least with that you could use it in an emergency along with bookmark super to get a full bar of mana but now the amount it gives feels kinda pitiful. At this rate im surprised they didnt nerf reduce cost with it and throwing cubes in neutral at all went from bad to just suicide.
Considering how much things were switched from being regular attacks to projectiles, and vice versa, it makes me think that they might have had major back end changes to either system, either to allow for more attacks to contest projectiles (or just more interaction in general, example: Johnny's mist finer), or streamlining the development process in the future. Edit: or maybe it's them crunching it till the last minute, but this alone shouldn't really be the reason for moves that weren't touched much to be affected Edit2: pushing deadlines back for preorders have legal issues, I don't know if that is the same for season passes, but I don't think you are allowed to delay a product too long under an agreement that you're going to release it by a certain date and the customer has paid.
nobody is talking about it, but arcsys have reworked anji, of all characters, yet again! Like, he's the ONLY character that was reworked every season in one way in another, mostly they just removed his most damaging (and fun) routes and gave him some niche stuff in return with the only exception of S2 where arcsys added a few rin-ch combos. Ngl this specifically made me finally drop anji after 4 years and switch to Potemkin and, my god, he's literally a Potemkin from xrd but better. I'd say the glue-eater of strive is easilly in top-5 rn. His normals are very punishing, his 5 hit combo ending with garuda or flick deal solid 30% on almost every char with no risk meter, his 4 armour moves, 1 of which is a grab, are hilariously broken and lead to situations I shouldn't have able to escape but did. And on top of that Pot now has a proper mix-up with 6k in corner (leading into overhead mega fist, grab, air grab (hpb) or mashing 2p), making him yet another character that has a better 4-follow-up mixups than anji, a character defined by his 4-follow-up mixup.
The only problem with Zato is that it takes actual skill to play him in a baby game. Go play against a really good Zato and tell me if you get to play the videogame. (odds are you won't)
@@bradjenkins2861 His "only problem" isn't that he takes skill. it's that he's bottom tier on the tier list and no one in their right mind believes he's anything higher than mid tier hahahhah
@@Sir_Bucket how do you press that punch button and take away all of zato's pressure if he's pressuring you? FD then throw it out? LOL You've told me nothing but the fact that you've never played a good Zato. Take a stroll outside your little bubble of bad players and see whats out there.
@bradjenkins2861 No need to be this aggressive lol. But more seriously, Zato can't attack for very long because of Eddie's meter. Even when he can, the smallest gap in his pressure means he looses his turn immediatly. Zato's problem isn't that he can't pressure, it's that one block/mistake will lead to him loosing the advantage. Guilty Gear is a game where reversals do explosive damage, that added to Zato's low health means those reversals are catastrophic for him. This is a character with the same health as Chipp, who has a less rewarding offense than Chipp, and the worst defensive toolkit in the game. I know gamers often complain about balancing for no reason, but Zato-1 is a character you have to play perfectly otherwise you loose. This isn't a skill-requirement anymore, this is just poor game design. A 9F player shouldn't have to play like a celestial player to beat other 9F players.
I was so disappointed with the patch, but the second I switched off Testament and picked up Dizzy this is the most fun I've been having in Strive! It's so buggy atm but I LOVE the non-bugged changes. (Now they just need to give testament a significant buff for once and I'll be even happier)
Testament is just a former of his shadow self. I enjoy the Trap Style of Testament more than a generic Mid Range Zoner with a lame ass Stained curse for a cheap ass replacement for his old Curse system. Testament needs the Trap Style back more than ever. In the old school GG, Testament was mainly low tier to mid tier at best until AC+ and +R where he's undisputed top 1. However, he required for you to have deep understanding and adaptability of his toolkit to be utilized correctly. Strive Dizzy is just Dizzy with her main flaw removed (since Dizzy state no longer in Strive. She might be the case like ABA and Slayer when they are ported practically unchanged but their major flaws removed.)
Always loved since joining strive that the ggst devs will try some crazy shit to fix the game. If Don't go well then they change again. Keep it up devs❤
As a testament player, I’m giving fun. Like I’m playing the same game outside of pot and ram counterplay but I love fighting the majority of characters in this game rn which isn’t normal for me.
ive said it a thousand times, but ill say it again, i liked the flow of rams throw and pick up swords, it was one of the major things i liked about ram, and taking that away left me feeling like many of the potemkin players, yeah ram is better, but they took away what i liked about the character. she is not fun anymore. and knowing i likely wont ever be able to manually pick up swords anymore, i dropped the character. I know alot of people hated it, but i loved it. and it sucks to see it go.
