Jason Lee's decision to take part in Alvin and the Chipmunks because of his love for his kids really adds a genuine and unique touch to his performance.
I use to watch this movie all the time as a kid. I have no idea why I liked it so much though. But I gotta say, David Cross is probably the best part of this movie. His acting for Ian is way too funny
In the first movie, he does not care that he’s in an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie so he just gives a delightfully passive aggressive performance but in the second movie, he just turns into just a very unfunny pathetic punching bag and then the third movie is definitely a lot better than the second movie, but I can understand why he hated being on the third one he must’ve got chipmunk fatigue
One little detail that you might’ve missed is when Ian had the toy chipmunks. According to the movie, they were speaking in Spanish, but in reality, they were speaking in Japanese. 😂
I was thinking about this and I don't think it's the case in the modern day. A UA-cam video or TV show might be a hit, but the song, being audio-only, removes the spectacle of actually seeing woodland creatures sing.
7:04 Yes, I agree. The ability to sew IS convenient and should be a required skill for everyone to learn. Hands down one of the most useful skills I know.

Glad you mentioned the diabetes thing with Simon. I was diagnosed with T1D in 2011 and this scene's context has bugged me ever since. That's not how insulin shock works.
I guess this would be a Christmas movie. And I've been saying for years that they don't need big name celebrities for the Chipmunks when they're gonna pitch their voices anyway.
When Simon explained to Dave how they escaped the cage, I think what he was getting at was “if we’re smart and self-aware enough to speak English even though we’re chipmunks, we’re definitely smart enough to open a latch.”
Was disappointed the studio convinced Bagdasarian and Karman replace their voices as the chipmunks with “big actors”. They still did the singing and you cannot tell the speaking voices were replaced without being told. Did the “big actors” really draw people in?
@@DavidRomigJr Jim Carrey, Tim Allen, John Travolta, Vince Vaughn, and Ben Stiller were all offered and declined the role of Dave Seville. 20th Century Fox was desperate for bankable names to make this movie successful.

There was such a missed opportunity When Dave was calling to see how the chipmunks were doing with Ian and Ian was lying and cutting Dave off Dave should’ve said Ian, Ian, Ian… IANNNNN!!!!! You know, Alvin style
Funny thing is, Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Jesse McCartney only provided the SPEAKING voices for their respective chipmunks...the singing voices were provided by Ross Bagdasarian Jr. as Alvin, Steve Vining as Simon, and Janice Karman as Theodore respectively. Just a fact that a lot of people don't seem to know JUST because of the fact that Jesse McCartney voiced Theodore. 😅