9:31 you talk about a different bug than the one shown on screen lol. The explosion guard crushes if you didnt block the inital sword toss but you talk about hitting ram not cancelling the toss. Either way those are both bugs ive seen and as a ram player im abusing it on my friends while its there lol
At least they said the bug fix is coming later this month, so I’m probably gonna wait till then to really keep playing the game. I’m okay with them giving characters these crazy changes for the season 4 launch, but I hope in future patches throughout the season they can smooth things out. Other than the bugs, it’s kinda similar to the season 3 launch imo, where that season was kinda a mess at launch due to hard knockdown with wild assault wall breaks, even though wild assault was cool on paper. I hope this season ends up being similar, where they make these changes that are cool on paper more polished to make them actually more fun in practice
It’s great for overpriced “we have kara pot buster at home” type shenanigans, but I do still find myself still wild assaulting into attacks and sliding to far in combos.
I honestly love Rams Sword, it reminds me of melty blood and gave me the desire of playing her again. I wish it wasn't a bug, and if it is Aww... But if it isn't Les goooo!!!!
Mortal combat 1 did sell one million more copies then guilty gear strive but it’s concurrent players across all platforms is around 1/5 of what strive gets along with the fact that Mortal Kombat had less entries than under night Evo. So I think strive is 100% replaced them in the big 3
Are they actually that much worse? I play a bit of Testament on the side, sometimes, but was really looking forward to Dizzy, so I just played her for a few days and had the time of my life. Then I played Testament against a friend and suddenly struggled a lot, and thought that I was just simply worse than I used to be, or maybe Johnny just has a good matchup against Testament. Anyway, I'm just gonna blame the balance patch now. Me being bad at the game? No, sir! It's the balance that's at fault.
@@lucas_lipp S4 jonny’s mist finder deletes projectiles. It’s actually a lost matchup. It’s not that Test is bad, but over the last 4 years every character has been buffed in some pretty big way besides them. The whole giving each base roster character a new move really pisses me off because there are some characters that needed that a lot more than fucking sol and ram.
Low-key I prefer the idea of gg being more extreme like it used to be as long as they keep nerfing damage. I want more moves and more weird shit with interesting manual execution.
We just going to casually gloss over the Ram, rekka 1 dash canceling into rekka 1, and not getting the dash canceling lockout so they can loop back into rekka 1...
I like new pot I could Kara easily but I like pot buster trades it’s funny keep in mind I also love raam in Ki who can also do the same thing with his grabs
I stopped playing strive for a while and decided to come back once the patch dropped, but now I'm not sure if I should wait until the bugs are fixed or just play and deal with it at the cost of my sanity
my only complaint is that on round start ramlethal is literally unbeatable with 90% of the cast and that slayer got no real nerf, because oh my god getting moved down a floor because I didn't guess right on a slayer's overpowered cross up makes me feel so terrible
I can understand the frustration of losing against Slayer, I had some (especially after losing for 20 minutes against a F10 Slayer in the Park). But why would you care about floor changes as if it really reflects your skill level instead of how much of a win/lose streak you have? FGs are volatile, you're going to lose big. What matters is when you do cool things. And turn on "Skip rating update sequences" if you haven't.
I think good amount of patch besides bugs , pot , ram and ky it seems almost good. But I’m not a fan especially with them nerfing jack-O’s mix and giving it to dizzy . That was just dirty and I hope if they ever decide to give the other characters and maybe jack-O a new move they better not nerf her again .
I have to say im in the same boat, like i know people are pissed, and i know things are buggy as hell and this is factually a pretty broken patch release, but damn im sure having fun lol
If anything, this patch got me back into Strive. So it succeeded in that. On the Potemkin and Ram changes, they sort of feel like the kind of changes you get in an MMO update. It's not just about buffs or nerfs, but about adjusting playstyles. I can't remember fighting games doing that.
As a Ram main, I hate the rework. They removed skill expression using her rekka cancel and every other change to her moves make her feel bland to me. I understand why they would want to change the swords and I like the idea because I understand that it was brain dead. But this rework feels way too much for me. She feels brain dead in a different way now. Makes me feel like we might as well get a new game/version because they keep making these big changes and adding in new mechanics to the point where it's nothing like the way it used to be and straight up breaking the game. Blazblue and older Guilty Gears at least basically gave us multiple similar games to go back to if you don't like the patch/meta of the current version. You can't do that here because these are mandatory updates everyone has to deal with in a game that has always been very different from the others. Some of my other mains got weird changes too. How many times am I supposed to readjust to characters I already paid for in the same game? We're paying over a hundred dollars on this game + dlc that they can't even maintain properly. R.I.P.
Strive as a whole is a genuine 5/10. Is it an awful fighting game? 100% I’ve played way better. The core fundamentals as a whole for this game (especially this patch) are now out the window. The meta just consists of “low risk, high reward” and it’s never gonna be fixed. On the contrary however is this game really fun? No. But I can’t help but have a good laugh here and there with buddies of mine. This game is amazing on a casual level but at a competitive aspect my god why the hell did we not nerf the right characters 😭
They may have nerfed potemkin... but i got very funny moments from fighting dizzy with him (please dizzy mains never use ice field when fighting a potemkin)
Testaments patch was more so for consistency and fixing already existing issues, but not anything that changes the characters playstyle in a significant way
Me too, I'm just blocking out everyone else complaining about their mains and having fun with my strong character. Also, it's nice to see everyone else deal with their characters being worse, which is what us baiken mains had to for a while.
Hey, I just came back to Guilty Gear, and I just hit floor 9 (I was floor 6 before). Am I making good progress, or is floor 9 still considers beginner level?
He usually plays in SaltyEU to meet his 1 online tourney a week quota, but both TOs for it got sick this past Monday, so he just entered the tourney he discussed here instead
I'm not happy with this patch and my character got buffed... It feels like the changes to characters were like, trying to make strategies that are common on lower floors more viable. Problem: The "correct" (good) way to play the character changes as well... The changes to May's 5h are just too absurd. Our reward is too high. I really don't like it when the good things to do are not the fun things to do...
Strongly disagree with the potemkin discussion, saying that they’re catering to the casuals whereas they’re catering to the pre-strive pot players is debatably just wrong
as a pot main? i'm enjoying potemkin just as much as i did when he had kara cancels. i do miss karas, but i also love the skill expression we get with our combo routes now, and our armor.
-lucy and unika instead of characters people wanted like jam, roboky, zappa and raven -focusing resources on 3v3 mode instead of what the players wanted -slayer terrorising players -and now this cursed patch (bugs, goldlewis and johnny cracked for no reason, chip gets a weird rope move instead of just giving him the teleport back, ky ram and goldlewis bugs, ram and pot reworks, kara cancels gone, my beloved rainwater on axl is ruined, and many characters got undeserved nerfs or the buffs werent enough like with zato...) Overall... arcs keep on loosing. I really hope theyll bounce back during s5 (if there will be one).
People have not shut up about where the 3v3 mode is since it was announced last season. And I heard a complaint a day about how Season 3 didn't have any newcomers only old characters.
This GekkoSquirrel person is being a bit extra about the bugs in the patch I presume because his subscribers are children and like that type of thing but in reality real fighting game players love the fact that Arcsys is willing to put themselves out there and not play it safe and put out a patch that is a bit wild and out there. Sure there are bugs. They will be fixed. Stop crying on twitter like you are important.... no one cares. Hopefully when arcsys fixes the bugs they dont go too far the other way and kill the creativity.
Sorry bro, my "issue" with people like you is that don't understand how much weight you have on your opinions to condition others, that is why I dislike "influencers", and that is also why I kept a close watch to Diaphone and Hotashi only during this new patch since they tend to not be harsh, take it with humor and enjoy the game while being positive. I just updated ASAP the game on all the consoles and PC, then went playing on Rank, on Park and hooked again some friends of mine and we had a blast, also the BaccpaBrawl and TNS tournaments showed how fun and interesting most of the changes are and the game is more alive than before. The only issue are the bugs that are already recognized as you explained by ArcSys (still can't believe the dumbest things I read regarding Ram's swords not being a bug until it got confirmed lol), but those will be fixed soon and honestly the only real one "annoying" was that of Ram since the others most of the time people would be triggering them or they wouldn't even happen. BTW the change I loved the most is Potemkin reword, now we are talking, goodbye depending on Kara for anything and welcome to actually playing and enjoying my big boy. Also funnily enough Ram and Pot both feel more like before Strive, maybe that is why I enjoyed the changes, not like I didn't like them in Strive tho, but specially Ram not being able to just move over the sword and pick them or being able to spam the super to recover them is nice, I remember all the times in Xrd I would need to go for the swords to then perform the super since it chipped a lot without FD, also without both swords there was other super, and depending on that you do one or the other but anyways with only one sword would do neither of them.

I refuse to fight this version of ram cause the amount of me outplaying ram for her sword to rob me is insane
lol
Just outplayed 🤡
Coming from a person who picked the game up and wants to play zato but was looking into ram before the patch kinda don’t wanna play her if she is buglethal
I'm still wondering why they shot Jacko like the thing they gave Jacko for the nerf was genuinely terrible
Ikr she won ONE tournament and arcsys decided to nuke her.
Agreed tbh they need to revert the changes they made to her 2D. There’s barely any Jacko players left. I guess they want her to be represented even less 😂
@GiantGunt_EthanRalph I swear they do this for all the highly technical characters. First it was zato, and now jacko and asuka
Garuda Impact being made into a projectile somehow makes Johnny an even more one-sided matchup against him, since you can now just say “no”.

Trust me, no. Outside of the core gameplay, things like ping detection (which for some fucking reason checks your pc's clock to calculate ping???) towers and general joining a match expirience is so buggy that it would make gonta scream of joy.

i mean, my boy bedman is now actually good so im happy
I'm assuming a lot of this is just me being bad, but trying Nago and seeing his chipp damage be about the same as Nago's massive sword was just... eh
as a GL player i disagree with ur placement Gl top 2 ur telling me slayer and johnny worse than GL? nuh bro maybe he's 5th or 6th @@alexsvedegard
In this Behemoth Typhoon...
You can Behemoth Typhoon into Behemoth Typhoon
"Every character got touched at least a little bit" new favorite GekkoSquirrel quote
as an asuka main, mana regen nerfs makes the character way more punishing and polarizing.
Edit: or maybe it's them crunching it till the last minute, but this alone shouldn't really be the reason for moves that weren't touched much to be affected
Edit2: pushing deadlines back for preorders have legal issues, I don't know if that is the same for season passes, but I don't think you are allowed to delay a product too long under an agreement that you're going to release it by a certain date and the customer has paid.
nobody is talking about it, but arcsys have reworked anji, of all characters, yet again!
I wanted Jam kuradoberi in season 4 😭
the worst bug is how baiken is saved from zato's tier but zato is about the same viability wise
@@bradjenkins2861 me when I can destroy your entire pressure and defense by pressing P once: "truly it's a skill issue"
6:15 : "Four years later!"
As an Xrd Ramlethal Main, Its been longer than 4 years
I was so disappointed with the patch, but the second I switched off Testament and picked up Dizzy this is the most fun I've been having in Strive!
This patch taught me the Burger Nation will always be up ✊🏽🍔
who needs a test server when you have the live one - arc system works 2024/31/10
Your theory on arcsys not having a lot of time makes sense if you remember they STILL haven't given some of the base roster a new move.
Always loved since joining strive that the ggst devs will try some crazy shit to fix the game. If Don't go well then they change again. Keep it up devs❤
I unironically love the bugs and hate the intended changes.
As a testament player, I’m giving fun. Like I’m playing the same game outside of pot and ram counterplay but I love fighting the majority of characters in this game rn which isn’t normal for me.
I NOTIVED THE LEO BUG IMMEDIATELY AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FEATURE
ive said it a thousand times, but ill say it again, i liked the flow of rams throw and pick up swords, it was one of the major things i liked about ram, and taking that away left me feeling like many of the potemkin players, yeah ram is better, but they took away what i liked about the character. she is not fun anymore. and knowing i likely wont ever be able to manually pick up swords anymore, i dropped the character. I know alot of people hated it, but i loved it. and it sucks to see it go.
Goldlewis my beloved eternal low tier
😅
He needs it
Totally not an S+ tier or anything.. 😭😭
He’s called a low tier because he lowers you HP just by existing
Sol Badguy scares me now
9:31 you talk about a different bug than the one shown on screen lol.
I hope this season ends up being similar, where they make these changes that are cool on paper more polished to make them actually more fun in practice

its funny as a strive newbie we both became interested in those in specific
Mortal combat 1 did sell one million more copies then guilty gear strive but it’s concurrent players across all platforms is around 1/5 of what strive gets along with the fact that Mortal Kombat had less entries than under night Evo. So I think strive is 100% replaced them in the big 3
Here here Potemkin, show me in this dustloop page where the developers touched you!
I know Strive shills are known for being delusional, but you consistently take the cake.
As a Test main, S4 is my end. I shall be swaping to Dizzy now. She is better Test.

I stopped playing strive for a while and decided to come back once the patch dropped, but now I'm not sure if I should wait until the bugs are fixed or just play and deal with it at the cost of my sanity
I would say play it if you can, if youre having fun, and just laugh at the bugs cause theyre gonna be going away soon, hopefully
my only complaint is that on round start ramlethal is literally unbeatable with 90% of the cast and that slayer got no real nerf, because oh my god getting moved down a floor because I didn't guess right on a slayer's overpowered cross up makes me feel so terrible
That was just dirty and I hope if they ever decide to give the other characters and maybe jack-O a new move they better not nerf her again .
you forgot sol badgy

If anything, this patch got me back into Strive. So it succeeded in that.
On the Potemkin and Ram changes, they sort of feel like the kind of changes you get in an MMO update. It's not just about buffs or nerfs, but about adjusting playstyles. I can't remember fighting games doing that.
This update ruined almost all my combos for sin
Less than 10 minutes late🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

Adding karas to the game was an awful decision. It just makes balancing way more messy and severely skill-gates a few characters' best options.
I think it was a good way to limit grappler complaints from low level players which are where a lot of the grappler and zoner complaints come from.
I'm not happy with this patch and my character got buffed...
It feels like the changes to characters were like, trying to make strategies that are common on lower floors more viable.
Problem: The "correct" (good) way to play the character changes as well...
The changes to May's 5h are just too absurd. Our reward is too high.

They should make arbiter negative edge so we can have unblockables better than stain pop that would have been more needed last season ;-;
I love the new potemkin. That kara cancel stuff was hard to train for. It was really difficult incorporate it all the time.
I play zato that’s all
-lucy and unika instead of characters people wanted like jam, roboky, zappa and raven
-focusing resources on 3v3 mode instead of what the players wanted
-slayer terrorising players
-and now this cursed patch (bugs, goldlewis and johnny cracked for no reason, chip gets a weird rope move instead of just giving him the teleport back, ky ram and goldlewis bugs, ram and pot reworks, kara cancels gone, my beloved rainwater on axl is ruined, and many characters got undeserved nerfs or the buffs werent enough like with zato...)
Overall... arcs keep on loosing. I really hope theyll bounce back during s5 (if there will be one).
People have not shut up about where the 3v3 mode is since it was announced last season.
And I heard a complaint a day about how Season 3 didn't have any newcomers only old characters.

Hello gekke
Objectively well made buddy it was a half baked fighting game that thats pretty sure but bugs since day 1 and the networking for the ONLINE game has not only gotten worse with time but wasn't great to begin with like SF5 had only slightly shittier networking from the feel of this garbage these days but shockly
The patch did make the game actually fun.
